Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Another cart rumbled past, filled with damned souls heading into the depths of the Dark Lands through wide tunnels crafted just for this purpose. The dark depths here have never known starlight; its illumination came from the magical lights the elves who called this place home called into being. With black skin and snow white hair covered in helms and armor, they took their cargo to the mad palace of the Matron Olis'inth and her Renaissance of Madness and Horror. There, the lucky would die quickly, and the unfortunate would be twisted by back breaking labor or experimentation into things far removed from what they may have been born as.

The carts headed deeper and deeper under the earth, the tunnel growing dark as they vanished. Quietly, a lone figure stepped back into the open. It held up a torch and snapped its fingers, summoning a small spark of flame that brought the torch to life. In the firelight, the cloaked figure was more fully revealed. It had skin as dark as the drow that just past, but the long hair visible under the hood was as black as the void between stars, Wearing simple robes and sandals, it looked about before walking again, following the carts that just past.

Emery's apprehension at his plan was growing with every step. With his freedom regained and his mother long dead, he decided to seek out the only other family member he knew of, or at least his people. It was likely the man who fathered him was dead before he was born: Mum didn't like leaving loose ends behind her. Still, he was lost and directionless. Perhaps joining the drow would give him something to aim for later. If he happened to find his father as well, all the better.

Rumors and questions had pointed to this road. Assurances said it lead to drow, but the only drow he saw were heavily armored and acted more like brutes toward those under their power than the elegant, graceful, enigmatic people his mother described. He'd been too frightened to reveal himself thus far, dousing his flame and hiding whenever he heard a rumble. At this rate, he might as well return to the surface.

Still, he'd come this far. He should at least see the end, wherever it lead. He kept walking, ears perked for any sound.

Imythess hung onto the outside of a cart moving through the tunnels when one past by her. Now this was some proper ninja work! Sneaking in, aiming to assassinate the Drow leader causing whatever mess the Spirit was talking about. To be honest she was busy eating breakfast when he was trying to explain it to her and the crunching of cereal, which totally exists this far back, was much louder. Of course the Spirit was upset at being asked what he just said and said to just get going and didn't bother with the details again.

After a while she had jumped off of the cart they almost caught her. Moving to hide behind an outcropping of rocks, she peeked around it when the wagon kept going. They were going to even stop and check? Amateur villains! Before she could continue on her path, something stood in the open of the tunnels again and lit a torch. It was one of the Dark Elves, did he come to look for her?

While he was looking the other way, the ninja ran out from her spot. Once again thankful for her boots making her foot steps almost soundless. The girl pulled out her dagger and went to hold it in front of his throat. With her other hand she went to grab his hair and pull his head back. "Excuse me, but you're going to help me." She whispered into his ear.

He pulled back his hood, letting the air of the tunnel wash over his ears along with any sounds that might come by. Thankfully, the carts were loud things, Drow didn't expect anyone to willingly come down the tunnel, and all noise was amplified in this place. It would be impossible for someone to sneak up on him here.

"Excuse me, but you're going to help me," a voice whispered into his ear, just after his head was yanked back by the hair and a sharp edge was pressed against his throat.

Well, he stood corrected. It sounded female, so he activated his Mark and changed genders. Emery had found that people usually handled situations with their own gender best. She wasn't yet afraid, but she was angry. How dare this sneak touch her hair. Her eyes narrowed as she held still.

"Let me go," she said calmly, her voice tinted with ire. "Or I will make you let go."

Truthfully, Emery had no means of forcing her freedom, but she focused on a second tattoo she owned, gifted by her mother. By gentle measures, her scent changed from that of a elf to the combined scents of every rotten thing he could imagine. She held her breath since she was far from immune from the odor. By the time her assailant noticed, it would be too potent for her to do anything but back away. Assuming she didn't slit Emery's throat in the process, the elf could run. It was too bad this place was carved from solid rock. Her escape would be much easier if they stood on soft earth.

"This isn't a ga, oh gods." Imy said and backed away from the Drow. Dropping her dagger in the process. The girl gagged from the smell whatever was coming off of this stinky Elf. She stumbled towards the wall and braced herself against it with one arm. She breathed in again and proceeded to puke on the ground. It didn't help that the smell reminded her of the times she had to fight walking corpses. After recomposing herself, she turned back to face the horrible smell, covering her noise and wiping her mouth with her sleeve. "I would've smelled that before I got close, make it go away before I kill you for insubordination." She ordered while trying to not breath. The idea of even breathing the smell into her mouth was nasty.

Emery did make the smell go away. It was only a moment's thought to break off the source, and a quick sprint to remove himself from the cloud of stench in the air.

She ran down the tunnel, her torch thrown to the ground, relying entirely on her night vision. The tunnel, for her, was still only vague shadows, but the floor was free of debris for the slave carts that passed by at regular intervals. She was worried about the threat the attacker gave, but she had an advantage. At a quick glance, she looked as though she was a full drow, someone who belonged in these tunnels. The woman chasing her, most likely, wouldn't. Either way, the guards would focus more on the one with the knife rather than the unarmed one.

If she could make it to the carts, she should be able to slip through and leave her assailant to deal with the guards. They couldn't have gotten far..."

Once the smell was gone, Imy couldn't help but react almost instantly when the Drow tried to run. Scooping up the dagger she dropped, the ninja followed her query. This wasn't good, she was going to tell everyone else that the great ninja, Imythess, was here to ruin their plans! This wasn't happening! Of course after chasing her for a little bit, Imy noticed she was gaining on her. Lovely.

Once close enough, the ninja jumped off of the ground and in front of the Drow. Holding her palm outwards towards the prey, took a stance. "Stop!" She demanded, forgetting the fact that killing her and hiding the body would probably be a much easier solution than trying to reason with someone that was trying to ruin your entire plan and held allegiance for this Evil Drow Matron.

"Stop!" her attacker demanded...from ahead of Emery. Now she began to panic. She had no idea who this stranger in the tunnels was, what kind of help they wanted, or how they moved so quickly. She turned, running back the other way, panic setting in. What could she want? Was she with the monks? She was still bewildered by life outside the monastery. How was she supposed to deal with this?

Perhaps she could find some lose rocks, a side tunnel that caved in. Perhaps she could burrow her way through it to freedom. Maybe she was about to feel a blade in her back.

"Leave me alone!" she shouted in her anxiety. Now all Emery thought of was getting out and getting away. She doubted she could, but damned if she wouldn't try.

Imythess frowned when her target turned around and started running in the other direction. Why couldn't they just surrender!? It would make it so much easier on both of them if everyone just aimed to be beneficial to the greater good and all of that stuff! Once the Drow started running again, Imy followed suit and only let her get so far before tackling her, attempting to bring her to the ground. If that didn't work, at least cling to her and hopefully hold her back or drag her to the ground. "No!"

Emery was knocked to the ground, her attacker pinning her in place. Her days at the monastery hadn't prepared her for combat, so she could only flail desperately, trying to free herself. It wasn't working, however.

"Let me go!" she shouted again. "I can't help you! I don't know what you want! I don't have anything! Let me go or..." She trailed of, remembering that she didn't have any threats worth making. She couldn't outrun her, couldn't escape her, and now she was pinned, helpless, on the cold stone. Choking back her terror, she settled. "What do you want?" she asked. Whoever this person was, they weren't going to leave her be.

Once the girl was on the ground, Imythess pulled her arm behind her back and forced it upwards to the point it's very noticeable and can leak into being very painful at any moment's notice. Imy moved a bit and positioned her knee on the Elf's lower back and put her weight on it. "You can help me if you just listen. The first thing I want is information on what's going on with that Drow May-tron. The second thing I want is help in infiltrating this May-tron's house. I'm think you could do that, what do you think?" The ninja explained and was ready to bend the Elf's arm upwards at any words of doubt of the situation. "Of course if you're no use to me I can always just tie you up and leave you here so you can't go run off and tell anyone. Wouldn't be my fault if you happened to get run over my another cart."

Emery strained at the angle of her spine. She felt she could almost hear it creak and groan at the limits of its flexibility. She focused more on inhaling with this odd posture than what the mad woman said. However, it seemed she wanted information, even though she knew much more than Emery did about what was happening below, despite her odd pronunciation of the word "Matron."

"I...Don't know...anything about...a Matron..." Emery managed to say. "I've...never been here...before...I just came...to try and...find my father..." She recalled the penalty of being unable to help at all, however. She had no friends or allies, especially this far down. Being tied up would be death, carts or no.

"But..." She gasped to add. "Maybe...I can help...infiltrate...wherever you're wanting to...go...I probably look...more drowish than you...Could you...put me down?....It's hard....to breath..."

Imythess sighed and got off of the Elf. Not letting go of her arm, the ninja pulled her up to a standing position. In time to hear a wagon coming. She roughly moved off to the side of the while pulling her new little helper with her. As a precaution, Imy covered the Elf's mouth so she didn't cry out for help or anything as the wagon passed. Lights from a lantern flashed as it moved through the tunnels, but they were generally unnoticed. Once it was gone she let go of the Elf's mouth. "First, tell me your name. Second, what I do know is that there are a lot of slaves and handlers where we're going. I'm going to pretend to be your slave so we can get in with much less trouble. Once in I'm going to do what I have to do and you're going to find out what you can from talking to the other slave owners or whatever they have down there. Afterward I get any information out of you I will leave and never bother you again. Capiche?"

"Um..." Emery wasn't certain what "Capiche" meant, but the entirety of the plan sounded like it wouldn't work well. Emery had never needed subterfuge her entire life; that had been her mother's area, and the monks frowned on lying. She only knew about Drow from tales. She didn't know their language, their customs, their small quirks and injokes that marked them as "drow" and other dark skinned, pointy eared interlopers as "outsiders." However, she did have a very insistent mad woman with a knife at her back. It would be best to play along for now.

"I understand?" she said, hoping that's what "Capiche" meant. "I'm Emery. I'll do this." She paused in thought. "Did it...take you long to think of this plan?"

"I just came up with it now, why do you ask?" Imy said and released the Elf's arm from it's hold. Walking out to the middle of the tunnel, she pointed in the direction that the wagon just went. "Either way, we're off, Emery! To be heroes!" She said and waited for Emery to start walking before she moved on her own, making sure her helper was following.

While on the trip there, Imythess pulled her backpack off and started to look through it. Pulling a few things out, she slipped the bag back into it's proper place. She looked at the small bag of candy and took one out. Turning around in a spin, she walked backwards and faced Emery. "In case of an emergency and you need to escape, eat this." She said and held out the Owl Bean to him. Once he took it she would return to facing the proper direction. She put on the cloak she pulled out of her pack as well.

Shan took the small pebble from the mad woman. It was small, lightish-dark, and bean shaped. She squeezed it slightly and found the surface yielding. Well, she doubted that mad woman was planning to poison him, though who knew what was going on in her head? She pocketed it, saving it for when a quick death by poison would be the best option. Her attacker seemed to be human, with black hair, light skin, and simple clothing.

"From what I know of matrons in general," Emery said as they walked, hoping more information of any sort would appease the mad woman, "It's doubtful we could infiltrate our way to her. Drow matrons, most of them, have a small circle of advisers, guards, and servants that meet them directly. It can take centuries of trust building and careful political maneuvering to ever have an audience with her. Even family members must go through this process. Especially family members." This was true, at least, for the drow clan her mother had grown to know. She didn't bother with the high royalty, as she was only there to pass the time for a few decades while the humans about aged and forgot about her. The lower nobility had just the right amount of wealth, less strict policies about making new friends, and were far more open to hosting an exotic and alluring moon elf.

Really, her father probably was dead, and she didn't have a family name to go on, assuming they would be friendly toward the child of their relative's murderer. This whole endeavor was one giant mess. She moved slowly, not wanting to catch up with the slave carts, until the cavern opened up into a glittering black hall. Emery gasped, her magpie-like affinity toward sparkles swept her eyes around the giant cave, barely noting the made castle of stone and obsidian that dominated this place.

The peace didn't last long, as they were stopped by two drow covered in black armor holding spears and shields. They spoke in commanding tones, sharp and harsh, but Emery understood not a word. Her mother never taught him the language of the Dark Lands. She tried to stand tall, but her helplessness made her shrink. "Could we...Could we perhaps...speak in Common? I am...I am fresh from trading on the surface and am still acclimated to those...damned Surfacers' tongue...Hail the Matron."

The two guards started at her, then at each other. One spoke to Emery again.

"Yes?" She said, still uncertain.

"Ah, forgive us," said one of the guards. "Are you here to sell your wares? Perhaps your...slave?"

"Yes...Yes! Yes I am," Emery beamed. This was working! Amazing!

"Very good. Please come this way," One of the guards said with a sweep of her arm. Emery smiled and followed. This was going well. Perhaps the mad woman wasn't so mad after all.

They were led to a spacious room with several chairs and a small table of food. "If you would just wait here, friend merchant," the guard said, ushering them inside and closing the door behind him.

Emery smiled. "Well, then, what-"

She heard a click. She looked at the door, realizing just how heavy it was, and how it was well set in the stone walls around it. There were no windows in this room, either, and nothing that could be used as an improvised weapon caught her eye. The chairs were stone and carved out of the floor itself. Emery feared trying the food now as well.

"I...I think they were on to us..." Emery said, rubbing her hands. "I...I think we're trapped."
