Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

She was confused by her feeling and motives now. Nothing made sense and she needed some time, some time to figure things out on her own and ease her nerves. Instinctively she retreated to Belfire. She adored the place, the shadows always a comfort and the worries of angels and demons fell away to make room for much more simple things. For in Blefire, time had no meaning.

The Second in Command of the Divschatten looked nothing like the part as she slipped from the shadows of a alleyway just outside the Dancer's Nest. Not the alley, just it's shadows. She was dressed in a single long dress of sky blue silk and black lace. It wrapped about the back of her neck, across her chest, then across her lower back and back to the front across her stomach before blooming out in a full circle of a skirt that went nearly to the ground. Both her arms, her back across her shoulder blades, and a small sideways diamond between her chest and stomach was left bare, revealing evenly tan skin and on her back a pair of tattoos. A pair of wings was etched like a shadow on her skin on each shoulder blade and a black flame tattoo followed the length of her spine. Her hair was done up in many braids and left loose from there to fall nearly to her mid-back.

The door to the Dancer's Nest swung open at her touch and she slipped inside. Music and merriment filled her senses and she felt the tension melt away as she slipped past the crowd and deeper into the building. She was making her way to the dance floor steadily before letting her gaze shift thought those here. Anyone of interest? She needed something to catch her attention or coming here would be of no use.

He'd heard rumors of this place called the Dancer's Nest around town, mostly from people that he shadowed in seedy taverns before feeding upon them. For a long time now, he'd been finding regular taverns far too crowded and full of idiots for him to truly enjoy, and he always felt the same hunger creeping through him when their stupidity became too much to ignore.

But here, the people were enjoyable. They danced, played music, but it wasn't annoying. And unlike so many taverns, they kept the lights low. His vampiric skin didn't agree well with the bright light of day, so he'd been restricting himself to Balefire lately; even then, taverns were slowly becoming too much for him to stay in without fully covering his skin and drawing his hood up. Hopefully, as he became stronger, he'd regain some tolerance for light.

At the moment, he was wearing simple clothing that left room for comfort and mobility. It consisted of a loose dark shirt and pants, and he'd left his shoes at a room by the entrance so he could dance more easily, in the offchance that he felt like it. He'd left his features unaltered for once, letting his long, auburn hair stick out amongst all the black that covered the room. Dark purple eyes drifted through the crowds, content to simply observe for now.

He'd eagerly made his way to the dance floor, wanting nothing more than to watch the people sway and move to the beats that drifted from the band. It was odd; ordinarily, he couldn't stand seeing human beings enjoying themselves, let alone dancing. Perhaps the fact that most of these people were assassins and creatures of the night like himself gave them some likability...

Suddenly wishing to join them, but not wanting to be alone- such is human nature- he began to look around for someone to dance with. He caught sight of blue silk and dark lace, and hair that reminded him of wine- something he liked quite a lot. This was who he resolved to dance with, making his way towards her with a grin. Once within earshot, he extended a hand and asked, "Feel like dancing?"

Her last time here she had danced with a man who called himself Manic and while they had danced they had spoken of Gods and of the God of Light, Gregory Faust. Something had changed all of that. Gregory seemed to have vanished when so many of the other gods had. Rothardan had told her himself that the Goddess of Nature was dead. The Goddess of Blades was alive but no one had seen her. Ironically, the Goddess of Fire was gone but her Avatar was very much alive and still doing her own thing in Istan. AD had saw the woman herself and she looked like nothing had really happened. It was the God of Darkness she was worried about though. Seele was a good friend of her's. He had taught her how to summon things properly and now she could summon all sorts of things. She blinked and shook her head slightly, her braided hair tumbling about her shoulders as she did so. She shouldn't dwell on that sort of stuff, not right now.

As her gaze traveled around, she didn't see any faces she recognized. Too many were dark and somber or distracted. She didn't need distracted people, she needed her own distraction. Before she could make up her mind as to stay or try to find another place to lift her spirits, a stranger approached. His voice carried over the music just enough to be easily heard and she turned to see a hand extended towards her. The color of his hair was in contrast with the room, but the rest of him seemed to fit. It reminded her of the time she had decided to die her hair a brighter red, though the die had washed out easily. A smile crossed her face as she accepted the offered hand and replied with, "Most definitely." She gave up the lead to him when she took his hand.

He grinned both inwardly and outwardly, an odd thing for him to do. Most of the time, his smiles were fake, plastered on only as a false sign of kindness. He immediately took the lead when it was offered, beginning by drawing AD in closer. No way a person could dance at arm's length away, now was there?

"Hope you know how to waltz," he said with a quick smirk. He lifted his right arm, so that her left rested on top of it; he placed his free left arm around her waist. Waiting for the right downbeats, he finally took a step with his left foot forward, beginning a highly traditional dance. Why he had yelled so much when Cord forced him to learn it was a mystery now; it really wasn't that bad.

"So who're you?" he asked as they twirled in time around the dance floor, taking care to avoid bashing into others. It wasn't often that he got a chance to converse with someone in a way that wasn't threatening, or going to turn into a brawl. "I guess I'll start. Call me Duo," he said, not having reason to use an alias at the moment. Besides, Tristan had been shutting up easily as of late.

Aether Draka hadn't been keeping up with the dances she knew from before and none of the music was what she had grown up knowing, but if there was one thing she did know, that was how to follow a lead. So she let the beat time her step and moved when he did. She wasn't sure why, but she liked him. He reminded her of her friend Eliel's cat and a bit like her own much smaller familiar, graceful but deadly underneath. He fit in well here though. The people around them became a blur to here senses as she focused on him so she wouldn't step on his toes.

"Duo. A rather interesting name. I'm Aether Draka but you may call me AD." More then a few knew her as a Shadowdancer here and in the right circles she was also known as the Second in Command of the Divshatten. It had never been nor would it be something she boasted about though, so weather or not he had heard of her would depend entirely on who he knew and if they knew of the guild itself. Weather AD cared if he knew who she was would depend on his reaction. With there now being guilds out there against the demonic guild, one could never be too careful. Here though, she didn't even let the thought cause any tension in her. Here she was among kindred who would see her as a shadowdancer first and anything else second.

((OOC: Bah, there's no such thing as 'too short' in my book.))

Seems like she's following easily enough, he thought, swaying in time with the beat. He was more than used to being the leader, the aggressor; after all, he did enjoy attacking random people for no damn good reason. Right now, though, he was fine with how things were turning out. This was where he could be content; right now, he was nobody, another face in the crowd. He could forget himself for a while and focus solely on the moment, not on what was in the past or still to come. For now, he would let himself worry only about this woman that he found himself dancing with.

And for a while, at least, he could maintain a semblance of sanity.

He couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at her name, though. "Likewise," he said, in response to her comment about his name being 'interesting.' True, he knew it was an odd name, but it served its purpose well enough. After all, what's in a name? Not to mention how he wasn't exactly in a hurry to associate with the others in his family. Though, knowing his father, that was likely a shared sentiment.

He'd never heard of this woman before, but it wasn't like that mattered. "So what brings you here tonight?" he asked, simply trying to make conversation. It wasn't exactly something he was good at, but he could use the practice anyway.

Aether Draka smiled up at Duo as she danced. "What doesn't?" She replied. "There is music, shadow, dancing, and plenty to drink." She gave a small giggle at her joke, putting shadow and dancing together like that when she was a Shadowdancer in her own environment with no doubt many other Shadowdancers within reach, let alone in the same room. The song came to a close then and she let her hands fall to her sides. Tipping her head to the side she asked, "Speaking of drinks, any type you like?"

She made her way easily through the people on her way to the bar, not looking back to see if Duo was following her or not. When she got to the bar she rested her elbows on it with her arms crossed in front of her. The barkeep looked up and asked, "What will ya have miss?"

"What ever you want to give me." AD replied with a grin. Tonight was going to be fun and a drink or two wouldn't hurt. Should Duo follow her the barkeep would ask the same question, replacing the miss with a sir as to not cause a fight without needing to.

What exactly was making her giggle went completely over his head, although he assumed that she was one of those people that could bend the darkness to their will. He'd met one like her before, in the Istanian Desert. It had been an annoying fight, but luckily, he wasn't a particularly adept Shadowdancer. Still, even in the dim light, her smile was well-received. As the song ended, he removed his own hands from her frame, crossing them across his chest. Drinks? Well, he didn't exactly have to drink much of anything anymore, considering the vampirism... But alcohol could be enjoyable, and he was growing tired of tasting nothing but blood all the time.

He slipped after her through the throngs of people, uncaring as to who he had to elbow or lightly push to get through. Arriving at the bar, he took up the same position as AD, leaning over the counter to inspect all the different types of bottles filled with various liquors. He looked up as the barkeep addressed him, licking his fangs indiscreetly as he said, "Bloody Mary," with a smirk. "Or Dinah, or Pauline, or Claire, I don't care about the name. Just make it red," he added, already tired of his own morbid joke. He doubted the barkeeper would find the display odd or disturbing; working in Balefire, it probably wasn't even his first time hearing the admittedly terrible joke.

"Tell me, AD," he began slowly, turning while still leaning upon the bar. His eyes roamed freely up and down her figure before finally settling on her own eyes, dark violet meeting greenish-blue. "What exactly are you?" He couldn't identify her races by smell alone, despite his best efforts. There seemed to be a mixed menagerie of conflicting races to her, something that intrigued him quite a bit. In fact, he thought he even picked up a little demon, but his sense of smell had a habit of disappointing him. Plus, with so many people in the room, he had to be only one of at least a few other demons.

AD had little knowledge of mixed drinks and even on alcohal itself. All she knew was it made her not worry about things and that was why she was here. She tipped her head slightly to the side as he asked his question. A smile tugged at her lips. She was not about to go into a explanation of what she was. Explaining to someone that you are both of celestial and demonic decent in addition to being an elf and a human usually made them pick a side of her that they didn't like and use it as an excuse to attack her.

"If you are asking about my race, I'm a hybrid that shouldn't exist and an affront to not only the races of Imythess but to those of the furthest planes also. Lucky for me they don't know it." She winked at him as their drinks were set down. "It's a secret."

Not even knowing what it was or bothering to find out, AD downed the drink and kept her eyes closed as it burned on it's way down. Part of her mind reminded her that she would regret drinking too much and she shooed it away with the thought, 'I know, I know.'

She opened her eyes again and looked at Duo. "Should I ask you the same?"

Her smile went without comment from Duo, though he perceived the meaning behind it easily enough. Whether she was hiding something or simply unsure, he gave it no further thought nor inquiry. He could always read her mind if it came down to it, though if the rumors he'd heard about these 'Shadowdancers' were true, then that might not have been an option. Truth be told, he'd already tried peering into the psyches of a few others in the room, and occasionally had no luck with it.

The response she gave took him a bit by surprise, making him frown slightly. He didn't exactly like deep, semi-cryptic answers. Still, her wink made him go from a frown to a smirk in a moment, as he reached out to grab his drink. Just as he'd asked, it was red. "I like secrets," he replied, adding, "But I can't keep 'em," with a laugh and a somewhat wry grin.

Unlike AD, his eyes remained open as he drained the small glass, unaffected by what he knew would feel like liquid fire rolling down any normal person's throat. Vampirism had its uses after all, it would seem. He turned his head at her question, wiping his lips upon the side of his hand as he mulled over an answer. Finally, he gave a shrug of the shoulders, saying, "Human turned vampire turned demonic infused," with nonchalance.

AD pondered his response for a moment, then asked, "Why infused?" She then took a step up to him and said in an almost whisper, "I never really understood why a person would want another being's soul tied in with their own. Both always in the same place, often fighting with them in your own head... I've even seen some infused fall under control of the being they are infused with, loosing control of their own body and actions. What reason is there for you to be infused Duo?"

She rarely expressed her dislike for infused, more so in the case of the being that they were infused with for taking advantage of a person's ignorance in order to gain power in Imythess. With so many members of her guild as infused though, she had no real reason to condone it as a practice. It was just something she herself would never, ever do.

Why infused? It seemed like such an odd question to him. He'd never really thought about it before, now that the question had been raised to him. Her first comment was easy enough to answer, though, as he replied, "Isn't it obvious? What every human wants deep down, for whatever reason: power. I'm no different in the end," he said with a scowl, despising the fact that he had just attested to his own humanity.

Oddly enough, though, her next words held little bearing to him. Perhaps he had been blessed- or perhaps cursed- through one single fact that set him aside from other people with infusions: his demon was an easily-sated buffoon. "Trust me when I say that it's me controlling him, not the other way around." There also happened to be the fact that his bond was very weak with the fiend; he hardly even showed physical signs of his bond, save for the marking that dominated his back.

Of course, her final question was the hardest to answer in a way, because it linked back to the first on some level. "There's a guild of beings that are touched by demons," he started slowly, smiling a bit. "Divschatten? Perhaps you've heard of them? I wanted to enter into their ranks, and heard rumors that they were all demons in both literal and figurative senses... So I caught the attention of one, and bound myself to it," he concluded with a light shrug, wondering how AD would take the statement.

AD nodded when he explained that he was in fact the one in control of the infusion, the part about doing it because he was human made her wonder. Perhaps she should find why he thought humans to be so weak... ignorant perhaps, but very few she knew were weak. His last words caught her attention, but she didn't let it show. She decided to find out a bit more of his reasons and if he had spoken to anyone else in the guild about joining them.

"Divschatten?" She asked, the word hanging in the air for a moment as she seemed to think about it for a bit. "I think I have heard a bit about them. They seemed a bit disliked by some. Why would you want to join them? Have you ever met any?"

She tipped her head to the right, curiosity clear on her face. All her focus seemed to be just on him, the rest of the room forgotten for the moment. Emerald eyes locked on his face. She was clearly enjoying the conversation though. In her mind, he kept asking questions in return to hers. That meant that they were now playing the game of questions and it was a game she truly enjoyed. She was also enjoying the fact that he clearly had no idea who he was talking to. She would let him know soon enough, but not yet.

It was getting to become a bit of an irritant that he couldn't find a way to read her mind, no matter how hard he might've been trying to peer into her psyche. Nothing showed, of course, but he finally had to stop when it was becoming too difficult to pay attention while still trying to exert magic. After all, with no results in view, why even bother any longer? It told him at least one thing, confirming what he'd suspected for a good while: this woman was most definitely a Shadowdancer, and a powerful one at that.

He nodded as she repeated the word, wondering what exactly she was contemplating. Would she recognize it immediately? That seemed to be the case as she admitted to at least thinking she'd heard of them. Judging from the description she gave of them being disliked, she was probably thinking on the right track.

Now came the time for him to grin at her questions, taking a small bit of delight in the curiosity written across her tan features. "I wanted to join them because... Well, why does anyone join a guild? Some people want a purpose, some a sense of belonging... But me? I wanted the chance to burn things without the fear of repercussion!" He laughed for a moment, an odd sound between a childish giggle and a malign snicker, hoping she would recognize his admission for the joke that it was.

Her next question was simpler to answer, though no less fun. "I've met a rat," he began, thinking somewhat fondly back on his encounter with Vernon in the sewer. It was directly afterwards that he had first travelled to the Divschatten's guild hall in the Abyss and encountered his second member, the woman who called herself Alice. Now that was a fun day. "I've met one other," he said wistfully, violet eyes unfocusing for just an iota of time before they came back to the present to lock with AD's own emerald spheres. "How about you? Have you ever had the pleasure of meeting with the 'most vile beings in all of Imythess,' as some people call them?" he asked with an audacious little smirk, turning in his chair to face AD without having to rotate just his torso. One arm was still laying across the bar while the other supported his head on a balled fist, elbow resting upon his knee.

((OOC: this topic is before the one that she becomes the leader of the Divshatten, just to be clear! :P))

Aether Draka gave a small smile, one that shined in her eyes more then with her mouth. She seemed to ponder what he asked for a long moment before giving a small shrug and a laugh. "Oh, I've met all of them. It's my job after all. I'm the Divshatten's Second."

She then stood up and put her hand on Duo's arm that rested on his chair. She grinned then and added, "I came here to dance though, not chat about my Guild. If you want we can chat later though." With that, she started to go back towards the dance floor. The song that had been playing had come to an end and another was just starting. She didn't look back to see what Duo's reaction was. She liked the fact he had met another member, sure she knew who, and was a little annoyed with Vernon. She was going to talk to the rat later, after her meeting with Lynthaer.
