| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

This was the day. She was going to escape TODAY. For the last few days she had been hoarding sheets, rope, or any other climbing device she could find. Taking a few moments she tied them all together and put one of her bed sheets around her waist. Taking one look out the window she felt dizzy. It was high. Really high. And the guards were still down there as alert as ever. Reaching for two heavy pots she prayed she didn't miss. The pots whizzed through the air and CRACKED with a loud noise on the heads of the guards. Smiling she didn't waste anytime to swallow her fear hoist herself onto the wall and the other side of the window. Within moments she was running. Running through the forest, running away from her tall prison. Ashleigh kept on running, not noticing as the Ash Trees in the forest reached for her as she ran, their branches becoming stronger, and her own skin becoming quite an unusual color, just for a moment or two. Finally she caught her breath. In the moment of silence she found from the forest she heard a musical instrument. It sounded like what she would have guessed was a flute from her old world. Furrowing her brow she went to investigate. She could hear herself getting closer and closer to the source of the music and hunched in the bushes the moment that she saw a man. Playing rather expertly but she didn't know that she could trust him. She couldn't trust anyone here!! But she was of course very klutzy and found herself falling forward and onto her face right in front of him. |

Shan relaxed after hours of traveling, resting on a fallen log and playing his violin. He should possibly be more afraid, considering the wild animals and various villains he'd run into below these trees. However, he continued holding onto a personal belief that, as long as he could play his violin, he'd be perfectly fine. Reality proved that wrong on several occasions in the past, but he needed practice, and the music kept wild animals from attacking, which was a bonus. A wild crashing sound through the brush made him lower the volume of his violin to better listen. It didn't seem like someone trying to move stealthily, and it definitely didn't sound like someone used to moving through the trees. Wonder what it is? his curiosity asked as his suspicions rose and fell. His various theories all collapsed at once, around the same time the dark hair stranger in a floofy pink dress collapsed in front of him. Oh, hey! It's a girl! his curiosity said. Wonder who she is? She's...not from around here, is she? his common said said. I mean, that dress would fit in if we were in the more highbrow areas of Cascadia, but only someone idiotic or desperate would try running through bushes, thorns, burrs, and trees in something like that. "Hey, are you alright?" Shan said, putting down his violin and kneeling next to her. "You look rather lost, if I may say so." IT'S NOT GEHRIN! Shan's paranoia shouted. We are not jumping about afraid everyone we meet is that slaver Not Gehrin, Shan's second thoughts moaned. Besides, I really don't see him dressing like that just to trick us. "My name is Shan. Are you hurt?" |

Immediately he introduced himself. She wasn't quite sure what to do. There were two options that could be followed. Firstly, she could be haughty and arrogant and pretend like he should know exactly who she was. After all, in her new life in this world she intended to be rich and well-known. Not some poor girl stuck in a tower and completely vulnerable. OR She could beg him for help. How did she live on this planet as, pretty much an orphan. In her last world she could get a job, work, and live. She didn't know what she was supposed to do here. Plus, there seemed to be magic, which complicated things far more than they should be. So for the moment she stood like a mute doing nothing and saying nothing. But, she was finally able to choke out her name. "Ashleigh. Nice to meet you Shan." Then, she decided to take a leap of faith. "No, I'm not injured. I.... I ran away from someone that was keeping me ho- well. It's a long story. But, I need your help." She said letting her hands fall to the sides. |

"My help?" Shan asked. He felt his chivalrous side rear its head at the sight of a lady in distress, but it would be best to find out more about what she was expecting him to deal with, and how, and if this was all an elaborate scheme for whatever reason. "Well, I'm just a bard, so, well, bard's aren't typically known for being fighters, so I hope that's not what you mean." He stood up and looked her over. She didn't seem to have been maltreated, at least, except perhaps emotionally. Her dress was of a style he'd never seen before. Perhaps she was from Cascadia and that was the latest fashion, or if could be a fashion from long ago, perhaps as long past as last year. He didn't recognize the material, either. It wasn't silk, and seemed to matte for satin. She is, however, in great distress, his chivalrous nature said. Shan didn't know why it got so protective of women, especially considering the ones he grew up with. "But, if you need help escaping, I know these woods pretty well, and can at least get you to the next town, if need be. Don't worry. I'll do my best to make sure no one takes you anywhere against your will." He looked up at the sound of more crashing through the underbrush. "However, right now, it might be best if we move. I wish we had time to get you out of that ridiculous dress. Come on," he said, holding out his hand for her so he could lead the way. He didn't know what was approaching, but considering he had a fugitive of sorts, it didn't take much imagination to suppose it was someone after her. |

Oh no! They were already coming. No time for explanations and no time for decency. They needed to high tail it out of there. Slipping out of her dress and into just her slip and coreset-esque bra from her time she ditched the dress and held onto his extended hand before running. He surly knew the forest much more than she and therefore she trusted him to guide her. But as they ran the forest had other plans. Ash trees were grasping at her arms, the roots lifting from the ground where she ran. It was becoming quite ridiculous. She had ditched her dress for this very reason. Looking desperately up at Shan she noticed the noise had died off and the trees were still acting wonky. "I need your help Shan, I don't need you to beat anyone up or anything but... I don't get how things work for you guys. I don't... I'm not from... just help me understand how to survive here." She said, not really sure how to say that she was from another dimension where she was a woraholic. Absentmindedly she swatted yet another branch that seemed to be in her way. |

"Um, us guys?" Shan said, stopping in a small clearing and looking at the moving forest in confusion. He'd encountered animal plantlife before, but it was a single tree commanded by a homicidal marsh rat person. It sounded like they'd escaped their pursuit for now, thanks his his quick footwork and Ashleigh's quick escape from her dress. She did get out of that pretty fast... Shut up, Id, Shan's chivalry said. "We...um, is this the time to be talking about that sort of thing? I mean, for right now girls and guys are basically the same, and I don't feel comfortable bringing up the facts of life with you while you're dressed so...skimpily." He slung his bag off his shoulder and rested his violin on the ground, rooting about inside. "So, um...do you have some sort of plant affinity I should know about? I mean, I can serenade animals, but plants are another story, and they..." he watched as a stem began to wrap around Ashleigh's ankle. "really seem animated around you." He found what he was looking for. "Here. It's some of my spare clothes. I mean, they're going to be a bit long, I guess, and they're kinda wrinkled and old and...not as frilly as you're probably used to, but they're clean and are probably warmer than that underdress thing you're wearing." Awww, don't make her get dressed... Id, seriously, be silent, said his chivalry. |

"Well, I don't really care how I'm dressed I would like to know now!" Ashleigh suddenly realized how demanding she must have sounded. She sighed. "Listen, I... I need help no matter how i'm dressed. So, I would rather you just tell me whether I'm cold and scantily clad or not. Please?" He really was being a gentleman. She could tell he was genuine and didn't feel any bad vibes coming off him. Though, she could tell her in a skirt did make him a little flustered. Obviously things like this didn't happen every day here. The trees were acting a little more than odd. She shook a branch off her ankle and was shocked to hear that he thought she ahd any kind of magic at all. "Oh, no! No, I don't i'm not." *yank* "Very much" *tug* "Of an outdoors person!" *snap!* the twig finally let go and she stared down at the tree branches in awe; not even noticing her skin steadily changing to a sparkling green. Slowly but steadily. She looked at the clothes and smiled. "Uhm..." She wore the shirt and quickly noticed it was more like a dress. "The shirt is enough... thanks." |

"You...you, um, really don't know?" Shan said, his face blushing. "Um...I would have thought your mother or something would have said something, um, about that...and with you trying to escape..." He fiddled with the pants, wondering why Ashleigh, after escaping who knows who and now suddenly being a plant magnet in the middle of the forest when she hadn't gotten out of whatever city she was from before to ever encounter that sort of talent, assuming she had it before. However, she did seem insistent about it, even yelling that, yes, she did want to know. He supposed she could have demanded such a thing from a more unsavory character... "Okay, well, um..." Shan said. "You see, men and women are very similar yes, but, um, they have different...parts...than girls do to deliver...um...for ferilization, and they reach an age that, I'm guessing, you've gone through, that they're bodies change and they mature and develop in different ways. I'm guessing you already know about changes that women go through in puberty, being one yourself, and guys, well, increase muscle mass..." Shan stared at his own scrawny stick arms. "...on average, and get taller, have increased hair growth, and, um...sexual drive...Not saying that I want to have sex with you. Not saying you aren't pretty and maybe at some point when we're not running through the woods and escaping from whatever's chasing you and you would like that sort of thing...I mean...um...." He heard his Id laughing its damned head off. "I'm sorry, I'm not explaining this well, am I? Maybe if you told me, well, why you wanted to know and..." A sudden though shot through Shan's mind, freezing him on the spot. "Ashleigh, did...did the person that your escaping from...Did he...do anything...touch you in a way that made you feel...uncomfortable...or, um, hurt you in some way? Is that why you're asking about guys?" |

Ashleigh couldn't believe it. She was getting the SEX talk from a STRANGER. That isn't what she wanted to know at all! She wanted to know about their culture. Not about how people came to being. So, for moments she just stood. Watching the train wreck as it happened. He found her attractive other wise he wouldn't be stammering so much or have accidentally insinuated he wanted to have sex with her. Finally she got enough movement back to slap him upside the head. "I didn't need the sex talk! I need to know how society works. Should I go out and get a job? Should I become a maid? How do I become a noble person. THAT sort of thing." Smiling she took it upon herself to make him even more uncomfortable. Smiling she walked forward and came dangerously close to his lips where she stood. "If I wanted that explained to me I would have asked for a demonstration, not a jumbled mess of confused words." She said, her breath on his face. Small, and only a few nearly invisible flecks of green glitter were left on his chin from where she was breathing before she backed away after having felt satisfied he was crawling clean out of his skin of embarrassment. "So, tell me about your culture." |

"I...um...er...um..." Shan said, not even daring to look at Ashleigh as his face turned bright crimson. If she wanted to know she'd ask for a demonstration? Who just comes out and says that? Rather forward, isn't she? his second thoughts said. "I...I'm sorry...when you said 'Tell me about you guys,' I thought you meant, well, you wanted to know about 'Guys.' I didn't realize that you were foreign or, well, trapt for so long. I'm sorry. I guess I should have asked for more explanation before I made a fool of myself like that..." He watched the trees waving even more wildly after Ashleigh's outburst. They were definitely reacting to her emotional state. "But, well, that's a rather broad subject to broach, especially considering how many cultures and customs and the like are all around Imythess. I mean, thinks are utterly different in Cascadia than they are in Balefire, and Striberg and Istan might as well be on two different worlds. Even my own home has it's own culture unique to it." He waved aside a tree bough that was getting a bit too close for comfort. "Perhaps we should get moving though, just because of the...flora." He studied the forest around them. All of the plants were moving, straining, waving, reaching out to her. "And while we're moving, could you perhaps tell me any sort of...odd experience you've had around plants, trees, flowers, and the like. This could be some sort of talent that's just manifesting, but it's possible that, well, if you were kept secluded from nature, it's something that you possess that you've never managed to see before because you haven't had such large quantities of plantlife to affect. Is there anything odd you can tell me about? A flower turning its face toward you, berries ripening more quickly when you're around? Anything at all?" |

"That makes things hard. But you can tell right now I don't really fit in... anywhere." A wave of sadness broke over her. She looked slightly too modern, even in her facial features. Though, she was noticing some odd skin discoloration since she got here. And her hair was almost identical to the tree's bark color next to her. Her eyes were bright and she could feel nature. But this she kept to herself. Maybe that's how it was here for everyone. "As for nature only the trees here seem to be acting funny. But everything else. Well, I don't know what isn't considered normal for your realm so it's not a fair question." Which was true. Maybe trees here moved all the time. Who knows? Maybe they did reach out ot people theyw anted to eat or imprison. Though, it made her laugh inwardly how bothered he as by the activity. For some reason it felt natural... like it was a part of her. "Then tell me, please, where do I look most like I belong." She stood, 5'8 tall, deep brown hair, slightly green sparkly skin and in his over sized shirt. Her body was very thin, breakable looking but still beautiful. Her eyes were big and electric olive green. Her lips somehow were lovely even though they were close to the same shade as her skin. |

"Trees moving about on their own and getting excited when you do isn't normal," Shan said to Ashleigh as they walked. "As for where you look like you belong..." he hadn't wanted to mention it to her, since it was possible it was something she knew about herself, but she was looking rather green. Not in the sense of she looked nauseous or sick. It was a bright, vibrant green that spread all over her and even reached her eyes. Even her hair matched the natural color of tree bark. "Well, I'm not sure. My instincts says, 'Here,' but you said yourself you aren't one for the country. It shouldn't make a difference where you look like you belong, anyway. It's more about what you want to do, but you don't know that either." They broke through the trees and found themselves at a large, still lake Shan had learned was Norwood Lake. It was as good a place to stop as any. "Let's sit down a bit and try to figure this out." He led Ashleigh over to a flat stone near the lakeside that'd probably served as a seat for centuries before their arrival. "Now," he said, "It's obvious that there's something more going on than what you're telling me. Ashleigh, if you really want my help, you're going to have to trust me enough to tell me what happened to you, and I mean all of it. Probably you feel some of it is too outlandish and I won't believe it, but I want you to tell me anyway. I'm a bard, so I'm used to hearing about the absurd, and I can't aid you if I don't know what I'm aiding you with. "Perhaps, then, you could begin by sharing where on Chaon you're actually from, because I rather doubt Imythess is your nation of birth." |

Imythess and Chaon. These names were starting to get her slightly tongue tied and she looked at him with a dumb look for a moment or two. He thought he knew outlandish... but now he was going to hear something to top the books. "I have no idea what Chaon is. I think i'm sort of from a different dimension." She said, pausing for a moment before continuing in a torrent of words that she hoped would give him some insight into what she needed help with. Which was general social behavior and living. "I'm from this place called America. And... in this place there is no magic, everyone is human and are light or dark or copper skinned. I met a guy here that was blue... that is NOT normal where i'm from. And.. our buildings are made out of metal not wood.. annddd I used to be a rich worker who made art" she thought of a way to explain her job but found it rather difficult. "I made art for publications that were made to advertise fashion? Anyways. I was in a hedge maze in this park I was visiting and I passed out in the middle of the hedge maze and ended up... well... here." She said, hoping he wouldn't abandon her. "In fact my world is very much ahead of yours. In my world your time period is centuries old. So for me it's like going back thousands of years to be here... Anyways. I got dropped here and a man with the power of ice found me and taught me a few things about this place. And in return I owed him a favor. But he kept me in the tower until he could figure out exactly what the favor was to be. And here I am." Sighing she tried further to explain herself. "I have a good idea of how things work from what he told me... but I don't know what to do now that I've escaped." As to her green skin she had no idea it was only getting greener by ever passing minute, sparkling flecks beginning to dust her cheeks. The lake was medium sized and the trees didn't seem quite as vicious when she was out of reach. |

OOC: Sorry, wrong profile... "Alright," Shan said, processing Ashleigh's abridged tale, "At least we've confirmed your skin isn't normally green." That green skin was spreading the more she spoke. With that and how the trees seemed to react to her without her knowing any sort of nature spells or floramancy, he would have guessed some sort of nature spirit, like a dryad or nymph, except she'd also confirmed she was human. At least, back in "a Merica" she was. "And there is something odd that's happened to you involving plants: that hedge maze," Shan said switching to thinking aloud and hoping that did get him into more awkwardness. "Did you happen to land in a hedge maze around here? That would be helpful. Hmmm," He thought, drumming his fingers. He needed a boost in thoughtpower. Forgetting who he was with or that he left his violin back in the clearing, he summoned his violin to his hand and began to play, modifying the tune slightly so that he could focus his mind and draw out all the tiny bits of lore his mind had squirreled away but forgotten. "Thinking aloud..." he began, his eyes shut as he played and thought, "And, simply going from a bardic standpoint. We can figure out the facts of it after we've laid out the tale...We have a case of traveling between worlds. Somehow you walking the maze that night allowed you to cross whatever paperthin barrier there is between Chaon and your 'Merica.' Is it common for people to vanish in that maze? Was there any special event, either manmade or natural or celestial happening that night? Do you remember what phase the moon, or, well, moons were in?" He gave a soft cough, clearing his throat. "I realize these all sound like odd questions, but, really, the best place for you is your own world. It's a possibility we could puzzle out how you came to be here and replicate it to return you home. If not, well, Cascadia always has a place for a budding artist. Even a green one." He thought on that last point. "In fact, if you sell it right, you could become popular because you're green." Edited by Emery, Tue Dec 27, 2011 6:26 pm.

Hardly paying attention to any of his other words her eyes went wide when he spoke. SHE WAS GREEN?! After he was done speaking she let out a loud scream. No, no no no no no she was NOT green. She ran over to the pool of water and looked at her reflection as best she could. Yup. Green. Not sick green but sparkly and green. She screamed again. This wasn't happening. This world was making her sick, it could be killing her, it could bechaning her. Running back she shook the mans shoulders. "WHY AM I GREEN!? What is your world doing to me" Out of no where a stick seemed to hurl toward the back of Shans head. "You make me a human with fairly light olive skin right now or so help me!" She knew he couldn't. But yelling still made her feel better. Maybe she could find a way home. But she highly doubted it. "And it's A-mer-Eh-KA, not Merica. America." She stood up and began to pace. She was green and freaking out. "No, it's just a stupid hedge maze people goofed off there all the time. And the one moon we have, one. Was in the phase where there is only one sliver left before it turns into a new moon. It's the same moon phase I was born on." She said. |
