| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Duo had been kind enough, Kona had determined, to show him what a waterfall was for they were described as did not match the description of anything on the island. In reality they there were waterfalls on the island, but on a much lesser scale. The Memphian Falls were titans in comparison and would surely be of interest to Kona. Kona watched Duo walk off until he was out of view before turning to marvel at the waterfall. He took note of a separation between two might cascades of water and began to plot a route up it. The rocks were slippery and there would be the challenge in ensuring he stayed on, and then there was also the occasional shift in the waterfall’s spray that would occasionally cover the rocks in raging water. If worse came to worse though he could always launch himself towards the deepest part of the water and pray for the best. He wanted to see what it was like from the top of the waterfall and so with a good deal of effort at the beginning he began to climb the rocky surface. It was dangerous to be sure, but so was climbing any number of things back on his native island. Danger wasn’t something that brought Kona to fear very easily and a challenge was also still a challenge to him; it was something he would never willingly back off from, even if it might be too much for him to handle. Without fear he continued his climb up the slippery rock-face. The spear across his back didn’t hinder him too much for he was both quite used to its presence and also because he had a good deal of maneuvering room, unlike in the canopies of the jungle. Kona noticed a shift growing in the waterfall and braced for the incoming cascade. Perfectly still he waited like a predator watching its prey, but this time it was he that was prey to the waterfall. The water hit harder than he was ready for though and it loosened his grip to the rocks. One hand slipped, then a foot, then both feet, and he found himself hanging by but a single hand. Thankfully the water had receded and he managed to find his footholds again as he continued climbing once more. It was with much panting and a gash along his arm, from when he had smacked into a sharper rock during another cascade, which he found himself at the top of the waterfall. Kona rolled away from the side of the cliff and came to rest on his back. The climb had been difficult to be sure, but it wasn’t the hardest thing he had ever done. There was a cliff that bordered the sea to which all young men would have to climb along side as their initiation to manhood. It was not uncommon to see death amongst the generation set forth to this challenge. Kona had nearly failed himself, but with quick reflexes he had managed to grab hold of a lower rock mere moments before he would have splashed into the churning sea below. With a sigh he let himself drift off into a light sleep and began to slowly dry off in the sun. He’d take the time to admire the view when he awoke, for he was far too tired to really appreciate it and the blood slowly seeping from his gash didn’t help. |

A single black crow balanced on a branch. The crow seemed a little blacker than normal crows, as though instead of black all the color was missing from them. The crow preened her feathers, sharp beak pulling at each black feather carefully. A second crow landed on the branch as well and let out a loud caw. The first crow turned her head to look. A man it seemed was trying to climb the slippery rocks that led up to the top of the falls. They tilted their heads to the side curious of the goings on. They watched him clamber up the side and almost fall. Suddenly instead of a crow on the branch a woman sat. The branch creaked and swayed, the second crow let out a caw and lifted off the branch just before it snapped and fell to the ground. The crow flew down and landed on the woman letting out a few raucous caws, before she too turned into a woman and rolled over onto the ground laughing. The one who had fallen just smiled. “You fell.” She burst into another round of laughter before the one who had fallen threw a handful of grass at her. Which started a war between the two. Handfuls of grass were thrown back and forth until it covered their clothes and was tangled in their hair. The two laughed all the more before embracing in a hug and then looking back up at the waterfall. The man had gone over the top now. The two looked at each other. They looked the exact same with long black hair, purple eyes with red flecks, both were lean and lithe as though they spend a lot of time being active. Today both wore their hair down and their clothing was black blouses and black deerskin trousers. “I wonder if,” “He’s okay?” She nodded and in a flurry of feathers both were crows and winging their way up to the top of the waterfall. There they found the boy had passed out. His wound was bleeding but it didn’t seem deep. They turned into girls again and squatted down next to him. “Let’s poke him” “Okay!” They both giggled and started to poke him, one on each side as they propped at his ribs. |

It had been a pleasant rest for as long as it lasted, a dream of being back on the island with his people. That wasn’t going to happen any time soon though, and there was so much he wanted to see in this vast land as well. It would take him some time before he had truly sated his curiosity. Something began to pull him back from the world of dreams and he mumbled a soft groan of annoyance before he snapped back to reality. Something was touching him repeatedly, and on both sides. It just so happened that where they were poking was enough to make him jump, which he did. It was almost instantaneous, and happened in the blink of an eye. The islander had leapt to his feet and brought his spear to bear between him and the possible threat. His muscles were tense, and there was a steady rise and fall of his chest as he was ready to strike. It took a few seconds for him to settle down out of the battle-ready high and notice the two girls that would surely be staring at him in confusion, fear, or amusement. Kona lowered his spear slightly so that it was no longer threatening, but still there should he need to use it quickly. At first he had spoken his inquiry in his native tongue which was fairly similar to elven. Then he caught himself and spoke again in his accent heavy common, “Uh… who are you?” Kona then began to look for the differences between them and then came realized that there actually was none. He blinked a few times to be sure his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him and unknowingly voiced another question, “…Why do you look the same?” for he had never seen twins in his life. It was really quite unnerving. |

He jumped up suddenly and pointed his spear at them. They shared a look and then burst out laughing, rolling back and holding their stomachs. One of them wiped at her eyes and the other slowly started to get up to her knees again. She touched her twin and the other got up as well. They both sat on their knees looking up at the wild man. “I’m Melisande” “And I’m Khali.” “And we’re twins.” They both said, putting their heads together and beaming at him. They finally stood and started to look at him, tilting their heads to the side, much like the birds they had just been. The two moved in front of the man before they both finally plopped back down onto the ground. “He’s never seen twins.” “I thought everyone knew what twins were.” “Only wild men don’t” They both giggled and then addressed him directly instead of talking to one another. “You look kind of funny.” “yeah, kind of funny.” “Where are you from?” “Somewhere wild?” “I bet it’s somewhere wild!” “Me too!” They both jumped up and leaned close to Kona. Melisande poked at him again while Khali reached out to touch his hair. They both moved around him and poked him again. They still wore huge smiles on their faces and finally they stood in front of him again. The two held hands and stood in front of Kona. “Do you like games?” “We do.” “We love playing games!” “You should play one with us,” They both nodded. It seemed that the two never let anyone get a word in but neither seemed to care that much, or even notice. It was like they lived in their own little world. They seemed to have abandoned their quest for a game because Khali reached out and grabbed Kona’s spear. She looked it over. “Oooo,” “Nice spear,” “Ever killed anyone?” They looked at him wide-eyed and waited for his response. |

Kona had given them a confused look as they began laughing hysterically at him. It served to confuse him and leave him wondering how he had been funny at all. The islander didn’t have time to think though as they began speaking in such a manner that made them almost seem like they were the same being. “…Twins?” he mused over the word, it was something Duo had neglected to teach him. Even as they began to discuss why he wouldn’t know what twins were he was still thinking about it. Two people who were identical were twins? Kona had caught up by the time they began to question him rather than converse with each other. The questions he knew how to answer well enough, it was something he had been drilled on. Where he came from, what he was, and on and on; it had been pretty boring at the time too. “Uh, wild… I’m from an island out at sea, and its… primitive?” He hoped he had gotten that part right, such a complicated word and he still didn’t exactly understand it. All he knew is that he was from a ‘primitive’ island with ‘primitive’ people that that he had been ‘educated’ by someone who was not ‘primitive’. Kona blinked as the bounded closer and started to mess with him yet again. He didn’t really care so much this time as he knew they were harmless enough. Every now and again though, a poke would make him jump slightly or otherwise squirm. “Games? I like-,” was his attempt to respond to their next question but they were already past him. He tried to agree with them, “I gue-,” but failed. Then they had to take his spear… his spear! Kona looked at them with a good deal of shock as they looked over his beloved weapon; a weapon that had slain many a wild beast in the jungles, and an equal number of foolish explorers who had tried to settle down on the island. At least they had stopped talking for a moment, “Yes, I have.” He sighed and shook his head, but looked up with a grin, “…and can I have that back before I add you to the things I’ve killed too?” It was an obvious joke that couldn’t have been taken otherwise thanks to the tone he had set, although it was somewhat obscured by his accent. |
