Imythess has upgraded its forum software from InvisionFree to Zetaboards. This topic answers some frequently asked questions and gives general information regarding the changes that will happen when we upgrade.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Did we lose any posts, accounts, PMs, etc?
- No, everything remained 100% intact.
- Do all the old links still work?
- Yes, all of the old InvisionFree style links will still take you to the proper place, and will continue to do so forever.
- Why did we upgrade/convert?
- The company we use to host our board is focusing on adding all new features to Zetaboards and is no longer adding anything to InvisionFree, even though they will continue to run the service. The new features are very beneficial to the board, particularly when it comes to filling purchase requests. Our host also provides the upgrade/conversion for free.
- How has the board changed?
- Please read the global announcement to read about the new rules and all the ways we re-organized the board.
- Usernames with special characters in them (like mine) have to type their usernames exactly correct to log in. I cannot type "Lothlomendil" to log into my account, it must be "Lothlómendil" with the accented "ó" intact.
- The entire appearance is different, but similar.
- Posting buttons are now at the bottom of each post instead of the top.
- The features in your user CP are different. You will want to double check your personal account settings because there are new features to manage.
- The PM system is entirely different.
- Some BBCode tags changed, and others are new.
- Check out the full BBCode listing to see the new codes.
- [align=center][/align] is now [center][/center].
- [align=right][/align] is now [right][/right].
- /me is now [me], it doesn't put an asterisk (*) in front, it adds the link to your name, and it makes the same style as your user group instead of just being red.
- There are no more email notifications sent from the board when you get a new PM or a new post in topic/forum you've subscribed to. This sucks for anyone who relied on these. You can now keep tabs of all your subscriptions by viewing your Preferences home page. Turning on PM popup notifications will help you see if you've gotten a new PM while you are logged in.
New Features & General Information
- Joinable Groups
- There are new types of member groups that you can click to request to join, and admins don't have to manually add you which means no more waiting for guild-joining requests! ARP groups will be done with joinable groups, as well as some new features.
- Custom Profile Fields
- You will now be able to choose your starting equipment and fill out basic character information directly in your account profile. You will also be able to add links to your Inventory and Alt Registry that will automatically show up when you post. This makes life easier for everyone, especially admins filling purchase requests.
- Theme Changer
- We will be able to have more than one theme for you to choose from at a time! If you don't like the main theme, you can pick one that suits you better.
- Blogs.
- Built-in blog for each account. A little personal space for you to write about your RP plans, your life, anything.
- Expand / collapse categories.
- You can choose which categories to show or hide. This will let everyone shrink the view of the board index.
- Find all posts by member.
- Currently, you can only view all topics started by a member. With the upgrade we will be able to view all posts made by each member. I know that this will personally help me a ton, I always lose track of who bought what with which account where.
- Tons of new admin and moderator tools.
- Makes purchases, requests, and many other staff actions go much quicker.
- Easier coding system.
- It is easier for admins to create codes that add new features and functionality to the board. I will personally be able to add many useful features, and have already made a few.
- Custom board pages.
- Similar to our voting page, with ZB we can make fully-integrated webpages that add functionality to the board.
- Automatic sub-forum listings.
- Links to all sub-forums are automatically generated by the board and shown in their parent forum. This makes them easily accessible and removes the need for an admin to do this manually.
- Working search function.
- The board search function (found in the top links bar of the board) actually works now! If you're looking for something, give it a whirl. It does seem to be a little funky, but it's pretty good 75% of the time.
