| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

The tavern like building stood in front of him, with that green lantern he had been told to keep an eye out. Ulfr looked around nervously; if it wasn't for him being a werewolf, he would have been a huge target. So long as no one knew he was the same lycan that protected Kellen, he might be able to pass as someone who belonged in this town. Luckily, it was dark either way, and he could get back to the room he and Higoru shared at the Green Gryphon in Kellen. He pushed open the door, and was greeted by soft rythmic sound of drums, and the whispers of flutes, not to mention the strumming of lutes. The sound was relaxing, and he calmed down, appreciating the darkness in the place, with only soft light to see by. However, he, as a shadowdancer, could see perfectly. He walked over to the far side at sat on a bed of pillows next to the wall, about fifthteen feet from the stage the music was originating from. Ulfr liked it here. It was all that he appreciated; the music seemed to beat with that of his heartbeat, the darkness was a welcomed comfort to his eyes, and he all to easily get away if need be. This place could also be a safe haven. His belly rumbling, and not in the mood to go looking for any sorts of a barmaid, he began to rumage through his bag of neverending space on his right hip, and finally got a grip on what he was looking for. Pulling the carcus of a deer, carefully wrapped in more deer hide from previous kills, as to prevent the blood and what-not from getting on the other containments of the bag. There wasn't too much in it, so it wasn't hard to find anything. Besides, his starblade was strapped to his back. He set the carcus on the low table to his right, tore off a leg, and began to eat, savoring the effect the music had on the taste. Wonder how people will react to this, He chuckled at the thought. |

Erus had been walking for days. His clothes were soak and wet from the previous days rain. As he walked into town he noticed a dim green light that illuminated the door of the near by tavern. This place is bound to be filled with humans, or other despicable species.. He thought as he scratched the back of his pale white head. Alas, I will not be able to stand this blistering cold much longer. He slowly walked to the tavern, hesitated, then opened the door and strode in. I must be out of my damn mind. He mumbled as he walked past each human sitting at the large wooden tables. Their loud cheering from the mass amount of drinking they were doing was quite annoying. Erus's ears started to ring. A clear sign of the demon that rose inside. He, however was unaware of the demon even residing inside his body. His hands started to glow with a yellow aura, but instead of freaking out like he desired, he walked over to the calmer side of the tavern. Just a few feet from the stage in which the band played. There was one man over here, the carcass off a mauled deer lay in front of him. He seemed interesting. Erus sat next to the man. He seemed an interesting character. |

Ulfr paused from his meal as someone sat next to him. From the smell, he guessed they were elvish, but there was another scent there, but he couldn't place, and didn't give it much thought. So, he simply swallowed what eh had in his mouth and intrduced himself. "Hey, I'm Ulfr. Who might you be?" he asked as he wiped blood from his face, brushing it onto his sleeve. Thinking it impolite to eat in front of someone without any, Ulfr decided to offer some of his kill to the newcomer. Whether or not he accepted, however, was almost always a sure bet of "No," but then, Ulfr didn't look like someone who would be doing exactly was he was at the moment. So it was in the air. The look on someone's face when their answer was "No," was very amusing to Ulfr. At that moment, the currnet band on the stage quit and stepped off, allowing another group to replace them. The particular melody they began to play was upbeat and fast paced. one of their members was apparently some sort of spellcaster, as she began to cause various colors flash across the place. "Say, if you're hungry, I willing to share my deer here," |

As Erus sat down, he noticed the silver-haired character had stopped eating his raw, mauled deer leg. The elf heard the strangers last gulp as the man spoke. Hey, I'm Ulfr. Who might you be? Ulfr? What a strange name... Erus thought to himself. For in his land, well what used to be his land, people were named after noble heroes of tribes past. His name was derived from the great angel Erus, who was believed to have saved the village from the demon Barnabus. His sword was mighty, and only those who were prophesied to be destined for greatness (whether or bad) are able to wear his name. Regardless he gave a teethy smirk to the man and said, Merry met. I am Erus Wyndbeam. As the old band left and the new band stepped on stage, Erus's senses flared. Something was not right. The stage lit up in miraculous colors as the nearby band member casted spells to cause them. The music was agitating. Say, if you're hungry, I'm willing to share my deer here... Ulfr spoke breaking Erus's focus on the band member that was casting these spells. She seemed evil, but, maybe it was just an illusion. Maybe the fatigue from the previous few days was starting to get to him. Perhaps food would soothe his mind..or other things that lurked inside of him. Erus hesitated and then accepted, taking one of the other legs from the body of the slaughtered deer. I hope you don't mind. Erus said, attempting to be polite.I prefer my food be cooked. Lightning, come to me. As he finished speaking, he used the glowing lightning aura around his hands to cook the meat almost instantaneously. |

It's been six days and six nights since the opened village nurtured Kaede back to his health. Six days and six nights since he collapsed on the middle of the naked road - traveling with only just his sword and cloak. And six days and six nights of endless joy that would seem to last forever, but happiness cannot last forever - same goes for everything else. The winds that approached the village struck yet another storm for the coming. Kaede watched as it fling the lantern back-and-forth repeatedly. He signed as had hoped to travel once again to the land-of-whatever. Creek-crack.. Creek-crack.. Loud music echoing from the tavern behind him, Kaede made his way inside as he stood up stretching from the firm stance he had been. Ever since the morning cluck from the rooster, he had been sitting at the wrinkle old bench watching the postulates of villagers scrambling to work. You could say that he was a watchdog of the village, or you could say that he was repaying his debt. It's uncommon for villages to have monsters or evil dewers, and maybe even uncommonly overgrown beast to approach these days. This was an exception, however. The sign above said it all. 'Dancer's Nest' What a weird name, but it's goes what it says. Beastmen, elves, humans, and sometimes the weirdest beings come here to have a great time. You're probably thinking, "Then why a watchdog?" Well, like I said. Some have evil intentions, some have good. It's all a matter of balance. Now, as the storm continued, customers enter and Kaede's eyes gazed on all of them. Power of detecting alignment was one of his powers and thus - watchdog of the tavern. Boredom was the price of his debt, but Kaede never really finished his duties. With all the ruckus going on, he barely noticed if the stage performer change. An isolated corner was suited for his kind since Kaede knew that if they were to found out what he was, he would be exiled either in the woods or maybe just outside of the stinking sewers. Scanning the room had taken awhile, but finally, Kaede found two fellows and decided to join them. It seems that one of them was eating a bashed-up bloodied meat from a deer - the other cooked. Instead of really joining them, Kaede just sat down on one of the empty seats and stared at the wall towards him. He was waiting. Waiting for something to happen, waiting for something exciting to cure his boredom, waiting for anything! Edited by Rice, Wed Apr 6, 2011 4:23 am.

Ulfr laughed as Erus surprised him by taking a leg, and zapping the heck out of the meat with lightening that he summoned from his hands. That was one way to cook it Ulfr supposed. He almost rolled over into the floor from laughing so hard. Why it was that funny to him, he didn't know. But it was. As Ulfr began to recollect himself, another person walked over and sat, and again, the newcomer didn't talk. His scent was human, along with the same unidentified scent to accompany it. And again, Ulfr had little choice but to push the information to the back of his head for the time being. Tearing off one of the last two untouched legs of the deer he had killed early, he offered it to the newest member of the table saying, "Name's Ulfr; want some?" Whether or not he took the offer, or fried it like Erus, was to be seen soon enough. The current band up on the stage had just finished their first song, and began to play another. The spellcaster stayed with darker colors, various hues of blues and purples, and a few greens. It filled Ulfr with a sense of longing, almost making him feel a little sad. But the music also made him want to get up and do something, what with its fast paced speed of the two men beating the drums they had brought up with them. The flute player helped with this effect as well, but she played the part that gave a sad longing feeling to the music. He sat back, enjoying the music still, continuing to wonder what the night would hold for him. He thumped his feet against the floor to the rhythm that flowed from the stage. Whenever I leave tonight, I hope it's raining. Erus and this new guy seem to be rather quiet. At least the music compensates for their lack of chatter. Or, maybe our conversation has yet to reach it talkative point. Eh. At that the thought, he shrugged his shoulder. I guess if I get overly bored I could mess with them by making some illusions. |

As described before, the music changed continually. From sad to a little bit dramatic, the music was carried out with the screams and cheers of everyone around. Not Kaede though. He liked music, just not whenever he was bored to death from working. Six hours was left in his duty, but six hours seemed like 600 years. In the end, Kaede wasn't just a bored person; he was one hell-of-a-bored person. Heck, he may even die of boredom. After maybe the fifth change of music, one of the shrouded characters that had somehow interested Kaede, flinched. Obviously something was funny. The way the person cramped up like a person having a seizure was proof enough. Hadn't thought of anything else but what they were about to do, Kaede never thought of what they were. One character could be described by the looks of his eating, the other - not so much. Bloodied meat for lunch and a pack still left to be eaten, you could say - dinner was served. The beast-men, or whatever the humans called them, were known for their expert ways of killing animals. Instincts were in their blood, but others thought of it as savage hunting. Kaede, nevertheless, judge by morals - never by ways. Not long after, the beast-man recuperated from the laughter of whatever was funny. He then firmly gripped one of the two deer legs and ripped it off - offering it later to Kaede. In a rough voice, the beast-man spoke. "Name's Ulfr; want some?" A pleasant offer, but Kaede had not need very much food to survive. He was after all, a demon. Demons required little food. The two characters did not know this however. Or maybe they did? Shaking his head, Kaede denied the offer with a simple, "No thanks." Besides, Kaede had gotten really tired of the meat. The days that he was bedridden was mostly the cause of this. For six days, porridge of deer stew was served for his meal - all in vast bunches. Sometimes, Kaede wondered if the breeding was a mass mutation of the sperm. One minute had passed since Ulfr offered a meal, the music as well. This time the music was sort of droopy. The flute, the beating of drums, and finally the rhythm of Ulfr's feet stomping was catchy, but sad. It kinda resembled war, death, and sorrow. The death of one is the pain of everyone. Nothing can change that fact. Whenever the climax began, Kaede replied. "Names' Kaede. Nice to meet you, Ulfr." The atmosphere was very odd since the talking of Kaede was very rare. Average spoken words of Kaede was only 20 words per day to be precise. Something else was also very wrong about the atmosphere. Ulfr's was planning something inside his noggin, and something with evil intentions. The only response Kaede gave was just a gaze on the shrouded mysterious character that was called Ulfr. Kaede wasn't worried or anything, just a little suspicious. In due time, everything will make sense. Edited by Rice, Thu Apr 7, 2011 3:11 am.

As Erus zapped the deer leg with a bolt of lightning, he saw Ulfr start to laugh. He supposed watching someone zap the hell out of a peace of meat was pretty uncommon and went with it, smirking and watching the silver-haired man giggle with excitement. It was funny, Erus hadn't smiled in so long. His village was destroyed years ago. Everyone and everything he knew was gone, totally obliterated by the demon that spared only Erus. Maybe he was destined for greatness, maybe his purpose was to take down this demon, but he couldn't even remember what happened after he saw the village being blown away by the bastard wind demon. He knew all he could do right now was try to make the best of what was going on at the moment. He giggled at the thought of actually making a friend. It was absurd to think that another person would ever want to join in at the little table. What with the awkward man eating a giant deer leg raw, and the lightning coming out Erus's hand that cooked yet another giant deer leg; not to mention the fact that there was an utterly destroyed deer laying on the table at all. Something most would frown upon. Alas, someone came anyway. He was rather odd. A human for sure, but that uneasy feeling started to work up again in the pit of Erus's stomach, his ears began to ring. Something was not right about him. Erus slowly unsheathed his long sword and put it on the table, it was beginning to be a burden. Ulfr spoke as the man sat down.Name's Ulfr, want some? He then ripped off the the third leg off of the deer and pointed it in this man's direction. Erus stared, anticipating an answer from the man as the music changed. The colors changed as well. They were darker. If he were to make a move on Erus or Ulfr, now would be the time to do so... No, thanks... He said eying the raw meat. He looked sickened at the sight of it... Typical human... Names' Kaede. Nice to meet you, Ulfr. Kaede , was quiet.... Making the feeling in Erus's stomach worsen. Erus grabbed his stomach softly to ease the pain, trying not to show any sign of it being there to begin with. He spoke quietly to hide suspicion. My name is Erus. Son of Theldon. He gave an evil smirk at the character and took another bite of his deer-leg. If something was going to happen, Erus had best be filled with energy. At the time the previously black tattoos that revolved around his arm in intricate patterns ending in lightning bolts, were glowing with a yellow aura, Erus couldn't remember how they even got there, all he knew was they changed color when something was about to happen that would involve him. The music was fast paced, the room was dark, and tension was rising. He could feel the wind blowing behind closed doors as he looked down at the longsword he had placed on the table. It was glowing yellow like his tattoo's. It was electrified. Hm, perhaps a new ability? |

Ulfr sat the deer leg back down as the man turned down his offer and introduced himself as Kaede. Erus had removed his sword and placed it on the table, introducing himself to Kaede afterwards. The music continued playing, and as Ulfr listened, he began to get bored with it. It was basically the same thing over and over again. Sure, he liked it, but at the moment, he needed some of form of entertainment before he fell asleep on the spot. Taking another bite out the leg he had been chewing on, Ulfr focused his energy, preparing to do what he was about to do. With a flick of both his ankles under the table, he caused the mens' shadows to spur into a false sense of life, like puppets being used by a puppeteer. Ulfr made them speak, Turn around boys, before we sink our blades into your back! trying to startle Erus and Kaede, simply to amuse himself. He needed to laugh at something if he was going to keep his eyelids open in this place. he patiently waited for the men to respond, anticipating the reactions to turning around and finding nothing there. Should they do so, Ulfr thought about making it seem as if they had just heard ghosts. Rather violent ones, by what he had made the illusions say. Ulfr loved being a shadowdancer. How he had become one, he didn't know. It was as if these abilities had always been his, running through his blood, never fully tapped into until recently. Or maybe they were a gift from Sithis. Either, he liked being a shadowdancer, it had its advantages. And boy were they nifty. As he glanced to the stage, a few bellydancers had gone up to accompany the current band. The dancers were quite attractive too, and they were pleasant to the eyes to watch them sway this way and that, it was so... erotic and... provocative. |

They, or should I say Ulfr and the elf, were both keeping themselves in uptight control. The elf seemed to have a disturbed look upon his face. Ulfr on the other hand, was still enjoying the music. Kaede himself, was just laying his elbow on the table - chinning his hand afterward. This was what you called a bored stance. No movement and sleeping eyes staring at the ceiling, the bored stance was just like the ones from a movie, but only Kaede was the one doing it. Tips of his hand clawed his face as Kaede watched the ceiling with boredom and ease. The elf, Ulfr, and himself were all so quiet. Three quiet people, and one that never introduced himself were just standing there. Literally, it was nothing but sitting and eating. After maybe a moment or so, the elf introduced himself. "My name is Erus. Son of Theldon." Quietness still surrounded the three of them even after the elf greeted himself. Erus, the son of Theldon, was not very well known to Kaede - not to Ulfr as well. With a mellow tone, Kaede replied, "THE Son of Theldon? You mean THE Theldon? Don't know him." And there, Kaede closed his eyes with a lonesome expression - still listening to the music. The swishing of the music passed both of Kaede's eardrums, and added to it was the soft clang of metal. A sword had emerged from Erus' and had been set aside onto the table. The splinters on the table cracked as the edge of the blade had penetrated it's core to the wooden surface of the table. With that, Kaede knew that Erus was preparing for what's to come. Kaede peeked his eyes opened to see that what he had predicted, was true. The sword was indeed on the table, and well placed. His peeking was thankfully not spotted - though very rare to be seen. Erus had then took a second bite out of the deer carnage as the repetitive music continued. Was it Kaede or did the mood just changed from pleasant to ill-willed. The music had nothing to do with it, but the atmosphere from before. This intense feeling was somewhat, magnetic? Kaede, with his hand stilled clawed to his chin, opened his eyes to see what had been causing the distortion of the field. The sword on the table had glowed an awed glow of yellow tense lightening. Wood on the table had suppressed the shock, but the tense shield of lightning was still tender. Kaede never moved, and never intended to move with such a weak state of matter. The elf must have thought him to be a human, but looks can be deceiving. As the lightning still crackled and Kaede still being bored even after the sword sparked, Erus murmured something. "Hm, perhaps a new ability?" A new ability you say? It's rather boring if you ask me. Continuing, the atmosphere included yet something much more then mere sparks. What had cause such instability? Kaede looked at the elf - ulfr next. Both of them were still feasting while Kaede laid his head onto his hand. Again, Kaede looked at both of them again. This time was different then before. This time Ulfr had moved his ankles in a turning motion - stopping right after. Though it was rarely even possible for others to notice this, you could say Kaede was weird. The elf couldn't be the one doing the changing. Maybe it's him. His flicker of the ankles was intentional. If it wasn't intentional, why would he stop? Kaede had heard stories of shadow-dancers changing the atmosphere, by using shadows and parts of their body. Why shadows you say? Well, in the city of lanterns, light exist almost in every corner. If there is light, there is always dark. The light produces shadows which would then be used by such people called the shadow-dancers. You get what I mean? Let's just say that the city was a perfect shelter for these types of people. Kaede then opened his mouth and spoke in his unchanging mellowish tone - still sitting in a very bored manner. "Does this amuse you, Ulfr?" Kaede might not be able to see what's going on, but he sure can hell observe like a detective. Either way, Kaede didn't really knew if Ulfr was the one doing it, but had a really good feeling. Like before, detect alignment can sense evil auras of a single person, but can't really detect magic. One of the few people who had these auras was Ulfr. Actually, Ulfr was the only one out of the tavern. Perhaps Kaede could be wrong, perhaps right. Edited by Rice, Thu Apr 7, 2011 9:32 pm.

Kaede was really starting to piss Erus off. His tattoos glowed an even brighter yellow. THE son of Theldon? THE Theldon? Kaede said sarcastically, provoking Erus. Haven't heard of him. Erus glared at Kaede and grasped his sword and swung it around, purposely missing Kaede's neck by an hair and leading it softly in to the sheath that hung on Erus's back. Don't provoke me human. Erus said slamming his fist on the table. I will show you the side of me no person nor beast would wish to see. Erus's eyes turned blood red, his silver iris's stuck out, they flashed at Ulfr has he turned around. Excuse me, sir... He spoke to Ulfr in an evil tone unintentionally. I must run to the bath house. Erus walked quickly away grabbing the back of his head. Whats happening to me... He mumbled as he splashed his face with water. The tattoos had extended down his forehead and skipped over his eyes leaving lighning shaped tips just below them. The mirror that was mounted on the wall showed a graven image that Erus had never wished to see. I'm a monster... he thought to himself as he rubbed the back of his neck trying to calm down. He looked at his hands. His finger nails were black and sharpened. What was to come next? Horns? He stayed in the bathroom for about five minutes waiting for his horns to appear. Nothing. He walked back out. Sorry about that, Erus mumbled quietly as he sat next to Ulfr. Who was obviously playing a trick on Erus and Kaede. Turn around boys, before we sink our blades into your back. Erus peeked around his shoulder knowing no one had been there before, but playing along anyhow, and looked back at Ulfr, smiling grimly. Good one. He said softly. However despite the calming down the tattoos were still extended and his nails were still black. It was Kaede. He would not be able to calm down until this bastard was killed, or at least taken down. He unsheathed his sword and placed it back on the table. The mood was intense. As the new dancers entered on stage, Erus watched, trying to avoid any contact with Kaede. Does this amuse you, Ulfr? Erus heard behind him, irking him. He mumbled He trying to have a little fun, maybe you should go somewhere else if you don't enjoy a good... time. He replaced the fight that was in his head with "time". Someone's ignorance was not worth time in jail. He played with his fingers, attempting to calm down yet again. But, all he really wanted to do was reach around, grab the sword, and decapitate this a-hole's head. |

Ulfr frowned slightly as the mood began to get very tense. He was relaxed, but the other two... not so much. Shifting his position slightly on the cushion he was sitting on, his legs extened under the short table they were sitting at. Kaede had talked very sarcastically when Erus introduced himself. Even Ulfr understood that it's not a smart idea to insult someone's hertitage and family. After being raised by wolves, and being a werewolf, family and friends were considered blood, and you didn't to mess with blood in a bad way. Especially around Ulfr. Simply having this happen to Erus caused Ulfr form a slight amount of loyalty towards the elf. Erus's agitation from the Kaede's words was obvious as he swiped his swrod at him, barely mising and sheathing it, rising and excusing himself from the table. He spoke in a rather toxic voice, but Ulfr understood. He merely nodded to him as he stood, and walked off to the bath house, was located closer towards the bar. When Erus returned, Ulfr attempted his trick. However, he bumped the table with his feet when he did so, and it didn't take much to notice the movement. It was a movement he often did, usually to pop his ankles. With as much notice that Kaede put into it, asking if that amused Ulfr when the illusion of the shadows spoke, Ulfr began to think Kaede was a paranoid little disrespecting freaky snob. Erus, on the other hand, found humor in the attempt, and having been given away by Kaede, lost its element of surprise. So no scared startles from either of them. A lucky guess on Kaede's part. And it annoyed Ulfr. Which didn't help things when Sithis began to blabber. Speaking to Ulfr in his thoughts, he asked If he's so bothersome why not remove him from existence? A frown formed on Ulfr's face as he responded Because that would be wrong. And I don't do that. Not without due cause. Chuckling slightly, Sithis suggested a comprimise, Well then, teach the mongrel a lesson. I'll get off your back for a while, let you have some peace. It'll be good exercise. Thinking to himself, Ulfr agreed. Only if he continues this. Grabbing the dress of one the barmaid passing by, Ulfr kindly requested a glass of water. Sure, he could have conjured his own water, but he would keep his abilities under wrap. Eating the deer like he was, all that revealed at the moment was that it made him look like some kind of savage. He didn't think he could play the illusions off becasue of his frown of annoyance, so he didn'even bother with trying. Should Kaede continue to try Ulfr patience, things were likely to get uncivilized fast. Sithis was all too keen on having that happen. Glancing at Kaede, Ulfr felt confident in his ability to handle him. He could probably handle everyone in here. He had learned much since beginning to live in society, and he was a deadly force to be reckoned with. Especially if you were on his bad side. Ulfr grinned that wolfish grin of his as he thought this, chuckling slightly to himself. Looking up to Erus, he said "Glad you appreciate the humor I tried to get going." |
