| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Since she was a little elf, she'd wanted to meet the great horses of Kellen. Her parents had finally consented to allow this trip unaccompanied. She may have been eighteen, but she still was ruled under her parents guidelines. She was nervous and excited and of course curious as usual. That was her downfall, curiosity, as well as arrogance but sometimes, when something more beautiful came along, like the beautiful beasts of Kellen, she could appreciate something besides herself. She was also loyal and knew how to love. That was why she was so close to so many when her arrogance tended to get in the way, her compassion oddly enough, sometimes took over. It really depended on the person. She was perfect riding size and shape. Weighing a mere 115 lbs at 5'7, she looked mighty fine on the back of a horse and now she was ready to try Kellen's horses for herself. Except she needed someone to help her. Her pride refused her to allow herself to ask, but perhaps some gentleman would come along and offer his services. In a most dignified way, of course. Edited by Pandora, Mon Dec 5, 2011 5:43 am.

Tand was flying through the air with the greatest of ease, his black wings with pink tips allowed him to glide for long distances after finding a thermal, he did flips, spins, and even once he did a steep dive, and just as quickly decided to never dive again, it was bad for his he- oh wait, his heart was made of crystal, he still hadn't gotten used to the magical artifact embedded in his chest, then again all it really did was change him physically over long periods of time, he had just developed a sense of smell in his mouth so strong that he could identify the Istani people by their constant smell of sand. He opened his mouth, tasting the air, he could taste birds, horses, and of course the village of Kellen's people that were only a ten minutes of flying away. He tilted downward to gain speed and descend, he would land in near the Great Stables, it had a wide open area for people to ride horses but it also made for an excellent landing spot. As he got near the area he saw a woman, he had only seen a glimpse of her before he raised his body, flapping his wings hard to slow his fall, he still had a problem with these fast landings, he hit the ground and stumbled forward a bit, sighing in relief as he stood up and stretched his arms and wings. Tand turned and chuckled at the woman, "Sorry about that, jus' a bit of flyin' and tha' like, then again not many people see humans with wings." He knew the way he spoke was rather friendly and most nobility considered it rude, but he had adopted the speech over eight hundred years ago and refused to change it, it was a part of him now. Tand strode over, "So whaddaya doin' here all by yerself little lady? Jus' takin' a horse out fer a ride? I bet that's it, otherwise ya'd be inside tha' stables, right?" He felt the familiar weight of the raven he considered a pet and friend, he turned to the raven and seemed to be chastising him, "Ya know ya gotta stay ahead of me so I can see where ta' go ta' catch thermals, but what did ya do? Flew off when a hawk appeared, ya should, know I can put anythin' down wit'a single arrow, what do ya got ta' say fer yerself?" The raven slightly tilted it's head and spoke quickly to him, "Nevermore, by the door. Who's yer friend. Me! Black Bowman! Tha' Black Bowman! SQUAWK!" Nevermore immediately began pecking the side of Tand's head, squawking all the while. Tand barely stopped the bird and threw him into the air, he called out to him, "Come back when ya cool off and don't want to peck my eyes out Nevermore!" The raven squawked and shouted 'Black Bowman' several times before flying away. Tand sighed, he had just taken his position back as the Captain of the Black Bows a few weeks ago, and so far he's had only minor missions, for now he simply flew around waiting for a Wind Message to reach his ears, so for now he would simply goof off. He turned back to the woman and smiled, "Oh right, tha' names Tandorous, call me Tand, who are you?" He waited for her answer, and he had no doubt she had some questions for him, for now, he steeled himself and waited for her questions. |

Pandora was startled out of her reverie by a human, no doubt, but one with wings. How peculiar, she thought. She turned back to the entrance to the stables, wondering if this might be the very man she'd prayed for. He didn't seem like he'd be the best to get upon a horse. In fact, he looked like he just might scare them all away. She furrowed her light, blonde brows and titled her head while he spoke, not only to her, but to his..bird. She took to biting her lip while she tried to figure out in the bird could actually understand him. It seemed to though, as it squawked away in a seemingly haughty manor. She shook her head at the theatrics and regarded the one in front of her. "Well Tandorus, my name is Pandora Gwendolyn. Of the Gwendolyn's. You know, the Sun Elves? You seem very um eccentric." In all actuality, he was very attractive. He had the nicest black hair and his eyes were full of depth as if he'd seem much more than a man his age. They brought her to another curiosity; How old exactly was he? He looked no older than herself, but she knew that could mean anything. If he had been able to obtain these wings, he could be anyone or anything. She knew she should keep her guard up, but it was hard with his easy manor and the lovingly way he spoke to his pet even though the words weren't so admirable. She knew this might mean that he wasn't from any particular town, but maybe more of a wanderer. Of course he could be a rogue dying to pick-pocket her to fund his devious ways. Once again, she'd lead her imagination in all different directions. This was one of her biggest flaws. Well the curiosity part and she was weighed down with questions to ask this man. But for now, she stuck with a simple one. "Do you know how to ride horses? I'm in the need of assistance. But you musn't ever tell a single soul that I mentioned such a thing. A girl my age and stature should have been riding horses as a child. But the Elves were a little busy fighting..if you recall the Separation War." Edited by Pandora, Tue Dec 6, 2011 1:21 am.

Tand rarely paid attention to the elves, he had met many and fought with them, but they always seemed to distant, if not out right angry at the fact that they had to be respectful to a human simply because their elders knew Tand and spoke highly of him, then again that was when he was the Black Bowman, a man of strength and valor, now he was simply Tandrous Elderson, Commander of the Black Bows, the Istani Military's spies, assassins, and at their best, they were a handy military unit that could bring down an enemy fort in a single afternoon if Tand was in command, as he had shown them over eight hundred years ago during his time as their leader. He scratched his head and shook it, "Nope, never heard of ya, never paid much attention ta' elves, they usually don't tend ta' like me once they get ta' know what I am. As fer horses... even durin' my days in tha' Istan Military I preferred ta' travel in a caravan or on foot, but now I jus' prefer ta' fly now. As fer tha' Seperation War... did I fight in that one... if I did which alias was it... Black Bowman... or was that tha' only time people called me tha' Black Eyed Beast..." He shrugged, dismissing it completely. He turned back to Pandora, "Well not all noble folks learn ta' ride horses, I can show ya how ta' sit in it but no idea how ta' compensate fer tha' movements, if ya wanted help with ridin' I know a guy who can teach ya." Truth was he knew very little of the man besides he was called the Merchant of Life, mainly because he sold almost solely healing supplies, he would save that information for later though only if Pandora wanted to know who the man was. |

Pandora assumed bu the way he was speaking, his dialect, that he wasn't a nobleman and she need not be to cautious with her words. While she would not out and disrespect him, she felt she could apply a more conversational tone with him. She tried to ignore the fact that he seemed confused about who he truly was. It was then she realize he had spoken of the Istan Military. Now that was a group to be wary and frightened of. But as long as you did nothing to gain their attention, they normally left you alone. And as an eighteen year old Elf, she certainly had no reason to attract such a force. While her family was rick and powerful, they were also lawfully good people. They stuck by the law as if it were a parasite they couldn't shake. She couldn't help but to giggle at his mannerism. She wasn't trying to be rude though. So she turned it into a cough and waved her hand in the air as if being reproachful of the dust in the air. "Excuse me for saying so, but your dialect and accent are not one I have had the pleasure to encounter before. I must admit, I have not been out much to see the world for myself. I have only heard the wild storeies my father told at the yearly Balefire. Well, Tand or Black Bowmen or the Black Eyed Beast, whichecer you prefer to be called, I'd like to take you up on your offer to assist me onto the back of the horse. If you have the time to do so of course. And I am sure the stablehands can help me further along without bothering your friend. But if you would rather send for him, I'd be just as pleased. I leave it up to you." Edited by Pandora, Tue Dec 6, 2011 8:42 pm.

Tand chuckled at the girl, of course she hadn't heard of his speech, it was a dialect that was insanely rare since he picked it up over eight hundred years ago, he was older then most of the oldest elves and even they wouldn't pick up on a dialect used by the military in Istan. He chuckled when she called the man she knew as a friend, he shook his head, "Yer mistaken on tha' fact that he's a friend, I only said I know a guy. He's also never heard of me, after all tha' Eldersons jus' got their title of nobility back. Now tha' guy I'm talkin' about is one of tha' few Chargers, people who specialize in mounted combat, that still lives. Though that would mean seekin' him out in Cascadia, a fair amount of time would be needed ta' find him though." He took a few steps forward, "Though if ya don't mind me helpin' I can at tha' very least get ya started." He motioned to one of the men in the stables, Tand walked to him and whispered a few words to him, he nodded and ran to bring out an older mare, it would be easier to ride then most and it was best to give her some confidence right off the bat tempered with a little skill. He motioned for her to come closer, he waited for her to come before starting, "Alright, first ya check what side of tha' horse yer on, we're on tha' left side so ya gotta put yer left foot into tha' loop her meant ta' hold yer feet and then..." He put his left foot onto it and swung his right leg over the back of the horse, sitting up straight as he held himself steady with the saddle, "And then swing yer leg and body up and over, simple eh?" He dismounted slowly and nodded to her, "Yer turn." |

She choked down another laugh at his accent and tried to focus on what he was saying. She wasn´t sure how she would get used to his speech and it took a measurement of patience to absorb what he was saying. She needed to get this right so she could prove to her papa that she was prepared for a quest. Maybe even a winter quest! She thought that would be absolutely grand. She had dreamed her whole life of meeting the Red Rogue, even though he was considered a myth. She never gave up hope that his was real and many rumors had surfaced. Some said he was an Elf and gave presents to all without ever taking away from the rich. Others said he was human and a thief. Either way, she thought what he did was admirable and would not mind taking on one of his impostors. But the days were winding ever closer to the day he would appear and she needed to be in Cascadia where he was said to live. She needed to put all those thoughts aside though and concentrate on Tand´s instructions. She tended to wander in thought and it was a flaw her family had always seen as annoying. But she could not help her ways. She was also curious and proud. That was something they never reprimanded her on. She turned her attention to the horse to see if he´d give up any secrets about how to ride him. But she could not speak to animals like some could and he just stared dumbly back. Tand had already given his instruction and she had accidentally missed the entire demonstration. She cursed her inability to concentrate. She was not going to ask him to repeat himself and be utterly rude. If anything, she was diplomatic as her father had taught her to be. You could even say she was her father´s daughter. Of course she did not have much choice in that matter. Pandora approached this horse cautiously as it snorted at her. It looked just as nervous as her and she wondered if he could feel her anxiety. She had heard once that horses were very empathetic creatures so she started out with a simple procedure of calming him. Looking back at Tand, she hoped this was acceptable but did not wait for his reply. She started to caress the horse´s silky mane and she seemed to enjoy it so she moved to her back. The horse was amazing well toned and a beautiful chestnut color. Her whole body glistened in the afternoon sun. And once Pandora was assured that the horse was friendly, she put her foot in the stirrup and flung herself over. She had a smile on her face for all of two seconds as she realized her mistake. She had put the wrong foot, her right, into the stirrup and flung herself backwards. She was now facing the horse´s rump and albeit a muscular one, it was not something Pandora wished to be looking at. She felt the heat rise up from her throat to attach itself to her cheeks. She quickly tried to scramble off but fell right onto the dirty, dusty ground. Glancing up at Tandorus, she said hesitantly and abashedly, ¨Well that did not go as I thought it would. If you would so kindly give me a hand up, I can try again. And please do not mistake heat in my cheeks for shame. It is simply flustering to have such an incompetent instructor.¨ ¨ She put her dirty hand to her mouth, leaving a streak across it, as she realized what she had just said. To cover up her chagrin, she had insulted the very person that was altruistically spending his time teaching her a simple task she should already know. ¨Oh Tand, I am so sorry for what I just said. Truly, I am just simply devastated at my error that I took it out on you. You are simply a kind soul helping a silly Elf. Can you, no will you, forgive me? Also I want to pay you gold for instructing me. What say you, five gold pieces?¨ |

Tand looked up at her as she got on the wrong way, he chuckled at her though it was quite quickly replaced by a scowl, from that line he already knew what she was, he had heard it dozens, if not hundreds, of times during his eight hundred sixty five years of life, when she apologized though he still had the scowl on his face as he spoke, "Ya know what, here's tha' thing, if yer gonna act like some kinda stuck up noble then I will leave and refuse ta' help ya, as fer payment... let me say it this way. My name is Tanderous Elderson, tha' immortal Black Bowman, I have tha' upbringing of a noble and I fought in more wars then yer parents have lived decades! I have slain drakes, I have fought men, demons, devils, and on one account a giant sandworm dragon thing! Not ta' mention I am tha' leader of tha' Black Bows, Istan's greatest archery and stealth squad, I take orders and insults from only tha' Sultanna of Istan and tha' High General, now remember this isn't a threat to ya, but a promise, do not insult someone jus' because of yer upbringin' it will bite you in tha' arse someday." He took a little time to even his breath before turning to her, "Now, if ya won't insult me anymore and if ya won't try ta' bribe me then lets get back to tha' lesson at hand. Dismount tha' same way you got on, and this time when ya mount up, use tha' foot fer tha' correspondin' side, if yer on tha' left, use yer left to step up and tha' right to swing around and vice versa fer tha' right." He waited for her to comply, his face gentle once more as his anger was quelled, usually he could keep composed, but this woman was a noble, something he hated above all else, he shook his head, shaking loose his prejudice to judge her fairly. |

She looked at him with increasing intensity. People did not speak to her this way. Yes, she was spoiled and proud, but she was a Sun Elf! The highest of all Elves! Her papa and grandfather were both politicians. They lived out here only during the winters because it was much warmer. But they had houses all over. They were rich in gold and friends. But she was not her family and tried to remember her place. This man seemed to have stout and she did not want to anger him again. She bit down on her reply and tried to smile, failing. She bit her cheek like she was wont to do when nervous. This was a new feeling, one of actual shame. How could she live up to this being in front of her? He was well beyond her years and he was simply trying to teach her to ride. She had judged him by his clothes, manner, looks, and speech. She had been taught no different but she just realized that she did not wish to be like her family. Pandora had no idea how to respond, but he had not offered to help her back up. So she pushed herself up on her hands and tried to brush the worst of the dust and dirt. Her mother would cast a spell on her so she could not leave the house if she came back looking like she currently did. Perhaps she would find some where to wash off once she had completed her learning for the day. She wished Tand would teach her again, another day, but she had the feeling she might never see him again. Why would he want to? She had done nothing but treat him poorly. "Tand, I hope we can get past this. I am ready to listen to your instruction and follow them to the letter. You are obviously well above me in stature as well as in manners. So I will try this again and maybe you will stay to continue helping." She carefully placed her left foot in the stirrup, her hands on the saddle, and lifted herself upwards. This time, when she firmly placed herself in the saddle, she threw her right foot over the other side and found the other stirrup. She placed her back firmly forward like she had been taught similarly to sit properly. Looking down at Tand, she waited for his approval or for him to tell her if she had done something wrong. "I hope this is proper and right. I need to be able to move on from the sitting part to the moving part. Do you think you can help me with this too? Perhaps you can hop up her behind me and teach me to hold the reigns." |

Tand nodded, listening to her words and decided to let her little outburst slide, his smirk came back, "Okay, jus' this once eh? As fer tha' ridin' business, yer fine, so press yer heels slightly against tha' side of tha' horse, remember keep it light, or else she might bolt." He would let her trot a bit, no use making her go fast, she would only fall out of the saddle again... or worse, be dragged along the ground with her foot stuck in one of the foot loops. He turned to look at her nodding, "Ya know, I've lived fer eight hundred and sixty five years, I've fought in wars, assassinated leaders, and on occasion I got ta' go home ta' my wife and kids, then again that was only when tha' nobles of Istan weren't pressurin' tha' Sultan ta' expand tha' empire and conquer all of tha' desert. I would be gone fer months on end before being able ta' see my family... even then only fer a day before bein' sent out ta' some old fort that was taken by rebels, I am more then most people will ever know, even now I hold secrets that this world will never hear. So remember this little lady, I am tha' oldest human alive, I rival tha' age of most elderly elves, and I will keep on livin' with my curse of immortality... jus' remember, do not do what yer station expects of ya if it contradicts with yer beliefs, treat everyone kindly and listen to tha' farmers and peasants, their insight I find is more logical and they lack tha' stubborn pride of nobles, makin' them much more agreeable, so jus' remember ta' listen to all of tha' facts, do not be like all other nobles, be different and be stronger because of it." He stopped talking and turned to her, hoping to hear what she had to say about the matter. |

Blushing, Pandora realized that by asking him to seat behind her, she had accidentally made it seem as if she wanted him to be closer. The horse was small and unable to comfortably seat more than one. She seemed to go from insulting him to insinuating that she wanted to be more than friendly with him. And he had just mentioned a wife and child! Even though it was rude to ask, she was deeply curious about his immortal life. How sad it would be to have to live forever! Even if you had one you loved it seemed you would tire of their company. His smirk caused her to relax a little and she could feel the horse responding. It's muscles soften slightly and she felt more in tune with the creature. The horse seemed to be used to beginners and did not move about restlessly like some she had witnessed. She had been afraid she would be tossed off but it seemed as if the horse might accept her after all. While she was patting the horse reassuringly on the side of its neck, it occurred to her that she wanted to know more of Tand. She was enjoying his company and he was amazingly open with her. She wondered if he normally talked about his past like he was with her. He was even able to openly talk about the nobles which most would not openly do unless they were saying only good things. She knew what some thought about them though and she had been taught to stay away from individuals like that. "I have only lived eighteen years so I do not have the wisdom you must have. I can tell from your speech that you do not like nobles. I hope you are not putting me into that category though. My family is not me. I can and will be different although you are wrong about one thing. Not every noble is ruthless and gold hungry. Some have worked for their statuses and to keep them. Ever since the Separation War, we have lived side by side with humans and have learned much. I have learned and continue to this very moment. We are proud people, I will not lie to you. But I believe in the few that are trying to do good! Besides, not all peasants are humble and worthy people. Some will do anything for a coin including thievery! But while we are on the subject, I would like to ask you what has happened to your family. You speak of immortality and being forced to go without being with your wife and child for months. You have obviously lived a hard and long life alright. How can you bare it? I could not wander the lands forever. I would grow weary of the same thing every day. You must be a special person to not only accept your fate, but to be so eccentric." |

Tand nodded, "Tha' peasants that steal only steal outta necessity most of tha' time, as fer my family... they were slaughtered by demons, my mother, father, my in-laws, my brothers, sisters, my children... and my beloved wife who stayed with me even though I selfishly stayed in tha' army wantin' more excitement from tha' world. Now they're gone, buried in tha' sands of Istan. As fer my immortality... a demon cursed me with it. As fer my existence... I live ta' serve Istan, ta' make meaningful bonds with others, and ta' live up ta' my wife's final words... as I held her dyin' in my arms she said one thing, 'Please... don't dwell on tha' past, look forward and learn ta' be happy again.' Well she said that without my accent of course, so I've served Istan faithfully, wandered tha' world, made many friends and helped bury most of'em at their funerals... though I still haven't found a new wife... though there is a girl who I am interested in, she's strong willed, swift, smart, and kind." His mind partially drifted back to his wife, she had been the kindest woman he had ever met, she had been of noble birth like himself, and she acted with power and grace, but was still so kind, his wife had been one of the few nobles he cared for. Tand shook himself from his happy thoughts and chuckled, "The woman I'm interested in... she's a monk, martial arts and all that stuff, but she was with me when my wings grew... and when I had my heart forced outta my body." He let go of the saddle and let himself fall off the back of the horse, spreading his wings open to catch himself and land on his feet. He looked up to her, "Now while I can't see tha' woman I'm interested in I just wander around, wait fer wind messages from Istan fer missions, now tha's enough about me, what about you, what do ya want ta' do with yer life?" Tand always found himself much more relaxed around women, it made his tongue loose, though what he gave out wasn't confidential, he had left out details for a reason after all. |

"I never thought of it that way. I always thought of the peasants as dirty thieves, especially when I would get into trouble when they stole something from me. I have an issue with showing off some of the things my parents have bought for me...and then I get in trouble when it is taken! But like I stated previously, you are correct. They do need things much more than I do. And I have not owned anything I can not live with out. Well jewelry and clothing wise. I am adept with a bow, so I can hunt my own food. That is one thing my father insisted." She recounted the rest of his story and felt tears coming to her eyes in sympathy. She tried to turn her head before he could see them. "I am truly apologetic about your family. Of course it had nothing to do with me, but I find myself sympathetic. I have not lost anyone since the Elves have a long life span. But I am young yet. I will know grief one day, though surely not as profoundly as you have known it." She grabbed the mane of the horse and gently used it to help herself down and off the horse. She did not feel like riding and wished to return the horse to the stable. She wanted to walk and chat with this new found friend. Also her legs were cramping from sitting atop the horse for so long. "May we return this creature and go for a walk? There is a pleasant stream a short distance from here. I find that I am becoming famished. Perhaps we could hunt or fish and have lunch? We can talk more about this woman of yours and I must know about your wings. They are fantastic..yet mysterious. Also we can chat about my life. You have told me so much of yours, that I owe you a talk about my short one. I can tell you about my family and my hunting lessons. And speak of stories that my curiosity has lead me on. I have not yet had a true adventure, nor quest but that is precisely why I am here today. If I can learn to ride a horse, perhaps I can talk my father into allowing me to go on my very own quest." She beamed at these last words. She was excited to travel Imythess. Although she did not want to go alone, she thought her father might buy her a lovely Pegasus so she could fly or a Ethereal Unicorn that she could call up at will. There was no end to the type of beasts that could accompany her and no shortage of ones that could speak telepathically. She thought it might be wonderful to have such a friend if she could not find someone to quest with her. "Have you ever had a horse for yourself? I bet in all your years you must have had some fine beasts. Perhaps a Fiery Steed or a dreaded Hellsteed, the ones that are undead! I have never seen one with my own eyes but the stories I have heard have been appalling!" |

Tand shook his head and smirked, "My wings... are an unnatural growth from tha' artifact buried in my chest, exactly where my heart used ta' be. When I was weakened from tha' crystal she dragged me up nearly a mile's worth a' stairs. She's helped me a lot, now as fer tha' horse, jus' dismount, tha' area is railed off so tha' stable helpers will get tha' horse in a bit. So if ya wanna go fer a walk lets go." He thought of the area and knew the area to the river, he had flown over it while coming to Kellen, he turned his head back to Pandora, "I can fly us there if ya'd like, and we can talk as we fish or hunt, since whatever comes within my sight won't be able ta' escape my arrows, years of archery has made me tha' best shot in Istan." Of course that was entirely self proclaimed, he hadn't entered an Istani archery contest in decades, but he had no doubt in his mind that he was the best archer he could possibly be, he might not be able to shoot as far as he used to, but he could shoot just as fast and twice as accurate as any other man out there. |
