Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The Next Task for Icheb; Private Nireza, Kallix

Kaess walked with his companions as the entered the Crystal Caves. He had folded his wings to create a kind of umbrela to get them through the water fall. They still got wet, but he shielded them from getting drenched. He was holding the can they needed to put the fish in. He looked at the interesting crystal formations and started down the first path he could see. "Well lets get searching for that fish."

Think of their task he started to think through their meeting with the druid. Kaess had been a little shocked by how random the druid Icheb had behaved. The druid had seemed a little unbalanced, but he was said to know about things so he trusted the druid for now. He also wondered about what the importance of the fish was. He couldn't figure that out at all and the comment about the cauldron had seemed odd to him. Surely they wouldn't be killing these rare plants and animals for some potion, that just didn't seem right for something that was supposed bring life and light. Lost in his doubts about the purpose of this mission he walked into a stalactite. He started rubing his forhead emaressed by his acident walking into something like that in the caves. 'Well that is one disadvantage of being tall.' he thought to himself. He then focused back on his task deffering to the others when they had to make a turn trusting their sense of direction over his own horrible one.

Nireza had just arrived at the Crystal Caves with Kaess and Kallix. The trip there from the Norwood forest, where they had returned the flower to Icheb, had been relatively uneventful, which to her was a good thing after the battle for the magical flower. Now they had been sent to look for, of all things, a fish. Kaess had a can that the druid had instructed them to put the fish in. Now it was a matter of finding and getting a hold of the strange, crystalline fish. Hopefully we can get the fish and get back to Icheb before the wrong people figure out what's going on. Right now, the last thing I want to is fight more bandits. Nireza stepped into the cave underneath Kaess' wings. She didn't mind getting wet and sometimes actually enjoyed it, but she recognized the kind act and realized that Kallix most likely wouldn't like getting wet. After getting through the waterfall, she said, "Thank you, Kaess." and smiled at him. It took her a few moments for her eyes to adjust to the darkness. After that, she said, "Let's get going, then."

Kali was still bothered by Icheb. He had been uncharacteristically rude for a druid. She felt he was acting more like a typical bookworm mage. She usually had a distaste for those ancient men - so busy translating arcane texts that they did not have time for simple socialization. It reminded her of her uncle. He was lovable to a very fine point, though she could never expect love in return. If he viewed her as anything, it was as a curiosity. Just one more puzzle to solve. One more achievement to tuck into his belt when he figured it out so that he could brag. It seemed silly to her: he had not had any new company to brag to in many years.

She took the offer of Kaess' wing and avoided most of the water. The last thing she wanted in these caves was a chill. The cavern was filled with extremely cool air, and she knew any water on her would make matters worse. Of course, she found out far too soon that the ceiling itself was dripping. She sighed and shook her head silently. A large, cold drop fell directly on the top of her head. She flinched.

"Well, we found this place without too much trouble. Let us hope that the remainder of our journey remains this uneventful. Icheb did not mention anything about this fish being a rarity in these caves," Kali mentioned. "Of course, the High Druid seems to be a champion of understatement."

Kaess continued moving through the caves and nothing seemed to go wrong at first. He helped light any dark parts with a torch he lit with his spark spell and it seemed like now all they had to do was find the fish, however about ten minutes into the cave he sensed something odd. When he turned around he looked confused as he was sure that the path back looked different now. Now stopped he turned to his companions. "Um does the path behind us look different to you. Please say no otherwise I think we just steped into a trap." A concerned look on his face and a bit of annoyance.

Each time he or his companions looked in a different direction the cave seemed slightly different. The only thing that remained constant was that there was one way forward. After pausing they could here a low cuckling sound, ecoing down the path towards them. It didn't sound human, more like a cross between a monkey and a hyena. "Well great we would have to run into something freaky and or creepy before finding the fish wouldn't we and here I thought it would be nice to visit these caves."

Nireza's eyes adjusted to the darkness. She started walking through the cave, looking around, looking for placed where a strange, crystalline fish might be. The cave wasn't cold enough for her to really be annoyed, and she didn't have much of a problem with being wet. She found a small pool which was large enough to contain a few fish. Before she had a good look into the pool, she looked back at where they had come, noticing that it looked a bit different. That's odd. I don't think I'm imagining it either. She looked back at the pool and, to be sure, back toward the cave entrance again. Again, it had changed. Before she could say anything, Kaess made a comment about the same thing. She decided that there was definitely something going on. She replied, "I was about to mention the same thing myself. There is definitely something odd going on here." She paused and listened for a few seconds. "Something's following us. We should have our weapons ready." She pulled out her wand, ready to fight.

Kallix sighed as her companions began to show signs of distress. It was made final when Nireza drew her wand to prepare for battle. She remembered the last time she saw that wand. It was a time marred with death. Kallix had hoped to have a peaceful journey, but that did not appear to be in the cards. She felt the weight of her dagger against her hip but chose not to reach for the handle. Her breath was long and drawn out as she made her decision. She knelt down on the damp floor and opened the tattered satchel she had brought with her. Kali had recieved the parcel when she returned to the village, though Nireza and Kaess were away when her messenger arrived. It came with a quaint note from her father -

My dearest daughter,

The reports of your little brush with danger havemade me worry like no father should. While I have chosen not to revoke my permission for you to spend time away from your duties at home, I cannot help but take action to ensure your protection. Inkeeping with my promise, Falcheer will not interfere with you except under the most dire of circumstances. Instead, I have sent someone a little more discreet. She'll be glad to see you. I am sure you remember that it is the end of her hibernation, so please try not to disturb her unless you must.

Dad

Kali had no choice. She was starting to see what her companions were seeing, and the strange calls were especially unnerving now that everyone was expressing concern. Holding in what fear she did feel, she cood softly to a tiny creature that fit strangely well in Kali's palms.

"Hey sweetie," she whispered, "Sorry to wake you, but I think we may need your help."

The balled up creature stretched briefly and locked eyes with Kali. It made a tiny squeak before flapping its wings and starting to hover over Kali's hands. It was a fly dragon, and it seemed more than pleased to see Kali. It began to buzz around her head with happy squeaks. The playing stopped quickly when the strange call echoed through the caves once more and the fly dragon realized why she was awakened.

Kaess motioned for his companions to stand down a bit on their prerations for battle. "Wait don't be hasty it might be just an animal, caves do strange things to sound after all. Also a pointed weapon always makes it difficult to talk things out." A slight pause "Plus I think I see it and I don't think it is a thing we can fight in the normal way." At the edge of his vision which was stronger than most races due to dragon heratige he saw a shape conceled in the crystals of the cave. As it came closer it looked like a strange small blue monkey.

It climed along the celling and was partial hiding behinde a particlarly large crystal only it's head visible like some strange cheshire cat. It looked at them curiously almost looking like it was seeing strait through their bodies. It's blank stare never blinking wached them for a few seconds. Kaess shifted uncofortably under the stare, but it didn't look like it was going to attack. Suddenly it spoke after a burst of the laughter they had heard before.

"Foolish lost people want a way, yes, well I know and so do I and I all three of us in here know. Will you play our game little people? Or will you wander around and around? We will follow watching oh yes we are good at that. Come play our little game and we shall have fun!" The monkey seemed to have a creepy smile, but he also moved faster than the eye could see jumping to another crystal behinde them before they could blink. Just a blur of motion. "That's right can't catch me so play, PLAY, PLAY little friends."

Kaess paused waching the creature. He had met many things, but this was one of the stranger. He paused think about what the creature said, he didn't even come close to trusting it, but then he still couldn't see a way out. "Well what do you to think, I don't see another option besides exploring this cave, so do we trust this monkey." More laughter from the monkey while they discused what they would do the little creature seemed to delight in their indicision.

Nireza noticed that the creature that had been following them was not a demon or another obviously extraplanar creature, but some kind of monkey. She also noticed that this monkey was quite fast. Nireza was exceptionally fast herself, but even with her quick eyes, she could barely follow the monkey's movements. She also didn't want to be fighting something like this in the dark cave. She then noticed that the monkey was not normal looking, but a strange blue color. Just what sort of creature is this thing?, she wondered. For the time being, she had no way of knowing just what the monkey was. She said, "How about we go along with this thing's game for now, but be prepared for a trap." She had seen too many traps to really trust this creature. She put her wand away but knew that she could have it or her newly acquired sword in her hand in less than a second.

OOC: After Kali's next post, we will be at three posts per character. Keep it up!

I don't like him.

The familiar voice of Chitsi filled Kali's mind as the fly dragon complained about the arrival of the monkey. Kali replied with a mental laugh as the fly dragon continued to stay close to her master. Chitsi had been with Kali's family since she was a hatchling. One of her father's expeditions to the Dragonspine was rewarded with a pair of eggs, one of which hatched into Chitsi. Her twin, Hefesto, was likely worried sick about his sister back at home. The fly dragons, not native to the Dragonspine as far as Kali's father could find, were apparently moved a long distance before they hatched. Still, the tiny dragons were the perfect pair for hide and seek games when Kali was growing up, and they bonded quickly.

"Yes, we will play," Kali added to make it unanimous. "But like Nireza has said, I do not think that trusting this creature is a wise idea."

Kallix tried to take in as much detail as she could of the blue monkey that was offering them a game. It was a strange creature, not one that she had even heard about. She would have to report this to her uncle for his catalogues.

Kali looked back at the monkey and directed a question at it, "Though, if we are going to play, then maybe we should meet all of the players. You said that "we" would be watching. Is there someone else hiding in those shadows?"

She doubted it, but it was hard to tell with all of the racket that just one of the creatures was making. Maybe she would get lucky and distract it, if nothing else.

"Though, if we are going to play, then maybe we should meet all of the players. You said that "we" would be watching. Is there someone else hiding in those shadows?"

The monkey laughed completely unphased "All players here yes. You see me and I am I, there is no more just us three I, I and I all of which you can see, nothing more. We shall have fun yes first you must answer my riddle then I shall pass it on to I to continue the game. Simple yes. Answer wrong and we have fun, but I be nice first time all may answer once. Only once though and first thing said is answer, now to riddle

This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.

Now answer for we and you may have fun."

More cackeling as the monkey smiled from his perch on the celling waiting for an answer.

Kaess pondered the answer for a while, but he couldn't make sense of it at first there were many things, but nothing that strong. He had never done many riddles either so he hopped that one of the others would be better at it. Still he continued to think, tapping his foot slightly as he thought. He also had a look on his face of trying to think hard. The most frustrating thing was that he almost opened to ask something several times, but he had managed to hold back realizing that it would have counted as his answer.

The monkey was also watching him and it made him uncomfortable. That monkey had some power and he wasn't sure he wanted to know what it was. He especially avoided the creatures eyes that seemed to pierce through him. As he pondered more he waited to see what the others would answer. Hopefully one would be right and he wouldn't have to think about it anymore.

Nireza listened to the riddle carefully. She realized that this was no easy riddle. She thought it over. What could possibly be so powerful? It seems rather cruel as well, to be doing these things. Could it be some sort of monster? A dragon? She looked at Kaess. He's pretty powerful, but I haven't seen him bite steel, and tearing down mountains is well nigh impossible, even for a dragon. Beats high mountain down. What can possibly do that? The winds and rain perhaps? But they don't devour trees and flowers, they actually help them most of the time. And even the rain would take quite a while to bring down a mountain or grind stones. Wait a minute! All of these things occur over time. That's got to be it! She knew that she had only one guess, so she thought about it for another minute to see if she could think of anything else that would be a better answer, but came up with nothing. She knew that the first thing she said would be considered to be her answer, effectively preventing the group from discussing the issue. This is when telepathic abilities would come in handy.

She decided to make her guess. She said, showing more confidence in her answer than she actually felt, "Time! That's what does all these things." She waited for either an answer from the monkey or a guess from Kallix or Kaess. She was aware of the possibility that the monkey might wait for all three guesses even if one of the first two was correct.

Kallix pondered the riddle briefly while the monkey looked on. Kaess seemed disturbed Nireza was deep in thought.

The monkey is foolish.

Chitsi complained in Kali's mind, which might have disturbed her if she had not figured out the riddle.

I know Chi. We all know.

But the riddle is flawed.

I am well aware of that, Chi.

Nireza announced her answer: time. Her thoughts agreed with Kali's sentiments exactly. Time ruled over the world, at least in a sense. She was happy that Nireza was able to figure out the riddle. She was sure Kaess was quite close as well. Kali was only more impressed by her newfound friends as time went on. They had proven themselves in combat, and now they were tackling the test of intellect. This was much more exhillerating than staying at home.

Time does not devour all! Chitsi complained telepathically. Time cannot scratch the immortal, nor does it have power over those who choose to control it!

Unless you have a better answer, I do not think it is wise to argue. Kali shot a thought back to the fly dragon.

Love.

Kali considered the simple word that carried such a huge burden. She sighed. Her friend was right. True love could not be mastered by any being, but it had power over all of them. Kingdoms have fallen and mountains carved away in the name of love. It was eternal, unaffected by time, and no obstacle was insurmountable in its name. She worried about her own critique of the riddle that was mirrored by her long-time friend. She would voice her thoughts. If she was wrong, she hoped Nireza's answer would save them some trouble.

"Love," Kali stated bluntly. "And I would love to hear you deny it."

Kaess pondered the two answer he heard, but agreed with Nireza more. He couldn't see how love could do consume things like mountains and the monkey was waiting for all their answers. "Time is my answer as well."

The monkey narrowed it's eyes looking at each and cackled "Yes two little friends won the first round yes yes. Dragons are good at many things good thing you chose as you did. Time is answer, it consumes all. Nothing escapes it, not even imortal gods lasted the test of time. Imortals are killed, so in the end time gets them all. We too will be caught at some point." His eyes looked as if he had read their thoughts. "Love another good answer, but not the true one too bad too bad such cleaver little person, now we have fun and on to the next round." His eyes glowed blue as he peered into Kallix's eyes. It felt like a slimly intruder trying to get into her head and that of her small dragon. The monkey the moved scrabling up to her ear wispering dark words of whatever bothered her the most deep inside. Unbelievably fast of toung most of the words shouldn't have been understood at the speed they were said, but they were. Ugly secrets or twisted truths to bring out the more ugly side of a person, show them their flaws and faults. As soon as she reacted the monkey leaped off back to his pearch.

"Good now it is I's turn." The voice was a bit deaper and sounded a little less crazy and a bit more depraved the eyes followed suit, but retained the creepy loook through you effect. "Here are my rules only one answer from that one." Points at Kallix. "One word of advice, but must not say the answer from the other two. Now for my riddle win and be rewarded and we have more fun if you lose." Cackles loudly and says,

"Causing wounds, and cleansing. History dies from its rinsing. Life or scars is its blessing. What am I?"

Kaess was annoyed he knew the answer to this one, but what word could he use. Only one hint, as a word. He couldn't think of anything for several minutes and then he said the one word he could think of. "Burn" That was his one hint hopefully it would be enough.

Nireza listened to the monkey's response. So I did have the right answer. The monkey was just waiting for all three of us to answer. Nireza noticed the monkey whispering something to Kallix and from her reaction knew that it was nothing good. It seems to me like she was just subject to some form of mental torture. We cannot allow this to keep going, but I don't really see a way out of this at the moment. Nireza then listened to the next riddle. She noticed that this monkey seemed to be a three-way split personality.

She then turned her thoughts to figuring out the current riddle. Whatever the answer to this riddle is, it seems rather destructive, yet in some ways a blessing. A flood? No, I really don't see that cleansing much, even if it is water. Water itself? Definitely can be a blessing, but causing scars? Possibly...but it doesn't seem quite the right thing for this riddle. 'History dies from its cleansing.' Now what does that? A flood, possibly, but water doesn't seem to quite be correct. Now what else is better with these things? Wind? No, I don't recall it actually causing life, although to me it seems like it could, but that's because I'm part wind. Fire, possibly? That's it! Cleansing fires, destructive fires, or small, life-saving campfires. Why didn't I think of that quicker? It seems Kaess beat me to this one. His hint, 'burn' is right on track. Now what can I say to help Kallix out here? I don't want to say the wrong thing and leave her confused. The monkeys didn't make any rules against gestures in my hint, but I'm limited to a single word, and I can't say the answer. Nireza thought about this for a few minutes and said, "Torch."

She waited for Kallix to come up with her answer. While she did that, she considered the situation. She wondered how many riddles this monkey-thing was going to come up with. She also wondered if they were going to have to ask the monkey any riddles. I've heard some riddles over the years, and I've never been bad at figuring them out. But the monkey just might know them, too.

Want me to get Falcheer? Chi asked seriously.

No, I don't need Falcheer destroying this cave and our chances at finding the fish with it.

Then take your hand off of that dagger before you get yourself in more trouble.

Through the annoying racket that the blue monkey spewed into her ear, she realized that she had found the handle of her weapon. The creature was so close now that she was sure she could slit its throat. Animal or not, he was becoming a nuisance. It spoke of wretched death and how she was the cause. She looked uncomfortable while she fought to refrain from showing the beast how true that really was. Her task in this world was not peaceful or serene. Then, he left, content that he had somehow damaged her. If it continued in the same manner, she would order Falcheer to sift through the rubble of these fallen stones until its corpse was found, crushed and lifeless. She hated being put in a bad mood.

"Fire," Kallix stated bluntly. She was in no mood to play anymore. Her thoughts danced with darker thoughts. Chi seemed used to the notions that floated through her head.

This stupid thing really thinks that a true immortal can die? Also, even if a true immortal could be killed, does that not mean that death claimed them and not time? I just hate lesser animals sometimes. They are so ignorant. Chi complained, still stuck on the last riddle.
