Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Everto growled as he walked into the gate, he was being escorted by two academy mages claiming him to be their 'project' for a demon summoning to show off, of course they had lost it and they found Everto and had a spell that identified him as a demon, truth be told he was half demon and qualified as a target for their spell, when one of them called him one dwarf of a demon, he snapped, lashing out with his words as he curled his gauntlet clad fists, "My name is Everto Parvulus! I am a half-demon you stupid fools! Now I demand respect or I'll force you two idiots to grovel on the floor and beg for death." The two laughed at him as they explained their summoning, "See those gauntlets you have? Those were summoned with you to keep you unable to fight, though from our combined mana you'll only be on this plane for a few more minutes."

Everto gritted his teeth as he started to cast a spell, his finger glowing as he started to write the complex equations for the magic he was about to perform, he spoke once more before starting his attack, "I sent a letter her two days ago and I happened to get lost... I am hesitant to strike out at academy mages but you've irked me for far to long, I will not kill you, but now that we're here I'll beat you down and find the person who is supposed to be showing me around the campus." He felt new strength surge through his limbs as the spell took it's effect, the strength of a bull would give him that much needed oomf in his punches. He shot forward and sent his fist into the man's groin, sending him to his knees as he shouted in pain, now they could see eye to eye, Everto immediately headbutted the man in the jaw, shattering it and sending him into sweet, sweet, unconsciousness. He turned to the other one who tried to run, but was to slow as he grabbed the mage's robe and pulled him back, sending him sprawling to the ground, he heard his cries for mercy, but still attacked anyway, sending a series of punches into the man's stomach, finishing him off with a back hand across the man's jaw, knocking him out. He turned back to the path and saw a few mages looking at them warily, he grimaced as he saw an older looking man walk to him, he responded in kind as he recognized the man from the description, but his name escaped him, either way, he would get his tour soon.

"Um... are... are you ready?"

The crimson-headed woman sighed, trying to repress the smile that threatened to curl up the corners of her mouth. "Of course I'm ready, Parvil. We're going to switch spots if you ask me again." Priscilla knew that she probably she shouldn't enjoy watching the student squirm so much, but it was hard to suppress her amusement. Parvil was a talented healer with four years of study under the medical mages at the Academy, but he was decidedly out of his comfort zone as her assistant. The young arcanist-in-training had originally offered to apprentice himself to her master, Julian Cross, but his interest in the eccentric High Sage had faded after one of his other students had been thrown into a quarry in order to encourage him to 'feel as one with the stone.' So he had switched to studying under Priscilla instead. Although she had no skill with magic of any sort, the researcher, scholar, and researcher was known for her keep intellect and teaching ability. Of course, he probably hadn't been prepared to help fire a miniaturized ballista at his mentor.

"Alright... Here goes... Good luck."

She snorted in a decidedly unladylike manner. "As if someone as beautiful and brilliant as me needs lu-" The boast was cut off by the distinctive sound of the modified siege weapon being triggered, the torsion springs unleashing all of their pent-up force and hurling the steel-tipped bolt straight towards her. The projectile caught Priscilla in the chest, sending her flying backwards. However, instead of impaling the demure woman it got no further than her skin. As soon as it had struck her the blood underneath skin hardened to a strength comparable to that of diamonds, making it impossible to penetrate her torso. Blood spread out from the small wound, crystallizing as it oozed over her flesh to make a breastplate. She slammed into the padded wall with bruising force, coughing as the ballista bolt fell away and rolled across the floor. Priscilla fell to her hands and knees, coughing steadily as she rubbed at her chest.

"Priscilla? Are you dead yet?"

"As if you'd get that lucky. You still owe me a paper on the effects of healing magic on hemoglobin concentration." She laughed shortly, almost immediately regretting the movement due to the pressure on her ribs. She sat up, closing her eyes and focusing on the blood flow throughout her chest. The instinctive armor that had spread across her torso slowly receded, sucked back into the small pinprick where the steel bolt had hit her. "No fractures or internal injuries. Significant bruising across my entire front. Seriously, ow." She stood up, kicking the ballista bolt with a grimace. "No significant damage, although there'll be a nasty bruise in the morning. Maybe if you're lucky I'll let you put a salve on it." She ignored the flustered protests from her student, walking out of the testing chamber while absentmindedly rubbing her sternum. Her student was resolutely looking away from her, scribbling the results in his notebook. They had been testing the limits of her instinctive defense mechanism for weeks now. The crystallized blood could deflect blows from almost any physical attack.

She peered over Parvil's shoulder, quickly scanning his calculations and seeing that they were all correct, although his significant figures were atrocious. She pointed this out before heading back into the room they had modified for the experiments, beginning to crank the ballista back to full readiness. She had just finished when an out-of-breath messenger boy burst into the room, holding a small piece of paper formally addressed to Dr. Priscilla Vermillion, Mystic Researcher, First Order. She took the missive and unfurled it, reading the scrawled message hurriedly and frowning. "Parvil, hold down the fort. Apparently I have been given the privilege to escort a new prospective around campus." There was no missing the sarcastic note to her words. The student nodded, still resolutely mending his calculations as she strode out of the room, snagging a dark maroon jacket and putting it on. Her shirt was ripped from the ballista bolt, and the Chancellor would undoubtedly be upset if she met with a 'prospy' while in a state of undress.

Priscilla quickly navigated the jumbled mess of corridors through the building, exiting the nearest doorway into the massive courtyard in the center of the Academy. Once upon a time the institution had only consisted as a handful of buildings scattered around its perimeter, but over the years various expansions and products had linked all of the buildings together into a conglomerate structure. Only one side of the courtyard was still easily accessible, and this was where the gate was that served as the 'official' entrance to the Academy. She was surprised to see that there was a small commotion near the main gate. Two arcanists were lying on the ground in obvious distress, one unconscious and the other moaning in a manner that suggested he was seriously injured. Priscilla was not the first one to notice what was happening. She could spot at least one Arcane Inquisitor and two Lower Sages heading towards the one responsible for the attack, a diminutive figure standing over the crumpled bodies in a defensive stance.

"Really now! What is the meaning of this?" The researcher stood on the outskirts of the circle that had formed around the instigator, watching Arcane Inquisitor Hayworth as he accosted the young man. The high-ranking official might not look like very impressive due to his thick jowls and thicker gut, but she had seen him summon a storm so powerful it could have destroyed an entire city. "We do not allow this kind of behavior on Academy grounds, young man!" Priscilla smirked at that, having been responsible for her fair share of brawls during her years as a student. Healers from the crowd quickly stepped forward, holding their hands out over their fallen comrades and beginning to mend their injuries.

OOC

Hayworth was supposed to give you the tour but decided to push you off on Vee instead. He doesn't know that you're Everto yet. Feel free to RP any NPCs as you see fit, they're just names in a crowd."

Everto looked at the man and growled, "My name is Everto Parvulus, I'm here to get my tour of the campus, these two idiots mistook me for a demon they summoned with enchanted gauntlets that reduce it's power, my gauntlets looked like it and they used a spell that detected my demon blood, and I will not apologize for beating the nitwits. I was told that my knowledge of the Wild Magic my mother used would be regarded highly, my mother was here for only a week, she summoned my father here, she graduated from the teachings of this place in a mere year, surpassing most people thanks to her illogical Wild magic, even though she was here over a hundred years ago I heard this place was second to none back then. Now I suggest you get whoever gets the honor of showing me around and get out of my face." Everto looked at the man as his gauntlets became clawed at the finger tips, becoming even more dangerous.

One of the healers walked forward and grabbed Everto's arm, "It doesn't matter who or what you are! You're a child and will be treated as so, I doubt you can even cast a simple light spell." Everto glared at the man and turned his head slightly to the side, grabbing the man's arm with his free hand and prying the man's grip from his arm, he twisted the arm and sent the man spiraling through the air, landing heavily on his back. Everto shouted at the man, "You should get your information straight, I'm over a hundred years old! Respect for your elders you blasted novice mage!" He stopped himself from stomping on the man as he turned back to the group, "Now, please show me who is supposed to show me around if you're not going to, I want to memorize the campus so I can get to work rewriting my theory of demon biology and the effects of Wild Magic in multiple enviroments!" He saw a few people look at him with a questioning look to their faces, Wild magic was unpredictable and dangerous, few people bothered with it since it was just as likely to heal someone as explode their lungs, but Everto found it and fire magic fascinating, which is why he was here, study and research, he would put these lower class mages in their place with his theories and experiments.

Priscilla watched the confrontation with a small smirk that she would surely get chastised for if one of her superiors had noticed it. It was rare to see a student with this much spunk, although she had to admit his intelligence was probably lacking if he thought taking that tone with an Arcane Inquisitor would help him get through the admissions process. In fact, he was doing a thoroughly wonderful job of bumbling his first encounter with one of the ten members of the entrance committee. She might have spoken up and warned him if it wasn't so amusing to watch someone crash and burn. The revelation that he was a half-demon wasn't too surprising considering some of the other beings that studied here. She knew of at least two minotaurs that shared a room in the depths of the alchemy wing, there was a gorgon studying advanced mystical mathematics that wore a always wore pair of mirrored glasses to keep her from accidentally paralyzing her peers, and there had been rumors circulating for years that Julian had more than a drop of faerie blood in his veins. Totally false, of course, but she couldn't blame students for trying to explain the man's eccentricity.

Hayworth was sputtering with incoherent anger by the time that Everto had stopped talking, and his mood was not improved by the half-demon throwing an advanced graduate student in medicine to the ground. Priscilla felt the crowd around her began to grow more nervous with the Arcane Inquisitor's anger. His robes was flapping around him in an unseen wind, bolts of lightning quite literally flashing in his eyes. The haemokinetic glanced around, gauging the mood of the crowd with the ease of someone who had lived at the Academy for an extended period of time. In that instant she knew that everyone here was willing to let Hayworth summon a cyclone to pick the half-demon up and throw him our of the institution. She quickly stepped forward, ignoring the incredulous stares of her colleagues and students. "Hayworth, sir, I believe you summoned me here to act as a guide?"

The Inquisitor stared at her for a second, his robes gradually growing still. He spat out several words that could potentially be a coherent sentence. "Yes... Mystic Researcher... Guide... Vermillion... Yes." The man stalked off across the courtyard, students and faculty alike scurrying to get out of his path. The researcher watched him leave with a small, confident smile before turning to glare at the crowd. Although in worse lighting her eyes might appear brown, in the bright sunlight it was clear to see that they were a deep, dark shade of red. "Would anyone else like to offer their assistance?" The students dispersed almost immediately, none of them willing to risk the wrath of a woman who would eventually be drilling them on the relationship of the Academy with the ruling powers in Imythess over the centuries. Her colleagues took longer to file away, none of them wanting to look too intimidated by one of the youngest members of the faculty. A few helped their fallen comrades to their feet, taking them towards the medical wing.

Priscilla waited until there was no one standing nearby to walk closer to Everto, her small smile fading entirely. "Whoop-de-doo, your mommy was smart. Keep acting like that and you'll get banned from the Academy, and I imagine that won't make conducting research on Wild Magic easy." She set her hands on her hips, flicking her head to one side so that her red hair flashed in the sunlight. Everto might think he had earned the right to act like a big shot, but that would only earn him the hatred of his peers and teachers alike. "I'll like to get one thing straight. You earn respect here. Keep acting like this and I'll escort you out myself." She grinned widely, showing far too much teeth for the expression to be friendly. "You might be able to trounce some bookworm summoners and wimpy medics, but if you'd like your first lesson I can bloody your lip for you. Free of charge."

Everto gave the sputtering, glaring mage a fierce look of his own, though he could tell he was getting ready to cast a spell, he himself was already working one out in his mind, he would set the tub of lard on fire in an instant, though before either one could complete their spells a young woman stepped in the way, it turns out she was supposed to be his guide. When she diffused the situation and told him what to expect with his current attitude. His face went livid for a few moments, then he remembered his mother's words, he needed to stay calm. He took a deep breath and then slowly released it to calm himself down before speaking, "I was asked to do the experimentation for the Academy, I'm a fire specialist, but growing up seeing Wild Magic and having my mother force it down my throat makes me one of the few experts on the subject, they want this stuff on paper and in experiment notes. They'll probably kick me out once I complete a book full of it since first hand experience of it is so rare... and well, random." He gave her a calm look as he heard her mentioning bloodying his lip, there was no cockiness in her voice, just fact, she was stronger then her, he was a fire mage but if he couldn't get a spell off it was down to his fists, and he wasn't all to confident in that.

He released the spell to return himself to his normal strength and shrugged as he gave her a smirk, "Maybe some other time, I've made enough people angry, they'll be whispering my name for a while, now I just need to learn where everything is and then get the Wild Magic to work properly... or at least not blow up my lungs... or a desk.... randomly." His mind was already crunching the numbers, trying to figure out a proper starting area, but he realized he was being rather rude ignoring his guide, he held his hand out as the claws became fingers once more, "Sorry if I sounded condescending at all, Mother always told me to... respect the Academy Mages, it's just a few things tick me off, being called a kid being the biggest thing that makes my blood boil. So I'd like to try and get on the right foot with someone, I'm Everto Parvulus, call me Everto." He waited for her to shake his hand and spoke again, "So please, show me around the campus." It hurt his pride a bit to do this, but it was necessary, he needed allies and friends in the school, once the Wild Magic studies were done they would throw him out since he wasn't a particularly good mage, taking over a hundred years to learn how to create fireballs, he would need all the help he could get from the people in Istan branch... along with the Striberg Academy, but that would come at a later date

Priscilla watched the smaller half-demon for several long, tense moments, as if she was trying to decide whether she should attack him anyway. Eventually she shrugged and stepped away from him, the subtle tension in her shoulders fading. Due to the nature of her gifts, the researcher was purely a close-range fighter. Julian had recognized this almost instantly and used his influence to get her enrolled in hand-to-hand combat classes with an expert from the Istani Army. She was fairly certain that if she had to she could have crushed Everto like a bug, but she was thankful it hadn't come to that. "I'm glad we understand each other. My name is Priscilla Vermillion, and I am a Mystic Researcher of the First Order. I'll start my tour by saying you should really give the Academy of Magic more credit. Since the destruction of Taras, this campus is the largest institution devoted to the pursuit of knowledge in Imythess, be it magical or mundane." She turned and waved an arm towards the courtyard, which was still full of students taking a break from their studies during one of the day's passing periods. "We never turn away someone who is willing to both learn and teach. If that was the case, I would have been thrown out years ago. Keep an open mind and refrain from breaking any more limbs and we should all get along splendidly."

She led him through the press of bodies, a small path clearing in front of her. Priscilla was a well-known face here, and very few people wanted to get on her bad side. She had come here at the age of fourteen and managed to complete a six-year program in less than two years, completing her thesis and being promoted to graduate status. Since then she had doggedly climbed through the ranks until she held one of the highest possible positions for a pure researcher. They soon reached one of the multitude of doors that led into the expansive building. "If you think about the building as being the same shape as a horseshoe, you'll have a general idea of how to get around. The left side is the research wing, the right side is the academic wing, and the central section is the archives. These are only vague categories, of course. It would be impossible to identify what every room in the building is used for, given all the expansions." She led Everto into the main hallway of the research wing, which was thankfully devoid of the press of bodies outside. Only full arcanists were allowed in here, which technically didn't include Everto. However, if he was telling the truth about being invited to share his knowledge he would probably be given permission to walk these halls.

She branched off of the main corridor after a few minutes, pointing out the use of every doorway they passed. Any graduate who chose to stay at the Academy and teach was given a laboratory of their own, and the experiments being conducted within were as varied as the individuals conducting them. From time to time they would pass a door with a hazard sign hanging from its handle, suggesting that truly dangerous work was being done within. After leading Everto through a maze of passageways and staircases they reached a thick, steel door that had several locks lining its edge. Priscilla smiled as she pulled at her necklace to withdraw the silver amulet that marked her as a graduate of the Academy. "Of course, this is where you'll be working." She pressed the face of the talisman to a slot on the door, the magical locks releasing as it recognized the minuscule patterns etched into the silver. The door creaked open of its own volition, revealing a massive chamber. Every wall was lined with steel plate, small lights set into the wall and providing a steady, constant illumination. At the moment, it was completely empty. "Each piece of metal is imbued with powerful antimagics without influencing the interior space. Its like a bubble completely cut off from the rest of the Academy. No magic gets in, no magic gets out. You have to apply to be given time to work in here, but it can be worth it. It's prohibited to practice Wild Magic in any other room."

Everto stroked his chin, this place relied far to much on trust, something he was hesitant to give since the last time he gave trust he had been knocked out, dragged away, and tortured to the point of almost breaking his mind, not to mention the fact the paladins that had captured him created flesh golem copies of him, which he destroyed most of them, but a few were still lying around somewhere, especially their leader who's only difference was the fact that he used a blue jacket and flames, while Everto had a red jacket and green flames. He shook himself from his thoughts of doppelgangers to follow Priscilla around the campus, taking in the sights and sounds of the campus. All in all he probably looked like a kid, his anger was gone, so he was immediately swallowed up by the experience, looking at all of the people writing things, the students of all races, it was so interesting.

Though soon he was pulled into a state of childlike delight as he saw the room he was going to be working in, he took a few steps in and could feel the anti-magic, this would be perfect for the chaotic effects of the Wild magic. He looked to Priscilla, and smiled for once, "This is a pretty nice setup, this way the wild magic could only effect me... so does this place have some kinda suit so that the wild magic won't explode my lungs if I try doing some with the air?" This was a serious question, he had seen his mother explode the lungs of bandits when she was just trying to create a strong burst of wind... unfortunately it was inside the bandit's lungs.

He looked behind Priscilla into the hall and saw a familiar face, an old friend from when he was actually a kid. He was about to run past Priscilla when he saw a patch on the robes, of the Black Shield and Sword of the Black Knights, he had become one of the paladins chasing him. Everto frowned, his shoulders sagging slightly as he sighed, "Please show me the rest of this place... do I give you some kind of title or do I just call you Priscilla?" He waited for her answer, a mixed feeling of hatred for the Black Knights and their racist tendencies and affection for an old friend that had learned basic magic with him, he watched the elf leave with only the corner of his eye as he kept his attention on Priscilla.

The woman shrugged. "I've never focused on titles. Priscilla will be fine." She walked into the chamber a few feet, her footsteps echoing in the cavernous chamber. She moved over to one of the walls, striking the steel plate there with the heel of her hand, unhitching the lock on the hidden door. Inside were several suits that was stitched out of silvery fabric. "Basic supplies are in here, which includes some magic dampening suits. Unfortunately, a true antimagic suit would make it impossible for you to actually use magic. You'll just have to be very careful." She bent down, lifting the steel plate back up and slamming it shut so it was flush with the rest of the wall. "It should defuse any magic you are experimenting with without decreasing your precision or control."

She left the room, making sure to fully close the door behind them. The magical system of locks would keep the room hermetically sealed until another researcher needed to use it. The facility was far too expensive to leave open and available for anyone that wandered down here. She led Everto back into the main part of the research wing, leading him towards the central section of the building. "Now, we're going to be in the archives now. They're probably the easiest possible place to get lost in the entire Academy. No magic is allowed inside or one of the scribes will probably kill you." Priscilla paused outside a wooden door at the end of the hallway, nodding to the woman that was stationed there. She smiled calmly at the researcher, nodding in greet. "Sarah, we've got a newbie. Mind going over the rules?"

"Of course, Dr. Priscilla." The scribe turned to Everto, handing him a small crystal. "The Academy possibly has the most extensive library in all of Istan. However, since a lot of the books are quite old, we don't want to put them under any unnecessary stress. So there is no natural light allowed in the library, which includes sunlight. These crystals have been enchanted to shine with a soft light that will let you read but not hurt any of our books. Speak softly. No food or drink is allowed inside. And absolutely. No. Fire." There was an edge of iron in the scribe's voice as she opened the door. "Enjoy your time in the Archives."

Priscilla walked into the dark room, pulling a small crystal out of her pocket and flicking the facet to start the enchantment glowing. It only illuminated a small sphere around her, but the woman knew her way around the library by now. She led Everto forward, holding the crystal above her head to light up the stacks The shelves stretched up like tree trunks, disappearing far above the ability of her crystal to light up. She spoke in a soft whisper. "You can find anything you want in here, if you know where to look. There are a dozen main rooms and hundreds of smaller chambers for studying. The scribes always have blue crystals so that you can find them easier." They could see other spheres of light wandering throughout the shelves, indicating the location of others in the Archives.

Everto nodded as he was showing the dampening suits, his mind was churning with new ideas, he could afford to do more dangerous experiments... but he should probably start out small, probably try to break down weapons into their base components, his mind was already churning with the calculations needed to know how hot he'd have to make the room, which items melt at which level of heat, the possibilities weren't endless, but it was quite large.

He was pulled from his mental reverie when Priscilla started to leave, he immediately set out to follow the woman, who lead him to the archives. He looked at the shelves of books and scrolls, his eyes wide as he gazed at the knowledge waiting for him, magical and non-magical wonders were only a moment away. When he was in his daze he was given a crystal he found it was magically enchanted, he listened to the woman who gave him the crystal, no fire was obvious, but they went through quite a few things to keep their books protected. He wouldn't be able to bring his pet here, the fire breathing glass drake hatchling was a bit of a fire starter. He followed Priscilla into the archives and marveled at the books, it was beautiful in a sense. He skimmed and scanned the shelves for anything he would like to read, activating his own crystal and holding it up, he saw several interesting books, but one caught his eye, a book with the black sword and shield design.

Everto stopped and picked out the book, "Please wait a moment Priscilla, I just found something... very very interesting." He opened the book and read the beginning of it, it was a history book for the paladins that are chasing him and trying to kill every halfbreed they come across. He smiled as it listed important areas and forts they had, this would be some critical information for later. He put the book back and walked back to her, "Okay, sorry, there was something that was very... interesting and important I needed to skim, now I'm ready to continue the tour." He waited for her to lead on, his mind churning with what to do with all of this information... probably memorize it, yes, he would first work on memorizing a few books, some on fire, some on magic theory, and the history book of course.

The researcher watched the half-demon curiously as his attention was caught by one of the thick tomes, walking away from her and picking up one of the nearby books and flipping through it with rapt attention. She caught a quick glimpse of the symbol on the cover of the book. It created a spark in her memory, but for the life of her she couldn't remember where it was from. How embarrassing. What would my students say. Priscilla couldn't help but smile at the look on Everto's face. Clearly this was a man that enjoyed learning, an attitude she could relate to. "Stacy forgot to mention this, but you need express permission to remove any books from the Archives. There's paperwork to fill out and the scribes need to make sure you aren't trying to take out a book whose pages will dissolve when they see sunlight." She has seen the Master Archivist's expression once before when he had caught a student slipping a book out of the library. The student himself had been found a week later only missing one ear. Most people considered him lucky.

"If you don't mind, we're going to cut through the courtyard. This place can take forever to get across. Sometimes a shelf collapse and you have to try and navigate the basement." She wormed her way through the stacks towards another door that led into a small chamber. The scribe there took the crystal back from Everto and made sure the Archives were completely shut off before allowing them to exit another door that led straight out onto the marble flagstones. The next period had begun during their exploration of the inside, so the outside space was thankfully almost empty. Only students that were lucky enough to have the hour off were still sitting around, studying or just enjoying the break. She led Everto to the right-hand side of the building, reciting a small blurb about the institute's history.

There was a definite difference between the academic wing and the rest of the Academy. The hallways were muted, as if the constant threat of failure or expulsion over the students kept them from speaking freely. Priscilla led Everto to one of the nearest doors, gesturing towards the window to indicate that he should look inside. A giant lecture hall was within, with over a thousand students seated listening to a young man lecturing about the thermokinetic equations that related the amount of magic drawn upon to the resulting heat of the fireball. "We have classes offered on almost any subject you can name. The more common subjects can be taken every semester, with more advanced and obscure material covered by request." She grinned with an almost sadistic flair. "In fact, I'm offering a course on expert-level Kinetic Applications of Magical Force, if you're interested. If you can pass my entrance exam." She chuckled cruelly, turning away from the lecture hall and staring down the hall. "I could show you more of the academic rooms if you want, but the only interesting ones are the novice alchemy labs. There hasn't been a death in... Oh, almost three years now, but it can still be amusing."

Everto simply followed Priscilla, letting her lead him to the halls where classes were being held, when she motioned for him to look in, his eyes ignored the crowds but focused on the professor, who was weaving intricate letters, symbols, and numbers in the air to show a fairly common way to conjure a fireball into your hand, understanding the ways behind it helped the process, it was dangerous otherwise. He let loose a short laugh and looked at Priscilla, "He's got it wrong, as a specialist in fire magic, I know that the way he's using takes more energy then necessary and not enough heat to cause the body to combust." He stopped himself before he went on a tirade or a lecture and smirked, "Sorry, fire magic is a bit of a passion."

When she mentioned a test to take her classes, his smirk became a grin, "I'm not the smartest person, but I'd gladly take the test here and now, any class that lets me expand my knowledge will be welcome, the harder it is the more I gain from it. I am no genius mage, but I will work three times harder then most to get the results i want." He was not smart, but he was quick and ready to modify any knowledge he had to allow a new theory or item to be tested, without his hard work he would be nothing more then a low class mage, trying to figure out how to cast a fireball with an outdated formula. He heard a slight disturbance down the hall, which immediately presented itself as a glass drake hatchling, flying directly towards Everto. He rubbed his eyes as a small group of people came after it, probably wanting to capture it as a rare specimen. He felt the familiar weight of the glass drake as it laid down on his head, he glared at the people chasing his pet and said, "Hey, leave my pet alone, he's tired." He realized it sounded childish but it was the truth, Pyris had probably been looking for him for a long time. He looked back to Priscilla, "Please show me to the place where I can take your test, I'm ready for just about anything." He saw a few people looking at the drake still and which perked it's head up, yawning and then promptly falling asleep ontop of his head, he would have to put Pyris on a leash or else someone might take him away, but for now, he wanted to take a test, be it practical or text, he could probably get a decent grade.

She glanced through the window to watch the instructor scribble his equation in the air, her eyes going blank for a moment as she worked through the calculations. Once she figured out the issue she couldn’t help but smile. ”He’s technically correct once you compensate for the lack of an overdraw, slippage, or dissipation variable. Remember that this is an introductory-level class; we don’t want to scare students away if their academic background is lacking.” She shrugged offhandedly. Unless a student planned on becoming a pure fire mage, there was very little motivation for them to learn the full, expanded form of many of the relevant equations. Priscilla barely remembered the proper functions to use for solving such a problem, and she probably wouldn’t have remembered it at all if she hadn’t taught that same course several semesters ago. ”I’m sure he’ll mention the dangers to them before the practical half of lecture. We can only treat so many burned students a day and nothing will make singed eyebrows burned back.”

The researcher was a bit surprised at the half-demon’s willingness to join her class. After all, after the display he had put on for Hayworth there would be no guarantee that he would even be allowed to stay at the Academy, no matter how much knowledge he possessed on the subject of Wild Magic. She was saved the need for an immediate response by a disturbance in the hallways, a group of students chasing a small winged creature down the corridor. The unidentified animal flew straight to Everto, perching on his head like some sort of living crown. It was a miniature drake, its skin and flesh seemingly composed of pure, translucent glass. The arcanists-in-training that had been following the small creature glanced at Priscilla before disappearing, obviously deciding not to press the issue in front of a faculty member. If she hadn’t been there, the boys would have probably made the mistake of trying to take the drake from Everto, a situation that probably would have ended poorly for everyone.

”Well… I can give you a small practical test, but the full qualifying examination will have to wait until after I get permission from Admissions. If the course is full, there are only so many strings I can pull.” She led Everto and his pet outside of the academic wing, taking the shortest route back to her personal laboratory by cutting straight across the courtyard. Although it was possible to get anywhere on campus from indoors, it was usually much faster to go outside and risk the elements. Once inside the research wing she led Everto through several hallways before barging into her own experimental rooms, suppressing a chuckle at the sight of Parvil jumping out of his chair. ”We have a visitor, Par. How do the numbers look?”

The student shuffled some papers, looking slightly anxious at her unexpected return. “G-Good, Dr. Vee. The deployment speed is truly remarkable. I can only estimate numbers right now, but it looks like the mechanism triggers at rates near the speed of sound. It’s technically above the specifications for our capture advice.”

She stopped, looking at him with a small, surprised expression. ”That fast, eh? Damn Julian, it seems like his idea was right.” She took off her jacket, throwing the garment on a nearby stack of papers and gestured at the drake on Everto’s head. ”Your passenger should get off here, just in case. “ She walked into the connecting room without further aplomb, locking her fingers and stretching both arms in front of her. The vest she wore underneath had been cut off at the shoulders, leaving both of her arms completely bare. There was still a small rip near her sternum, but it was not large enough to threaten her modesty. She turned to the half-demon with a small, cocky smile, standing on the opposite side of the room, leaving around thirty feet between them. ”Well, you say fire magic is your passion? Prove it. Hit me with a fireball.” She tapped her chest with one finger, the smile growing a fraction wider. ”You fail if you spontaneously combust.” She dropped both arms to her sides into a relaxed stance, her dark red eyes locked onto Everto.

Everto grinned as the students walked away, if they had tried to take it from him there was no doubt in his mind that there would be large pile of ashes in the hall. He watched them walk away as he listened to Priscilla, a practical test first would be best, that way she could know how powerful he was. He followed her through the hall, out to the courtyard, and after a short walk, into a lab. He listened to Priscilla talk to the person in the room, he assumed he was her assistant, he smirked at the thought of having his own personal lab, he would have to do a lot of hard work, but it would be worth it to have his own lab to do as he pleased in it.

He followed her advice and set Pyris down onto an empty chair, the hatchling growled as it was disturbed from it's favorite resting place, but soon went back to sleep. He followed the woman a bit further and noticed she wasn't wearing her jacket, it a bit of odd clothing for a professor, but she wanted him to hit her with a fireball, that was far to easy, "Alright, I'll show you how hot my flames are." He immediately began writing the equations in the air, unlike the fireball shown in the classroom, this one had several different lines of an equation that the normal fireball lacked, one for the silent part of the spell, and the other for a change of color. From his hand shot forth a green fireball, heading directly for the professor, he could taste the success, he was a fire specialist, he would never miscast a fireball, never.

Priscilla could tell the moment Everto decided to rise to the challenge. There was a slight change in his stance, as if he was ready to leap at her and tear her limb from limb. The researcher responded by raising both of her bare arms, folding them in front of her chest. She watched the half-demon with a focused expression as he he wrote a complicated equation in mid-air, the variables glowing brightly for an instant as the spell was finished. She noted that he managed to cast the fireball without any audible incantation and that the flames were a bright, vibrant green instead of the normal colors. She focused on the blood flowing through her arms, her eyes narrowing as she rapidly lowered the temperature of her own blood by a drastic, dangerous amount. She timed the maneuver perfectly so that the chill spread through her limbs a mere instant before the fireball would have struck her. Priscilla lashed out with both arms, feeling a burst of heat on her face as her arms passed through the flames. The fireball splashed against her chilled flesh and dissipated with a flash, fading out of existence.

She sighed deeply, slowly bringing her blood back up to a safe temperature and shaking her arms to return feeling to her extremities. She knew that it was dangerous to use this ability in a combat situation because it dulled her reflexes, but it could prove useful. "There we go. Now, you cast that fireball, so you should know exactly how much energy was contained in that fireball. I managed to cancel it out by reducing my body temperature by an exact amount." Priscilla raised one hand, brushing a strand of crimson hair out of her face. "How many degrees kelvin must I have reduced my blood temperature to effectively eliminate your spell? And, perhaps more importantly, how many degrees of heat is it safe to draw on?" Her arms were slightly paler than usual, her fingernails tinged with light blue. She could technically lower her blood to a low enough temperature that she would stop moving altogether, requiring assistance to thaw her out.

I... have no idea what the answers to those calculations would be. So. Go ahead and say whatever.

Everto grinned as he saw the fireball hit her, and then disperse as if it had hit a wall. When he heard her ability to lower her body temperature and laughed, "So that's why you didn't care about the fireball, as for the answer you would have to drop the body to about... one hundred and... fifty degrees kelvin so that the heat wouldn't have done to much damage, you probably lowered it to a hundred and forty. As for the degrees of heat... do you mean safe for you to draw upon to start regaining heat or do you mean taking heat from the fireball to jump start your blood circulation to regain heat... either way it would only be safe to start raising your blood by one kelvin per second if it's just natural, but if you're taking heat from the fireball and the heat left behind... since it'll spread all over the body I'd say... around eighty degrees kelvin and then start raising it normally so the body doesn't go into shock."

He felt his glasses slip down his nose, he pushed them up as he turned to the side and heard some kind of ruckus outside. He turned to see several men standing in the doorway, one of them holding his pet by the neck and placing a curved knife up to the neck. Everto paled slightly as one of them ran off with the drake while the other three people stood in the doorway, wearing black robes with white masks, one the masks was the same symbol of the order of paladins hunting Everto, the black shield and sword. He grimaced as one of them spoke, "Abomination, if you wish to see your pet alive, come to the basement lab that has been off limits for ten years, anyone that has studied here for more then a year would know the forbidden lab. Ten horrific murders took place in it along with an experiment that took their bodies. We'll be waiting for you little abomination." One of them took out an orb and spoke a single word in a language Everto didn't know, causing all three to disappear.

Everto started to grind his teeth and growl like a feral beast, he turned to Priscilla, "Where is the lab, where are those paladins hiding? I will burn their bodies beyond that of ashes, there will be nothing left." His gauntlets became tipped like claws as he started to roll his shoulders, his eyes showing his anger and hatred, he was ready to start casting spells at a moment's notice, and he would rip apart every paladin of the order before the day was out.
