| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

A large black wolf padded silently over the smooth cobbles, its fur made it blend with the surrounding shadows, and its striking blue eyes shone like a pair of paper lanterns. The wolf darted between the feet of the crowd, stealthily and almost silent. He made his way over to a small trough, made for horses, and shoved his head into the cold, dirty water. The wolf brought his head out and shook it wildly, sending water and debris out in a wide circle. The wolf wandered over to a nearby alley, and walked down the narrow passage to the end. He moved a small wooden pallet, and uncovered a tunnel, which he crawled down. He emerged moments later in a dimly lit basement. He climbed up a rickety flight of stairs and entered a smoky barroom. He trotted over to the fire, and laid his head on his paws. A bowl of ale was placed in front of him, along with a few scraps of pork. He ate and drank quietly, savoring the fatty meat and sweet ale. He gave a contented sigh, and stared into the depths of the fire. He felt a small hand pat his rear haunch, and then a startled shout. He turned to see a mother grasp the hand of a child, the child who had just patted him. The bar owner looked surprised, and nearly dropped the glass of cider he was holding. There were stories about this dog, this wolf named Siaru, and the mother was merely looking out for her child. The wolf stood up, and walked over to the stunned mother and smiling child. The dog looked the child over, and rubbed his head against the boy's hand. The mother gave a sharp exhale of relief, and whisked the child away. The wolf went back to the fire, and continued to gaze deep into the flames. |

Jalex stepped in from the darkness that accented the outside of Balefire. In this place, he seemed to glow against the background. The contrast brought a smile to the man's face as he looked over the barroom, eying the crowd with an almost amused curiosity. It had been a long time since he had been in Balefire, and he wanted to enjoy the night. At least, more-so then the last time he was here, when he was almost constantly stuck combating some of the lesser denizens of the dark city. As he stepped up to the bar, he sat down comfortably, smiling to the bartender, "Good evening, friend. Anything light? I need to be out of here soon." He set down a few gold coins on the surface of the bar, looking over the room as he did. This was one of the calmer barroom's he had seen in the town, filled with less of the normal scum one would find in such a place, or rather, one would expect to. He could only imagine there had to be a small part of the population that was too scared to leave after the darkness took over the place, so it only made sense that there were a few good people. His eyes set curiously over the wolf. It was not common to see such a wild animal in the midst of town, especially sitting so care-free in a barroom. He looked to the bartender, an eyebrow raised, "What is a wolf doing in a place like this? Or am I not looking hard enough..." |

The bartender looked the man in the eye, "That's Siaru The Wolf. He has been around these parts for a long time. Some say he's a spirit, others a demon. I myself think he is a perfectly good guard dog." he said simply, placing a mug of coffee on the counter, and whisking away the coins. He dropped them in a small bag beneath the counter, and wandered off into the kitchen. The wolf near the fire heard all of the conversation and smiled inwardly. He loved to spread rumors, especially ones about himself. He spread his paws in a yawn, showing off his shining white teeth. He yawned again, this time emitting a small whine, and plopped himself down by the fire again, His ears twitched, and he turned his head behind him to see a new arrival in the bar, a burly, dark bearded man with glistening orange eyes. The wolf smelled the stench of carrion and stood, facing the man. When the orange eyed man sat at a table, he thumped his great sword onto the table top, and ordered a drink. The wolf knew trouble would begin soon, and he would not sleep by the fire until then, he would wait, listening and watching intently. |

Jalex turned his head to eye the new arrival, he had a bit of a bad feeling, as he always did before something chaotic broke out. He ignored it for now, taking a small sip from his drink in front of him. He would try to relax as best he could before anything chaotic broke out. Every now and again his eyes darted back to the man, and then to the wolf that laid itself in front of the fire. He was not fond of this place, he decided. With a sigh, Jalex turned in his chair, "I suppose this place is just a strange contrast compared to the rest of Balefire, it's kind of refreshing." His eyes fell over the man in the back with a bit of discontent, looking over the rest of the crowd. Leaning against the bar, he crossed his arms, "Though some things will never change no matter how many smiles you put there." He hoped his comment would land where it was meant to. He had a bit of a desire to start something, he'd admit. It had been a while since he had some fun, beyond a few rabbles of bandits that wandered the roads at night. He did love that Balefire was always a guarantee for some fun. Nice, violent fun. |

The wolf smiled. He liked this man, the one sitting at the bar; most would not dare to think like that in this town, let alone speak like it. He eyed the orange eyed man suspiciously, his claws digging into the wood of the floor. His tail thumped on the floor in a legato rhythm as the orange eyed man munched loudly on fatty pork, throwing bones at the wolf while laughing. It seemed, for several minutes, that nothing would happen; until the man got up to pay for his meal. A woman and child, the pair from before, got up to leave the bar. The man reached out to grab the woman's waist, but she met his grab with a quick jab of a stiletto. The man roared with rage and raised his fist to strike the woman, who was already behind the bar, next to the bartender. The wolf growled, and took a few steps toward the man. The orange eyed man began to laugh and mutter a few words in another language. The words were odd but the message was clear, "Nice doggy. Pretty puppy." The wolf growled louder and barked, leaving a ringing echo howling through the bar. The man took a step forward, and the dog loped toward him, teeth bared. |

Jalex had quite a problem with folks that took out some of their pent up aggression on women, so he was already on the man, sword drawn. His eyes darted to the side, his instincts telling him to move back a few feet as the wolf leaped from the floor. It wasn't a good thing to get between a wolf and what it decided to attack, but another rule of Balefire popped into his mind. If there was a fight in a bar chances are anyone with a weapon in the bar will most likely join. That was one part of this town that had always brought a smile to the swordsman's face, he could always rely on it to release a large payload of aggression. His eyes scanned the room, and thankfully there were very few people that seemed to be stirring up from the commotion. He merely shrugged, moving around the wolf and his pray, looking over the room with a wry grin, "I'm siding with the wolf here, anyone have any objections to that?" He turned his head slightly to see the orange eyed man's somewhat feeble attempts to hold off the wolf with a bit of a chuckle. He was good at heart but there was always that little spark inside him that loved the chaos brought about from fighting. A few people stood up across the room, bringing an even larger smile to his face. He spoke smoothly, holding in a chuckle as he spoke, "The Domino effect of Balefire, one piece of trash decides to bare his fangs, and the rest get a shot of courage to do the same. Kind of sad, really." |

The wolf smashed into the man full force, sending him sprawling to the floor. He sat on the man's chest, who was swatting wildly at the wolf's muzzle. The wolf gave a small sigh, and got up from the man, who stood up, and moved in front of the door. He made a move to draw a weapon, and the wolf sprang on him, sending him sprawling out the door, into the raining, muddy streets. The door slammed shut, and the wolf turned back to the barroom. He looked at the man, the one who had sided with him, and gave a small growl, and a flick of his head that told the man to "follow him". He walked down to the half opened door, and padded quietly down into the basement. He sat under one of the blue lanterns above, and waited for the man to come. |

He traced his eyes over the room for a few moments, ensuring no one stood up to be brave. The wolf made short work of the moron who had made his motions for the woman while she tried to leave with her child. The place was calmer then anywhere else in Balefire as far as he could tell, no one had stood up against them. Though, that may have also been because of how bad it would have been if they faced the wolf, and himself. As the wolf motioned for him with it's rather intelligent body language, he nodded to it, following. He was a little apprehensive, but the worst that could happen was he was up against a wolf that was rather intelligent compared to it's wild counterparts. Though, that wouldn't be a great situation, it wouldn't be the worst. With a sigh as he followed, his eyes traced the walls with a bit of amusement. The place was pretty nice, for a basement. His eyes were a bit strained to see, though he wouldn't be one to complain. He spoke smoothly, as if the wolf could understand, "I don't know if you can understand me or not but is there a reason you're dragging me down here...?" He was rather amused by it, at least this wasn't going to be just another visit to Balefire. Though, now that he thought about it... was it ever "just another visit" when it came to places like this? |

The wolf looked into the man's eyes, "In about thirty seconds, that orange eyed man's 'friends' will come running into the bar. They will search the place and most likely withing another sixty seconds they will come down here and see us. We need to leave. Behind you is a small tunnel, it will take us to a safe location. I will explain when we get there." he spoke quickly in a low growl. His eyes looked back to the cellar door. The wolf was about to enter the tunnel when he heard a large crash from above. He swore and began to run down the tunnel toward a small point of light. |

He let the fact that the wolf was talking to him sink in for a moment, but it wasn't a very long moment before the crash above jolted him to jolt up into a run and follow as quickly as he could. He knew he could fight one or two men but there was most likely enough to overwhelm even a stalwart warrior. He remained silent and followed as fast as he could into the tunnel that the wolf was leading him to. As the cellar door was busted open, he could hear some cursing and grunting from the top of the staircase they just ran down. He slowly began to wonder how long they would follow, and if he would actually have to fight a few of them. He had to admit he wouldn't mind a decent battle but, he wasn't looking forward to it... He spoke quietly so that he couldn't be heard from behind, "So when are we going to stop running from them? Or do you intend to wait until they stop following?[color]" Whatever choice, he hoped that if they were trying to escape, his enchanted armor wouldn't bring them onto their trail for longer then they should be there. He wasn't a fan of hounds biting at his heels. |

The wolf came out into the cool night air, and sighed. He spoke to the man, even if he was not out of the tunnel yet. "We keep running till we get to their hideout. Then we get rid of them. I am tired of those idiots messing with my serenity." he glared across the street into an empty alley. "I have been looking for a humanoid who might feel the same way. You got there first, so you were my pick." He spoke quietly now, his voice barely above a growl. "Come on, hurry up. We gotta go." |

He listened close, and nodded to the wolf when he was finally done. The plan sounded good in theory, though he knew that they would probably need more of a detailed one if there was any trouble. That wasn't important for now, however. He would merely follow the wolf for now and knock out any of the idiots on the way. He smiled at the thought of it, guess it was time to test out the new armor. The swordsman let out a sigh as they continued, trying to keep up a good pace with the wolf. He was surprised he had kept pace so far as he had. With a nod, he smiled to himself, "At least this is promising some fun..." He wondered to himself how many of these fools there were as they went on, not sure how many footsteps he was hearing behind them. He knew he was a strong fighter, but put one man up against an army and he stood no chance, no matter what level of strength he was at. He shook his head, dismissing the thought. He would fight with what he had, and if it wasn't enough at least he attempted to help. The warrior took in a deep breath, preparing himself mentally for what was ahead. He was usually not a fan of battle, but he would have to suck it up for tonight... |

"Alright. Just follow me. If we lose them, our job will be easier. If we cannot, we will just have to kill them." he spoke in a rough voice. He looked back to the man and began running down the street toward an alley. He sprinted down the narrow passage, and took a right. He then took a series of complex turns, snaking his way through the maze of alleys and causeways. He came finally to a small courtyard, and jumped onto the top of an old fountain, the water slowly gurgling beneath his feet. His teeth were bared, he was breathing hard, and he was ready for a fight. |
