Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Headache, bruises. Owie. And burns, plenty of burns. Purging was painful, how did he escape with his life? He sat inside an Inn with his belongings scattered across the table. There was sun outside so he was avoiding going out there until he could get any rips in his clothing fixed. Very little money, not like he needed it. A few viels that contained the blood he would be drinking for the next week or two. What was he going to do and where was he going? Karula chewed on his finger with concern, trying to not think about what had happened back there, erase it from his mind.

The bitter chill of the morning air nipped at Marcus' nose leaving a sensation of pleasure and comfort. As he approached the oak door in front of him Marcus noticed that the temperature was slowly rising. With a cautious look to and fro down the windy road that bent through the small community Marcus placed a single hand on the door handle. With a giant heave he pushed the door open and yanked it forcefully behind him. A sudden blanket of warm air tightly clung to his body leaving an unpleasant feeling in his bones.

A young boy caught his eye as Marcus slowly examined the room. With a quick motion to the bar keep Marcus began to edge his way toward the man at the oak table.

"It's a bit early to be calling it a night my boy!" said Marcus with a jubilant grin when he was finally within earshot.

Karula noticed the person coming over, he started to bundle his clothing together into a small pile and made sure his staff was in range of grabbing it. He has had a bad luck streak for most of his life, he doesn't take too many chances. Espisacally when people find out what his being is. The man spoke to him with a grin, the Vampire just stared and shrugged at the statement. "I'm in no condition to be found if they are searching. No condition to be in sunlight either." He said and started to pocket the money that he had been counting in his hand. Enough for a few meals for someone that needed to eat, he didn't. What use did he have of that stuff?

Marcus bellowed a sort of deep laughter from the bottom of his belly upon hearing the young man's reply. The laughter continued for only a few seconds but it was harsh enough to cause Marcus' eyes to water slightly. With a quick brush the salty tears melted into his humble sleeves. Without waiting for an invitation Marcus slowly pulled out the old creaky chair and took a seat.

"First thing you need to learn my boy is that you live in a world full of fairies, fiends, and fools. This ain't no ordinary world and if you want to blend in you better do a dern good job of hidin' it. Oh and yes before you go asking your questions, I know your a vampire...big whoop. You'll find all sorts of ghouls and goblins in these parts and no I won't tell anyone your secret. Now....

Lets tend to these wounds my boy or would you rather sit there hunched over like that all day?"
said Marcus in the most genuine and kindly manner he could muster.

Karula gave an annoyed frown at the laughter. What was so funny, that most of the people he considered his protectors were destroyed? He shook the thought from his mind and listened as the man spoke about something he didn't quite know where it came from. He went on like some kind of elder person. He blinked his red slightly glowing eyes in the light of the room. It felt uncomfortable but he did his best to ignore it.

"I don't know if they are hunting for me or continuing killing off the ones that matter. Also, it's no secret. Vampirism, nothing special. Don't like it." He said and started to fold his small pile of clothing that he would put on later if he had to leave the Inn. "If you can tend to my wounds, I'd be grateful." He said with a grin and wondered what the man wanted in return, if anything. He didn't need money, and he could give him some of what he got.

Marcus' lips curled in an effort to contain his amusement. The old dragon said nothing and simply rose from his seat. As Marcus' neared the boy a sense of foreboding overwhelmed him. The sudden urge to disappear from the world once more crept up on Marcus' like some sort of ill plague.

"No," thought Marcus deliberately in a solid attempt to inspire himself. "I have spent far too long hiding in the depths of the world hoping for change. I know I can affect this world and do so for the betterment of our kind."

As if all of his issues were suddenly resolved Marcus looked at the young man straight in the eye, beaming a plethora dusty white teeth. "I don't know why these people are hunting you down or why, but you seem alright in my book...even if it is a pretty big book" said Marcus just seconds before he began to chuckle at his own joke. His eyes sparkled with both experience and joy as his wrinkled hand stretched out.

An inaudible word was spoken and a brilliant light suddenly burst from his palm. The solid white beam traced over the young vampires body in quick patterns. lacerations and simple bruises would quickly vanish but unfortunately Marcus would soon realize his unmatched skill was quite inadequate. His brows furrowed and a bead of sweat flowed freely from his nose.

Karula grinned, this person barely knew him and he was ok in his book. If that counted for anything, would be bother to explain what had happened back in the depts of the Norwood Forest? No, keep it to himself, or exactly what happened to himself anyways. "'Purging the Unholy' is what they called it." He said and tried to relax his mind as his body healed, then he felt the pains of the spell. Yeah, he was an Unholy being and he had almost forgotten that. He cringed at the pain that came upon him quickly, and tried to ignore it. "Ah yes, things I even forget. Gods I hate being a Vampiric being, has caused me so much trouble." The vampire said offhandedly when the Man finished. He wringed his hands once, hoping for numbness.

As the white hot beam receded back into the silence from whence it came a startling realization flooded Marcus'. The look of desperation and obvious pain that was on the young vampire's face struck Marcus almost like a fatal blow. Marcus urgently leaned down and spoke to the lad in the most caring tone he could muster.

"I am so sorry my boy I forgot that your flesh would react like that. Seems I am forgetting a lot these days." Marcus unfortunately had lost almost all of his skill in the bowels of the mountain that had been his self imposed prison for so long. Only a simple knowledge and the fading words to a few minor spells remained in his dusty, cob web infested mind. Marcus' attempted to check the man's body for remaining wounds. Only a few visible lacerations had lingered that of which could be managed. Marcus' hoped that his display of heroics didn't cause the boy more pain.

Marcus' eyes suddenly widened as he realized that he could at least partially make up for the pain that he had caused the lad. He quickly darted a bony hand into his coat pocket and pulled out a simple herbal save. He ushered it towards the vampire.

"Here, just a few natural herbs I found out in the forest, just apply it to anything not quite scabbed over yet. I didn't catch your name by the way...I am Margarothian Unikarkeoiä Yutaiemoshtocor." said Marcus with a humble tinge to his voice.

Karula cracked his shoulders and worked the pain out of his system and tried to ignore it. Felt like a light burning over his entire system. "Don't worry about it, things happen." He said and took his light jacket and wrapped it around his arms for now and pulled it over his torso. He started to button it together when the man put forward some herbs. He smiled and took them after he finished with his jacket.

"Ah, thank you." He said and replayed the name over again in his mind. How did one get such a name? It wasn't Human, or even Elven. Like nothing he had heard before. "Is there something shorter I could call you, and I'm Karula Drifher. Now, is there anything I can do to repay you for the kindness that you've shown me?" He asked without missing a beat, he was using to saying almost those same exact words to quite a few people.

Marcus' brow ruffled at the comment..."Something shorter?" he thought. A subtle wrinkle formed on his forehead as Marcus wondered why his name was so perplexing. "Aha! Silly me, men must not be able pronounce my name! I wish I had thought of that!" said Marcus as he slowly turned to retake his seat. His jaw dropped ever so slightly so that he could respond when suddenly his thoughts were cut off by the burly bartender. The great oaf of a man came barreling toward Marcus with twin goblets of a hearty ale. With a obnoxious thud he slammed them on the table, droplets of brew tussled about in the chalices and spilled on the oak table.

Beer stained and greasy, the barkeep stood with a unearned sense of dignity. His stubby fingers pointed at Marcus, "Payment?" he asked in a grotesque tone of voice. With a scoff Marcus pulled a pair of coins from his coat and handed them to the barkeep. Without a word of gratuity or humility the gruff man turned about and trudged along to his bar. Obviously ruffled by the innkeep's behavior Marcus turned back to Karula and gestured his offering to him.

"You can call me Marcus lad, oh and don't get fussy about someone being nice to ya it's what I do! So tell me about these undead hunters or whatever ya called them."

Raising an eyebrow, Karula questioned what he meant by that. "Silly man can't pronounce my name!" Before he could question it, the barkeep came over with two goblets. He look at the two of them, hope the man intended to drink both of those, vampires couldn't digest anything besides blood. He paid for the drinks and the barkeep vanished from their pressance as if the world around him didn't matter, suppose it didn't.

"Returning favors is what I do. Anyways, Marcus. What did you mean when you said man cannot pronouce your name? It's obviously not Human or even Elven, and you don't appear to be any kind of other creature. What are you if you don''t mind me asking." He said and took a seat and sat down in it at the table. Tell him about the Undead Hunters? Close call, but it wasn't right. "Ah, them. Not sure if that's what they are. I was probably the only Undead being in the area, killed most of us. Were-animals, Half-Dragons, anything out of the normal." Karula stated and looked at the window, he didn't want to think about it still, but he didn't want to keep it to himself either.

With a soft chuckle Marcus began to explain his reasoning, "Its quite simple really my name is difficult to pronounce. No mere human is capable of reciting it accurately. You see its more raucous or rough I guess you could say, only a very large voice box is capable of rendering the proper tones."

The soft fleece of his coat tugged lightly on the oak table as he leaned in closer to Karula. "Not everything you see is what its meant to be my boy," said Marcus softly. Marcus then made a deliberate effort to center himself right in front of Karula, his eye's nearly matching the gaze of the vampire. Suddenly his pale white eyes flashed brilliantly with the intensity of a thousand beautiful pearls. Within only seconds the sudden change in appearance vanished and Marcus leaned back comfortably in his chair.

"We are all misfits in a way I suppose. I guess its just a measure of our character as to how we react to circumstance," said Marcus in a very matter of fact tone. "Now about these hunters of yours, I don't suppose there is anything that can be done to stop them? We can't have them killing breeds and broods of dragons for no reasons," said Marcus as he visibly cringed at the idea of murdered half-dragons.

Karula nodded like he understood what Marcus meant, pretending. It was a bit obvious as well if anyone care. Marcus wasn't Human, that was clear by now. When he noticed, Marcus was staring at his eyes and he just looked back. Then his eyes changed very dramaticly and then back to normal. He was surprised, and jumped a bit.

When Marcus leaned back, Karula just looked at the table in contemplation. He was something else, not sure what yet. Something big according to the voice thing. That could narrow it down to a few things, but he also seemed intelligent so not just some Giant using magic. He would figure out another time. Now wasn't a moment to think about it.

He nodded once again at the part about misfits, this time just agreeing. "Unless you want to attack a well armored Keep of people that were able to take out some of the most powerful people I've met in my life, I don't believe so. It was more like an invasion, invade and slaughter." He said with a bit of anger in his voice, one place he could call home after three years.
