| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Ausir gasped for air as he was released from the clammy dead hands of his daughter and dragged to the surface. He felt air fill his lungs, rejuevenating his body, and he hauled himself out of the river, watching his daughter swim laps in the shimmering, dark water, her pale skin all he could see in the depths. Hot tears stung his face as he tore it away from the girl and cast his eyes ahead. An image of Tandorus stood before him, the one who had saved him from the river. His shimmering figure appeared to glow with a blue light. It was in the same place the blue orb had been shining when he had found himself here in the first place. He opened his mouth to speak, but found speach did not work. Suddenly, it was not Tandorus, but himself, and the words that were meant to come from his own throat, instead came from his doppelganger: "Tandorus, where do we go? How do we escape this nightmare?" Those were the mocking words of the ghost of himself. Ausir shuddered and took a belabored step towards it. Then another. Then it changed again. Now the glowing blue figure changed once more, shuddering before fading away and reappearing. It was a man, a foot taller than Ausir, with tan, tattooed skin. He wore simple cloths on him, and held in his right hand a long, crooked staff, in his right, a colorful wand. A pair of blue wings spread from his back, and instead of the head of a man, the figure had the head of a blue hawk with piercing red eyes. Ausir took another step. The Avatar of Akhor opened its mouth, speaking in a familiar voice: "Ausir, if this is your past, do not cling to it. Release it. Swear to live everyday to its fullest. Swear to become a better person." Ausir took another step, struggling with everything in him to reach the image of his God, the only one who would save him. As he got nearer, the image became clearer, the shimmering lapis feathers, the golden beak, the ruby eyes. "Free yourself, realize that you need to change, and get the determination to change it!" the bird-God said, and finally, Ausir reached out to touch the vision of Akhor. At once, the God reverted, becoming once more that pure blue light, and Ausir for the first time in his life, felt divinity in his fingers. In a tornado of sand, Ausir's royal garments melted away, his perfect, rosy flesh fell from his bones, all turning to sand. His pain went away, his hunger went away, his thirst went away. And then, the world around him joined them. The cave gave way, darkness imploding to give way to the bright white desert, and near him, Tandorus stood with his family. The sun glared in the elf's red eyes. "This is it, Tandorus. It's really over, isn't it?" the white elf spoke, his tone flat, when suddenly, he awoke. |

Tand turned to see Ausir and nodded at his word, blinking once to awaken to the fairies cheering and screaming in victory, they hadn't been asleep long, and now it was his turn to strike. He jumped to his feet and spread his wings, an almost bird-like call came from his mouth as his raven dove down, it's sharp claws and beak ripping into the wings of the fairies. He took an arrow from his quiver and began firing at them, he turned his head as he saw Ausir's eyes open. Tand smiled and nodded to him, "Remember tha' advice I gave ya in tha' crypt, ya just need ta' be determined enough ta' change, I know ya can do it my friend." His arrows stopped moving as the last of the fairies that hadn't fled fell dead with arrows sticking through their chests. He turned back to Ausir again and spoke somewhat cheerfully, "I think we've both grown from this little experience, ya know ya gotta change and I know I have ta' stop grievin' over my old family, I just gotta keep on movin' and tha' same goes to you Ausir. Though whenever yer in doubt, don't be afraid ta' ask fer me from tha' Istani military, I will always protect all of tha' people of Istan, by any means necessary. Now so long my friend, I gotta get my job done and tha' fastest way is by air." He waved goodbye as he crouched, springing upward into the air, soaring straight up as his wings flapped heavily, he mentally recalled all of his shot arrows to his quiver and took out a single arrow, ready to slaughter any fairies he sees during his flight. |

As the last of the fairies fled, Ausir was still on the ground, making the sound decision that he was in no state to fight the fairies, given his lack of magic or fighting experience. Tandorus, however, was excellent, even at sniping the tiny creatures with his rather large arrows. The fairies knew better than to try the same old tricks twice, and so they fled from the scene, no match for two warriors of Tandorus and Ausir's size. "Thank you, Tandorus... It was nice to see you again," the sorcerer said as his friend departed for the skies, spreading his wings and leaving the scene, black bow shouldered. He was the spitting image of Akhor. It was fitting that Tandorus' words were portrayed by Akhor's image in his dream. He couldn't be certain, but somehow he felt like that dream, as strange as it had been, had been shared by Tandorus, that the black bowman and Ausir truly had shared an adventure in their mutual slumber beyond any the elf had experienced in waking. Perhaps it wasn't really that fantastic. Perhaps Ausir had just forgotten what it was to dream, in much the same way he had forgotten what it was to live. His dream had reminded him. His magic was behind him. He was a new Ausir, and he couldn't cling to his past. Tandorus told him that. Akhor told him that. It was time for a change. It was time for the new Ausir. |
