| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

The day had been overcast, with huge bellowing clouds of gray that danced with lightning and rang with thunder. Just as the clouds began to thin a depart, a thin trickle of blood became visible in the waters of the Black River. If one was to follow the discoloration in the water, a figure would soon come into view. A woman struggling to get to her feet at the edge of the water. She was badly injured, her shoulder dislocated and her shield making the arm hang heavy at her side. Blood darkened a good third of her head and face and of the four wings on her back, one hung uselessly and another had been cut in half. She was in torn clothing, her armor shattered and apparently the only reason she was still alive was because of that armor. The tree above her proved that she had fallen from flight, or at least a great height. She didn't seem able to stand on her own, but she was clutching a mace in her right hand. The weather had thinned the blood enough so it wasn't blinding her. It was then that something else dropped from the sky. The figure landed in the water and gave a harsh laugh. "Poor little Taika." The figure walked over to her and grabbed her by the hair, pulling her head back. She dropped her mace in the process and it clattered against the stones on the river. "So how does it feel, Taika Nia Nyen? Does it hurt?" She cried out then and tried to throw a punch at him. She missed and he grabbed a medallion about her neck. With a sharp tug, he snapped the chain that held it. He then threw her aside. Taika landed on her back in the shallow water and because of her injuries she was unable to get back to her feet or even roll over. The dark figure held up the medallion with pride, then pocketed it. He walked back over to her and placed a knee on her good shoulder. She gasped and clenched her teeth, not about to cry out again. He then grabbed one of the small wings that grew just above and behind her ears, extending it to it's full length. "Perhaps I should take these too. They could prove useful..." He slid the medallion into a pouch at his side and reached for a small dagger in his boot. |

It brought a bit of a frown to the old liches face when he saw the man draw his weapon. A wounded woman versus an armed man... quite fair. There were few things that still bothered the tiefling but... this was one of them. Honor was speculation but there were some things that you just did not do. Especially if a woman is the target of it. Subconsciously, he reached his hand into his sash, drawing out the wand he had not used in quite some time. It had been at least three months since Graham had seen battle, which was surprising to him. Letting out a slight sigh, Graham stepped forward out from the shadows of the nearby trees. His pale white form seemed to glow beneath the sun as he let his cloak drop from his shoulders. The black sash over his torso shifted as he moved his other hand from it, setting it at his side as he raised his wand with the other hand. The gray and black robes that adorned his body seemed to glow perfectly from him. His voice spoke with some venom, though still remained calm and soft like the wind, "I recommend you step away from the woman, I really dislike when people are so dishonorable." He gave a fake grin as he finished his declaration, tipping his head so his snow white hair shifted enough to reveal one blood red eye. A slightly playful glow seemed to come from them. Though Graham himself detested battle, his demon half, hidden deep inside his conscience, loved it so much. He couldn't do a thing about that, not now, not ever. Though... since his recent transformation, it had remained extremely quiet. He couldn't help but smile even wider as he looked to the fiery ring on his finger with a bit of amusement. |

The man's head jerked up, his own wings flaring slightly as he started to rise, pulling the small wing on her head some as he rose, causing her to give another cry of pain that she tried to muffle. He let go of her then and she fell with a small splash in the shallow water. Glowing green eyed looked back at the single read one as the being who had been assaulting Taika stood over her. Her head turned enough to see that someone was there, but the world was still spinning and she felt a bit ill, and the water felt almost hot where it touched her injuries. "Pray tell, fine sir, why I should listen to any recommendation you offer me?" green lightning danced on the dark figure's fingers and down the blade in his hand. Taika took a breath and held it for a moment as he stepped away from her but towards Graham. She tucked as many of her wings as she could tightly against her body before using the distraction to cast heal on herself. If she was quick and lucky, she might be able to at least walk away from this. |

Graham's eyes became filled with malice, his face contorting into a sadistic grin. With a slight chuckle, he spoke with some glee, "Because if you don't I'll turn you into my puppet. Is that woman worth an eternity as a brainless zombie? Maybe I'll let you keep some appendages to make the tasks I give you a little easier..." He began to speak in the demonic tongue, the magic he hadn't used in so long flickering up and down his arm. His undead body seemed to twitch under the spark of magic that ran through his veins. It danced over his fingers, finally sending a magic missile from the tip of his wand. As it went flying, he danced to the side, quickly sending a second from another angle. He really had no intention of letting the man walk away. The second he drew that wand, his demonic half started to grip his senses. This would be a battle no matter what, and however glorious it was, Graham would ensure that the other side felt pain. A lot of it. His lips twisted up, barring his fanged teeth. He had a sick sort of enjoyment from this, one he hadn't felt in a very long time. And now... he could take his time with it. Even if his body failed, he could just take another. And if the girl died in the process of the fight... well her body wouldn't go to waste. At least, not yet. He sped forward once again, clenching his empty hand's fist in anticipation. Getting a grip over his mind, his eyes flickered over the girl, feeling a bit of worry. His face scrunched into a frown as he saw her in such a bad way. This would have to end fast. |

She didn't know it, but the burning sting she felt in her injuries was the water itself healing them as she tried to heal herself. She was going to have to find a way to pop her left shoulder back into it's socket and find out what damage there really had been to her wings... She glanced in their direction a moment and saw that her attacker was busy at the moment. She turned carefully over her uninjured main wing and caught herself with her free hand so she could push herself back up into a crouch. She looked back towards where she had first crashed to the ground and saw her weapon laying there. She carefully tucked one leg, then the other, under herself and took a moment to let the spinning in her head subside before she tried to stand. The man easily blocked the first attack with a bolt of green energy, but the second one hit his shoulder. He snarled, fangs showing as he lept forward and called forth a green flame about his dagger. He swung for Graham's face with the blade and then dropped into a low crouch to kick out in an attempt to sweep his feet out from under Graham. He had changed his focus to this fool who dared interrupt him. He didn't notice her attempting to get up. |

Graham barely moved himself out of the way of the dagger, he started to regret not getting a weapon yet... Not really caring to wonder why he hadn't, he rolled with the sweep to bring himself almost ten feet from the man, sending a magic missile at him as he spun to his feet. He chuckled a bit, throwing his head back to remove his white hair from his eyes. His teeth barred once again, "Ah! This is starting to get fun!" Putting his wand into his sash, he let the white carapace dance over the surface of his hands, the demonic claws of his blood thirsty heritage revealing themselves. Dark red runes began to cover his body as the gray carapace began to grow over his flesh, tinting black after a few seconds over his body. He remained where he was, waiting for the opponent. The demon form would take a few minutes before it would fully kick in, so he would wait. When his wings grew out, he would attack... Letting out a huff, Graham got into position, sliding his leg forward and waiting for any sudden movement from the man. His mind was almost lost to the other side. The abyssal side of him slowly licking across his brain. And then... it stopped growing... a soft whisper in his mind took over, sending the demon half back. The carapace stopped growing across his flesh and seemed to seep off like a snake shedding it's skin. Graham didn't pay much attention, knowing all too well it was his own soul in the ring taking back the body to which it was connected to at the time. Graham merely grinned, opening his hands fully. The magic in him began to seep out, the aura of death and decay growing from him. His twin auras began to irradiate from him like a star. His voice was almost echoing as he spoke, "Shall we turn up the heat of this battle?" |

She stood carefully, her balance off and looking a mess. Her left wing was still missing over half of it's length, but the Black River had managed to reconstruct the bones and tendons that held them together. No muscles or flesh or feathers covered the exposed, though whole, bone. She staggered over to where she had landed and placed her good hand against the tree as another wave of nasia and dizziness washed over her. She had no idea what to do about her arm. It just hung at her side with her shield strapped to it. She leaned her good shoulder against the tree and tried to undo the straps on her shield to release her arm. She needed to relocate the shoulder joint... but how? The man lept up into the air as another bolt of magic came his way. He stayed air-born for a moment as he hissed his own demonic tongue. It sounded a bit like acid being poured over flash. A neon green circle appeared on the ground where he had just taken off from and figure was summoned into being in that circle. A black winged fallen angel stepped forth. Dark colored chainmail covered most of the fallen angel and he had a long blade in his hands. The summoned demonic being looked from Taika to Graham. That was when he noticed she had moved. "You deal with him, I'll deal with my little toy." He hissed at the fallen angel. The fallen angel charged Graham, sword starting low to the ground and swinging upward in an arch as the man dove towards Taika. |

His body snapped back at the last second, the blade going through his skin easily enough. The slash across his cheek was barely deep enough to call it painful, but he couldn't help but feet annoyed at the whole thing. Lifting up his wand at the creature, aimed right for it's mouth, he growled to it, "Mind your manners, boy!" The missile fired, soon followed by a second. The blood coming from his cheek was discolored, almost as if it had no life or oxygen in it, like the ooze of it was merely a place holder for what once would've been there. It fell to the ground heavily as it dripped off his cheek. His eyes went wide in amusement as he looked at the creature. The laughter that passed his lips seemed almost painful in the way it dipped in and out of a deeper pitch then you'd expect from his voice. His fingers wiggled in the air as he eyed the creature. He wondered... would it really be worth it, showing it now? No.. not yet. His eyes narrowed a bit as he ran backwards a few feet, though still close enough so his aura would wash over the living creature in front of him. He hoped the unholy aura coming from his body would at least wither the creatures power somewhat. His eyes kept flickering over at the woman. How long could she hold out in the face of that man? And could he summon this creatures corpse to use against it's own master after he slew it? He'd just have to figure all that out... With a start, he bursted forward, speaking words to send another missile point blank into the beast. He wasn't worried about wounds he'd suffer, At least, not quite yet. |

The fallen angel slid in the soil as it's attack fell too short. He didn't have time to block the counter attack though and was nearly knocked off balance by the blast. The second one succeeded in knocking him down and he lunged up again, enraged, and charged blindly at his attacker, swinging wildly. His face was a mess and it was clear he couldn't see from one of his eyes. The man who summoned the being landed hard near Taika and reached out to grab her. She pulled away and staggered backwards. He was now between her and her weapon and she hadn't managed to get the shield off her arm. He laughed, harsh and sharp. "Maybe I'll let you live little Taika," He then kicked her square in the stomach. She doubled over, and let her knees take her weight. "If you are a good little toy and stay where I put you." He then turned away from her to focus on getting rid of this nuisance. Taika saw a small broken and rusty blade hidden in the underbrush near her. She grabbed it with her good hand and lurched at the man's back, digging the rusted blade into the joint where his wing met his back. He howled in pain and twisted around and she held tight to the handle before being thrown off him. She looked in her hand and saw she just had the handle, the blade had broken off. "You really want to die, don't you!" He shouted at her. |

The blade pushed into his body right above his stomach, and the hollow laughter that passed his lips as it did was accompanied by a trickle of blood leading down his chin. He couldn't help but cackle at it as he held his wand into the creatures chin, with a hollow tone, his voice seemed to echo almost telepathically, "I hope you can function headless...." He released the magic missile point blank at the creatures chin, being forced painfully off the blade that laid itself through his stomach. He hit the ground with a roll, his body shaking as he tried to raise himself back to his feet. He felt almost sick, yet at the same time, the feeling felt distant, like he wasn't feeling it at all, but someone else was. The black ooze that replaced his blood flowed out of his stomach slowly, like an icy river passing over a curved bend. He looked upwards, into the woman's direction. She was holding her own, he'd give her that. For how long was up to speculation, but he had a bit of faith. She had proven resilient so far, though everyone had their breaking point. And it seemed that the winged man had every intention of finding that woman's breaking point. Or vice versa. He could only smile at her resolve to battle even when she seemed broken and beaten. It was a feature rare to find these days, and one you could always respect. At least, in Graham's opinion. Looking forward, he clenched his fist, letting the bones crack against one another as he did. |
