Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Dear sweet gods of boredom, how long could he drone? A quick glance over her shoulder to the mad woman told Emery that the tales were at least interesting, but she couldn't understand a thing. Worse, since she painted herself as a mute, she couldn't ask they speak in Common. She couldn't ask for anything without breaking her cover. She was trapped, listening to this old elf babble until Imy finally decided to extradite her, which she doubted would ever happen.

Another couple joined the table, two women with the ageless youth that the drow had after they grew and until they were truly ancient, which, in Drow society, was an achievement. Introductions were being made and..oh no. She wasn't of any family, not of any house, great or small. She didn't know the names of any of them. Even if she did, she had no means of conveying it. Perhaps she could pretend she only had a sore throat and it hurt to talk?

She kept her mask on as the three turned to her, the old elf stumbling around, realizing he didn't know who she was beyond a charming young girl who listened so attentively to his tales.

This, Emery realized, was probably the end of the charade, and the end of the line for herself.

After a while, two more Drow joined the tables. They started to introduce themselves and Imy nodded. It didn't seem they were interested in a Human's name, but they turned to Emery expecting some kind of answer. That wouldn't go well, she didn't know the Drow language at all, did she? Not sure what to do, Imy stood up hastily and accidentally knocked something over on the table. The drink spilled over the side of the table and into the lap of one of the Drow, staining her dress most likely.

"Oh my. I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to." The ninja said in Drow and grabbed some napkins off of the table and handed them to the Drow next to her. Who had stood up at this point and holding the stained part of her dress. Her face showed that she was very upset at that. She muttered something under he breath about how the dress belonged to her mother and she started to walk away. Probably off to try and wash the stain out before it dried. The other Drow that was with her stood up to follow, showing concern. Imy sat back down meekly and tried to feel not there. "I didn't mean to." She said, sounding a bit down, in common.

For once, Emery was glad of the mad woman's presence. The potentially damning conversation was abruptly ended when Emery's "clumsy servant" spilled wine all over the woman's dress. She left in a huff, Emery trying to convey through facial expressions alone that, yes, this was a horrible turn of events, and indeed, her servant would be punished severely fro this breach of etiquette.

However, the confirmation that Imy could not only understand Drow but speak it as well more than irked her as she proceeded to look embarrassed toward the old man. He smiled kindly, said something to her, possibly about how one can hardly expect to keep a constant reign on the help. She smiled shyly, and he continued.

She sensed nothing amiss until a heavy, cold hand pressed down on her shoulder. A gruff voice spoke...in Drow. Emery could guess it was a guard, however, and one that didn't sound happy. From the creaking of armor and the harsh whispering filling the room, she brought backup as well. Emery gulped. She didn't know what the guard wanted. Perhaps they were checking to see if a lost purse was hers. Perhaps the drow who got wine spilled on her dress made a complaint. Perhaps they found the two naked drow they left in that bedroom.

Perhaps they connected the two interlopers with the escaped intruders.

Frozen like a deer before the hunter, she waited, trying to form a plan in her mind. All she could think, however, was, I never asked for this. I was planning to turn back.

The gentleman drow she'd been "chatting" with said something to the guards. The guards scoffed at him. There was some back and forth, and suddenly the old drow drew his blade. His face was set like weathered granite, and whatever he said, it was a challenge to the young guard behind Emery. Things were getting more and more complicated, and who knew what the mad woman would do?

I never asked for this. I was planning to turn back.

Imy jumped when a hand grabbed her shoulder and pulled her out of her chair. She was spun around to face the guards that were in that came into the room had found them. Imy's gaze almost went to the shoebox that she had stored underneath her chair. She could have to somehow grab that and make a break for it. The guards were arresting them for attempted assassination of the Matron. She glanced apologetically at Emery while the elderly Drow spoke up in their defense. "Maybe if she was actually assassinated things could get done." Pure blasphemy at this point.

Imy looked over her shoulder as the ancient warrior and the guards went back and forth over how rules were rules and political ideals. It was only moments before the Drpwf drew his Drowish weapon. Imy was now stuck between the two clashing forces with a culture way outside of her understanding. It was almost as if she was forgotten. Perfect. Looking up into the face of one of the guards before spitting poison into his eyes. Dropping his half drawn weapon back into it's sheath, he grabbed his face and back peddled trying to rub the poison out.

With the few moments of distraction, the ancient Drow had moved from his end of the table to theirs and swung his blade at the last remaining guards. Cleaving her arm into two. "Flee, children. The resistance has begun!" He shouted as more people in the room took attention and drew weapons, beginning to cut down what could only be assumed as loyalists. Imy grabbed the shoebox and then Emery by the hand and started to run in a direction there weren't any guards. "What have we done?" The ninja commented

Emery ran bewildered, hand clasped firmly in Imy's. They managed to duck their way through the room of fighting bodies, though she wasn't certain if it was by agility or luck that allowed them to dodged to slicing scimitars. When they reached the relative safety of the hallway and began to run, Emery finally spoke.

"What have we done? I don't know," She said, her annoyance at the mad woman now directed at the world at large. "I was shanghaied by a insane human to murder a drow matron, escaped through a stone wall she punched through, stole some clothes, infiltrated a party, listened to a story I understood nothing about, and the party somehow broke into a fight, which, for all I know, is normal for drow. Honestly, I have no idea what we've done, and I'm hoping we can get back to the surface where things make a modicum of sense. If your curlicued mind would agree to that, I'd be ecstatic!"

Emery's eyes widened as another set of guards ran down the hall toward them. Either they had heard about the ballroom blitz behind them or the escaped infiltrators running loose. Either way, they stopped, weapons drawn and yelled at them to stop. Or perhaps they were wondering if the cheese fondue was good. Emery had no idea. They were speaking Drow again, and that was another reason she wanted to get topside once more. There, she had more than one person to speak to, many of them not inexplicable.

Imy stopped running as the guards started to come down the hallway towards them. "Wait, are you telling me I'm insane?" She questioned as she pulled the small bag of candies out. She opened it and pulled one of the beans out, while holding it between her fingers she closed it and turned to face Emery as their time ran short. "Oh well, forget it, what you think doesn't matter right now. Eat the bean I gave you earlier." The ninja said before popping hers into her mouth.

A small puff of smoke later and an owl flew towards the ceiling. Out of the reach of the Drow's weaponry and circling waiting for Emery to follow in suit, hoping that the Elf had kept the bean that she was given. This wasn't even a solid plan, they had to hope that they could find exits that they can fly through as well. Oh well, what could possibly go wrong?

Emery stared in slackjawed awe as the mad woman's entire form shifted into that of an owl, taking off into the air with a majesty she'd never suspect her of possessing. She dug out her own light grey bean. Well, either this thing would changer her into an owl too, or it was all an elaborate prank on Imy's part. She had little to lose, however, so she popped the tiny thing in her mouth and swallowed.

She felt her entire body shift, limbs shrinking and shifting until she stood on the stone floor as a beautiful white owl flecked with black. The guards began to approach, and she feared she'd be unable to escape by any means beyond the pathetic land waddle of birds. Her new body seemed to impart the necessary knowledge, for her wings began to beat against the air and she found herself aloft on silent feathers, soaring after the mad woman. It was utterly glorious! To sail through the air, to fly again, this time under her own power! She could forgive the mad woman anything now, even if an arrow were to strike her down. Speaking of which...

She followed Imy through an open window; no shutters or panes of glass were needed in a place with no weather. They flew into the open cavern, high into the darkness. Her owl eyes saw through it easily, and her hearing accentuated her sight. She wondered how long the spell would last, but it had to be long enough for them to return to the tunnel back to the surface and flee into the sunlight. She followed Imy, not truly focusing on the direction. For now, she had the joy of flight to experience.
