Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

In one of the many dozens of alleys in the backwater cove village, a man in a black pea coat was bargaining with a very large, very angry looking man. The two seemed to be arguing over the price of a boat, a small vessel, a gondola really, meant to carry two to three people. As their voices were raised, the man in the pea coat drew a heavy, master work cutlass, and held it to the man's neck. The man sighed, and held out his hand. The other man lowered the blade, and placed a few coins in the man's hand, and stepped into the boat.

Chess was sleeping on some boat from the night before. The sky land, or something. She just called it the above. It was very strange and very bright during the days. She normally wasn't use to the concept of day and night either, just sleep and awake time. Quite different, they were so strange. Maybe they should be more like the Drows, their way was much better. Being cold she pulled a tarp in the boat over her and slept quietly. Not really noticing any arguing or yelling, or when someone stepped into the boat.

Will sighed, and grabbed the long pole lying across the small boat, and used it to push off from the small dock. He slowly pushed the vessel along the cavern wall, using the small currents from the see to gain a bit of speed. Eventually he stopped poling for a moment, and lit his lantern, casting a light on the encroaching gloom. He sighed, and scratched his bald head, covering it up with his black cap when he was done. He set the lantern on the front-most seat of the boat, and began poling down the darkening tunnel once more. He began to hum an old sea shanty, a particularly sad one that used to act as his lullaby when he was much younger.

Chess rustled a bit at moment, yet it continued to relax her sleep. When the humming started she slowly became awake. It would've probably put her to sleep if she was tired, but the differences in sleep woke her up. She gently sat up and pulled the tarp around her like a blanket and sat back against the back of the boat. So someone had moved it? She stared at them, still trying to fully wake up and let everything register.

When Will heard the small rustling behind him, he quickly turned around. There, curled up in a tarp was a small, Drow girl. He blinked, scratched the side of his face, sighed, and sat. "Well, this is a surprise. My name is William, and it is a pleasure to meet you my lady." he said with a smile. He offered his hand in a greeting.

Chess blinked when the person spoke to her. Quick to introduce himself and offer his hand. She ignored his hand for now. "Chess, all you should know for now." She said and turned to look back at where they were coming from. "Where are we exactly and if you don't mind can you drop me off at a place that leads back into the Underdark? Sorry to be rushy, but I should be getting back." She spoke with a light smile.

Will smiled, "Alright Chess, I shall take you home. I am actually going that way myself. We, little miss, are in Pirate Cove, currently in one of the lesser know tunnels." he smiled, and stood, and began pushing down the tunnel again. He began humming again, the same song as before, "You don't mind if I sing, do you? I can stop if you like." he asked politely. He had spent time among Drows, and although he had learned little due to his state of constant inebriation, he did remember a few things on how to treat a Drow woman.

Chess tilted her head to the side. She was use to be answered and obeyed quickly from males in the Underdark, but she knew that society was different in The Above. "You seem odd and a bit too friendly..." She told him bluntly and honestly.

Will frowned slightly, "Well, that may just be your opinion. I think I'm just friendly enough, but odd, yes...I am very odd." he said with a quick chuckle. "Don't worry. You will be home soon and you won't have to-" his sentence was cut short by a loud roaring noise. He paused, dropped the pole to the bottom of the ship, and picked up the lantern, shining its light over the water. He saw a horrible sight, that of a huge, dark whirlpool.

Chess panicked almost instantly. She grabbed hold of the side of the boat for some kind of support of safety. "What is that!? Make it go away! I don't want to die!" She shrieked in a shrill girl voice and waited for her end to come, water and then dying. She didn't even know how to swim.

Will's eyes grew hard, he knelt down near Chess, "Chess, I need you to hold your breath. This whirlpool is going to take us to the underdark, alright? I just need you to take a deep breath, and hang on to my neck, got it?" he spoke quickly. They had about ten seconds before they would be sucked, boat and all into the whirlpool, which would complicate things further on. He would much rather jump into the hole alone, and get a running start, then be stuck in the sharp wreckage of a boat.

He was lying, her knowledge of the tunnels didn't even come close to here, maybe the Dark Lands, but not the underdark... She didn't care, she sucked in her breath and puffed out her cheeks with air and grabbed hold of the strange man's neck. She just hoped he was right, she really didn't want to die. Just wanted to go home. She offered a prayer to the Goddess before they went under.

As soon as Will felt the girl grab onto his neck, he too sucked in a deep breath, and dove into the whirlpool headfirst. He was catapulted down, lantern in hand, into a pool beneath them. The tunnel they were in was dark, but the falling water from above seemed to glow. He sat down on the side of the pool, and looked to his left; through a huge hole in the wall. There he saw the boat he was just in, catapult down a waterfall, to be shattered by a heavy forest of spiky rocks. "That is why we jumped." he said to Chess.

Chess was instantly drenched in water. When they were out of it she let out her breath and breathed heavily, for someone of her age anyways. When the boat shattered her heart sank. How were they going to get anywhere now? She let go of Will's neck and dropped to the ground. "Thanks? I think.... so how do we get out of here?" She said and ran her fingers through her hair, she didn't like being wet like this.

Will thought for a moment. "I guess we should just follow the tunnel, when we come to a fork we can decide from there, we just need to head down." He smiled, and stood. He undid his spear from its holster on his back, and tossed it to his right hand, using it as a walking stick. He took a few steps, and stopped. He hated walking in wet shoes. He sighed, and kicked off his boots and socks, followed by his heavy, damp coat. He tied them all into a bundle, which he tied to the top of his spear. He turned to Chess, "Ready to go?"
