Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Imythess Races

Humans

Humans are much like they are in real life. They come in all shapes, sizes and colors. They do vary by region, though.

The humans of Kellen village tend to be large and muscular. Their hair ranges from straw blonde to dark brown and they often wear it long and the men sport beards. They are accustomed to hard work and life out in the open plain.

In Tethyr desert, the humans are tall and dark, their skin deeply tanned from hours beneath the sun and their hair is usually dark brown to black. They are built lightly and gracefully, although they are too hard workers, having to keep their crops growing even in the dry and hot desert.

Taras has a large variety of people because it is a port city. Almost anyone from anywhere can be found there and any natives there often are a mix of nationalities and sometimes even races.

Elves

Elves are the oldest race to live on Imythess. They came here, supposedly from another realm of existance when it was destroyed and set up a grand city, long since destroyed by time and abandonment. There are several different sub-races of elves. There are Moon (Also known as Silver) elves, Sun (Also known as Gold) elves, Wood (Also known as Copper) elves, and drow (Also known as Dark) elves.

All elves (Except drow) have a close bond with nature and always respect the forests and wildlands of Imythess, sometimes giving their own lives to protect the untainted lands.

Most elves are thin and agile, usually shorter than humans by a few inches.

The average lifespan for an elf is 500 or more years.

Moon (Silver) Elves
Moon elves are normally good, like their counterparts, the sun elves. In appearance they normally have pale, almost blue-tinted skin with almost any colored hair, usually with blue tints. The most common colors are black, pale white, or silver. Normal, human, hair colors are rare. Their eyes are often different shades of blue, flecked with silver or sometimes gold. They are usually very good with magic and often become wizards. Shorter than humans, moon elves stand about 5' 10" with the females slightly shorter. Moon elves and gold elves tend to not get along often. The moon elves are usually chaotic and unpredictable and much too wily for the likes of the sun elves.

Sun (Gold) Elves
Gold elves tend to sometimes be haughty, even for elves. They are normally noble people, though. They usually have tanned skin with gold highlights. Their hair is often blonde or golden and their eyes are usually brown or green with gold flecks within them. They are taller than most elves, on average the males standing 6' 0". They are normally warriors due to their physical advantage of being taller and stronger than most of the other elves. They do not get along well with moon elves because the moon elves are too unpredictable and they too often bring themselves down to live amongst humans and other 'barbaric' races. Sun elves are normally lawful good.

Wood (Copper) Elves
Wood elves are reclusive and do not often take part in the politics that govern the gold and silver elves. They live in small villages hidden in the trees of deep forests and live as one with nature. Physically, they stand about as tall as the moon elves. Their skin is even darker tan than the sun elves and has copper and green tints to it. Their hair is quite often brown ranging from deep, dark brown, to coppery blonde. Almost all wood elves can shoot a bow with masterful skill and they are great swordsmen, being more muscular than their silver and gold cousins. They generall avoid humans, mostly because humans tend to corrupt and destroy nature. Wood elves tend to be true neutral, but with a good streak because they will not tolerate evil.

Drow (Dark) Elves
The drow are the evil side of the elven family. In the Ancient Days of the Old Gods, the Sun elf god, Corellon Larethian banished his lover, Araushnee, the goddess of the Ilythiiri, who are now known as the drow. She was banished because she had tried to kill Corellon and the other elven gods. In the darkness of the Abyss, she became Lolth. Her people, the Ilythiiri now became the drow, evil and as twisted as their goddess who they obsessively follow.

Drow live in great underground cities where they live in an evil, matriarchal society, led by the priestesses of Lolth. Their strict social structure is really just a tapestry to hide the true chaos of their lives. It is not uncommon for one to be assinated by another who longs for the other's social position.

Drow have obsidian black skin, which contrasts with their stark white hair. They are usually only about 5" 6' in height and are very thin and agile. They have the ability to see even in the pitch black of the Underdark with their varying colored eyes, the most commmon being red.

Avariel (Winged) Elves
The avariel are almost extinct in Imythess and it has been a long time since anyone has seen one...

The avariels are winged elves. They always have a pair of feathered wings and therefore are sometimes known as 'angels'. In appearance they usually have pale skin and hair in different shades of blue or white and sometimes silver. Sometimes they have black or light blonde hair.

There was a time when they were common and lived in great mountain citadels where they could be closest to the sky.

Half-Elves

Half-elves are a mix of elven and human blood. Such unions are not common and often frowned upon by elven and human society, making the half-elf something of an outcast in life.

To humans, half-elves look like elves. To elves, half-elves look like humans and are known as 'half-humans'. Half-elves are attractive, with the blend of beautiful, sharp elven features softened by human blood. Their eyes are larger than a human's and their ears are not as pointed as an elf's. They are only slightly shorter than humans.

The rest of their appearance depends on the kind of elf who is their father or mother. A half-drow will have dusky gray skin and silvery or normal colored hair. Half-silver elves usually have dark hair and pale skin.

Dwarves

Dwarves are the second oldest race to live in Imythess. No one is completely sure just how long, though, because they seemed to have been hiding beneath the mountains for centuries.

Dwarves tend to be brash and very unpredictable. They have a great pride for their metal work, the finest in the land, and in their usually large, well-kept beards.

They stand about 4 to 4 1/2 feet high average, but they are so heavy and broad, they weigh just as much as an average human man. Dwarves' skin is usually a dark, ruddy color and their eyes vary between dark brown to gray. They usually reach maturity around the age of 50 years and live about 400.

Dwarves and elves do not get along. Elves think dwarves are boring and much too serious while dwarves believe the elves to be too aloof and stuck-up. It is true that dwarves are serious beings. They do not laugh easily, unless they have had some fine mead and tend to be suspicious of strangers.

Halflings

Witty and quick, halflings are a good-natured, hardy people. They love to wander and rarely stay in one place too long and even when they do place a small settlement, they always have it ready to pack up if they decide to leave. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

Halflings are short, only about 3 feet tall and weighing 30-35 pounds. They almost always have straight, black hair and tan skin with brown or black eyes.

They love to laugh and are almost constant pranksters. Their lighthearted attitude though, does not mean they are carefree. They work hard to keep their bands alive while travelling and have weathered many hardships on the road. Family is very important to halfling society.

Planetouched

Not completely of this world, Planetouched people are usually a mix of outsider blood and humans or other, native humanoid races. Outsiders are creatures and humanoids not native to the Material Plane but from another altogether, like the Elemental Plane of Fire or the Abyss.

Half-Celestial

This is a child who has a Celestial parent. Celestials do not often fall in love with people of the Material Plane, but it does happen from time to time. A half-Celestial receives several traits from their parent. For one, they are almost always good and fight evil in almost any way they can and try to fight the injustices of the world. Often they have a holy aura around them and sometimes they even have wings of their parent was a winged Celestial. They often have golden or silver skin, sparkling eyes, or other signs of their holy heritage. Never truly fitting in among the mortal races, half-celestials are often loners.

Aasimar

Related in some way to Celestials, an Aasimar is not a half-Celestial, but possibly distantly related (Child of a half-Celestial, possibly). They are normally tall, good-looking, and usually pleasant and good aligned. They sometimes have a minor physical trait that shows their higher nature, such as silver or gold tinted skin or hair, gold or silver eyes, or an unnaturally intense stare.

Half-Fiend

Sometimes, on rare occasions, a demon will mate with a humanoid from the Material Plane, giving birth to an unholy creature known as the half-fiend. They are usually hideous to behold, sometimes having dark scales, horns, glowing red eyes, batwings, or other signs of their dark heritage. All too rarely, a half-fiend will turn from their evil parent and try to fit into the world of Imythess.

Tiefling

Like the Aasimar, the Tiefling is not directly descended from a demon, but has one as a grandparent or the likes. They usually have a physical sign of their heritage such as pointed teeth, red eyes, an aura of evil around them, the odor of brimstone, cloven feet or some other dark sign. They are almost always evil and have a bad reputation to the rest of the world as being untrustworthy.

Genasi

There are four types of genasi, one for each element; fire, water, earth, and air. Genasi are humanoids descended from elementals distantly. They bear physical traits that mark their heritage as follows:

Air Genasi
Descendants from air elementals can have any number of traits, the most common being: Windswept appearance, an aura of wind constantly surrounding them, light blue skin, pale white skin, white hair, light blue hair, pointed ears, flesh that is cool to the touch, voice that can be heard over any non-magical wind, any sudden movement accompanied by whistling wind.

Fire Genasi
Fire genasi are hot-blooded and quick to anger, proud and unafraid to take action. They appear mostly human, with one or two unusual traits reflecting their quasi-elemental nature. These traits could be: Charcoal gray skin, deep red skin, hair that moves like flames, red or orange colored hair, pointed ears, eyes that glow when angry, unusually warm skin, always smells like smoke.

Earth Genasi
Earth genasi are slow to act, ponderous in thought, and set in their ways, usually with traits to their heritage: earth-like skin, eyes like black pits, eyes like gems, pointed ears, gravelly voice, very large hands and feet, iron gray hair, sweats mud instead of water, metallic sheen to skin, metallic sheen to hair.

Water Genasi
Water genasi are patient and slow to change, preferring to wear away opposition slowly, but are capable of great violence in extreme situations. They are most often neutral. All have one or more traits that reflect their quasi-elemental nature, such as: Light scaled skin, clammy flesh, blue-green skin, blue-green hair, large blue and black eyes, pointed ears, webbed hands and feet, small gills on neck. Most water genasi descended from a water elemental outsider such as a marid (water genie) or triton. A rare few are born of outsider servants of evil.

Half-Dragon

Sometimes, dragons take on a human guise and travel among humanoids for sometimes years. They sometimes fall in love with a human or other humanoid races and as a result, have a half-dragon child. They almost always has physical traits betraying their true natures such as scales, elongated features, reptilian eyes, and exaggerated teeth and claws. Sometimes they even have wings. They are very rarely accepted into society because of these traits and are mostly loners.

Vampire
A vampire was once were of normal, humanoid society, but have somehow crossed paths with the vampire underground. Vampires are almost always evil because of their bloodthirsty natures. Vampires cannot live without feeding on the blood of other humanoids, which is why they are seen as evil and they pretty much are.

There are many vampires in the port city, Taras if you know where to look...
