Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Vyse did not ride Umbriel this day, instead she was back in Cascadia, he had let Umbriel out to do as she pleased for a while, letting her roam for weeks, but she had only just showed signs of being pregnant before starting to give birth, now she was taking care of her newborn cub in Cascadia, he had loathed the idea of wandering away from her, but it was imperative he went to Norwood village, they apparently had troubles with some kind of mass hallucinations, he was supposed to go there with a few others, but they had left before him and he was supposed to follow, they were probably dealing with the epidemic quickly enough, after all it was supposedly just a drug someone was putting into water.

The snow crunched beneath his boots as he looked at the snow covered trees, it was beautiful, though he knew there was still much danger in the woods. At times he could hear giggling in the forest, whenever he heard them he quickened his steps. The giggles to him sounded disturbed and perverse, as if twisted with hate, soon he felt something hit his jacket, he grimaced as he looked down at the thin dart, it hadn't pierced his jacket completely, the tip inside of the fluffy center. He grimaced as he heard the laughter escalate, he set off into a sprint, hoping to outrun his pursuers, if there was one thing he couldn't fight as people who could hide in the shadows and attack calmly. More darts started to fly out from the shadows, snagging into the edges of his coat, a clean hit could mean any number of things, he started to dodge through the trees, hoping out distance his foes and their insidious laughter.

The girl wandered through the snow-dusted forest with an expression of rapt delight. This was her first time seeing the forest in winter, and the frozen precipitation had transformed the surrounding trees into icy sculptures that were stunning in their beauty. Rinrae Dromigg crunched through the snow merrily in her fur-lined boots, staring around the forest in wonder. She had spent time in Norwood before, but it was hard to compare this alien, wintery beauty to the usual lush foliage that filled the region. Her purpose for being here was plain: Rin was the Guardian of the Grand Grimoire, and she sense that one of its pages was hidden away within the woodlands. She had been created by the sentient tome in order to hunt down and reclaim its lost pages, a duty she performed with an almost frightening amount of enthusiasm. So she crunched down the path towards Norwood Village, slowly but surely making her way towards the location of the next page.

The construct saw a bunny scamper off into the trees and giggled, peering into the underbrush to see where it had gone. She was surprised to hear her laughter echoed back at her from the surrounding trees. The expression had been drained of any legitimate humor and replaced with a cruel intonation that set her teeth on edge. Rin straightened, staring around at her surroundings with sharp blue eyes. There was a soft hissing noise to her left, which elicited an almost immediate reaction from Rin. She dropped to the ground, her thick coat and gloves protecting her from the snow as she dropped out of the way. There was a soft thunk! as the dart slammed into a nearby tree trunk, quivering from the force of impact. The construct rolled to one side as she heard the hissing noise again, another one of the small, finger-sized darts striking the snow where she had fallen.

Rin bounced to her feet, a small smile on her face as she scoured the trees for her attacker. An observer might be surprised by her apparent eagerness, but she was no typical mortal. Due to the method of her creation Rin was a literal fighting machine, with a strength, speed, and dexterity that was far superior to a typical human. She displayed this once more as the next dart came zooming out of the trees, actually slapping it out of the way before it could strike her skin. The construct lowered her posture into a fighting stance, eyes flashing from side to side. The sound of footsteps from behind her caused Rin to whirl around in a spray of snow, fingers clenching in preparation for combat. The figure dashing towards her was garbed in a blue jacket, with familiar facial features. The girl’s mouth opened in shock, recognizing the figure in the same instant that one of the darts slammed into her left shoulder.

”…Vyse?” She had only just named the man when her eyes rolled back in her head, the girl’s knees folding as sleep overtook her.

Vyse kept his mad dash through the trees for more then an hour, he was a fast sprinter and his endurance was inhuman by most standards, but after an hour of sprinting he found it hard to breath in the cold air. His ragged breathing only seemed to make the things following him giggle like mad men, more darts missed him by inches, he focused ahead and saw a flash of blond hair, he rushed past trees, hoping it was a foe he could finally fight, not one of the nearly invisible enemies that had been following him, though when he finally got a good look at the person, he recognized her immediately from her movements and her eyes, it was Rin.

He saw her fall, and behind her he could see his foes, fairies or pixies, didn't matter, they were small, flying, and had blowguns. His eyes flashed red as he summoned his rage and bloodwrath. He made it to Rin and drew all two of his blades, using his extra set to pick up Rin, he set off at a run again, his mind partially gone from the Bloodwrath but still there from his berserker rage so he could recognize friend from foe without relying on their scent. He could feel one dart enter his back, finally piercing his coat, while another three buried themselves in his legs, and still two more as he was running hit his arms. He could feel his limbs slowing as his mouth started to foam as more darts buried themselves into his back. He felt his legs and arms go numb as he fell to the side, still protecting Rin as more darts hit him for good measure, Vyse felt his mind go numb as the drug worked through his body, and then only darkness remained.

Vyse felt himself wake up, though he was nowhere he remembered, it was a featureless plain, what had happened... where was he. He looked around and smiled, he saw Umbriel with her three cubs, the baby dire tigers mewled softly as they jumped around and played with their mother. Vyse took a step forward towards them, whistling loudly and yelling, "C'mere Umbriel! Come on!" He saw her look to him and growl, her ears laid back and her fangs bared as her cubs hid behind her, she roared and growled at Vyse, backing off and letting her cubs run away. Vyse stared at her until she left, Vyse felt empty inside as he looked around, Umbriel was gone, though he could see a girl not far away, a girl with golden hair. He called out, "Rin! Over here!" He started off towards Rin, hoping to find out what was going on and where they were.

The construct blearily opened her eyes. She was sure she had fallen asleep on a snowy path in the Norwood Forest, but she had awoken what felt like moments later in a completely foreign environment. It was completely featureless, a blank plane that stretched away from her in every direction. The construct slowly rose to her feet, staring around her for any landmark that would reveal her location. Grimoire? Where is this? Rin waited several long moments for the sentient tome to respond, growing more worried at its silence. The book would often withhold information it felt she did not need to know, but never before had it refused to answer a direct query with at least a denial Grimoire? What is it? What's wrong? There was a trace of confusion in her eyes, but it had not yet blossomed into full-blown panic.

There was a slight sound from behind her and the girl swiveled, staring at the entity that had appeared from nowhere. There were no words to describe it, primarily because it lacked any identifying features to speak of. Its face was a white orb with empty indentations where the eyes should be and a mouth devoid of any teeth. Its limbs and torso were similarly unremarkable, with plain white flesh and no clothes to speak of. Rin was about to ask the odd being what it was when it lunged at her, razor-sharp fangs bursting from its gums as it snapped at the girl. She fell back, slamming one elbow into its sternum to keep it at bay as she reached into her satchel. She drew the hidden longsword in a flash, sinking the blade into the featureless entity's chest.

Her eyes widened as its entire body shivery, transforming in the same instant the tip of the sword pierced its heart. Suddenly she held the frail body of Ezekial Smith, blood staining the strange garments the elderly elf priest always wore. He opened and shut his mouth like a fish out of water, blood bubbling at the corners of his mouth as his life drained away. Rin choked down a sob, gently lowering her friend and mentor to the ground, afraid to pull out her weapon and further harm the man. Yet it was too late. Ezekial was dead before he hit the ground, his blood pooling below his body and staining her gloves and coat. The girl stared at him blankly, desolation written on her face. "Ezekial... No... I left you so you wouldn't die... Wake up Ezekial..."

When she heard Vyse's shout the girl glanced up, tears sparkling in her eyes. More of the plain, empty-faced creatures rose up from the ground, walking slowly towards the pair. Rin did not speak to Vyse, simply shaking her head and turning back to the face of her friend, slowly and reverently closing his eyes.

OOC

Rin's greatest fear is causing the death of her friends, so the entities she's facing will turn into one of her closest companions every time she lands a killing blow. I'm not sure what will happen if Vyse kills one... His blade might just pass through it, or maybe it'll have the same effects! Up to you!

Vyse ran towards Rin as he saw some other creature attack her, it was strange and featureless, but it made an attempt on Rin's life, why else would she bring out her sword. He arrived shortly after he saw it die, he looked down at her crying and he recognized the old man who laid before her, he had met him once before in the Istan Desert, he had helped Vyse solve a rather large and terrible problem, but they had solved it in a way to minimize casualties on both sides. Vyse shook his head, tears welling up in the corners of his own eyes, "Rin... this can't be Zeke can it? I saw some kind of featureless thing attack you... it's not what it appears to be... so please, lets go, I saw Umbriel, but she didn't recognize me, do I look any different?"

Vyse looked down at himself and the only things that had changed were his clothes, a white jacket, black pants, boots, but he couldn't look at his own face... and Rin for some reason looked a lot taller now. He tried to let his extra arms out only to find nothing responding, little did he knoew that he even looked years younger, no scars on his body, no blades on his hips, and finally no power in his limbs. He felt himself already grow tired, why was he feeling so weak, he looked down at Rin, "Come on, lets go, sorry if I sound insensitive, but this place... it's giving me the creeps and I think it's draining my energy, my arms and legs are feeling like lead," He turned in the direction he saw Umbriel run towards and pointed, "Lets head that way, Umbriel was heading in that direction with her cubs." He started walking, his limbs partially dragging behind himself as he moved towards the area, it felt as if his bloodwrath had forced him to go through a Black Out Days, but the lack of vomiting blood and his heart failing him made him discard that idea... right now he had to focus on finding Umbriel.

(OOC:Vyse's greatest fear is being weak, useless, and powerless to help his friends or stop his foes. So Vyse won't be able to hurt the things attacking Rin, or fight at all since he looks like his 16 year old self from the time he killed his Master and learned of how evil his parents are, but during that time he lacked any weapon and strength.)

The berserker-turned-merchant's made sense, but Rin still could not overcome the feeling that she had slain one of her closest friends in Imythess. Every line on the ancient elf's face was exactly as she remembered it, down to the wrinkles around his eyes and mouth from a lifetime of laughter. Still, she slowly rose to her feet, tenderly pulling her sword out of the priest's chest. She looked up at Vyse for the first time and gasped, taking a step back. Something was clearly wrong here. Instead of his normal appearance, he looked to be several years younger, closer to Rin's apparent age. "Vyse.... You're so young. What happened?" His clothes had changed too, his trademark blue jacket replaced by a plain white shirt and black pants. His various weapons were missing as well, a fact that frightened the girl. The merchant was one of the most formidable fighters she had met in her travels, but she had never seen him without at least two or three blades sheathed on his back. "Your weapons... Where are they?"

She began to follow him slowly, her face screwed up in consternation. She had met Vyse's pet dire tigress before, but if she remembered correctly, Umbriel hadn't been with the man on the Norwood Trail. For that matter, where could they be? She didn't feel or look any different, but her companion's appearance had been changed considerably. Furthermore, she didn't know what to make of the strange, featureless beings that surrounded them. They were obviously enemies, but the construct could not eliminate the shock as her blade plunged into Ezekial's flesh, the splash of his warm blood on her hands and the terrible silence after he breathed his last. However, she could not abandon Vyse to them, and when one of the formless white creatures lunged at the boy she stepped forward, whipping her sword around in a brutal arc.

The instant that the blade kissed its neck its appearance changed, turning into another familiar face. RIn's eyes went wide, but it was too late, all of her remarkable strength behind the blow. The longsword cleaved straight through Zaki Kestrel's neck, sending the Istani's head flying in a different direction from her body. Rin choked back a sob as she lowered her weapon, staring in horror at the headless body as it flopped to the ground, the steel plate armor clanking as it struck the ground. She slowly twisted her neck to stare at the woman's head, seeing the scarred features she had come to know and trust. The construct lowered her sword with glacial slowness, tears rolling freely down her cheeks. "Your helmet, Zaki... where was your helmet? You always wear your helmet..." She shook her head wildly as if that would erase the terrible image in front of her, but when she opened her eyes once more Zaki's decapitated head was still staring at her, her features frozen in a grimace of pain.

Rin could feel her hands shaking, but she didn't have the strength to stop the shivering. This can't be real this can't be real this can't be real... She continued to repeat the mantra as she watched the other creatures follows them, dreading what new deaths would be revealed if she struck.

Vyse grimaced when she looked so surprised, he couldn't help but be surprised himself, all of his magical augments were gone, his arms, his draconic might, and his blades were missing. He looked at his hands and saw no scars from years of practice, he could already feel his limbs becoming heavy, how was he already feeling tired, he was only walking. He turned to see Rin slay another of the faceless beings, he recognized the person to, but only from the tournament so long ago and from the word as one of the captains of the Silver Hounds, Zaki Kestrel. He heard Rin cry and slowed his pace, patting her on the shoulder, "Come on... we need to keep on moving... I need a weapon myself if we need to fight."

He grimaced as he heard a familiar growl, he turned to see Umbriel and her three cubs in front of him, as if they had been there all along, they were being harassed by the faceless beings. Vyse turned to Rin, "Please help me save Umbriel... please." He himself ran towards her, his legs barely moving along, his breathing haggard and rapid, Umbriel herself had the cubs beneath her as she lashed out with her claws and fangs at the three faceless beings in front of her. Vyse howled and shouted out at them, only distracting one of them, who turned and rushed Vyse. Vyse couldn't tell if his opponent was moving extremely fast or that he was moving slow... he looked down at his feet and noticed it seemed to take several seconds to even look around, his body seemed to be moving in slow motion, his face went pale as the muscles in his body cried out, just from sprinting his entire body was at it's limits. He stopped and collapsed, breathing heavily, closing his eyes as he realized just how weak he was.

The girl dragged herself forward, forcing herself to tear her eyes away from Zaki's headless body. She could do nothing more to help the Istani monk, and Vyse desperately needed her help. Although she was still in shock from what was happening, there was a small seed of doubt in her mind. Rin knew that both Ezekial and Zaki were formidable fighters, more than capable of defending themselves. Even if she could defeat them in a battle, which was questionable at best, there is no way she could have beat them so easily. Magic might be able to hide their features until after she struck a killing blow, but she didn't think there was any force in Imythess that was strong enough to overpower Zaki Kestrel. She forced herself to stop obsessing over the details, forced herself to focus on their surroundings and what was happening. The featureless beings seemed to be surrounding them in every direction, a legion of featureless creatures that seemed to grow larger every time she looked.

At the mercenary's desperate cry the girl ran forward, planning on rapidly defeating the three creatures surrounding the dire tigress. However, she soon noticed that she was the only one charging forward. She turned to see that Vyse had collapsed on the ground, straining for breath as one of the formless creatures lunged towards him with its maw open. Rin scowled and twirled backwards, spinning rapidly and stabbing the longsword through the being's chest. She wrenched the sword away, turning away as the body of Kalim fell to the ground, his face screwed up in an expression of utter agony. She swallowed the lump in her throat, grabbing Vyse's collar and dragging the mercenary to his feet. "We have to go, Vyse! We have to save Umbriel!"

Rin literally dragged the mysteriously younger merchant behind her as she approached the dire tigress. As soon as she got close enough to the creatures to strike she was forced to drop Vyse, lunging forward. She spun underneath one of their hands, slashing across its torso with so much force it almost cut the thing in half. Tandorous looked down at her in shock as he fell to the ground, blood spreading across his pink shirt. The construct managed to power through the pain, turning to the last formless entity. It fell back from one of Umbriel's attacks, retreating into Rin's path. She ground her teeth together and stabbed it through the neck, wincing as its appearance shifted to another one of her past companions. "Banagher..." The were-bear chef collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut, his heads riding back in his head. The construct shuddered, but still turned towards the dire tigress. "Umbriel! You remember me, yes?" She reached out one hand tentatively, nervously eying the surrounding horde of nightmarish beings.

Vyse grimaced as he saw the corpse fall, he recognized it as his friend Kalim, he had helped him save Umbriel from a rather grisly death, though when Rin picked him up and kept on running he realized he couldn't even feel his limbs now, they hung like limp noodles. He was frustrated at his weakness, though the sudden jolt of hitting the ground when Rin dropped him caused a wave of pain to go through his body, he could feel again... at least he could for a little while. He ran up as Rin dealt with the two creatures attacking Umbriel, he recognized neither man and thought nothing of it, he stood behind Rin, waiting for Umbriel's reaction.

Umbriel saw Rin and seemed to nod her head, licking her cheek, though when she saw Vyse she growled, her eyes clouded by something. Vyse walked past Rin, holding up his arms as if to hug Umbriel... and she immediately bit him, her massive head easily opening around Vyse's left shoulder and arm, her fangs sinking deep into him as a loud crunch emanated from Vyse, his ribs and arm obviously broken, in fact his arm at the elbow simply fell off, Umbriel growling as she tugged with her head, he could feel his insides and sides ripping in half. Vyse couldn't feel the pain anymore, it was as if he was already dead, he reached out with his only arm and hugged Umbriel's head, speaking softly, "Calm down Umbriel... protect your cubs like you protected me... like you tried to protect your first three cubs from those poachers." Vyse's arm dropped, his form returning to normal, the light slowly fading from his eyes, Umbriel let go of Vyse, her soft purring emanating from her body, she licked Vyse's face once before turning away, walking away with her cubs.

The sound of a blade cutting through the air sounded, then more, and more, five blades seemed to fall from the sky, slamming into the ground around him. Four images of Vyse through out the years appeared, One was even younger, he could be no more then ten years old and he held the longsword, Sopheur,in two hands, speaking out, as if he was talking to someone much larger then himself, "When I grow up I swear to be the strongest man alive! I won't stop moving forward and I promise someday I'll be able to equal you master!" The next form was the form he had just left, holding the cutlass, Blitz, which looked down at Vyse with a combination of fear and anger, "You fool! Master is dead, Mother is dead, Father is dead! You saw Master kill her, you killed him, and then you killed Father, you're just a brute, you're not a warrior like master or great grandfather, you're just a bloodwrath crazed brute!"

Vyse felt his eyes slowly close, he couldn't see them, but he could still hear their voices, the next man was Vyse before he had gotten his super strength, the form Rin had first met, in his had was his Lan De Yue Jia, Lita, strong and proud, free to roam, though his voice sounded more disappointed, "What was our motto when we first started out? Strike hard, Strike Fast, Strike first, we were all about speed, foot and blade, but now all you have is blade speed. What happened to the Berserker who could sprint faster then the winds, you rely to much on strength of arm and Umbriel, you've become weak and bored." The final one was Vyse as he was, though only hold the Sarilyn blade, Fenrir, but whole with his four arms out, he spoke with scorn, "You boasted strength and picked a new motto, 'When strength isn't enough use more strength,' pitiful, you picked up extra arms for fighting and paperwork, being stuck behind a desk for the rest of your life isn't what we wanted! We are Vyserial Noclan, your ambition, your fears and self loathing, your pride and regret, and finally your need to improve. Now get back up and take up the sword that is the key to your salvation."

Vyse grumbled as his eyes opened, slowly sitting up to look at Niteo, the chained blade, he had three enchantments put upon the sheath, the pommel, and the chains sealing it. He had nothing to lose by forcefully breaking them. He picked the sheathed blade up and held it out, the four Vyses stepping forward to hold the sheathe. Vyse pulled and growled as blood started to gush from his terrible wounds, the exertion almost forcing him to pass out several times as the runes started to glow, the metal sheathe slowly cracking, the chains snapping link by link and the pommel glowing red from the flames of the enchanted blade. The sword broke free. In his hand he held the blade he feared and called evil and used only under the most dire circumstances, the blade that would save lives and force any man to do what is right and just. Vyse felt pain running up his body, a pain no man should be able to bare, but he stood tall as his arm seemed to slowly stitch itself back together, he turned to Rin and smirked, "I'm back."

Rin giggled as the tigress approached her, licking the girl's face with her rough tongue. It was a familiar sensation and incredibly comforting given the horrible circumstances they found themselves in. She turned to Vyse, nodding to indicate that it was safe for the merchant to approach. However, she was apparently very wrong. As soon as he got within range of the big cat she struck, roaring harshly and biting deeply into the boy's shoulder. Rin gasped in shock, unsure of how to even react. She had never seen Umbriel treat Vyse with anything but respect and affection; on their first meeting, he had told her that the tigress often thought he was just another one of her cubs. The tiger jerked her head from side to side, eliciting a shout of pure, unbridled agony from the boy before he collapsed to the ground. Rin gasped, falling down to stare at the grievous wound, unsure of how to staunch the flow of blood.

Five swords dropped from the sky, plunging into the ground surrounding them, but the construct could not stop to wonder what was happening. The featureless creatures from before were surrounding them, edging ever closer with their spiky teeth gnashing together. "Vyse... Vyse, I'm sorry, but I've gotta protect us... Don't... Don't die Vyse." She turned to face the legion of faceless entities, gripping the longsword tightly as she stepped forward. She knew what was happening now. Sometime, every time she killed one of these creatures it became someone from her past, someone she cared about. Rin's face was full of resolve as she stepped up the first being, slapping its temple with the flat of her blade in an attempt to knock it out instead of kill it. It staggered back, but did not seem injured from the attack. Dammit...

Her next blow effectively eviscerated the being, but it was no longer featureless. Nkiruka's golden eyes stared at the girl in shock and dismay as she grasped her torso, trying to keep her entrails from spilling out on the ground. Rin stared at the Istani soldier as she collapsed, her unusual black blood glistening on the longsword's edge. "No... No, this isn't right." She shook her head wildly, turning away from the fallen woman. However, there was no horror on her face anymore, no shock or dismay. "This isn't right at all. I couldn't kill Nkiruka. She's too strong." She stabbed another one of the creatures straight in the eye socket, barely even noticing when it transformed into the Taras guardsman Duncan. "You aren't real. None of you are real." She laughed brightly, spinning in a wide arc, her blade flashing as she cut through the windpipes of three of the surrounding creatures. They collapsed, but their horrified and agonized faces no longer frightened the girl. She brandished the bloody sword, looking at Vyse with an exultant expression.

"None of this is real, Vyse."

Vyse looked at Rin, smiling at the corpses as she stated that none of it was real, Vyse nodded, "None of this is real... but we can still be hurt, still feel pain, sorcery is at work here, shall we show them our new minds, strengthened by the ordeals? You have overcome your fears, and with the help of my past selves, so have I." A loud booming voice echoed through the land, "Not so fast my son... a fear you had was the fact that you were weak, now that you are strong you can do what you needed, kill me again, and show me the power of your combined forces." He saw another fear he had, he had forced it into the deepest pits of his mind, his father, come back from the grave.

Vyse could see the world twisting and turning, it slowly became the beach he had killed his father at, his necromancer assistant and the ten men he had with him back then, but they were severely mutilated and brought back to life, he grimaced as he remembered the old foes he had faced, human at first but they would rise from the dead as the necromantic pill they had ingested slowly zombified them from the inside out, the Zombie Pills. Vyse walked forward, his other selves holding up their blades, laughing and jabbing each other with their elbows, as if they were going to the tavern to drink and be happy, even Vyse had a calm grin on his face. He turned his head to Rin, "I can take care of my final nightmare... but if you have a few foes left take care of them, if not, feel free to hack apart a few zombie warriors or maybe take of that pesky necromancer, the one in the black robes. Just leave the rest to me... and my past selves." The Vyses raised their blades and charged, whooping and crowing in joy as they rushed their foes, ready for combat.

Rin nodded at the merchant's words, a smile returning to her face. It was clear that the nightmare had taken its toll on her, but it was difficult to keep the construct depressed for an extended period of time. Not that she had come to grips with the fact that this was not reality, she seemed to harbor no misgivings or residual hesitations. She knew that this was just another obstacle, something she had to face in order to succeed in her task. The girl did not even seem to be surprised by the fact by the small legion of men before her, recognizing that none of them were enemies and all represented a facet of her companion. Vyse seemed to be having much more trouble with his subconscious, but the girl knew from their past encounters that he would not appreciate her interference in this matter. She stared at the newest apparition with a calculating eye, the featureless plain surrounding them transforming into a beach before her eyes. Even more worrisome were its inhabitants; a miniature horde of undead creatures rose up from the ground, groaning in a symphony of grotesque horror.

The construct nodded to Vyse, smiling slightly. "I can take care of them Vyse. Defeat your demons. I can watch your back." With the appearance of the beach the rest of the featureless entities had disappeared, perhaps due to the realization that they held no more sway over the construct. She rushed the undead in a burst of speed and sand, swinging it in a low sweep near the ground. It hewed straight through the first zombie's calf, completely cutting through the limb and sending the mindless undead sprawling on the ground. Rin's grin broadened at its agonizing moan, spinning towards the next foe. The nearest zombie reached out, grabbing onto her blond hair in a vise-like grip. Rin wrapped the fingers of her free hand around its wrist, swinging her other elbow up towards the creature's forearm. The rotted bone shattered with a wet pop, shards of white bursting out of its rotten flesh from the force of the blow. Its fingers went slack, allowing Rin to free herself from its grip and decapitate it in a spray of gore.

The next couple of mutilated corpses attacked simultaneously in an attempt to overwhelm the girl, but they clearly didn't know who they were dealing with. She tumbled forward in a tight somersault, lashing out with the sword and carving deep into the undead's chest cavity. It collapsed as she moved on to the next enemy, slamming her fist into its head. The skull caved in from the force of the punch, brain matter squirting out from around her fingers. She pivoted around its body, using it to block the attack of the next undead. Rin laughed with the sheer joy of the fight, pushing the defeated foe towards its comrades so that the entire group collapsed. She hopped backwards from the tangle of limbs, sharply shaking her sword so that the majority of the blood and viscera on the blade was flicked off. Only six of the zombies were left, as well as their apparent master. The construct leapt forward, the longsword flashing as she resumed the attack.

Vyse and his mental duplicates rushed past the zombies, hacking away at some as they rushed by, the necromancer was about to speak, only to have five blades hack through him one at a time, finishing off with Child Vyse kneecapping him with the holy blade. His father raised a hand and summoned the family blade, it seemed to be a normal longsword, but with a basket hilt, he muttered some word in a language Vyse could not recognize, and crimson blood started to drip from the blade. The Vyses went to attack him at once, Vyse's father easily fending them off with a show of speed and skill surpassing that of any master, his movements causing a blurry afterimage to follow his movements.

Soon the blade started to nick and slice through the Vyses, causing severe bleeding with just a touch, though finally, Vyse parried his father's strike as hard as he could, knocking the blade to the side, allowing two of the older Vyse duplicates used the flats of their blades to sweep the man off of his feet. All of the duplicates through their blades into the air, Vyse thrusting Niteo into his father's chest, pinning him to the ground, he held up his four arms, catching the hilts of his blades, the blades pointing down at his father. He thrust the blades quickly, impaling the man's legs and arms, the man started to yell something, he recognized it as magic but it didn't bother him, he drew Niteo from his body and slashed across his father's throat, beheading his father. He turned back to Rin, holding Niteo on high, "Let this blasted nightmare end! There is nothing I fear anymore! Neither man, undead, not even gods could put fear into me! I am strong! I am Vyserial Noclan!"

Vyse felt the world fade away, his eyes closing, he slowly opened them, only to see the forest and the pixies standing around them, poking them, Vyse growled and drew his blades, slicing through the pixies as if they were chaff before a scythe. He looked down at Rin and spoke evenly, "Wake up Rin... it's a bright sunny day and we get to wake up to the smell of the corpses of the things who put us to sleep." He flicked the blood from his blades and sheathed them, waiting for his friend to stand.

Due to the enhanced abilities given to her by the Grand Grimoire, Rin was a formidable opponent even for trained and well-armed soldiers. Against mindless, weaponless undead she was more like an unstoppable force of nature, rampaging through their ranks. The longsword flashed as she cleaved through limbs and torsos, the rotting flesh no match for her speed and strength. Four more of the zombies fell to the dancing blade without even touching the girl, their bodies fading to dust as soon as they struck the ground. The head necromancer growled out an indecipherable command and finally joined the fray himself, but it was far too late to change the outcome of the fight. If they had surrounded her at the beginning they might have had a chance of overwhelming her defenses, but the construct was more than capable of eliminating the three remaining undead. She cut straight through one’s torso, sending the two halves of its body falling to the sand. The next zombie had the entire length of the sword plunged through its skull. The weapon was wrenched out of the girl’s grasp as the creature collapsed, but being disarmed did not impede her in the slightest. She simply grabbed the necromancer’s skull in both hands and slammed it down as she brought up her knee, spreading his nose across his face and cracking the skull. She placed one foot on his neck as he collapsed, leaning down to pop the vertebrae out of place and finish the fight.

The girl turned to see how Vyse had fared but was surprised to see that the merchant was missing. She walked over to the enemy that he had faced, prodding the body with one foot. The legion of berserkers had easily cut down their foe, from the looks of it, but there was no indication as to where they had disappeared to. Rin pursed her lips in confusion, folding her arms. Without Vyse’s subconscious to influence the dreamscape it slowly transformed back into the featureless plane, with no landmarks in any direction. She sighed in exasperation, leaning down and plucking up the longsword. She did not know what else the nightmare had in store for her, but she would face it with a weapon in hand. However, that proved to be unnecessary: Vyse’s voice echoed across the plain, telling her that it was time to wake up. Rin closed her eyes, focusing on the man’s voice…

… and awoke on the trail in the Norwood Forest, the merchant standing over her with his blades drawn. She wasn’t sure if she was still dreaming or not, but there was only one copy of Vyse and he seemed to be the correct age, which was a good sign. She hopped to her feet, one hand shooting into her satchel to draw her longsword once more. Surrounding them was a miniature horde of terrible, misshapen creatures. They were humanoid, but had gossamer wings protruding from their shoulder blades and gray-tinged skin. They could be no more than a foot tall, and many of them seemed to be armed with blowguns and spears. When they opened their mouths it revealed a row of sharp, spiky teeth. Several of the dead fairies were heaped at her feet, suggesting that Vyse had already started to punish the creatures for the ambush earlier. The rest of the creatures flew away, clearly realizing they were no match for the two now that they were awake. Rin stared after them, her brow wrinkled in confusion. ”What… What were they hoping to accomplish?”

Vyse looked at the winged pests, slowly backing off as Rin woke up, running... or flying away, as the warrior girl woke up. Vyse smirked at Rin, "Don't know why they did it, but we survived, and I believe we've only gotten stronger from this ordeal." He looked around the forest, using the position of the sun to try and figure out where to head next, a thought crossed his mind as he reached into his jacket pocket, he felt the wad of envelopes and smirked, he had put them there by accident, probably a good thing to.

He took out the pack of envelopes and took one of them, handing it to Rin, "I didn't think I was going to find you or many of my friends, but here, an invitation to the Noclan Merchant's Midwinter Party." He smiled at the thought of the bouncy excited girl meeting his employees and of course seeing all of the nobles that would be there to see if it was a good party. He turned to what he figured was south, "I need to keep on running to Norwood village, I'm sorry but I'm needed there to help with some big merchant thing... something about deals, delivering supplies for a recent fire, and some other stuff, so if you could stop by the party it would be great, Umbriel would love it!" He let Umbriel having cubs and being forced to stay with them be a secret, "So goodbye for now Rin, remember to come to the party in Cascadia if you get the chance!" He rushed on south, towards Norwood village and business.
