Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Skills

Skills are natural abilities relevant to combat or other important situations in which your character has developed prowess. We all have talents and things that we're better at than others, and they often help to determine who has the upper hand in any given situation. These skills can be combined in varying arrangements to create unique fighting styles.

Just because your character does not have the ‘unarmed combat' skill, does not mean they cannot throw a punch. It simply means that your character isn't very experienced at it and is not as effective as someone that does have it.

Other types of non-combat skills like crafting, artistry, and swimming do not need to be purchased for your character to be legitimately proficient with them, these are up to your own creativity to develop so feel free to take on as many of those types of skills as you desire at no cost.

Skill Levels

The level you are in a skill dictates just how much training you have with that skill. The higher the level you have in a certain skill, the better you are at using that skill.

Master is the highest you can go in a skill.

LevelNameDescription
OneNoviceKnows a little about said skill.
TwoApprenticeKnows more than a Novice about a skill and can perform level two skills better than a Novice.
ThreeAdeptHas more knowledge about a skill than level one and level two. Is much better at skill than a Novice.
FourJourneymanVery good at a skill.
FiveExpertFew can better an Expert of a skill.
SixMasterMaster level is the maximum level anyone can ever go, and means that a character with a Master level in a skill knows all there is to know on that skill.

To receive your training, post at the Sales Counter stating which skill you would like to level up.

Skills Full List

Alchemy
  • You have proficient knowledge of how plants, materials, and elements work together to create different effects, from the mundane to the magical. Includes both helpful and harmful substances.

Acrobatics
  • Dictates how well you can keep your balance, climb, jump, and tumble about (think Prince of Persia at high levels). This ability also allows you dodge better in combat as it progresses.

Athletics
  • You're faster and stronger than most people and therefore have great endurance and stamina. This allows you to lift more weight, land heavier blows, and run or swim faster.

Blade
  • You are proficient with a blade (whether it be a short dagger or a large claymore), and may use one effectively in swordplay, parrying, and weapon blocking.

Blunt Weapon
  • You are proficient with blunt weapons (from staves to clubs, or even makeshift weapons like chair legs), and you may use one effectively in swordplay, parrying, and weapon blocking.

Concentration
  • You are good at keeping your mind focused on the task at hand, even under the duress of distractions and minor adverse psionic effects. You have excellent self-control and are not easily afraid or disturbed.

Defense
  • You excel at blocking oncoming blows with shields, armor, and weapons, alongside being able to move with blows to mitigate damage. You know how to wear your armor so that it offers optimum protection. You keep a good stance and effectively use small, quick changes in stance to make yourself more difficult to target. This skill is even effective when unarmored, as you know how to position your body to help reduce the criticality of an unavoidable strike.

Diplomacy
  • Your level in Diplomacy tells how well you interact with others and how well you can convince someone to do or believe something. This aids in the arts of the silver tongue, charming, flirting, sweet-talking, lying, deception, swindling, coercion, and intimidating. Honing this skill also allows you to better detect when others are trying to use these people skills on you.

Handle Animal
  • This skill shows how well you can work with animals, such as convince a barking dog to be quiet, or drive a team of horses through harsh terrain It also determines how well you can stay on a moving animal's back and not fall off, even under stressful circumstances, such as combat or flying.

Heal
  • This dictates how much you know about healing, such as properly bandaging wounds, creating tourniquets, how to treat head injuries, and what remedies to use in the treatment of illnesses, including knowledge of medicinal plants.

Knowledge: Arcana
  • This skill shows how much you know about magic and the way it works. Also useful in identifying spells.

Marksman
  • You are good with all manner of ranged weapons. A Master Marksman can hit even the smallest of targets from great distances. Your well-honed accuracy allows you to aim thrown weapons as well.

Perform
  • Whether it be acting, dancing, or playing an instrument, perform is a must if you expect to be good at any of those things.

Polearms
  • You are proficient with all manner of polearms (such as poleaxes, staves, and spears), and may use one effectively for swordplay, parrying, and weapon blocking.

Security
  • You excel at picking locks and getting past all types of obstacles meant to contain. You are also good at setting, finding, and disarming traps. You attention to detail improves your odds of finding hidden doors or compartments and other things not immediately obvious.

Stealth
  • This skill shows that you excel at not being seen or heard. You know how to pick-pockets, sneak by trained guards, eavesdrop on a whispered conversation, or even get close enough to someone without being seen to perform a deadly backstab. Because you are so attuned to remaining hidden, you are better equipped to hear approaching enemies and actions of those that are less stealthy than you. Part of your stealth includes the ability to convincingly disguise yourself as someone else.

Track
  • You know how to track someone over a wide variety of terrain. A Master of Track can follow a fox over hard terrain, three days after it passed.

Unarmed Combat
  • Your most powerful weapons are your bare fists. You know where to plant punches and kicks and how to block oncoming attacks with your arms and legs. These skills can be incorporated into armed combat for increased prowess.
