We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

Buddy’s luck wasn’t horribly bad, it wasn’t exceptionally good, either. It was more like a yo-yo, up at one point, down at another, then repeating the cycle. He could start out a day by stealing something worth a thousand gold pieces, and then end up losing it about a half an hour later through a sewer grate. He couldn’t tell if the universe was saying he shouldn’t have been able to escape Arda, or if there was just something else entirely that was harassing him. Well, other than about twenty angry pirates.

Luckily he was rather agile, able to get away and hide on the roof a building close to the roof of the Pirate’s Cove’s ceiling. Still pretty well illuminated by the lights of the torches, the smell and sounds of a village brimming with drunken pirates who probably didn’t bathe for months at a time if at all, it was kind of hard to tell when it got to that level of stink.

He looked down from his rooftop as the crowd of pirates chasing him happily marched into a tavern, apparently forgetting about the thief which had stolen about half their treasure, even with dividing, they were still freakishly rich, until of course they spent it like idiots on alcoholic drinks and women. Oh well, if it kept them from trying to lynch him, Buddy was perfectly fine with such a waste of perfectly good valuables. He began to climb his way down from the wooden structure to the streets below, not even really catching the attention of anybody in the streets.

He landed in the street rather nimbly, Zangetsu, his bob-tailed cat, surprisingly not so much, clamoring and pulling on Buddy’s shirt to get on his shoulder, almost missing the landing spot as he jumped down after his human. Some people were laughing at the goofy display, Buddy just smiled, fully realizing that every single one of these people had either a whole lot of knives, or a sword, the only weapon Buddy knew how to use was a dagger, so he’d be utterly doomed if he tried anything stupid like insulting them, instead he just went and mixed in with the crowds, hiding as a pretty normal member to the crowd, save for the fact that instead of a parrot or monkey or something, he had a cat.

Erin was not sure what had happened that day, she had been out to help some people and on her way home someone had attacked her and knocked her out with a cloth to the mouth. She did not wake up until many hours later and found herself to be in a comfortable bed of some kind, she slowly sat up and looked around. The room was filled with all kinds of treasures, more then she had evern seen before.

"Hey looks like she is awake now" a deep voice beamed out and the healer noticed two men sitting by a table playing cards, one of them was really big and with massive mucles. The other one was not small either, but seemed to be more agile. But of them was dressed like...pirates?! Erin swallowed a little and slowly looked around the room, she was feeling really nervous and afraid right then. "Looks like we got ourselves a really cute one this time mate" the larger of the men stated with a grin that revealed yellow teeth, he could use to clean them a little often. "What...are you going to do with me?" she asked slowly and the two men laughed a little. "well lass, this be da way, we are goin to have a little fun with ye as soon as the captain come back" the smaller of the two explained.

While Buddy walked around in the cove he would hear the sound of some people talking to each other, it seemed to be two low pirates. "Did you hear that the fangs captured a girl today? yeah a really beauty from the looks of things, exotic with blue hair...wind elemental line or something like that." "is that true? but where do they have her then?" "I hear it was not far from here in one of the buildings....the old tavern...they are having some kind of party there now and the captain was going to show her as a price of some kind. Then something about force her to marry him...I know I would not mind to nail that" he chuckled a little and they two continued to walk.

Buddy brought his palm to his face, shaking it softly as he looked to Zangetsu with a bit of a troubled look. The description of the girl sounded way too close to being Erin, and being captured by the Fangs… The thief just spent about an hour running from them, now he was going to have to meet up with them face to face again, which was sure to not turn into a very good situation in the least. He was cursing his luck and his conscience a bit under his breath as he pivoted and began moving through the crowded streets filled with all manner of sea-faring cut-throats, slipping his dagger from his boot and preparing for the worst.

It took a bit, but he made his way to where the pirates had retreated after giving up the chase on him, no guard outside as far as Buddy could tell, but Zan left his shoulder all the same, both of them figuring he could be a good distraction if he sank his claws in deep enough.

“Here goes nothing…” Buddy mumbled under his breath before entering the tavern with a bright smile on his face, catching the attention of all the pirates that had just been chasing him.

“Greeting fellow rotten no-good scallywags! I’m here to make you a very good offer that I thought of after hearing a spot of news through word of mouth!” A brute clumsily brought a cutlass down at Buddy, who just stepped out of the side, “Ah, ah. What’re the magic words when attacking somebody?” “Die you filthy thief!” Buddy shook his head as the brute raised a cutlass again before quickly stabbing the massive being in the side, “I was actually looking for Permissum navitas morsus.” On cue, magic began to engulf the dagger with electricity, shooting into the brute and through his spine and to his limbs, causing a series of spasms until Buddy removed his dagger and let the massive man hit the ground, “Though uhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhohohohohoho works too.” He said smugly, figuring he was probably going to be killed on the spot if he didn’t act soon.

He dropped the dagger back into his boot and then turned his bag over, dumping out a large pile of treasure, more than he had simply stolen from the Fangs, only recollecting a few things he had for much longer. “As you can plainly see, I am here to make a peaceful transaction, all of the gold I stole from you, and then some, for the woman you recently acquired through which means I am not entirely sure I care about. Now, If you don’t want to do things peacefully, you can all meet the same fate as dear Brutus here and then I can take the woman and the treasure and begone.” He said with a light kick of the fallen brute. It was still alive, just unconscious, though the pirated didn’t know that yet, and Buddy was hoping he came off as intimidating enough to convince the captain to take the money and lost the girl… after all, it was a lot of money.

The captain of the fangas was a very impressive man dressed in a black coat, he was having a bastardsword at his side and from his body built he could not have much problem using it. He had been watching the young thife when he was taking out on of the pirates, then he raised one eyebrow when the boy came over and showed all his treasures. The man ran one hand along the side of his own yaw, then he examined the gold for a few seconds before he looked to the young man himself. "Well it sounds interesting...I might take you up on that offer" he stated with a small grin. "after all...this is much gold and I never say no to a good deal" he gestured a little towards one of his men. "Go and fetch the lass" he ordered, the pirate nodded and then he quickly walked off.

Erin was just about to say something when another pirate arrived to the room. "The captain want to see the girl, he have sold her to some young pirate" he explained and walked over to the bed where Erin was. "Excuse me lass, but such it the life...your off to a new master now" he stated with a small grin and quickly placed a chain around the girls neck. Erin tried to resis...but she was a healer and not a fighter.

A few minuts later she walked out from the room out into the tavern, it was full of pirates...so many that she could never count them all. She swallowed a little as the pirate was leading her towards the captain, she could guess it was him from the way he looked. A very impressive character to be sure. She did not notice Buddy until she was closer, but then she noticed the friend and her eyes widened a little.

Buddy was right, and so far this situation was shaping up to be a bit more awkward than the dance. He resisted the urge to bring his palm to his face, and just kept a sort of cocky smile on his face as he took the chain from the pirate which led to a collar around her neck, trying his best to keep the front of a pirate businessman, which was extremely difficult with who was at the end of the chain.

“Pleasure doing business with you, Captain, and may neither of or crews decide to war with the other.” He held the chain lightly in his hand before turning and leaving with Erin and a slight tug out into the streets, Zangetsu jumping down on his shoulder as soon as he exited, catching him by surprise and making him jump.

“Zan! You don’t need to keep jumping from heights to my shoulder!” He said under his breath before turning to Erin, “Okay, for just a little bit longer you have to be in the slave chains, I can get you out of those when we meet one of my several shady suppliers, until then you just need to keep your head down, these vultures don’t see many beautiful women down here.” Buddy spoke quickly and softly so that the pirates in the tavern couldn’t hear him, a mild scowl on his face to try and trick them into thinking he was ordering his new woman around.

Buddy wasn’t really thrilled with the current situation, but even Erin who was still chained should realize that he was a far better outcome than a bunch of rowdy woman-deprived scurvy ridden brutes. This may have been a great loss to monetary gain, but at least she was safe, that alone made up for all the money he lost.

Erin did not really know what to say, she just remained silent...she did not want to say anything that could blow things for them. She had a feeling that Buddy was the pirate that they said had been buying her for a nice price. It was very nice of him to do that, but how the...why...how did he even know she was there? She watched when the pirate gave the chain to Buddy and then how he began to walk out from the area, she was walking after him since there was not much more choice.

The lady let out a small gasp when the cat landed on the pirates shoulder, then she sighed deeply and listened to the friends words. She was not sure what to say so she waied until he was done before she did try to talk. "Okay" she said lowly and made sure to not look at the pirates around them. It was really weird...she had been sold to one of her friends, to tell the truth things could have been far worse then this...now she knew she was with someone she could trust. She was not sure how she could thank him for this, was there anythinhg she could do?

Either his mild angry face was working to persuade the pirates against checking on him and Erin or they simply didn’t care and instead were reveling in the large pile of gold, jewels and other treasure. He didn’t look back to see, just happy enough he managed to somewhat save his friend. He turned away from her, and began walking down the street with chain well in hand and cat successfully on shoulder.

The black bobtail cat began digging his claws lightly into his human’s shoulders as if asking a dead serious question. Buddy rooted around in his own mind for a moment, figuring what the question was about and formulating the best way to answer.

“Well, you see, she really needed to be helped out of a tight spot, and yes we are going to see the wererat with feline phobia, but you can only harass him if he isn’t there, okay?” The cat’s claws retracted and a light smile appeared on its face as if the situation planned were completely to his approval.

They managed to wade through a river of pirates going up and down the streets, each rotten stench seeming to build on the other. Though Zan had luckily gotten used to the wretched stink, Buddy made a point to never get comfortable with the reek. Eventually they had reached their turn, and headed down an alley where no other being seemed to be. Buddy finally brought his palm to his face as Zangetsu jumped from his shoulder and went down a turn to another alley.

It wasn’t long before a shout of fear rang out, and a stringy being came clamoring through the alley and hiding behind Buddy, ”Keep that psychotic thing away from me!” It shouted in fear, warranting a chuckle from Buddy’s mouth.

“Take ten, Zan. I think he’s ready for business now.” He said with a chuckle, the were rat moving opposite the cat and backing up. “A bit over excessive, isn’t it?”

“Well, you weren’t present, so I improvised. Even for me being late, you could have waited a few more minutes.” Buddy said happily, feeling good holding the upper hand against a shady business dealer.

“I’ve been waiting for over an hour, easily!” Or maybe not, when it came to transactions for certain items that could only be acquired through certain contacts, it could be very difficult to tell who was in power.

“Well, yeah, blame the Fangs for that.” The rat man stared blankly and with a fearful expression at Buddy, stuttering a bit before formulating words properly.

“You screwed with the Fangs!? I thought you were some kind of genius!!!” The rat looked down the alley behind Buddy and noticed the chained girl, “My lord, you stole one of the Fangs’ girls!? What is wrong with you!?” Buddy just shook his head and listened to the almost deluded rambling.

“Shut up, Scurve. Or neither one of us gets what the other wants.” The thief mused as he reached into his bag and pulled out a rather big diamond cube, wafting it in front of the shady dealer’s face, “I didn’t steal her, I paid for her with the Fangs’ own money, and she is none of your concern. And you will soon get this as reqard for never having so much as seen her, as well as payment for the items.” Scurve the were rat shut his mouth and followed the gem as if he was in a trance. "I go get not so shiny thingies nows." He said as if hyptnotized before going back behind the alley corner. "Easily bought off, never to be trusted."

This was not really Erin's kind of place, she was not a person that minded the smell or the pirates themselves. It was just that with her nature to never used violance she was having a hard time to...stand up to herself in a fight. But of course not many would want to fight her anyway. The girl walked in silence thought the crowd, her blue eyes glanced around...but was mostly looking at Buddy. She wanted to say something, but did not feel like she should yet, after all she was just a slave from the eyes of others.

Wererat? Erin was a little confused from this and not sure why they would meet a wererat, she had never seen one so she was a little curious. The healer flinshed a little when the creature suddenly arrived, yelling about keeping that thing away from him. He was most likely talking about the cat, well he was a rat so Erin was not surprised. She examined him with her gentle eyes, but did not speak and left for Buddy to do the talking.

Her attention turned to the friend when he commented about the rat man. "I see" she commented, then she swallowed a little. "and...thank you for saving me over there, I do not remember what happened really. I was just on my way home..." but then she shook her head and sighed deeply.

It’s no problem; as long as you’re okay everything is perfectly fine as far as I can see.” Buddy said, looking back to Erin with a warm smile. He hesitantly turned back when the were rat cleared his throat in a very loud and obnoxious manner.

“Okay, now you toss me the rock, I toss you the kit.” Buddy brought his hand up and rested his head on it, nodding as he feigned thinking it over before dropping his hand back to his side and shaking his head.

“Just because I stole from the Fangs doesn’t mean I’m an imbecile, just a risk-taker. Now, you will first toss me the kit, or I throw Zan at you, and he would be more than happy to hear you squeal with fear.” Scurve looked to the black bob-tail with a bit of fear in his eyes, backing up slightly at the light feline grin before tossing the kit, in return, Buddy kept his word and tossed the gem cube.

“Another business transaction successfully made without any bloodshed, an, heh, have fun with the new girl.” Scurve said a bit wickedly before disappearing behind the alley wall.

“Yeah… avoiding him is easier said than done, considering all the things he acquires.” Buddy said with a click of his tongue before turning to Erin and removing a few tools from the new kit. “Okay, stand still for a moment or so and I’ll get you out of the chains.” He said as he began to work at picking the lock on the metal collar, unaware of the were rat having dropped down to the alley behind him until his car gave an angry hiss. He stopped picking the lock for a moment to turn around, being caught off-guard and angrily slammed against a wall.

“This isn’t the whole thing, where’s the rest of the cube Buddy?” He growled, his breath absolutely rotten, and the thief just giving a cocky smile.

“Well, you see, my subconscious mind works about three steps ahead of me, and apparently it thought of the face that she isn’t exactly dressed right for this place.” He lifted a tightly clenched fist between his and Scurve’s face, “Just one more thing and we won’t have to see each other for quite a while. Mind getting her a not fancy cloak?”

Erin was glad to his words, it was nice that someone did care about her like he did. She then turned her eyes to the wererat when he was talking again, she watched the little trade between them. She was not sure what it was about before Buddy was done and came over to free her from the chains, she watched him silently and smiled a little. He was a very cute guy, she could feel that she did blush a little when she could feel his hands working to free her from the chain around the neck.

The young healer gave out a small gasp when the rat came back and slammed the young pirate into one of the walls, she listened to them and was feeling like she should step in and protect him. But what could she do? It was not like she was any kind of fighter, she was a healer and was living to heal wounds...not make them. It seemed like Buddy was dealing with this in a nice enough manner so she was not doing anything, but she examined the friend and then the rat. He was not a very friendly person, it was not the rat nature she disliked. No it was just his personality that made her feel weird and uncomfortable.

Scurve reluctantly let Buddy’s go before giving a bit of a scary look to Erin and once again going behind the alley wall to scrounge up something to help her blend into the pirate crowd. Buddy let a breath of relief out, shaking his head of the minor shock before calmly picking the lockpicking tools back up and looking into Erin’s eyes.

“Don’t worry about Scurve, he should be smart enough to know not to actually try something, I think he was mostly just trying to get a rise out of you. Now, let’s get back to freeing you.” He said with a chuckle, as if nothing had been wrong as he resumed his place with the tools inside the metal collar.

It took him about a minute, but he managed to unlock the collar and gently remove it from Erin’s neck with a warm smile, “Better, huh?” He asked a bit rhetorically as he placed the tools back into their kit and tossed the set into his bag.

It was almost perfectly timed when Scurve returned with a cloak and a scowl.

“This time, you give me the pay first, and a little extra.” He said as he gave a certain scummy look to Erin.

“Better idea, I give you the gem, you give me the cloak, and you get to walk away from this situation continuing to live in whatever level of squalor and existence you do without anything broken or ripped open.” Buddy said a bit darkly, not wanting to deal with the shady trader’s idiocy.

“Fine, fine. She’s obviously something very special to you.” Again the rat man said with a certain scum-of-Chaon tone before handing the cloak over to Buddy and taking the crystal chunk.

“And Scurve, if you tell anybody, I’ll tell the biggest pirate groups about all the stupid stuff you’ve pulled with them, and then Zangetsu will be the very least of your worries.” Buddy wasn’t about to have a slime-ball like Scurve so much as really touching Erin.

“Say no more, my silence is worth more than the pay, and I am gone!” And on cue, the rat finally left, Buddy giving a heavy sigh of relief before looking to Erin, a wide and warm grin quickly returning to his face as he handed her the cloak.

“That should keep any of the cut-throats from seeing your beauty, since most of them are men who are locked on their ships for months at a time without women.” It was happily said, though seriously advised, most pirates weren’t exactly known for their total respect of women.

The pirates was not her kind of people, they where to...foul in the mouth and loud in general. Her eyes examined the friend, then the rat. She was feeling safe when with Buddy, he was brave. But she had to admitt he was a little...naive. But it just added to his charm at times, he was the kind of guy that just walked around and lived life to the fullest. Sometimes Erin wished she could have been a little like that, but she could not...she had far to much things to do.

She gave a small nod when the pirate talked about freeing her, then she waited patiently for the collar to be removed, when it finally was she rubbed one hand to the back of her neck. "Thank you" she told him slowly. She then looked to the rat man when he returned to them and began to talk, she did not say anything but she noticed his gaze and took a step away in behind Buddy.

She waited until he was all done, then she sighed and noticed that she had without thinking taken hold of the pirates shirt at the back. She murmured something and slowly let go of the clothes before she smiled a little. Erin accepted the cloak and slowly dressed herself in it. "I will try to remember that, thank you again. I really have much to thank you for Buddy." she said and sighed. "I feel like such a damsel in distress cliche"

“No, not a damsel in distress,” Buddy mused as he looker her over, “More like the fair princess who finds herself in trouble, asks for a noble paladin and instead gets the pirate with a furry friend.” He said with a chuckle, looking back to make sure Scurve was gone before heading to the end of the alley.

He looked down the street both ways for any suspicious characters… well, suspicious characters were everywhere, he was looking more for the ones who kept peering over crowds, who were clinging onto the sides of buildings, who were pushing a stream of people away, the ones who looked like particular characters to avoid. Luckily he didn’t see anybody like that, and with the cloak Erin could blend in with Buddy’s “Saturday Crowd.”

He turned back to the now hooded Erin with a light grin, “Okay, grip onto the back of my shirt again so you don’t lose me in the crowds.” He said, fully understanding why she had gripped onto his shirt the first time, “A bit earlier to leave than I planned, but pretty much nobody else here can be trusted. There’s a boat that’s going leave in a few hours from the docks, they can drop us off at the shore with no questions or payment needed. They still can’t be trusted, but if we’re stuck trusting anybody, it has to be them.” His tone was a bit worried, but he at least knew the pirates. And they knew him, a quick somehow sturdy friendship between people that didn’t trust each other, but they did well enough to get through the entry to Pirate’s Cove.

Buddy turned, peering down the street both ways again before quickly melding in with the crowd, making absolutely sure that Erin was with him before going towards the docks.

Erin laughed at his words, but quickly covered her mouth so that people would not look at them in such a weird way. She sighed softly and gave Buddy a amused look, then she reached and ruffled his hair with her hand. "Well in this case I have to say that getting the pirate was much better then the paladin" she commented softly and winked. "after all, paladins are so common and well it would still make me the damsel in distress" after all was not a princess a damsel? Well maybe, maybe not.

The young lady nodded a little and slowly grasped the back of his shirt, she did not want to lose him along all these people. If she did there was a large chance she would never find him again. She was still paying attention to his words when he was talking. "Seems like you can not really trust anyone in this place, that is a little sad" she commented as the trio walked down towards the docks. From time to time she stopped to examine something, but she soon continued to walk.

“Actually, I find it’s better than all the people you can’t trust are nice and holed up in the same place, it’s less people out there to harass everyday folks.” He said with a slight sense of honest joy. As he navigated their way through the crowd of cut-throat scallywags. Luckily any bumps or shoves to a pirate on these busy streets were so common place they were never stopped by an angry drunken stinking pirate. Ah, yet somehow Buddy found this place rather homey, probably because he liked the seas and stealing as much as any other pirate did, except of course for the fact he liked making sure Erin was safe about a thousand times better.

It took a while of moving past the people walking through the streets, a true testament to how many pirates were really out in the seas, but at last they finally got to the docks, and more specifically to the boat where they were to take refuge. It was rather an unseemly boat, its flag was a jolly roger with a comically large cigar and two-eye patches on a black shredded background. The wooden frame creaked as it so much as sat there, and there were only a few other people on board.

“Buddy, why do you have a person holding onto ya shirt?” A stout dwarven pirate asked as he approached the trio, “Ye don’ want us t’ be chargin’ ya now, do ye? Lass may cost a bit.” He said jokingly with a friendly shove into Buddy’s arm.

“Yeah, yeah. Don’t worry, she can take my cot if she wants, I can watch from the crow’s nest.” Buddy responded with a smile. They still weren’t to be trusted, but they could be trusted more than anybody else in the city, since Buddy was one of their own until he got a ship, and even after that they would still be allies.

“Well, lass. Welcome t’ th’ Blind Lungs’ only ship, named after our crew.”
