| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

The sun filtered down between the trees, but it was still a little too bright for her. She had been underground for too long and the light stung her eyes. She stumbled across the uneven ground, letting her long braids hide her face, and the light from her eyes. Anyone who knew her would probably not recognize her. She had grown thin and was dressed in a loose fitting shirt and pants smudged with ash, dirt, cobwebs, and candle wax. Parts had been torn and some even singed. Her right hand hung like a dead weight by her side, as if the bracelet on that wrist weighed a ton. Her left hand moved in front, finding trees and slowly navigating around them. Brushing past branches and leaves. She had no idea where she was going, or why. It was just something. Something was urging her to keep going. She moved one bare foot ahead of the other and hoped darkness would fall soon so she could see better. |

She had no idea why she had ventured into this forest. It seemed to be a good idea at the time, but she couldn’t stop herself from running. She was thankful for the sunlight right now, because otherwise she would not be able to see very well at all. Her long ears were perked up listening to everything around her, and her eyes were darting all around. She had encountered some insane druids and she was trying to avoid seeing them again. She was in her hare hybrid form, standing at 5’10”. She looked similar to a rabbit furry, except she was actually a hare, which made her look not-so-cute-and-cuddly. She naturally looked like she was in a continuous panic. She couldn’t wear any footwear, because of the way her “feet” were shaped, but she was very glad that she was able to find some semi-nice clothing to wear over herself. Running through the trees without much attention to where she was going, she suddenly found herself in the company of somebody else. She stopped dead in her tracks and froze, her eyes widened and then glued themselves on this stranger. She couldn’t understand why she was hiding her face, but she really hoped that she wouldn’t suddenly lunge at her with some sort of weapon that could possibly injure her really badly or possibly kill her. She jumped when she heard movement behind her, and then asked the stranger hiding her face, “Hey, do you mind helping me out for a minute? Because there’s something chasing me and I don’t know what it is, but I didn’t do anything wrong. They just decided that I would make a good meal, I guess, and they started chasing me like cavemen fighting for their last meal, and I’m really freaked out now, because I don’t know how to protect myself that well, especially not against people like that, and I’m just trying to find my way out of this forest so that they won’t keep chasing me, but it’s like a maze here, I can’t retrace my steps, so I don’t know what to do.....” she would continue to keep ranting about how some crazy group of animal-people were chasing her, unless the stranger cut her off to say something... |

The sound of... something? drew her attention away from herself. She came to a stop with her hand flat against a tree as the creature started ranting. She wasn't sure what it was and in all truth she was not very inclined to help it. However, her curiosity wanted to know more and part of her wondered if this was part of what had urged her from her solitude. She removed her left hand from the tree and moved some off her hair aside, wincing some and squinting in the light. It looked... like a big rabbit? or something? It kept talking and when it went to take a breath AD interrupted, "Enough, please. If you want to not be found, you must first be quiet. I'll see if I can help. Hide behind this tree and don't move or speak." If first impressions mean anything, she doubted this creature could do either of her requests, but in all truth, there was little she could do about it right now. She did hear whoever or whatever it was that was following it. She? He? That would be a question for later. Now she was finally finding something. Part of her hoped it was what ever brought her out here. Another part hopped it wouldn't be something so mundane. |

She immediately stopped talking when the stranger spoke. One ear turned toward her for a moment before turning around to listen to her pursuers again. When she told her that she should be quiet and hide behind the tree, she leapt at the tree she was talking about, and stood behind there, waiting impatiently. It was impossible for her to stay still for any period of time. It was also impossible for her to stay quiet. “AHHH!” she screamed suddenly, as a small branch poked at her side. She spun around to see what it was, and then sighed in relief when she saw that it was just a branch. She snapped the tiny branch off of the larger one it was attached to so that it wouldn’t poke her again. Her attention went back to her pursuers now that they were getting much closer now. It didn’t take long before they came into eyesight. It was a group of five druids, one in the lead obviously being the leader. They slowed their pace as they strode up to the long-haired stranger. “Where is that brat?” the leader asked, We’ve got a bone to pick with her!” Unbeknownst to the druids, Coco had actually stolen something of theirs. All they knew was that one of their kin was terribly upset about their garden being disturbed. The hare hybrid would never speak of what she had stolen. ”There!” one of them spotted her peeking around the tree. Her eyes widened immediately, and her ears lowered to rest against her head and neck. “All I did was look around! It was a very pretty garden!” she said, trying to get them to back off. However, it only seemed to make them even more upset. ”Who are you? The lead druid looked at the long-haired stranger. ”Do you know this pest?” |

Aether Draka smiled slightly as her first reaction to the creature seemed to prove right. However, a valiant effort to do as told anyways. She let her gaze shift slowly from one druid to the other as they broke from the underbrush. "This being is under my protection, yes." AD said, not because of any like for the odd creature, but more for a dislike of the attitude the druids. "So I am afraid you will have to call an end to your hunt now. Though we can do this the hard way if you wish to argue an Archmage." She didn't care if she looked like a mage or not. She didn't try to look like anything in particular. She wore what she liked and right now she was being too lazy to care how she looked. She had been working before coming out here. Now she wanted them to go away. Hidden by her sleeve, she had drawn a card from the small pouch hidden under her shirt at the small of her back. She held the summoning card so it couldn't be seen, but was ready to use it should they really think they could best her. |

She felt like laughing when the stranger said that she was under her protection, but somehow she managed to hold back. She watched closely, ready to run at the slightest hint of an attack. When the stranger challenged them, though, the leader gave a bored expression and said ”No. She’s not worth that much trouble.” With that said, the five of them turned around and went on their way. The hare was not sure what to think about this. It seemed too simple.... It seemed too quick of a solution for them to leave her alone for good. She was sure that they would try to find her again. They always do. After they left, she shapeshifted into her hare form, and started bouncing happily around the stranger. In this form, she only stood about thirty inches tall standing on her hind feet. After a couple minutes of bouncing around, she stood upon a nearby boulder and faced the stranger. “Thank you.” She said, in the same voice as she had in her other form. “I appreciate you getting rid of them for me. They seemed much too obnoxious to have any tea.” She giggled, imagining the five druids all dressed up in skirts, holding little tea cups. She only laughed harder when the daydream continued and created little holes in their tea cups. Their confused faces made her face light up as if she was just offered an entire garden full of vegetables. She seemed to be in her own little world at the moment, laughing so hard. |

"You may not want to thank me just yet. I'm probably more dangerous then any of them. Also, you may want to return to your larger shape for now. I used to hunt rabbit when I was younger and it was one of my favorite foods." AD left off the part about eating them raw because she hadn't know how to start a fire back then either and therefore couldn't cook anything. She shifted her weight away from the tree and listened for a moment to see if she could hear the strangers. She didn't think they were completely done yet. She kept the card hidden by her sleeve in her hand and started forward on her previous path. "You can stay with me for a bit if you like though. I'm not inclined to eat anything." She shook her head. "I am a little curious as to why you even asked me for help. Do I really look like the person to give help?" How she was dressed made her seem more like a homeless beggar, but the way she stood and moved was relaxed and easy, though a bit unusual because she was intentionally blocking the light from reaching her eyes. |

Upon hearing that rabbit was one of the stranger’s favourite foods, she shifted back to her hybrid form. She had to say, though, “I’m not a rabbit, though, I’m a hare. I’m sure I would taste much tougher than a rabbit would. I don’t understand why you would ever want to eat me, though. I would probably taste too sweet. Lots of sugar, made sure of that. Lots of tea. Tea is always good.” She said, making sure that she understood that she was, in fact, not a rabbit. It wasn’t insulting, but it was not the best compliment out there either. “Oh! Goodie!” she smiled brightly when she said that she could stay with her. “Are you going anywhere in particular? Anywhere that we could find some hats, maybe? Hats are always nice... or maybe little leverets. They’re so adorable.” Then, the last question came back into her head. Why did she ask for help, anyway? She could have just kept running. Perhaps it was the feeling that this stranger did not feel like killing her, that tempted her to ask for help. It wasn’t very often that she asked for help, but she usually got a friend out of it. Her mind was racing as quickly as it could, thinking of ways to respond to the question. It was simple enough, but maybe she wanted to answer in such a way that would not trigger the stranger to act harmful against her in any way. She didn’t know her well enough to really say that she wasn’t harmful, but she used her words before she used her actions. That alone, told Coco that she had trust potential, or potential of being trusted on her part. She was excited to see where this adventure would take her next. “Well, it could have been easy enough to just keep running, but I like having people to talk to. I’m not familiar with this forest, and I was hoping that you were. You look like somebody that is not openly harmful, I guess.” She said, giving the stranger a sideways glance while she tilted her head to one side. She leaned in close for just a second, and whispered, “I was right.” |

She was a little sad, as it appeared the creature didn't know the game of questions. Aether Draka gave a small shrug. "Fair enough. I am not going any place in particular right now. More of a direction. I do know the forests well enough I suppose. I hadn't ever thought of it before. My home is in the forests after all." She suddenly turned to the left and went that way for about five paces before returning to her previous course. She was listening for someone following them. She didn't hear anything in particular. Just the buzzing of the bees or wasps she didn't feel like getting too close to. "If I don't find anything in a little bit, perhaps we could visit a city. There is one I particularly like. It is called Cascadia. Have you ever seen it?" |

“Your home is in the forests?” she repeated, seemingly amazed by this fact. “So you’d be able to-“ she suddenly cut herself off as she looked around, thinking she saw something in the corner of her eye. When the coast was clear, she turned back to the stranger and continued, “You’d be able to get us out of here no problem, then? That’s good. That’s really good. I can’t stand being in here, around all these crazy people, you know? Earlier, I didn’t know there were people that wanted to kill me in here. If I knew that, I would have stayed far away from here. I don’t like it when people try to kill me... It’s not very fun.” She fell silent for a little while, thinking back to one time when a wolf had tried to catch her for dinner. He tricked her into thinking that he was actually interested in drinking tea with her, but in reality, he was just really hungry. She can’t help but feel paranoid when so many people and creatures out there enjoy the taste of rabbit. They all assume that rabbits and hares taste the same. Once the flashback was finished, she leapt over to where the stranger was walking, and followed close behind her, her paw prints making little to no noise. “A city? I’ve never even heard of Cascadia. I’m still fairly new to this world, but I would be glad to travel with you there. Is the community nice? Is it pretty there?” she wondered, hoping there wasn’t much forestry there for her to get lost in again. She especially hoped that nobody would try to meet her for dinner. “Why do you particularly like that place?” she asked, still moving her eyes and ears around so that she knew exactly what was around them at all times. |

After a few more steps she was sure that they were being followed by at least one of the druids. It was a very quiet one, and one careful enough to not be making any noise and to stay well out of sight. She had the feeling he or she was actually following their path and not them directly. "Cascadia is a wonderful city. They like music and dancing and it's very colorful there. I really love their marketplace. It also has an interesting history. You see, the city used to be build along a river and there was a statue on a waterfall. The statue was destroyed by a demon and used as a portal to summon many more demons to attack the city. It was during the annual celebration of Imythess itself. The demons were coming to kill the people celebrating. So a bunch of mages got together and, using magic, they caused the entire city to rise from the ground, higher and higher into the sky. Only the demons who could fly made it anywhere near, and many demons died to falling rocks and other debris. At the city was a Paladin by the name of Rothardan. He faced the demon leading the hoard of lesser demons and won. With their summoner slayed, the other demons lost their nerve and fled." She stopped walking and looked up to the sky, her braids falling back from her face as she squinted to see if there was anything up there. "It still floats up there in the sky, over a huge lake that filled in the hole where the city once stood." AD sighed, closing her eyes for a moment. The light was hurting less and less. Perhaps she wouldn't have to wait for night. She then lowered her head and let her gaze fall back to the hare. |

The hare nodded along as she listened to her story about why she liked Cascadia, and about the history of the city. “Wow, really? How high does it float? How do you get up there if you can’t fly?” she wondered, freezing in her tracks when she saw the stranger stop to look up at the sky. She followed suit and looked up as well, not having as hard of a time as she was because her eyes enjoyed the sunlight and were not bothered by it. “Hey, what’s your name? Am I allowed to know, or am I calling you my little purple teacup?” she asked, not being serious about calling her ‘her little purple teacup’. They were only a couple of inches difference in height, so the stranger didn’t fit the description at all... except maybe, the fact that her hair was purple... She didn’t mean the name in any harmful way, she was just curious about what her name was. If they were travelling together, should they not know each others’ names? The hare tried to be patient about it, and waited for her response. It wasn’t every day that she came across such friendly people, so she wanted to make sure that she didn’t take the wrong step, or say the wrong word. After all, people were very difficult to read at times (especially when you just met them) so she didn’t want to do anything that might set her off, or make her decide to be an enemy instead... |

AD smiled. She may have found a way to get the game of questions started after all. It was one of her favorite games. "I'm not exactly sure how high it is. I'm sure someone there knows. I know a secret portal that can take us there if you like. It's not far from here." She didn't actually know a secret portal, just a way to get there very quickly. The best way to explain it was a portal though. Shadowjumping with a person was not hard but it could scare a person if they didn't know it would happen. Calling it a portal gave the expectation of teleporting, which made them less fearful. "You can call me AD. Most people do. What are you called?" She normally didn't give any name unless asked. She didn't really like the name Aether Draka. She felt that it's meaning was stupid and didn't like it being applied to her. What sort of name is "Heaven's Dragon" anyway? Stupid name for anyone. She had no idea what she would change it to if she did though. |

Her face filled with worry when she spoke about a secret portal. Secrets weren’t normally good to be around. On top of that, she had a tendency to tell others about any secrets she found out about. She wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to see this secret portal. It could cause a lot of trouble, if Coco had anything to do with it. “I think it would be safer to just... not use the secret portal.” She said, hoping that AD would not get upset. “I know that it’ll be quicker, but I’m not in any rush. Maybe I can meet you there. I’ll find my way there eventually, you know. If I’m meant to go, then I’ll get there somehow, someday.” She tried to take a deep breath, but her paranoia didn’t let her just yet. If she breathed too loudly or too heavily, anything could happen. Anything bad could happen. She had to take every precaution to make sure those druids did not come back. She couldn’t help but wonder what AD stood for, but she didn’t want to ask, just in case it was something that she didn’t want to share. She was sure there was some sort of reasoning behind calling her by the initials, instead of her full/first name. “I’m called crazy most of the time...” she answered, pausing for a moment to realize that she was actually asking for her name. “But you can call me Coco... Normally, the ones that call me crazy don’t really get along with me. Or, I don’t get along with them. Either way, I end up getting called mad, or crazy, or insane, or a lunatic. Same difference to me, though, it’s not my fault that people can’t just look passed certain... traits of mine. Unstable, is another one. I haven’t met anybody that’s more unstable than me, though, so-“ she cut herself off and stopped in her tracks as she caught something in the corner of her eye moving. “What was that? Did you see that?” she whispered, waiting to see if she could see the movement again. She didn’t believe in illusions, mirages or delusions so she expected that the movement would occur again. Then, moments later, she saw somebody jump from behind one tree to behind another tree. She couldn’t catch whether it was one of the animal-people or not, but they currently posed as a threat and that’s all that mattered. She had to escape the threat somehow. Hopefully this time, she’d have a better chance with AD standing with her. She remained standing still, closely watching the tree that she saw the stranger jump behind. |

Aether Draka saw the person shifting between the trees. She leaned towards Coco and said in a soft whisper. "It's not really a secret portal, just a teleportation spell. It's either that or fly up there somehow. I only said is was a portal to stall our unwelcome guest into looking for it instead of going straght to Cascadia after us." It was true enough... She didn't want to go into how she learned the spell and that it was part of her Shadowdancer training. Perhaps her being an Archmage was reason enough? She returned her voice back to it's normal tone before continuing. "See what? Are they still following us? Perhaps it's not a good idea to stay here..." She waited to see if there was really any major objections to going to Cascadia first. If Coco didn't object to the idea too much, AD would take her arm and move quickly over to the shadow of the nearest tree. Once in the shadows, she would wrap them both quickly in darkness before teleporting them both out of the forest completely. |
