Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Taika was exhausted and lay on the ground near where a statue had once stood. She looked a little like a lump of feathers and tattered cloth, except for her main left flight wing. Over half of it was just bone and sinew. No muscles, skin, or feathers were on it. The smaller red wing that rested under it made the bone look glaringly white against the bleak surroundings. Her wings were curled around her as she slept fitfully. She was using her buckler as a bit of a pillow, but it was still an uncomfortable way to try and sleep. She hadn't been able to fine a way up to the city overhead without coin and the few people she saw seemed to be set off by her appearance. She didn't understand why.

The sound of the falls drowned out most noise and were a comfort to her when she first got here. She had chosen to sleep between the broken monument and the river so that anything from the forest would be inclined to either leave her alone because she was on the other side of the river or not see her at all because of the large stone where a statue had once stood.

Behind the waterfall, a large door opened silently, as if on oiled hinges, and a man walked out from behind the doorway, dressed in a white coat that was half-unbuttoned, showing off his chest as he lept through the cascading water, his entire form becoming soaked as he landed on the ground next to the remnants of the statue; from what he had heard, a powerful demon had been released from its prison several years ago. He would've liked to see it, to watch the enormous beast's heart beat beneath his scalpel, to see how it had looked beneath its powerful hide.

Soft, Ahriman. Beneath the surface, everything in this world is soft and vulnerable. So very easy to scare, all of them.
A soft, dry cackle filled the doctor's mind, and he looked at the statue, shoving a hand into his pocket and feeling the familiar cool steel of his scalpel. He paused for several long moments, letting the demon's words run through his mind before he shook his head and laughed politely. "Afraid not, Zathuriel. Where I came from, people were a lot stronger than you'd think. I daresay I'm all the example you need."

He almost missed the woman lying on the ground before him, his gaze drifting over her to quickly be dismissed as a bird's carcass, or some other pile of mangled feathers and flesh. Still, the doctor was never one to dismiss what he was given, and so he approached slowly, silently, and lay a warm yet metallic hand on her neck, feeling the slow pulse through his gauntlets. He shook her gently with his spare hand, speaking in a soft and sweet voice. "I'm sorry to wake you up my dear, but I can't help thinking that's an uncomfortable place to sleep. Would you perhaps like to follow me? I've more than a few cots to spare."

Ahriman, you bastard...

The dreams that ran through her mind seemed broken, shattered. She struggled to try and put them together and over and over again failed. Her world seemed to start over from where she hit the ground. She was often surprised that she could understand what people were saying and that she could speak herself, but she wasn't about to question it. Then something shook her and a voice drifted across the surface of her consciousness. Upon realizing she was not alone, she started. Jerking awake she looked around with wide eyes in an attempt to recall where she was. With a few blinks, her gaze settled on the man in front of her. She looked at him blankly for a moment and blinked. She couldn't recall his face at all and she saw nothing really familiar about him. She sighed.

She thought about his offer for a moment and then sighed. She was in more then enough pain already and her reserves of magic were more or less depleted. The healers that she had come across couldn't understand why her one wing was that way and none of what they could do really helped. A few had directed her to some sort of healer's hall, but she had no idea where it was.

"An actual bed would be nice." She finally agreed with him, though her voice was weak. She picked up her buckler and the mace and pushed herself to her feet. Her head had been foggy since that fall and nothing before it seemed to fit. She felt heavy and tired and had the feeling she would have felt like this if he had woken her up or not.

The exposed bone of her wing flexed like a wing should, but with no other structure it had no strength and without feathers across the length of it, she was rendered flightless. Her long hair was a tangled mess and she had not even bothered with it. Many of her muscles felt like they had locked up on her and it made moving difficult. She was however not willing to turn down a decent night sleep. If she could manage that, she would have some more of her magic back and she would be able to heal herself some more.

The doctor smiled down at her, holding out a hand swaddled by steel, and spoke in an apologetic tone. "I apologize about the gloves, but they don't really come off. They're quite handy, I'll grant you, but everything has a price." His face gave the feeling of infinite kindness and patience, as he looked around, and he spoke after several moments of thought. "My name is Ahriman; I'm a doctor. That wing of yours looks pretty nasty; if you'd like, I can examine it for you once we get inside." He leaned close, and there seemed to be a glint of mad glee in his eyes as he leaned forward. "I may not look like it, but I can rival some of your greatest healers."

His hand closed around hers, and he pulled her off the ground quickly, before raising an eyebrow. "A buckler? Is that really a better place to sleep than the ground...? No matter, it's not my concern." He shook his head slightly, laying a hand on her shoulder and walking across the surface of the water slowly enough for her to follow, and climbing a staircase of what seemed to be thin air. "I live behind this waterfall, my dear. It might be dark when we first enter, but you've nothing to worry about. I'll give you something to have a good night's sleep, and we can take a look at that wing in the morning." He chuckled softly, moving towards the doorway and murmuring the password quickly, before laying his hand on the door. It swung open, again with a well-oiled efficiency, and he bowed slightly, before waving her inside. "Ladies first, of course..."
