| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Tazdril Athlano was leaving Menzoberranzan. Not permanently of course, but for the time being, he was leaving Menzoberranzan. Lith My'athar was his destination, and his intent was certainly not peaceful. He was on his way to one of his most challenging assassinations yet. He was going to kill everyone praying in Lith My'athar's Temple of Lolth. Such a peaceful, outcast town was shameful to the drow race, and the Temple was a disgrace to the beautiful Spider Goddess. "Such a difficult target..." worded Tazdril aloud. "Should come with great payment... But I'll have to make due with the satisfaction of bloodshed." Tazdril really was doing this for no payment. He was doing it as a favor. It was a favor to himself, to Lolth, and to the entire drow race. The city of Lith My'athar was a pathetic excuse for worthless slaves to pretend to be surface elves. Given the choice, Tazdril Athlano would have the entire city burnt to the ground, and every survivor sold as a slave to the great houses of Menzoberranzan. Yes, with such an offering, House Athlano would make a real name for itself. Tazdril would forever be known as the one who enslaved the traitors. Tazdril Athlano allowed himself to become absorbed fully by his fantasy, absent-mindedly stroking the hilt of his dagger as he pictured the bloody deaths of a thousand misfit "surface drow". Distracted as he was, he made no note of the footprints in the dust around him. |

Kevlyn's feet violently patted the ground as he ran as far as he could from his persistent bounty hunter. If only he would do as his parents say, he would not be in such a pickle, but due to his open mind, he could not hold in how he was feeling about certain situations. He forced his lungs to work overtime without a break which caused him to wheeze. He wanted to stop all the running away, but that would just make his parents think that they were right about the whole thing, which Kevlyn could not stand for. They think that it's such a big deal that he'd rather not be an elven prince and would like to be anything but an elven emperor one day. His dream was a lot different than the one his parents set for him. He wanted to become an astrologist. As random as that sounds, Kevlyn has always been fascinated by the sky and the stars. As he continued to run, he could hear things such as "Get back here, kid" and "I'll get you one of these days" which were repeated along with a bunch of other random things, which he could not make out due to the wind which whipped swiftly passed his pointy ear. His goal today, was to get somewhere and hide there for a few days. He did this occasionally so he could freshen himself up. He continued to hear the leaves and grass under his pursuers large boots. But then once he found himself at entrance of a large cavern, the footsteps seemed to have faded out. Kevlyn could not countol his curiosity and let it guide him deeper into the cavern. |

He hadn't made it far, towards his destination or into his fantasy, when his attention was captured by the worried, pressing footfalls of someone not far off, accompanied by his (he could ascertain that this stranger was a male by the sound) wheezing. He smiled. An unwary traveler coming to be his first Lith My'atharian victim? Tazdril Athlano drew his blade anxiously. To his amusement, he found the stranger to be not Lith My'atharian, but an actual surface elf. He smiled wickedly, his battered dagger trembling in his right hand, as he approached the elf, who didn't seem to have noticed him yet. Tazdril Athlano didn't blame him; the Dark Lands were no place for a surface elf, and either the poor thing was preoccupied by other things, or just had difficulty seeing in the darkness. Upon rather close inspection, the creature was of noble line, dressed a little too well to be a wayward traveler, but his disheveled appearance gave him the appearance of a criminal on the run. His dark hair hung loosely around his face, but it was not quite thick enough to hide his pointed elf ears. Tazdril could not quite decide what it was, but there was something strange about one of his eyes. The elf was short, nearly a head shorter than Tazdril Athlano himself, and this appealed somewhat to the dark elf's sense of "decency". Although he could probably dispatch the elf rather quickly, he decided he would play with his food. "Why, hello there, surface elf. Any particular reason for your stroll this afternoon? Not that it being the afternoon should be overly apparent to you in such a strange endroit, nor are you reasons for trespassing in the Dark Lands very important to me. I suppose a more appropriate question would be, 'Is there any reason I should not kill you?'" the drow announced to the seemingly lost traveler in the harsher, yet haunting dialect of the Dark Elves, allowing himself a sly grin, contrasting his pearly whites beautifully with his obsidian skin. |

All that ran through his mind was the events which took place within the passed few weeks. He has been running from a bounty hunter hired by his parents who were the king and queen of a lesser known nation. Kevlyn had betrayed them and they were going to make him do things against his will, but Kevlyn would not allow it, so all he could think of to do was run. The exhausted elven prince hunched over to lean on his knees as the wheeze continued which he tried to tame. He looked up from his position to see that an elf with a dagger in his hand stood before him. Kevlyn stood up once the wheezing began to slow down. Kevlyn held up his hands to show that he was not going to attack for any reason. "Kevlyn is not here to hurt anyone. Kevlyn just needs a place to be kept hidden for a while so that his bounty hunter grows frustrated and decides to stop pursuing him." He explained. "Kevlyn is the elven prince of a lesser known nation which he betrayed due to the fact that he does not wish to become and elven prince in order to pursue what he truly desires to do with his life." He added. "Kevlyn wandered in here hoping he could hide here for at least a few days. If not, then Kevlyn will leave." He said calmly. |

Tazdril Athlano smiled sinisterly, but sheathed his dagger anyway. He listened to the third-person story and was slightly amused. Not enough, of course, that Tazdril would spare the creature's life, but enough that the drow would pose as a "friendly drow" for a while. "Sounds like Kevlyn is in need of some help. These tunnels are long and dark, and I doubt highly that a renegade surface elf would last long in the Dark Lands. Why don't you come with me? I will take you to the city of Lith My'athar. I assure you we are very tolerant of surface-dwelling strangers. We could offer you refuge for a little while, and disguise you as a drow if you so wish," said Tazdril wryly, waving an arm casually in the direction of Lith My'athar. If he could get Kevlyn to come with him, he would have an excuse to enter the chapel. He would slay the elf renegade before entering the city, and rush into the Temple, claiming that he found the wounded elf and needed the immediate attention of the chapel's clerics. Once he was out of the public eye and alone with the clerics, he would slay them, hopefully before they could even get off a spell. All these useless servants, Kevlyn included, would be sacrificed on the altar to Lolth's glory. Once again, Tazdril Athlano was fantasizing, but he still well aware of his surroundings, waiting anxiously for Kevlyn's response. |

Kevlyn’s mind still surrounded the events which led up to this day, but he tried to think otherwise for a little while so he could move on. He pondered the drow’s offer. Kevlyn grew self-conscious in the presence of the drow, but again, he did not want to dwell in past events while he was in the cavern. Kevlyn nodded to the drow in response to his offer. “Kevlyn is now pondering your offer to allow him to take shelter in the place of ground-dwelling elves, however, I do not know the full extent of the stay that Kevlyn is forced to remain here. Kevlyn is very thankful for you offer and will be very grateful if you would allow him to stay here. Once Kevlyn thinks he is capable of travelling without having a pursuer, he shall be on his way.” He explained. “If you would be so kind as to show Kevlyn the way, that would be much appreciated. Although Kevlyn has not spent long periods of time in the ground, he feels he would be fine, especially under these circumstances.” He added. |

Tazdril Athlano was thrilled by Kevlyn's favorable, if not unusual answer. "I'm sure you will find that adjusting to the underground is not a difficult feat. There is no wind to blow your things about, no sun to glare into your eyes, and no bounty hunters who seek you," Tazdril explained trying to feign friendliness and innocence. Only Tazdril Athlano, who seeks to use your corpse as a prop. Added the drow in his own head. He began his stroll towards the city of Lith My'athar, his dagger bouncing jubilantly as his feet rose and fell, his hair in his face, but not enough to hide the suspicious grin he wore. "The city is not much farther in this direction. It's a good thing I found you, as I happened to be traveling back to Lith My'athar from the city of Menzoberranzan. Such a horrendous place that is," the dark elf lied as he led Kevlyn towards Lith My'athar. It was difficult for Tazdril to speak badly of Menzoberranzan, but for its own sake, he supposed one lie through his teeth couldn't hurt. "You have never been in the Dark Lands before?" Tazdril asked, hoping that casual small-talk would make the elf feel more comfortable, and eventually nullify any suspicions he had towards Tazdril. |

Kevlyn very much liked that sound of no bounty hunter chasing after him for at least for a short period of time. And the sound of getting away from what he was used to...getting to something different...some sort of new scenery into his travels made him happy. He wanted to get his mind off of things. He wanted to think on the positive side for once. He thought that if he did this, then he might make things easier on himself. He didn't want to have to carry some kind of burden that weighed him down...even if he cared about that something. He made a grateful gesture to the elf. "Kevlyn is much grateful." As the elf walked farther into the cavern, Kevlyn followed him. "Kevlyn is sure that where ever you lead him would be better than waiting around in order to just get taken away." Kevlyn shook his head. "No, Kevlyn has never traveled to the Dark Lands, bu the outside of it has a nice appeal to it which caught Kevlyn's attention." Kevlyn replied. "Kevlyn is sure that once he is shown the underground city, that he shall explore it and get used to the placement of where things are." He added. |

The two elves continued along the path for a while, at least until Tazdril could see the city of Lith My'athar in the distance. The city was probably still invisible to the surface elf, whose eyes were not used to the absolute darkness of the Dark Lands. All that Kevlyn would have seen, presumably, was the dim shine of the faintly glimmering structures of the city walls. Tazdril Athlano paused, his hand creeping towards his dagger. In his victim's state, he doubted that he could be overpowered, and this spot seemed as good as any to create his prop. He turned his head to the left, in order to see the naive little elf's face when his true purpose was revealed to him. Looking at the hunted boy, he realized that it deserved a fair chance. Tazdril Athlano would face the surface elf in a duel. If the surface elf could overpower him, Tazdril would likely lose his life, but the dark elf was certain in his abilities, and in his trust in his "companion"'s sense of "good". "I have a... Confession to make," the assassin began. "I plan to kill you, and use your corpse as a key to get me into Lith My'athar's chapel, where I will use the clerics as sacrifices. I myself do not come from Lith My'athar. I am a drow of Menzoberranzan, a place where you would be hanged just for venturing into the Dark Lands. I wish to challenge you to something of a duel. If you win, you go free. If you choose, you could even kill me. You could go and take refuge in the pitiful city of Lith My'athar, where you would be tolerated and hidden from your pursuer. However, if I win, I will kill you, take you to the Chapel, and sacrifice you-and others-to Her Highness, Lolth. I would ask "what say you?", but you have no say in the matter," he finished his monologue with a cold smile and a rapid movement of his arm. His dagger was in hand in a flash, and he waited for the surface elf to draw his own weapon. |

As the elf led Kevlyn towards the city, his eye began to adjust to the dark tint of the underground city. The rim of his hat helped him out a little bit by giving off some shade as they walked deeper towards the city. At his point, all he could see were shady structures of buildings. And with his bad eye, it made it a little more difficult to see it, but he thought positive as they continued. As they walked farther towards the city, he noticed the elf stopping in his tracks. Kevlyn noticed the elf grab for something at his belt. Kevlyn put his hand on the handle of his sword just in case. Kevlyn grew suspicious of the elf. Kevlyn was surprised to hear the elf's announcement to slay him. Kevlyn smirked at the drow. "You say your skills are unmatchable to those of Kevlyn. Indeed he believes just being an elf is enough to tell you are skilled. But Kevlyn believes that with his skills he can overpower anyother being who tries to assassinate him." Kevlyn said in response to the elf's monologue. "Although Kevlyn does not wish to be responsible for any damage that comes to your own body. And he does not wish to be the one who has to slay you, but if you wish, he will indeed accept your invitation for a duel." Kevlyn said and drew his mightly long sword with his left hand and then placed his other hand around the handle. He glare at his opponent with his only operating eye. |

Tazdril smiled at the surface elf's response. The 3rd person was sort of irritating, but it also made the duel almost feel like a game, as he circled his opponent, dagger drawn, hardly matching Kevlyn's long sword. The dark elf sized up his opponent, as a precaution. He had already done this several times along the journey. He had tried to keep the journey fast-paced enough that his prey would be unable to regain his breath, but he seemed to have failed. His opponent was seemingly unarmored, and didn't appear to be overly muscular. But then again, Tazdril was similarly built, and also unarmored. Besides, Kevlyn, for all his dark elf assailant knew, could have been equipped with powerful magic that he could never have anticipated. The drow weighed all these options as he circled, but he didn't care. He would dodge every spell, parry every strike, and aim to kill, regardless of the tiny surface elf's attempts to thwart him. He decided his first strike would be to the elf's left flank, as he leaped towards his target, blade outwards. Once in range, he brought his weapon-arm down, slashing his blade towards the elf. |

Kevlyn glared at the dark elf. He knew that just by his size and by the flaw in his eye that the drow thought that he had some sort of advantage of him. Kevlyn knew that that was a wrong perception. Kevlyn spread apart his legs to get into some sort of fighting stance. He gripped the sword. The sword he help look well made. It was made of metal. The sword looked banged up from all the travelling he has done and from the hunter he had to ward off, but for the most part it was a good looking sword which looked freshly sharped. The handle of the sword was red and had a few indents from how tight he squeezed it. He closed his eyes and then took a deep breath. He kept his eyes closed as the duel began. Kevlyn had decided that he would let his opponent make the first move since he is the one who challenged him in the first place. Kevlyn kept his eyes shut as he could feel the movements of the dark elf by feeling the vibrations of them in the ground. Even though he could not see his opponent charging for him, the vibrations told him otherwise. The vibrations in the ground told him that his opponent was charing for him. This is when Kevlyn finally opened his eyes and saw in his operating eye that he was indeed leaping for him. Kevlyn saw the dagger's blade in the corner of his eye going straight for him. He swiftly used his long sword to block the attack of the dark elf. The dagger of his opponent and the blade of his own sword clashed with each other. |

The dark elf smiled as the clang of steel on steel rang through his ears. It was like music to Tazdril Athlano, who planned to defeat Kevlyn at all costs. He would do what he could. Being a rogue, he had no need for honor, no need for fairplay. He would kill his prey, and he would use whatever sleazy techniques necessary. He had to admit, he was surprised by the surface elf's ability to predict the drow's attack, but not that impressed. All it ruled out for Tazdril Athlano was kicking dirt into the elf prince's one good eye. He was also amused by the elf's ability to use a blade. Not over surprised, as wielding a sword is a skill that a fugitive on the run must eventually pick up, but the dark elf was certainly amused. Perhaps slaying his target wouldn't prove so easy, but it would certainly be enjoyable. Tazdril stared deep into his opponent's eyes as their blades were interlocked, contemplating a move, but trying to time it just right, in order to throw off his opponent. The dark elf would use something to try and throw off his surface elf foe. He began to twitch as though he was going to pull his blade away, but instead, he pushed hard with his right shoulder, thrusting his dagger-arm forwards hard, and aimed an open palm at the elf's solar plexus. |

Kevlyn let out a smirked to the sound of the clashing swords. He wanted to overpower this dark elf no matter what he had to do. This does not mean that the elven prince had planned to kill the elf, he just wanted to win the fight. For some reason losing at something like this bothered the prince. Even though the prince was the type of person who was thankful for what he had and fought for what he believed in, he felt that defeating this elf would prove to himself that his power has grown throughout his travels. Even though Kevlyn had depended on the ability to read his opponents attacks in the past, he felt that this certain fight would need more than just reading and blocking the attacks. He felt like he had to come up with some sort of plan. A plan that would give him enough time to strike at the dark elf. The elf also smiled at how much travelling, running and fending off his hunters had taught him in the art of fighting with a blade. As Kevlyn and the dark elf glared at each other through the connection of their blades, Kevlyn tried really hard to read the elf's face. He wanted to see any kind of sign that would either tell him what his next move would be, or give him a hint on what he could do to by himself some time. Kevlyn was surprised for a moment... the drow began to pull away from the blades, but then suddenly, the drow used force and pushed on his blade causing Kevlyn's feet to drag in the ground slipping backwards. Then the dark elf striked at what Kevlyn thought was going to be his chest, but the drow ended up making a cut in the elven prince's stomach. "Ahh!..." Kevlyn managed to get out weakly. Kevlyn recoiled back and ended up backing up into a wall. Kevlyn grew frustrated. He took his blade with two hands facing forward and then lunged at his foe. |
