Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

"They don't teach me anything here. I've only come to observe and practice," Sebastian replied as he slipped out of the door to join the girl once more on the porch. "I live alone here, except for the animals, but I have plenty of company, in my studies and subjects."

Sebastian opened the door and motioned for his guest to enter the cabin, but paused in the middle of the gesture before placing his hand contemplatively on his chin. "Before we go inside, would it not be appropriate for me to know the name of the young lady I'm so graciously inviting into my home?" he said, smiling. "I've already introduced myself, but I don't believe I've caught your name yet."

There was nothing sinister or malicious about his request, yet his voice carried a frozen, steel timbre, something that would run shivers down any mortal's spine. There was certain energy in every syllable he spoke, something electric and dangerous, but it would be impossible to point out quite what it was.

The feeling he gave her, the danger that radiated from his icy tone, that dripped off his casual body language. It made her nervous. Oh she knew this entire thing would screw her over one day. But for now she had to choke back tears, be brave, (maybe at some point get some appropriate clothes) and survive.

"It's Ashleigh, my name is Ashleigh." Silently she wondered if that would be a weird name for their culture.

With a silent, graceful motion, she swept into the room. It was lager than she had anticipated and held a few pieces of furniture that she imaged might be in a Kings winter cabin, perhaps from the 1300's. It was odd for her to see no telephone, no tv, no DVD, no nothing. It was as though she were in medieval times.... well it wasn't 'as if' she was. And, again she was scared of looking too modern.

Her hair, firstly was only shoulder length and had layers that looked like a ten year old went at it. Did woman here have short hair? She had a manicure, she knew right away no one here would have one of those.

But she noticed subtle differences ever since she came here too. Her skin, was now as perfect as porcline, and from the reflection in the window she saw her eyes were a beautiful bright olive green.

Ashleigh stood in the middle of the room holding her arms, looking around and then back at him. "Help me. I don't know what world I'm in, I don't know what the rules are, what the social norms are, what the standards are!"

"Well, I'm pleased to have met you, Ashleigh," Sebastian said, plainly and honestly, and he took a deep bow before lightly grasping her hand and pressing his blue-white lips against it. Like the rest of his icy skin, his lips were freezing to touch. "And I'm glad you trusted my fox enough to follow him to me. Both of us would be subject to rather unfortunate circumstances had we not come across eachother this evening. Strange things happens in these woods at night." The sorcerer spoke his ominous phrase, and as if on cue, or by Sebastian's own command, their was an inhuman, monstrous shriek in the far-off distance.

"We're safe here, though."

The genasi turned away from the girl momentarily, leaving her to take in the scenery. He looked around the room, which was significantly tidier now than it had been when he had left it that morning. It was impossible to tell that a necromancer, or even a scientist made his home here. Save for the odd dusty corner and forgotten cobweb, the place was quite in order, and the furniture, some of it borrowed from Graham, some of it from his old home in Striberg, was quite simple, too. Cushioned stools and benches, set near rather modest wooden desks seemed to be the fashion of the living room, with the exception being the long table in the center of the room, for dining presumably, though Sebastian had used it at least once to perform rather gruesome operations. The surface was, at least, sterilized since then.

The walls were adorned with pieces of art, most of it from Striberg: majestic paintings of great northern expanses, icy glaciers, and even a cozy picturesque painting of Striberg itself.

Sebastian's admiring of Striberg's artistic depiction was interrupted by a sudden cry from the girl. "Help me. I don't know what world I'm in; I don't know what the rules are, what the social norms are, what the standards are!" she shouted, visibly upset. The sorcerer had little experience with women, but he knew her body language enough to read her distress. He felt the pang of guilt in his gut.

"This land, the country, is called Imythess," Sebastian said as he rushed towards the girl and ushered her onto a rather cozy-looking seat, a cushioned bench that ran along one side of the dining table, long enough to seat four. Sebastian never had any more than one guest. "The forest you're in is Calmonah Forest, in the province of Norwood," he explained in a calm voice.

"You speak common, I know, but... some of your words are unfamiliar to me, I'm afraid. The laws of the land are simple enough; don't get caught, but your words 'social norms' are unfamiliar to me. I wish to help you, I do. If you'll sit down, I'll light you a candle and find something to drink. We will talk while we await our dinner, and I will answer any question you have. Do you mind?"

No one had ever bowed to her, or kissed her hand. She felt quite royal for a moment. It was also in that moment that she decided she would take in as many behaviors, pleasantries, and common practices as she could. And then, she would try to determine which historical period this land was essentially in. Or, as close as she could get it at least.

Observation 1: Bow and Kiss. She probably should curtsy. A common practice for much of the medieval, tudor, golden, and regency era's.

As he kissed her hand a shiver went up her spine from the cold lips on her skin. As elegantly as he could she curtsied in return. She still wondered if following him was a mistake. But she was grateful it wasn't her that was the source of that horrific scream in the black night.

"I am grateful for your shelter. The night is quite scary." She replied.

Observation 2: All furnished from wood. Lines and design structures reminiscent of medieval and tudor periods. Tons of ice paintings and tapestries... huh.

"Imythess." She said, practicing the word in her mouth. It was old, yet magical. It was also structured in provinces. Something she would have to get used to. The moment he said that questions were to be answered she couldn't help but let them pour out of her mouth.
"I only speak common? Well I feel.... under educated." Lame, she mentally added. "Does my accent sound funny?"
Now, the waterfall of questions came:
"Is my hair too short?
Isn't it very inappropriate for a woman to spend time at a mans house on her own?
Are woman not as important as men?
Should I get a job? Do people work?
Who's in charge? Who's the King and Queen?
I can't dance! Will I need to know how to?
Do my clothes look funny?
How do I get educated?"

Sebastian was pleased by the torrent of questions, as it happened he was in the mood to answer them. "Don't feel undereducated," he replied coolly over his shoulder as he removed himself from the room briefly, returning moments later with two glasses and a tall, lableless glass bottle that could have held anything from water to wine to poison. "Few outside of high royalty and the incredibly wise speak anything more than common or some other native language. My guess is that your native tongue is common. You speak it so elegantly, as only a native speaker could do," he said, taking note of her interesting coloquials, as well as her ability to seemingly switch between informal and formal speech rather well.

Setting the glasses down on the table, the genasi poured a sparkling golden liquid from the bottle, filling each of them before setting the bottle down again. Another question was in the air before the drinks were poured. "Does my accent sound funny?"

"Your accent is actually quite appropriate. You share a dialect with many of Imythess' humans, it would seem. If I speak with an accent, it is because of my homeland. In the northern parts of Imythess, our tones match the landscape. That is what I've been told," he said, and though he smirked briefly at the joke, he only offered a wry chuckle.

"Is my hair too short?" was her next question, and at this, Sebastian cocked one of his silver-white brows, glancing over her hairstyle quickly.

"No," he answered honestly. "Is mine too long?" he replied rhetorically, sarcasm on his breath.

"Isn't it very inappropriate for a woman to spend time at a mans house on her own?"

"Probably."

"Are woman not as important as men?"

"Some are more important than others."

"Should I get a job? Do people work?"

"Not necessarily. I've lived as a traveller for nearly two years now. Many do work, however, often with their families."

"Who's in charge? Who's the King and Queen?"

"Most of the cities and states of Imythess are independantly ruled. Striberg, my home, for example, is governed by a panel of powerful magicians."

"I can't dance! Will I need to know how to?"

"Do you seek a mate?"

"Do my clothes look funny?"

"Yes."

"How do I get educated?"

"You're uneducated? Certainly you read and write, no? I can't have misread you by such a margin." As Sebastian answered the girl's questions, he placed a single white candle on the table before them, and muttered a single command word. A tiny blue spark appeared at Sebatian's fingertips, and it ignited the wick almost immediately. The flame maintained its blue color, and if touched, would not burn, but inflict frostbite. Sebastian's brand of fire was freezing cold.

Observation 3: Her manner of speaking seemed to be appropriate so she decided to continue to speak as she did. Aside from any slang or lingo that wouldn't be recognized. Though, she already knew this may be hard because several slang words made up the corner stones of her vernacular.

The glasses he set down carried a sparkling gold liquid. And this, she assumed was not normal of any liquid unless it was enchanted somehow. So, as sneakily as she could she ignored the glass. She would not drink until she felt herself burning for some liquid.

With a smile she couldn't help but say back, with just as much sarcasm: "Yes, your hair is rather long for where I come from."

She knew it. It would be frowned upon in almost any time period, place, or dimension for a woman and man to be alone in a cabin in the middle of nowhere. Sighing at his answer she rolled her eyes, which were only growing greener since she had arrived.

Observation 4: It didn't seem the woman were automatically less important than men. She assumed that different species on this land dictated that couldn't be so. Also, because of the way things were ran she assumed there couldn't be too much of a defined social hierarchy.

"I don't know what language you write in, so I cannot assume that I can do any of that." Taking a shot in the dark she said casually: "I can write in runes, I don't know if that's a lost language here or not." She had a rune code system with her friends in which they wrote. Who knew? Maybe it would come in handy. "Well, I suppose I must learn to dance in that ca- my clothes look funny!?" Now she was in a frenzy. If there was anything she cared about it was her appearance. "Looks like you're going to get me new clothes." She said, absent mindedly playing with the flame until she got too close. Screaming "OW!" she yanked her hand away from the flame and noticed the iced over red mark on her index finger.

"I assumed your manner of dress was reflective of your social class, but if you desire new ones, we'll have to visit town to find you something. As I'm sure you can guess, I have only men's clothing here." Sebastian shrugged. He wasn't necessarily opposed to what she was wearing now. He certainly wasn't going to complain about the young woman in his home showing off too much of her body.

The sorcerer watched as the girl foolishly got too close to the frozen flame that lit their candle. Her finger was immediately frostbitten. His magic frost was far more dangerous than regular fire, often causing skin to blacken almost instantly with contact. Her shrill yip was a cue for Sebastian to extinguish the flame with a breath.

"I'm sorry my home won't provide you with much warmth," he said, picking up the candle from the table and holding it out for the girl to touch. Unlike most used candles, if she touched this one, it would be rigid and icy, a layer of frost forming on the tip.

Finally settling in a seat opposite Ashleigh, Sebastian took a sip from his glass, noting that the girl had not yet touched hers. "Wine," the sorcerer said, leaning forward. "I assure you I'm not trying to poison you." His answer was truthful, of course. If he had wanted to kill the girl, he could have outright done so in the woods when she offered him her life-force.

"From the sounds of things you wouldn't be providing me with any clothes that are anywhere near as nice as what is already on my back... leave the clothing thing alone." She said, putting her face in her hands and taking a deep breath. Her body was feeling heavy and tired. She wanted drink and food but didn't dare take anything he offered, though he continued to insist.

She continued to feel the chill. And then, something inside her began to shift and a small surge of power rushed through her body. But this only lasted for a moment when a dried brown leave suddenly appeared on the table on top of the candle as if extinguishing the flame which had caused her pain.

"I don't drink." She said. And it was true, no wine, no spirits, no sparkling drink.

Seemingly from nowhere, a dried leaf appeared in the air, falling gently atop the frozen flame and extinguishing it, leaving the two in darkness. Sebastian thought nothing of it, flicking the crumpled leaf away. The thing was covered in a layer of frost, and the heat had been sucked out of it.

"Well you're not going to become drunk, with all due respect," Sebastian said in response. "It's only a glass of wine, and quite an expensive one at that. I'd prefer not to dump it, but if you wish, I'll rid of it and bring you back water." He sighed, slightly offended, his sky-blue eyes glowing through the darkness, peering into her green ones, which were strangely more brilliant than they had been when they met.

"If you don't mind my asking now, Ashleigh, how did you get here? You speak of separate worlds, and you simply appeared in the woods from nowhere. Perhaps you are a traveler from the stars, or a Goddess from a foreign plane?" He had invited the girl in, had used her to regain his strength, and still knew nothing more of her than her name. The girl said she had stumbled into the forest by accident, but how? The grove his servant had found her in was certainly no fork-in-the-roads or junction to any highway in Norwood. She had appeared as if by magic.

Their eyes glowed brightly in the darkness, and it was starting to scare her. If he weren't so terrifying she may hug him for some kind of support. But she didn't dare move any closer to him from where she was. Would his breath freeze over her face if she got too close? Involuntarily she felt her body moving toward his. "You still can't blame me for being... nervous about strange drinks men with glowing blue eyes offer me." she said defensively.

"I don't know how I got here. If I knew then I would probably also know where to go from here." Now she could lie. Right then and there she could say she was a noble from another world and he should treat her with the utmost respect. But how was she supposed to keep that up? It was useless. "Thank you, but I'm not a goddess. I was part of the working upper middle class where I'm from." She said slightly embarrassed.

"Tell me, what should I do from here?" She asked, pleading. Then, she said the words that could possibly seal her fate to his for longer than she had anticipated. Quite possibly longer than forever. "Oh, and by the way, after all the help you'll be giving me. I owe you one. In fact, I'll probably owe you a lot." She said. The horror of never seeing her home again, being stuck with a stranger, and unaware of how things worked.

"At leas your parents are working." Sebastian paused to take a sip from his wine. The golden liquid was cool in his throat, which was nice. The necromancer was feeling uncomfortably hot with this warm-blooded girl so near him, and he dared not relight the cold flame after it had been so ominously extinguished. "And I'm sure they work diligently for you to afford such... exotic dress," he continued, trying to be polite.

"I was a bounty hunter when I lived in the north," Sebastian said, blinking slowly as he spoke. "Now I just study. My master supports my studies, usually. He lives a rather wealthy lifestyle, and thankfully can afford for me to join him. He happens to have recently come into a large amount of political power."

"From here? I couldn't say. I'd advise you travel to some large city, where you might be able to find help. Otherwise, you could stay with me. I could always use a student if you wish to learn magic," Sebastian offered, giving a rather undainty shrug. "As far as debts, you owe me nothing for now, but I'll remember your words. If I can ever think of some way for you to help me, I won't hesitate to ask," the necromancer said, chuckling coolly before pouring himself another glass of wine from the bottle on the table.

For some reason she felt rather nervous, as if she had just made a huge mistake. In moments she was in a panicked frenzy. Looking around, a map, he must have a map right? She needed to get out and find his master, maybe that would help. Maybe his master could help her to come into some wealth and she could live in this world in the lap of luxury. But all she could do was sit in a frozen state of shock.

"Take me to your master then! I need help! And you are just suggesting and not helping me DO anything! UGH!" Then, in a flash of frustration she knocked the candle off the table, her hand doing something rather particular to protect herself from the frost. Her skin turned to bark where any frost would have laid its lips to bite her skin.

((sorry it's short! way hecticright now!)

In a burst of action, the girl lashed out, knocking the candle from the table. The white shaft of wax fell, rolling, before knocking over the glass of wine that Ashleigh still had not touched, spilling the golden liqueur over the hard wood surface, splashing onto Sebastian, the floor, and the furniture around the room. At once, Sebastian's eyes flashed hot white, the first sign of aggression the necromancer had displayed since the arrival of the girl. He spoke no words yet, but his message to the ungrateful girl was a clear one.

As he rose, he activated an ability, simultaneously muttering profane arcane syllables, barely noticeable; they would be no more than subtle lip movements to the girl across the table. Activating two spells in succession, first, his lament of weakness, and secondly, the curse of fear. As his profane vision, his cursed Wraith Eyes, glazed the blue orbs over with black tar, the world around Sebastian became black, white, shades of gray.

As he stared at the girl with his unseeing eyes, hideous black discs engulfing the pupils, the irises, the whites, everything, he waited for his curses to take hold. The first, the curse of fear would frighten the girl, causing her to fear Sebastian, and possibly flee from, or even attack him. He prayed for the second, as he so desperately wanted to exercise his superiority over the frail beauty.

The second spell, the lament of strength was the same spell he had cast upon her in the forest to prevent her from fleeing. If the spell worked, it would weaken her muscles, draining her physical strength, bringing her to her knees. If she did try to flee, she wouldn't get far.

"If you think that I am familiar with lonely girls from twisted dimensions coming to my doorstep and demanding I wait on them hand and foot, you are sorely mistaken. If I knew what to do to help you, I assure you I would, but as things stand, you seem to be asking I throw you out of my home, and leave you to the wolves of Calmonah," Sebastian spat, his voice rumbling with the fury of the frost element, his tone the steel of living death. "I have offered you food, shelter, and drink. I even offered to teach you the secrets of my power, yet you seem so eager to make for the road..." the sorcerer's eyes shot for the door, before his voice faltered, leaving the sentence for Ashleigh to figure out on her own.

"I assure you if you leave tonight, you will die," Sebastian said, calming down and allowing his Wraith Vision to fade away, the tarry glaze dripping down his face like black tears, revealing his stunning blue eyes once more. "I don't think that, after one evening in Imythess, you are prepared to forfeit your life already, are you?"

Though much calmer now, Sebastian allowed his curse of fear to persist, so the girl would still find horror in his words, clinging to everything he said.
