Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The woman in a black dress walked out of the light, into the shadows of the alleyways. Taras was slowly beginning to crawl back up to it's former glory, enough to once more have alleyways that could hide some of the more exciting activity. A man stumbled as he followed her, absolutely sure the woman was leading him to have a good time. He had a few drinks in him so he did not think that perhaps the woman had darker intents on her mind.

When he reached the alleyway he looked down and saw no one. Sighing in disappointment he turned around, jumping as the woman in the black dress was behind him. "Hello, there," she whispered, her voice sultry and seductive as she quickly wrapped herself around him. "I didn't mean to scare you." It was obvious she knew how to keep hold of an easy mark when she got one, and he smiled like an idiot.

"You didn't scare me," he said, reassuring. "Big, strong men like me don't get scared." Just like a man to act like a fool around a beautiful woman, but at least he was a doomed to die before also showing her every reason she needed to rip him apart.

Diana Sin smiled darkly, pushing him further in the darkness of the alleyway before revealing the sort of woman she really was. "Oh, so this doesn't scare you at all?" she asked, the shadow black tendrils slithering out of her back and grabbing his arms before he could react.

"What the-" he began to yell, but was silenced by a third tendril that coiled over his mouth and turned any screams uselessly muffled. Her grip was tight as she let her grin widen, showing her fangs. She did not need to say a word as she watched his eyes widen in panic, the tendril pulling his head to the side, leaving his neck exposed to her. She bit down quickly with a lot of force and started drinking in the needed blood. They were always so easy.

At the end of every week, the Garath brothers would take to the local bar to relax and unwind. It baffled Nomad that they would take such a huge risk after earning so many enemies. Their company, Garath & Garath, was becoming a major player in the restoration of Taras, but their shady business practices began cutting into the profits of Nomad's patron, Kirsikka Enterprises. The straw that broke the camel's back -- for Nomad, at least -- was when the older brother made a lewd comment about Lumi Kirsikka herself. She wouldn't tolerate that sort of disrespect to her boss.

In the tavern, Nomad was paying more attention to the brothers' conversation than the book she was reading. Wearing plainclothes, she blended right in with the heavy crowd of the night. They spoke in slurred masonry jargon, although their conversation often meandered to matters of women and other depravities. Nomad boiled with disgust as their words grew more and more insulting, but she controlled herself enough to keep from drawing attention.

Now they were making bets as to who could woo the woman across the room. Admittedly she was attractive, although by no means comparable to the striking features of Nomad's boss. Porcelain-white skin, black hair -- reminiscent of a vampire, one of the many creatures of the night that Nomad was readily acquainted with. Of course, Nomad couldn't make assumptions; she was simply drawing comparisons. To the agent's surprise, the woman appeared to notice the leering of the Garath's brothers and actually approached them. Nomad couldn't help but stare in a mixture of surprise and horror at the conversation that resulted. Eventually she chose one -- the younger of the two -- and led him out of the bar.

This was bad. If Nomad couldn't set up a clean, quick double-kill, the remaining brother would take all his assets and run from Taras for good. She didn't want that; it meant that he would disappear from her surveillance temporarily so he could cause havoc somewhere else. To prevent this, she waited a few minutes before getting up and following them. Hopefully the other brother would stay here so she could come back for him.

Nomad stalked them on rooftops, moving deftly between alleyways hopefully unnoticed. She finally came upon the pair standing in one of the more remote alleys. The agent witnessed the younger brother's final moments: the tendrils of shadow and the bite. She waited until the vampire was done before leaping down from the rooftop in front of her.

"W-wait." She kept her hands in view to indicate that she wasn't a threat, even though a bow hung at her back and a knife was strapped to her outer thigh. "Are you... are you still hungry? There's..." Nomad took a deep breath to compose herself. She wasn't used to speaking so spontaneously to other people. "I'm sort of like you, and- and I needed that man dead. That man you just killed. Him and his brother. I've been waiting all night for an opening on them, but you lured this one out so easily... could you do that again for me? I know it's an odd request from a stranger, but I'll compensate you for it."

Diana fed well on the man, and when he was surely dead and no longer much of a drink she let his body drop to the ground. She was prepared to walk away, sating her thirst for the night and vanishing, leaving the brother to be found by his sibling later as another victim in a string of attacks. Of course, she would like to have the other brother eliminated so she wouldn't see any wanted posters for a vampire that looked like her getting around. But, it was not like she would care to come back here again, and probably didn't matter enough to wait for a while before going in and coming up with some excuse as to why his brother was not back as well.

A figure interrupted her thoughts and she turned around in surprise, hissing at the stranger who had her hands raised to indicate she was not a threat. Diana's eyebrows raised in curiosity as to why someone would do this, but she could see a slight inhuman quality in the woman, especially when she openly said she was 'like her'. Diana looked cautious but listened as the woman tried her best to not stammer as she asked Diana to take out the other brother for her.

It seemed Diana had accidentally interfered with an assassin's plan by killing one of the brothers rather then both. "What sort of compensation might that be, dear?" she asked, and unlike the woman Diana seemed comfortable talking with people. It was perhaps because that had become one of her primary methods of hunting. "And I must say I would hate to do your dirty work without some guarantee of acquiring something for it." Truth be told, she would have killed men like that brother for her own amusement, but there was no need to tell the woman that when she might could get some gold from this deal, or perhaps some other reward.

Now that the vampire wasn't openly hostile to her, Nomad took a couple steps forward so she could be heard even when speaking more quietly. "You would receive a large portion of money," she explained. "And any valuables they might have on their bodies."

She didn't think it was necessary to explain who she was, who she worked for and why these men were targeted; not only did she want to keep the vampire from lashing out at her in boredom, but it would also put Nomad in a better spot if this job were to suddenly go bad, for whatever reason.

"The older brother is a fool, but he's more paranoid than the younger. He's... it's kind of personal, for me and him. If it's at all possible, I'd like to be the one to deal the killing blow on him." She wrung her hands together either in a fit of anxiety or anger. "It might be harder to convince him. J-just lure him somewhere safe, I'll follow you on the rooftops and make sure he doesn't get away. Is that alright with you, miss...?" Nomad trailed off, fishing for a name.

Diana nodded. Truth be told, money was good enough for her to take on the risks, though she hoped it was worth her while. She would ask how much at some point. As she thought about it, and the assassin seemed to need her, she felt alright in taking her attention of the woman to check the man, taking what she could from him. He was wealthier then she first thought, and she wondered what he and his brother did to earn a price on their head. Oh well, it didn't really matter much to her as long she got something from their deaths more then the joy of seeing them scream out in pain.

"Sin," she informed the woman on her name, rising from the raided corpse. "Diana Sin, and I do hope I have not been careless enough to have my name recognized. I like to think I have been careful enough to not become infamous." Diana eyed the assassin for a moment, wondering about this apparent personal grudge she had with the elder brother. "As you wish, I'll give you the chance to kill him if I can."

She eyed the tavern door, knowing she could not do this too fast or it might tip off the man that something more then a good time happened to his brother. "Might take a few minutes for him to be satisfied," she said, leaning down and grabbing the body, lifting it up and then throwing it up to the rooftops with no care to what damage it would receive. He was dead, what did she care? "May I ask how much you'll pay me?" She kept herself calm and polite, unlike her anxious new 'friend' here.

Hopefully the time it would take to take on the little details would be enough for the brother to nit be suspicious that she had returned so soon.

Nomad nodded at Diana's hope that she hadn't become infamous. The agent had never heard of the name before, and that was exactly what the vampire woman wanted. She kept her head lowered formally for several seconds, almost like a shallow bow, when she allowed Nomad to take the killing blow for herself. The older brother's comments about Nomad's employer were so unforgivably crude that only his death would merit a proper apology for them.

She watched the vampire use her superior strength to hurl the dead body into the rooftops. It crashed limply into the shingles but got caught on a ledge, leaving it there. No doubt it would take days for people to realize it was there -- the stench would probably cause someone to climb up and investigate long after both Nomad and Sin were far away from the scene.

Since they would have to wait a while longer, Nomad backed off and lowered herself into a sitting position with her back against the alley wall. Resting her forearm on her bent knee, she listened to Diana's other question. "A box containing four-hundred Tarasian crowns will find you shortly after the job is done," she said. "I don't have the money on me right now. If you need proof, or you don't have a home where we can send it to you, then I have some extra time to travel with you afterward until it's sent." She spoke slowly, helping her pick her words easier and preventing her from stumbling as badly as when she first introduced herself.

It wouldn't be bad, anyway. They both preferred to be nocturnal, and Nomad considered herself immune to the strange charisma vampires often possessed. Keeping an eye on Diana out of her peripherals, Nomad laid her head against the wall of the alley and waited for the perfect time to finish the job.

Diana Sin smiled. Four hundred crowns was nothing to sniff at, especially when one lived on the road like she did. "I move from place to place by wagon, so I might have to take you up on that temporary companionship," she said. "Hope you don't mind pets." She winked, though the woman seemed to be a lot more focused on the job ahead to acknowledge any light flirting. Diana at least had someone to practice on her charms for a little while, though it made her think of another woman she knew. It was best not to think about someone she couldn't be with, no matter how much she wanted to.

She waited for little while longer, until finally she felt she had been out long enough to not seem suspicious. "Wish me luck," she said as she went back into the tavern, carrying an expression that her time with the younger brother had been a mixed bag of sorts. She had to keep the image in her head of how good a time the younger brother might have shown her if he had been given the chance to really perform. The expression she created was one that it had been good, but all too short.

"There I go, tiring out another one all to soon," she said to herself, at least loud enough for the older brother to hear. As though she had only just thought of him, she gave the man a look, as though sizing him up and comparing the two. She hoped her acting was good enough to work on him, keeping a look as though she were debating trying one more time for some satisfaction.

At last she went to the table. "May I take this seat again?" she asked with a smile. Come on, take the bait. He had to want to show the pretty lady a better time then his brother had, surely.

Sickening. The man was already chatting up another woman when Diana reentered the tavern. Nomad had her back pressed against the outside wall of the tavern, her form mostly obscured by shadows, with her head turned so that she could see clearly into the building through its side window.

What was even more offensive -- albeit advantageous for them -- was how quickly he dismissed the other woman in favor of the vampire. The skinny little blonde looked indignant and stormed off, tossing a glare at Diana on her way out. The older brother's cheeks were glowing by now, and he blatantly looked the vampire up and down before patting the bar stool next to him. "I kept it warm for you," he noted cheerfully. Nomad had to physically restrain herself from outright scoffing.

The exchange that followed was honestly disgusting to her. Nomad actually felt bad for Diana, since she had to act impressed by his tired pick-up lines or crude comments disguised as compliments. That man really had no restraint, and the extra drinks in him weren't helping with that.

Once the vampire sealed the deal, Nomad waited a few seconds before following them. She kept her footfalls quiet, but remained casual. Being dressed like a civilian helped a lot with that.

The eldest brother was exactly what Diana had expected in just about any man, being an incredible egotistical. Even though he disgusted her to her very core, she took the seat with a smile that told him he was worth all the praise he granted himself. To an outsider Diana like the assassin watching it might have seemed Diana was a master manipulater, charming him into keeping his defenses low. While Diana was no novice in the art of manipulating men, all she did was be what a man like this wanted in a woman, listen quietly to how grand he was and speak only to massage his ego.

It did not take long to know she had him, letting him lead her away from the tavern. He was different from his brother enough that she knew the old 'lead into a dark alley' tactic would not work as well. He was a man that demanded to be in charge, and tricking him into thinking he had control would be a little difficult. There was a chance he would only lead her into well guarded areas of the city, which was not good for her assassin friend in the slightest. How would she make him move somewhere where a murder could go without a hitch? Perhaps she should-

A shadow in an alleyway interrupted her train of thought, and she could see the large shape of a worg there. Ashlynn was always a strikingly independent creature who did as she pleased and had a different view on who was pet between the two of them. She had meant the worg to stay at with the wagon, but it seemed she had gotten bored waiting and went to look for her. "Ah!" cried out Diana, as though frightened by her own pet. "What's that?" She pointed at the worg and winked to hint that Ash could help in this.

Ash, taking the hint, started to dash down into the alley. "That looked like a dangerous creature," said Diana, still trying to sound startled. "I'm sure a man like you could rid the city of it, though." She beamed at the elder brother, knowing now she had put him on the spot. He had been so prideful, if he had backed down from looking better to this woman it might get around that he was a coward. While on some this would not work, he struck her as the sort of man that didn't want to be looked down on by a woman. It also gave him a chance to play hero, and men did a great many stupid things to appeal to pretty ladies like Diana.

The older brother, in an attempt to mask the fact that he was almost as startled as Diana played herself off as being, clumsily rummaged around his coats. He slid a hunting knife out of its concealment. "Don't worry, babe. I've got this." Realizing this was the opportunity they were waiting for, Nomad darted off into the darkness.

The streets of Taras were completely abandoned save for the oafish man loudly walking through. He'd occasionally stumble and press an arm against a nearby building to right himself before continuing after the sounds of his quarry. It wasn't long before he got hopelessly turned around, not sure of where he actually was or where Diana went. A thick fog was rolling through the streets, further inhibiting his ability to even see the worg. It became almost painfully quiet.

"...Hello?" he called out, a hint of uncertainty in his voice. He gripped his hunting knife tighter and kept searching.

After what felt like an eternity but was only a few minutes, the older brother caught a glimpse of a black tail disappearing into a nearby alleyway. He rushed after it and turned the corner, but quickly slowed to a stop when he saw what was on the other side.

The worg was even bigger than he thought, and it rounded behind the silhouette of a woman. She had one hand on the nape of its neck, petting its rough fur, while a knife gleamed in the other. Mist seemingly rose from the point where she was standing, twisting around her before joining the rest of the cloud. When the moonlight and street lamps hit it, the fog provided a perfect backdrop. Nomad patted the worg and whispered a quick "Thank you" before approaching him.

"Gareth Diamanto," she named, her fingers tightening on her knife. He lashed out at her with a belligerent shout. Nomad stepped into the strike, grabbed his hand and torqued his fingers hard enough to send the hunting knife clattering on the ground. In the same motion she dug her own knife hilt-deep into his chest. Gareth's shouting abruptly stopped. His eyes lost focus, staring at a point beyond Nomad, while he quietly gurgled. "A gift from Kirsikka Enterprises." She momentarily acted on her bottled rage by twisting the knife hard in the wound and ripping it out. The agent stepped back and allowed him to collapse, dead.

Nomad cleaned her knife on his clothing and turned back toward her surprisingly helpful partner-in-crime. "Worg, are you hungry?" She motioned to the corpse. "It's the least I can do for your troubles."

Ash the Worg felt oddly comfortable with woman petting her, perhaps similar to the way she felt at ease when she first met Diana. After taking her kill, the assassin offered the wolfish creature a meal out of it. She bent down to the dead man, sniffed him to see if he smelled good enough to eat and then bit down. It would not take long until the man would be so eaten that his death might be thought of as a vicious animal attack rather then a murder.

Diana walked calmly close. "I see you've met Ash," she said with a smile, giving Ash a pat as she came close. "You were supposed to wait at the wagon, you know." The worg growled in response, as though arguing against her. "Yeah, yeah, you never listen to me." Looking at the assassin, she could steal see the gleam of blood on the knife. "Looks like we all did our jobs. Not too bad for four hundred in pay, I think."

Diana watched to see that Ashlynn had eaten what she liked, as humans did not really have enough meat to be a full meal. "Well, until I get paid, I suppose you're my guest." She turned and began to lead the way, Ashlynn walking close behind. "And I just remembered that I haven't even gotten your name yet. My apologies, I get into my work a little too much at times. May I ask for it now?"

The worg left the corpse in a mangled enough state to pass off as an animal attack, at least. Their work was done here. Nomad was eager to leave the scene of the crime, following close after Diana. Apparently the creature was the vampire's pet, associated with a wagon that no doubt carried all the essentials to her transient lifestyle. It wasn't often that Nomad saw domesticated worgs -- before this, she had only seen them in the wild or limited to half-citizenship positions in Balefire pulling carts and assisting the local watch. The creature must have deemed Diana trustworthy enough to follow around.

Diana asked her for her name. The agent seemed mildly surprised by the offer, having forgotten to mention it as well. As usual, she went by her nickname. "Call me Nomad." She was content to leave it at that for the next few minutes and follow her new traveling companion in silence.

Occasionally Nomad would glance over to the worg named Ash. It looked healthy enough, and happy. "Where do you plan to go next?" she finally asked, given quite a bit of time to think over her words and make sure she didn't stumble over them. "I may be able to find an informant from my organization within the next few days, depending on where we are going. Then they should get the money to you not long after that."

Nomad? Certainly that must be a nickname of sorts, or she had unimaginative parents who decided to flip open the dictionary and pick a word at random. Oh well, Diana had often gone under aliases herself and considering this woman was an assassin it was not too much a stretch to think she would like to stay as anonymous as possible. Diana could hardly fault her for that.

Then the question came where she would like to go next, and Diana looked up to the sky in thought. "Truth be told, I have nowhere specific to go," she admitted. "So I suppose wherever you think I would be most likely to quickly get my reward for helping you." They neared the wagon about now, and it truly looked like a dark gypsy wagon. Of course, it was also guarded by a gigantic undead man who had a wisp and an Imp dancing above his head. Sometimes Diana felt she needed to find ways to hide them so as not to draw attention. Oh well, better to plan for that later.

"Here we are, home, sweet home," she said. Both the imp and the wisp instantly moved to orbit around her. "I can assure you it's perfectly comfortable for two, although I don't suppose you'll be quite as fun as my last guest." Her thoughts went to Victoria and for a moment her face fell at the thought, a touch of sadness in her eyes.

"Hm, p-provided that you don't somehow end up in one of the parallel planes, they can reach us," Nomad answered, clasping her hands in front of her. Realizing she was still being vague when it was not really necessary anymore, she decided to give a quick explanation of where she was coming from. "My organization is called Kirsikka Enterprises. You may have heard of us. We have business interests throughout Imythess. I would argue we're the most widespread and profitable arms dealership in the country. That is why..."

Nomad stopped. The wagon was far fancier than the assassin had expected, more like a nomad's wagon than one that would belong to a caravan master or other traveler. What really caught her eye, though, was the massive man standing near it. Something was distinctly off about him. Maybe it was how tall he was, or his sort of listless bearing, or his leathery and dead-looking skin. Nomad didn't ask about him. Or the others. Instead, she finished what she trailed off on earlier. "That is why they can find us wherever we are."

The vampire made a comment that caused Nomad to toss her a surprised, questioning stare reminiscent of an owl. The expression of emotion, however vague it was, at least showed that Nomad was making an attempt to warm up to her new traveling partner. She wasn't exactly sure what to make of the offhanded comment, so she stiffly started walking toward the wagon, talking as she went. "I-I-I am sure that I'll be unobtrusive company, at least. I am very quiet."

Diana flinched when she heard 'Kirsikka Enterprises', showing she had heard of it but hopefully she could hide her immediate opinion. It was a shame, as she was beginning to like this one just when she realized she was allied with an enemy. She had to be prepared to drop her quickly and get the hell away from here and hope no one could connect her to the murder of the assassin.

But then, she saw the woman attempt to be warm. There was no reason to kill her, just because Zenjirou associated with the same company. Besides, last she saw of Zenjirou he was not exactly still the type to take orders anymore, having devolved further into his murderous tendencies and made deals with some demonic entity for greater power. Perhaps she should make sure there wasn't any chance of her payment being delivered by Zenjirou. That would get awkward fast.

"Last person I met working for Kirsikka Enterprises wasn't quiet," she said, opening up the wagon to reveal the inside while keeping her eyes locked on Nomad. The wagon was as nice on the inside as it was outside, with Diana's property set up on the walls for easy access. There was no bed, but instead the floor was lined with soft furs good enough for any bed and as Nomad would likely find was comfortable to sleep on. There were a couple of odd things, like a jar of dark dirt in the corner but it did not seem too unnatural or frightening, except a floating fire elemental that kept things lit and appeared quite happy to see Diana return.

"He wasn't nearly as friendly to me, either," she continued. "That Zenjirou is quite the annoyance." She watched carefully for Nomad's reaction, looking to see how she would take Diana knowing her co-worker.
