| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Another loud whistle flew into the air before exploding into the delightful sight. 1000 pieces of ashes, dust, embers, and colors exploded from the sight, raining down just beyond the crowd and into the desert. But, before anybody could trace the falling embers, another whistle appeared to shoot through the air, creating another sparkly explosion in the air. It was a beautiful display of fireworks, each one big and bright and clear across the desert sky. Behind the scenes, Asteria worked hard to fire them off in a sensical order. It was easy, fitting a fireworks display in a certain color distinction. She toiled over the dust color for hours upon end, trying to match the right colors and the right sequences. But it was worth it. The nobles of this fine town had stacked up quite a lot of gold for her troubles. She sprayed the fireworks in a rainbow arc above the city square. It was not windy, so the fire genasi had no trouble executing at that. She managed to trip over a box, though, and set off two fireworks before their time. to cover it, she started going every other third, trying to create mathematical sense of her work. Another thing the girl was good at. It was almost the end of this section, then she could go wild. Her imagination succeeded to take over at the finale. It exploded in a great ball of fire as dragons swooped and cardinals soared, all produced by magic she possessed. The sky was burning, you could see it for miles. The sights were spectacular, burning in every color of the rainbow. She had gone through the hassle of creating eight full boxes of Peony Fireworks and Chrysanthemum fireworks, as well as her special moving fireworks. As she fixed up the mess she made, she looked across the square at the dispersing people. It was amazing at how many people had gathered in the desert. Asteria smiled to herself while picking up more of the scraps. |

Bang Bang. Loud Noises, sleep time it was. Pulling the makeshift blanket over his head more, he curled into a tighter ball his small and flexible body could make. It was simple enough to sleep in a crate in an alley way, another thing to be able to fit into the bottom of it. Why were people senting off explosives when people were trying to sleep? It wasn't fair, he spent the former day walk through the desert and now he was trying to sleep off the miles. Well, the banging didn't work very well. Opening his eyes he looked into the sky and moved the ragged cloth that was his blanket from his head. He squinted from the darkness of sleep to the bright flashing of fireworks. The lights burned his eyes for only a few moments before he adjusted and moved his body to a sitting position inside the crate, the ragged cloth draped over his shoulders as he pulled it around his torso so that the warmth of sleep wouldn't leave him. It didn't work as well as if he just went back to sleep but at least he didn't shiver like he did when he normally woke up. Bang Bang. Standing up he let the cloth wrap around him like a cloak almost down to his knees, Hotaru walked through the area looking for the source. He wasn't mad or anything, just wanted to see who it was. Fireworks. Why must something go wrong when he requires sleep? Oh well, he'll wake up sooner or later. Looking at the dispersing crowd, where was he going again? Ah it didn't matter, the show was over and he could probably go back to sleep. Looking around he saw one person cleaning up the mess of shooting off fireworks. He just stared at them wondering if he should go back to sleeping or say something or ignore them and be on his way. His mind was only half awake anyways, so he'll let the world decide for him. |

370, 371, 372... She quietly counted up the scraps of cardboard that littered the square. It didn't matter what happened to the scraps around her, just as long as the square was clean. It was part of the deal, anyways. A young boy ran up and gave her the money, which she gratefully took with a nod. The community was small, at least 200 miles out from the greener lands, but even farther away from the large Istan City. She remembered going into this town when she was little, for her father was a master at fireworks. The red sash that ran around the boy's waist marked him as a messenger, and he was very quick on his feet. She opened up the pouch and smiled at the amount. They were gracious with this little event. It should be able to cover all her needs for the next three weeks, including traveling expenses and everything. She totaled it up to at least 600 gold, more or less. With a smirk on her face, the little motivation put a jump in her step and she picked up at least half the square two times faster than normal. Asteria was about done with everything when she stopped to look up at the sky. The moon glistened down on the square, and the mosaic-like plaza glistened back. It was a sight to behold, since the little city was rather quiet at this time at night. That's when she noticed a solitary figure standing in the middle of the square, staring at her. With a slight cock in her head, she left her current job and started walking towards the youth. "Can I help you with something?" |

Hotaru stood in a trance, out of it when the person spoke to him he didn't seem to register what she said at all. He got every word, just what could she help him with? A lot of things, but would be bug a person's daily troubles that needed help with some random person? Everyone needed help with something. Suppose he should say something? Well there was this one thing that he was sure a lot of people agreed on and didn't know if she knew anything about it. "You could help me destroy the very existance of the being named Vernon." He said as an offhand thought as he glanced around at the plaza. There was noone else around and it was nighttime in the desert. Hotaru pulled the cloth over him tighter like it would make it warmer or something. The desert at night was quite freezing compared to the blistering heat of the day. As for about Vernon, it was more of something to say if anything. He smiled when he thought about it, if anyone would destroy that Rat it would be something to laugh at. "At don't worry about that at all. I was just seeing who was setting off the fireworks, who I assume was you." He said and moved one of his hands to rub the corner of his eye with two fingers. Getting the crust out of it, he looked at it on his finger before flicking it off. |

She blinked rapidly at the boy's words. Vernon? She had never heard of such a person. Maybe he was a demon of some sort. Or a drow. But not for the world Asteria imagined a giant rat terrorizing even the greatest of warriors. The woman shook her head several times, trying to rid the nonsensical sentence from her brain. It seemed to be something personal to the boy, as he waved it off. She nodded, accepting whatever answer he gave her. He looked like somebody off the street, with his rag draped over him. "Sorry about that. It was a festival..." Her breath caught in her mouth as she looked to the east. Sand was swirling at least 10 feet off the ground, coming miles closer by the minute. Somebody was up in the belfry, striking the warning call. She grabbed the boy's hand, no matter how much he would protest, if he protested, and started dragging him along the streets and to the nearest inn. |

Hotaru was going to answer when the girl turned her head and his sight followed. Sand, and then a warning bell. A sandstorm, it was approaching the town. He didn't care if he was stuck in it, but this girl was dragging him along whatever or not he wanted to. Not bothering to fight against it. "The eerie voices," He stated as he watched in front of him and followed long obviously no emotion shown on his face about the situation. "sings such tempting lovely tunes," He continued as they approached an Inn. The sandstorm would be here shortly and he had dropped the cloth that he was carrying around him. It fell onto the street behind them, well there goes his warmth. Maybe he would start a small fire or something. Glancing at the sandstorm, he could probably stop it if he wanted. The forces of nature would be met with brutal arcane forces. If the one being able to do it wasn't being dragged around like a little lost child or a pet by some girl he didn't even know. "of blissful evil." He finished up as they got to the Inn and expected the girl to go inside it. How long would the storm last? Hopefully not long because he didn't feel like being stuck in an Inn, he didn't know if wanted posters of him had reached here yet. He didn't feel like destroying stuff today to escape more Guards or anything. |

She glanced at him as she pulled them through the door. Whatever he was talking about, it could wait for later. The sandstorm was on their tail, and the local inn was just about to close down. She hopped through the door, the boy in tow, and slammed it behind her. Asteria pushed the boy out into the middle of the room as the wind tried to bang open the door again. The force was strong enough that even with 130 something pounds, the door was creeping open. Sand blasted into the inn, forcing its way down the hall, into cups and plates, and up peoples noses. It took the whole staff of the place to jam the door back up. Finally, as she adjusted her hunter's clothes, her gazed wandered around the inn. Several people huddled around, keeping their heads down, terrified of the storm outside. There was one or two sneezes that sprayed sand all over the tables. She looked down at the boy, checking if he was okay. He seemed fine, but what he said still dwelled on her mind. Maybe the desert sun was getting to the youth's head. The genasi pulled him over to a side table and sat him down. Two cups of water slid over to the duo and she pushed one towards the boy. It took her two seconds to drain the cup, before looking over at him and nodding. "What's your name? And drink up. You're going to need it." |

When pulled inside the Inn, Hotaru just looked around. It was just a sandstorm, the worst it could do was cover you in sand from head to toe or rip your skin from your bones. She pulled him over to a table and put him in the chair. The door had burst open but he had barely taken notice of it. He didn't care how this town faired against the forces of nature, he was just pondering once again about things that weren't needed. He only glanced at the water when he was told to drink. He didn't seem to show any expression on his face from the point they were outside until now, when he smiled slightly. "'Drink up' you tell me. What am I, your pet? I don't have to if I don't want to." He said this in a joking fashion, most people were serious or offended when that kind of thought came to mind. He didn't care about thoughts like that, or what this girl thought of him really. She wanted to help him out of the sandstorm, but for what reason? "Also isn't it better to give your own name first, or well, more polite? Ah well, tell me your's. Call me Hotaru if you want." He said and took the water and drank part of it. He wasn't really thirsty and he turned to look around the room once again. The people still seemed scared or worried, some were fine like it happened often. They lived in the desert, of course it would ok for those kind. |

She raised an eyebrow at his questioning. Feisty young man, eh? She had no problem with that. "Yes, I tell you to drink up. Go ahead and don't, we'll see who'll be laughing at the end." Sarcasm touched her voice. She wouldn't be beaten this time. Not to a little twerp she picked up off the streets. "Hotaru, eh? Sounds like somebody in the posters back in Cascadia... Hotaru the Chopper. You don't happen to be him, or do you?" A smile slid to the genasi's mouth. "I'm Asteria. Asteria Luxir. Local fireworks maker around here. What brings you to this part of the area?" It was very strange. She felt like a traitor, facing a wanted teenager across the table in the middle of nowhere. Lucky for him, the little town was almost isolated from society. In fact, she usually doubled as a bard for the village. And she had no intention of letting them know a killer was there. It would ruin his hiding spot, as well as ruin her reputation. She would keep his secret. |

Hotaru didn't seem to give her even a look when she told him once again that he should drink some water. "Not saying I won't, just that don't tell me to do things until I at least respect you as a friend if that ever happens." He said as his head was back and ontop of the chair and he was staring at the ceiling. The water on the table, some of it already gone from drinking it. It was gripped in his right hand. "Hotaru the Chopper, never get tired of that name." He said with a small laugh, and looked back at her with a light smile. He drank some of the water and swirled the remains around the glass a bit. "That's the name they gave me for ridding the world of some insolent greedy pigs in Cascadia." He said this casually like it didn't matter to him. He didn't see what he was doing in Cascadia as wrong, not exactly justice but he didn't even see it as a violation of society or a sin. "As for what brings me here, Asteria. Iunno." He said and shrugged playfully as he finished the water. "I'm just wandering. My mom and brothers died of plague, dad left the family before hand. I locked the keys inside of the apartment, and I don't mind sleeping outside. So I'm just wandering Imythess in search of nothing." He said it was like no big deal to him as well, his life was simple in his mind. |

"Respect?" she scoffed. "Ah, then, don't bother going there. Nobody's given me respect in years. Just, most of what I tell you is for the sake of your body. Don't want to damage anything, eh?" She sat back, her hands on her head, a smile on her face. For a boy that young, barely out of a decade old as he looked like, he certainly had a thing for know politics. And, what was more, he knew the world around him, and how it was unfair. He was very mature for his age, no matter how evil or sinister he was. And he certainly surpassed her mental ability when she was his age. But, even a slug could understand that this boy would be a dangerous enemy if you didn't stick to his good side. "Locked yourself out of the apartment? And that's why you're traveling? No injustice or power ruling your motives? Interesting." She leaned forward, heaving a sigh. "Listen, Hotaru. If you want, I can get you a room for the night. It's up to you. And if you need any money, I could also get that for you. Just don't tell the locals around here, please. It would ruin me, as well as the safety of you." |

Hotaru only shrugged. He didn't care, would he even go home if the door was open? Nah, home was boring and in the middle of Cascadia. "I have no goals besides live my life." He said this and tried to think if he even cared if he died, he never let people think he did but would he really? Who knows, if he died he died. He died because someone else killed him or some kind of natural reason if he did. Well, were there other ways to die? Certainly, none to think of at the moment though. Then Asteria offered to pay for a room in the Inn for him. What was she being nice to him for? They'd just met and she dragged him away from a sandstorm. Give him money also? He didn't use money for anything unless it was completely needed. "I thank you for your hospitality, but it's not needed. If it'd ruin you, you don't have to associate with me at all. Also my safety is always in danger, so I could care less." He said and wondered if she would insist on it, when people were nice they did that a lot. Asteria was nice but was there something she was after? Maybe she wanted to make sure that he wouldn't hurt her at all, or just something else. A new friend? Who knows. |

Asteria shook her head. This child was only 11 or 13, years old. The villagers would get suspicious of such things. "I imsist. Just take the offer. If anything the room." Her last sentence was whispered, almost in an annoyed tone. She didn't usually do this for just anybody. Besides, she herself wasn't the richest person in the world. She doubt that she could be even called middle class. But, her sympetic side took over her usually fiery tongue and it was the least she could offer. The youngster seemed so cunning, so daring. It reminded her of Drax. But, Hotaru didn't have a goal, which created a huge chasm between the two, and, in her opinion, was strange. Something in his childhood must have triggered that. Or he just wanted to see the world and justify the evil. Or, he was looking for people to use... It didn't matter. He was a boy and she had money. |

Hotaru shrugged and moved the glass out of the way and put his arms down on the table and layed his head on them. "If you say so, noone is making you though." He said and wondered again why she cared so much. Putting his head on it's side he looked towards a window into the sandstorm that might last a bit longer. No need to go outside anyways, it was lack in the night and Asteria probably wouldn't let him. "You seem to care too much, I hope it brings you happiness." He said in a contemplating mood, it would've been light hearted but he was busy thinking about it all right now. If she was going to be nice to him, he would return the kindness, it was the least he could do. Everyone in the world deserves kindness expect when they seperate themselves from the purpose of their heart. "If there is anything I can do to help you, feel free to ask." |

She smiled. He seemed so young to have the weight of the world on his shoulders. Someday, he was going to have to find himself a girl and get some of that weight off of his mind. For the meantime, though, she would do the best she could to help him. People like him needed to be saved so they could do better things for this world than put on firework shows. "Caring pays you back in ways. Besides, you look like you need to get some sleep, kiddo, and then get out of here. Come on." She hopped up and strolled over to the inn's landlord. With the money she recently earned, she brought back a key for one of their best rooms at half price. "Hop up and get some sleep, will you? I'll tell you when the sandstorm is over." With that, she walked over and sat down at the bar, ordering some alcohol in the process. |
