Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

He felt almost out of sorts as he stepped into the tavern. It had been at least two months since he had touched civilization and it was about time to relax and grab a few drinks. Battle had began to wear down on the young warrior's mind, causing him to become a little stressed with it all. His new armor glinted with some extra light as he entered the already well lit room. The place was full of folks that seemed to be moving around and enjoying themselves with the entertainment of it all.
He approached the bar and tapped it, trying to get the barkeeps attention. After a few moments, the man finally stumbled over, grunting the question of what Jalex had wanted, "Anything heavy, if you would."
He smiled politely and waited for his drink. As it came to him, he took a long swig and let out a sigh. It had been quite some time since he had tasted something as delicious as this. With a nod, he mumbled to himself, "It's good to be back in town..."

"Absolutely," Laneer commented as he joined the muttering, "it is hard to find a strong drink out in the thickets."

He had been watching the reflections dance on top of his mead for a few minutes now. It was not an idle bemusement. He was trying to use the glimmers as a model for a new enchantment he had been concocting. As the seat beside him filled, so too did his hopes of arriving at a solution to a peculiar conundrum involving the application of light as structure.

The old mage glanced over at his newfound companion and offered a wide smile. "Good to meet you friend! You have the honor of drinking with the great Laneer!"

He offered his tankard in one-sided toast and took another drink before letting it hit the bar with a clunk. He took a second look at the man moments later, suddenly captivated. He did not recognize the man from any other stranger, but the armor he chose to wear into the tavern was unmistakeably magical. He would have to find out more about this man and his price.

He turned to the man a little startled, though he didn't show it. It wasn't extremely uncommon to see such straight forward people in towns, especially in a tavern where one could down a glass of courage for less then a gold. He crested a grin over his face and lifted his mug, "Well it is good to have others to drink with for once, Laneer. I suppose it would be rude not to give my name. I am Jalexander, Jalex if you'd prefer."
He nodded his head and downed the glass with another long swig, setting it down and calling the bartender to order another. He intended to enjoy one of his few visits to town as much as he could, especially the town of cascadia, one he hadn't been to for at least five years.

Turning his head to the crowd, he could only bring another grin to his face. He was such a fan of people, the crowds filled him with vigor. After all, it was they he fought for, and it was they he was willing to die for. The room felt a bit warmer for him as it washed over him all.
It could have also been the alcohol.

Laneer nodded as Jalexander gave his name freely. It was upsetting to find yet another person who was unaware of Laneer's importance and status, but that was becoming more common these days. He shrugged off the discovery with indifference and took more time to admire the enchanted metal as Jalexander took down the rest of his drink.

He slid a single coin across the bar to the burly man monitering the status of everyone's beverage to pay for Jalexander's next round as he leaned closer to inspect the surface for a hammer mark.

"So tell me, my boy, a little about this iron bucket you're wearing. It is quite the looker," Laneer shifted the conversation to his interest.

He smiled again before shifting in his seat. He felt his almost-too-tight leather pull at his shoulder and elbow as he reached down to fetch something that seemed to be located on the inside of his coat.

He looked down to his armor for a second before looking up with a grin, "There isn't much to tell, really. I was given it on my travels for helping a wanderer."
He took another drink before sitting down comfortably into his chair. He thought over it for a moment before looking over the man. He seemed to be quite the curious type, though who wasn't if you got down to it. He merely shrugged, "Though I will admit it is quite nice, it seems to have a few enchantments that could help me in taking out a few bits of trash..."

The thought of his intended pray sparked into his head, bringing an annoyed look to the man's face before he shoved his flagon into his face and drowned the memory in alcohol. He had no interest in looking back to that, but he had an interest in cutting such corrupted beings from the population. Painfully so.

As the man reached into his coat, Jalex looked over curiously, "And why does it interest you?"

"Oh, just thought it was a rather odd piece to appear in a tavern. You wear something like that for war, m'boy, not wine nor women. Let me tell you, son, you are to find the latter two here, but this is hardly a battlefield," Laneer explained away his interest, "unless it is over spilt wine or contested women, I suppose."

He took a drink from his tankard and opened his mouth wide to exhale the heat from his throat. It was a strong drink for a strong evening, he wagered. Looking back to Jalexander, he tilted his head to the side and propped his head up with his elbow.

"So, it is enchanted, you say? With some sort of method to get rid of refuse? How very curious, I thought perhaps that you had shined it up before your night on the town, but I did not expect it to clean itself lad!"

Laneer laughed heartily and leaned back in his chair before continuing, "And it was just given to you? I suppose you met with someone of great importance if they were distributing armor. Perhaps it was stolen!"

He laughed again and leaned in to ask his next question. "Did this mysterious benefactor tell you it was enchanted? Maybe it just has a nice polish, right my boy?"

Jalex smiled and chuckled, the man had an interesting way of seeing things, he supposed. Though, when you just walked in from the wilds and desired a drink, there wasn't time to go buy a nice suit to wear in town, least-ways not before his thirst got the best of him. Shaking his head a bit, he merely chuckled again, "Then it's good I'm wearing it then, I have a tendency to select contested women."
He raised his glass after he said it, taking a drink from it. He did enjoy a bit of a challenge from women and there was little more challenge then one that had a knight that stood between you and what you wanted. Though, such things were just trivial things to pass time, he supposed.

He thought over what the man said before he actually proceeded to respond, it was rather easy to tell it was enchanted. It had a hollow feeling that gave him a bit of comfort when it was on his skin. And he knew that it's light was not one of natural shine, and he could tell that just from seeing the armor beforehand.
He spoke with a bit of a whisper, "When you're raised on war, you learn to tell when something is enchanted or not, kind of like you learn how to read people a little better then you should be able, yes?"

The thought of his past brought a bit of a frown to Jalex's face, "Though I would say, I would take an upbringing of drinks and women over an upbringing of war any day, aye?"
He plastered on a fake smile and turned to his Laneer, trying to seem as sincere as possible.

Laneer shrugged at the question.

"I'll not be one to tell you what you prefer," he stated bluntly and brushed the words away from his sleeve. "That is something for a man to decide for himself. So much as chance and fate allows him that luxury, of course."

The old mage took notice of a dark stain on the bar counter near the edge closest to him and he scratched at it half-heartedly with his nail to see if it would budge. The bartender would have to sand down the corners with some weight in the strokes if he was going to get that bloodstain out of the wood.

"But I see no relationship between war and an understanding of the arcane. By your logic, every soldier who survives a battle is inherently more capable of understanding the workings of complicated magic. That is simply preposterous, my boy! The intricacy and exacting standards that must be met before magic will even bond with an item is tremendous, never mind the discipline necessary to identify when magic has been imbued into mundane materials."

Jalex thought it over for a moment before nodding, "I suppose, though I will admit I wasn't raised on the normal arts of war. My family prides themselves in being some of the most challenging fighters there are. At least, they did."

He shrugged as he took a drink, washing away the thought of it. With a huff, he merely turned to the man with a grin, "Though a silly legacy like that is kind of droll, don't you think? Perhaps it's just intuition, or the feeling I get while wearing it. But you seem to know quite a bit about the intricacy of such enchantments, perhaps you could explain some of it to me? I'll be glad to buy you a few drinks to get you through the tale."

He gave the man a grin as he drank down the last of his drink. It was always a curious occasion when he met such kinds of people, especially in bars. He was beginning to be glad he had come to town instead of heading to that bandit encampment he had heard about. Drinking was much more relaxing then going out for a battle with a band of twits.
He looked over the room after setting down the drink for a moment. It was a bit distracting, the crowds of people. He nodded his head to himself as he looked over them. He agreed with the thought in his head that a conversation with someone that actually knew what they were talking about was more fruitful then wandering around aimlessly.
