| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Hide. Where to hide? How to hide? Evals looked around with slight panic, the night was draining her and she was getting tired. This didn't help her try and find a place to hide at all. The children were just coming into the room. The girl stood there with a Deer in lamplights look. One of the presents that Shan had already handed her in between her gloved palms. Mouth slightly a gap with mental confusion. What was she supposed to do in this situation? Looking around she couldn't see where Shan was but her eyes fixed in on his location from where small vibrations in the floor told her where he was standing. When the children poured into the room, Evals returned her attention to them and took a hesitant step back. She was then swarmed with a barrage of talking and questions. Not all of them directed at her. "The Red Rogue is a girl?" "She can't be older than us." "Are you the Red Rogue?" "Who's that present for?" "She's wearing a red coat!" "How did she get in?" "What's your name?" "Are there any other presents?" "How did you get in?" "How long are you going to stay?" "What kind of magic do you know?" Evals recoiled at a few of them touching her, mostly to feel her coat or to grab the present, which she lifted away from them when they got near it. What was she supposed to do? |

[removed]! Guess we really should assume Emily has a certain set of powers in the future, Shan's inner critic said, cursing at the sudden turn of events. Emily stood in her red coat lined with white fur, holding a present that obviously didn't come from this house, surrounded by Clarence, Timothy, Varity, and Stacia Wannemacher, all grabbing and questioning the panicked looking Emily, raising the present above her head and looking about in confusion. Shan wasn't certain what the official Red Rogue did in these sorts of situations, but he guessed that rule one with this sort of thing was "Don't Let It Happen." Now that it had....well...Shan had to do something. Emily was, for all intents and purposes, just a young girl. He had to keep that in his mind as long as she was hiding out in this form. It was up to him to somehow extract themselves before the calling of the children woke up their parents while keeping his true identity a secret and not ruining the idea of the Red Rogue for the children. Well, that sounds easy enough, his inner critic said. All you need to do is pull off a Midwinter Miracle. Simple. He could really do without the self-inflicted sarcasm, Shan decided. He pulled up the hood on his coat, hiding his auburn hair and face as best he could, and stepped forward. Now, how would the Red Rogue act? Not the actual Rogue, the persona. All the Wannemachers were "nice" so...Happy, Cheerful, Jolly was the word. Yes, Jolly and Joyful, with a deep voice and belly laugh. Too bad Shan was far closer to a tenor. He'd have to wing it. "Hah, hah, hah!" Shan laughed, stepping clear of the shadows, seeming to appear from nothing to the gasping children's eyes. "I see you've caught little Twinklebell, dear children. She's one of the little fairies that helps me on my rounds on this night, though, as you can see, she still needs a lot of practice when it comes to evading clever children," Shan said, deepening his voice and praying Emily wouldn't kill him on the spot for the story he was weaving. "...Are you really the Red Rogue?" Clarence, who looked about eightish and sounding quite wavering in his belief. "Indeed, Clarence, I am," Shan said from under his hood. "The Red Rogue of Midwinter's Eve." "How'd you know my name?" "Do you know my name?" a bright eyed girl of about six asked, her words whistling a bit from a missing tooth. "Indeed I do, Stacia. I know all your names. Yes, even you, Varity," he said, turning his gaze to the distrustful look of the eldest girl, who looked around eleven. "You could have learned that anywhere," Varity said. "I bet you're just a phony here to rob us." "Hmmm, seems I don't recall stealing from children who have been good all year," Shan said, holding onto his jolly persona. "Children who do well in school and listen to their parents and eat at least some of their vegetables. In fact, for good children," Shan reached into his bag and pulled out a package, wrapped in striped paper and matching bow, "I believe they get a reward." Varity might have been skeptical, but a free gift was still a gift, and she took it with a waver of confusion. "Do I get a gift, too?" said Timothy, who looked to be a twin of Stacia's. "Yes, Timmy, you all do," Shan said, pulling his conjuring trick again to reveal too identical looking boxes, one with a green theme and one with a red, and handing them to Stacia and Timothy. "And I believe Twinklebell has your gift, Clarence." "Do more magic, Red Rogue! Do more magic!" Stacia and Timothy said in unrehearsed unison. "Well, maybe just a little more," Shan said, shifting his hands through the air with a practiced flair, suddenly holding his violin and bow. Even Varity clapped at that. Shan smiled and began to play. It was the same tune he'd played on the streets when he met Emily, but now he laced it with the same spell that brought down the Grinch forces. He planned to use it a bit more benevolently, however. "Now, Timothy, Varity, Stacia, and Clarence," Shan said, his voice low and the music soft, certain they were under the spell. "Take your gifts and go to bed. Settle in, and sleep again. In the morning, whether you think it real or just a dream, remember this as the wonderful night you met the Red Rogue." He hoped it worked, or at least that the parents were still asleep. If they were up, this would get messy very quickly. |
