Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The city at dawn

The Ancient City glows softly in the light of the rising sun. The rays pierce the dark places, illuminating them with a soft glow. Animals start to rise, with the sun, and wander into the forest on the outskirts of the city's edges. A group of deer walks slowly to a gurgling stream, near the city's entrance.
A watchtower, still dark in the growing light, glows with mystery. Located near the tower, one of the city's iron gates lays unhinged and half on the ground. The other, screeches on its' hinge in the soft wind. The cobble stone streets lay broken and chipped, earth growing up in random spots between the stones. The once beautiful homes and shops are now ruined and covered in moss and ivy. Sadness and destruction show in the empty streets and abandoned homes. You wonder what happened to this once beautiful and prosperous city, but no one really knows.
Entering the city, Rhys looks around at the ancient buildings, feeling at home. Lothmerad… This place reminds me so much of home. This will not happen to my home though. A worried look creases his face at the thought of what was happening at his own homeland. He gazes a little more, and sighs deeply, before he walks down the empty streets.

A small, slender figure walked throw the ruined city, a pale hand trailing along on a remaining stone wall. She was barefoot though she did not seem to mind the small rocks that scratched her heels. Her sturdy leather breeches and the light cotton shirt, both a brown-grey, were covered in a faint layer of dust making it obvious that she had been exploring for quite sometime. Her silvery feathered wings, though, were clean like always, shining in the early sunlight. Unlike most of the places in Imythess, she had yet to visit this one which might explain her sudden interest in the worndown streets and houses, the old walls and gates and the collapsed towers.

Lyrka moved off of the alleyway she had been walking through, turning into on of the many streets only to freeze at the sight of the blond-haired male. She only had her fighting knives with her, which seemed to be a common thing these days, so she hoped him to be friendly atleast. Pushing a faint smile onto her face, Lyrka walked towards him. "Out for a moring walk, sir?"

Säleth walked in the last shaodwy place left, a small alley beside a burned-looking house and what once was a shop. She licked her lips. She was quite thirsty. Looking not far away she noticed a man and a woman chatting in the vacant street. She smiled viciously. They would not be expecting a vampyre in an area this bright. She walked silently out of the alley and skulked by the two, her fangs shining brightly in the sunlight.

Surprised by the voice from behind him, he turned his head slightly to the side; he caught a glimpse of the woman. Quickly deciding she meant no harm, he turned his full body towards her, and returned her faint smile. Quickly bowing at the waist, as he was taught when encountering women, he replied in a cheerful tone. "Yes, I was enjoying the sunrise. This place seems very familiar to me." Thinking to himself, "How stupid me not to bring some type of weapon! I should have known this might have happened." Gazing around again, he noticed a large pole at the side of the alleyway. Glancing back at the woman, he noticed her shiny wings. He smiled at them. "May I ask what has brought you to this place at this hour?"

The smile upon her face stretched, growing for a moment before returning to normal and she nodded. "The sunrise is always nice.... Me? I was indulging my bad habit of exploring places by both moonlight and sunlight." She let her silver gaze roam over the builds around her, shrugging as she did so.

(Dang.. I can't read that white glow stuff... I'll quit using that. Sorry about that! I hope you could read it ok.)

"I see... I have never had a habit like that. Mine are always something to keep me busy, like chewing on my nails." He looks down at his nails and runs his thumb over the short nails and smiles to himself.
The sun, now high in the sky, shows the beauty of the day. The flowers have fully opened and the leaves on the trees are a beautiful green. The wind blows a soft wind around them, blowing Rhys's cape off to the side. A small stone is blown near his foot. He kicks it away, sending it down the alleyway, bouncing off walls as it goes. He squints as he looks around again, trying to think of something to say.

The smile grew second time, accompanied by soft laughter. "Biting nails seems to be a habit of many.... I am Lyrka, it is a pleasure to meet you sir." She dipped her head a bit in greeting.

Bowing quickly again, he replies "I am Rhys, and the pleasure is mine. I have met few people while in Imythess; you are one of the few. I would like to meet more, but unfortunately, I am unable to. I have a pressing matter to attend to while I am in Imythess." A look of sadness and anger crosses his face, but he quickly covers it with a weak smile. "I have been here only a few days, and am still a little lost in the ways of Imythess. I have found it is quite different from where I come from. This city reminds me somewhat of my home, except this is deserted and a ruin. The buildings are very much the same, and you can tell that this was once a grand city. My home still is a grand city, but I'm not sure for how long."

Lyrka smiled, her silvery gaze shifting over the different buildings of the ruins. "Oh aye, this was a beautiful, I'm sure... Pressing matters? May I ask what?" She glanced over at him curiously, the smile slipping from her face when she managed to see his anger and pain. "Rhys?"

His head fell a little as he replied in a sad tone; "It's a painfull subject that is very close to my heart. War... It has taken my island. Our army is losing ground in each battle. It's slowly killing my father. I have come to Imythess before it is too late."
Glancing up he waited for a reaction to cross her face.

A tight, pained expression crossed her face and no matter how many times she tried, she did not seem able to erase it. "...I know how war, battles and death are, I understand you pain. And I wish there was something I could do to help, but I don't think there is."

The reaction he saw on her face surprised him a little, but he was comforted by the fact that this stranger cared. He could tell she understood the pain of death too. "Death has been slow coming, but soon it will take my kingdom... It has been a long and hard fight with many casualties. This war has taken its tole on all of my family. Your sympathy is all that you can do for me now, and I thank you for it.

Lyrka nodded, perching herself upon a large stoneblock, apparently from a nearby wall. "If my sympathy is all I can give, then I will continue to give it... You need not thank me for it."

He sighs heavily, and nods his head, unable to think of any words. His heart felt like it was being torn in two at the thoughts and memories of Cear and Lothmerad. He had tried to block out those thoughts, but they always had a way of creeping back into his mind.
He brings his hand to his face and rubs it roughly. When he takes it away, his face is all blotchy and red. He sits on the ground and cocks his knee so he can rest his elbow on it. He then rests his head on his hand. He glances around again, waiting for his usual color to return. "I have a feeling following me, I do not like this weak feeling. It makes me sick thinking about it. I do not know how I left, or what posessed me to come here. It was my decision, and my family accepted it."

Lyrka watched silently as he rubbed at his face and then as he sat. The pained expression remained still, though she did try to replace it with a smile as she remarked aloud. "There are some things in life that simply must be done, wheither you like them or not in the end there will be nothing you can do to change it... My mother once said, 'The fates rule our lives but it is destiny that brings you to where you are today'. I think this goes for what has happened to you."
