Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Unexpected Cellmate; With Emily

"Move, vampire," cried the guard, slapping her sore back to move her forward quicker. She hissed in pain at him but kept moving, the cold bracer's on her arm keeping her magic at bay, and with her weapons taken away she had nothing. One meal gets away and suddenly she was caught off guard by a squad of paladins. She still was not sure how she was captured, or how they had brought her up to these mountains. There was nothing like a trial, but then again her crime was a simple one, being undead.

She had no idea why the Paladins kept them alive. Perhaps they were researching the undead, finding new and more efficient means to kill them? Or perhaps they felt like they could find some cure for them. She honestly didn't know or care enough about their motives, concentrating more on studying as she came into the prison. Of course, they prevented this a little by keeping her blindfolded on the way in, only removing it as they began to pass by the cells. There were a long of cells, and she saw all sorts of undead abominations.

As she moved forward, a sword entered her path as the paladins stopped, and made sure she knew to stop as well. A cell was open and Diana found herself pushed in. Looking around she found someone who seemed mostly normal for an undead, a young looking male she could probably take on with her own strength with or without magical enhancement. The cell was locked and the two were left alone to get to know eachother.

"Can't believe it," she whispered under her breath. She looked at her new cellmate and sniffed the air. He smelled a little like Emily. "Yep, undead everywhere, so not a drop of blood to drink." She groaned, wishing she had at least tried to get a sip off of her captors, having gotten the dark thirst on her way to this prison. She had to figure out how to get out of here quickly before she went into a lack of blood coma.

Evals looked up when her cell was open. She was sitting on the floor, one leg flopped off to the side and another with her knee sticking upwards. One of her wrists wrested on her knee while her hand and other wrist dangling off, connected by the magical handcuffs. She stopped whistling her tune and looked up at the person they were throwing in. It was most likely a Vampire by how things were going. No blood to feed on here. Evals sat in a disguise that was generated from a Gemini Tattoo. She was disguised as a male, looking around the same size as she did before, only a little taller and broader frame.

The Vampire that was thrown in was familiar looking. Ah, Diana. There was something missing though. No rain cloud, so she took that out. Oh well, that could've been worse. Not like the bandit knew who was in the cell with her, at least Evals assumed she didn't know. Vampires couldn't smell that well, could they? "Howdy." She said with a weak smile on her face, in a much more boyish voice. "I'm sure you'll get your hands on some sooner or later. They won't let you die just yet."

Least she now knew as it spoke that it was at least an intelligent undead. It would have been annoying if she had gotten stuck with some mere walking corpse that moaned and kept trying to eat her. "Hello," she called back. It was good to know that she would not go completely hungry, but she doubted a bunch of paladins would let her have her fill. It would still be better to get out then be fed like pet. She almost growled at that sort of thought. "Any idea what exactly it is these Paladins are keeping us around for?"

She moved to the door of the cell, testing it. While the place looked quite dark, and if not for the undead in the cells might have looked abandoned, the cell door would not be easily be broken down for an escape attempt. Her mind worked around with any plans she could make, and despite her desire to escape a continuing hunger let her know that she would not have that much energy for this attempt. She might have to actually be patient her for while.

"Name's Diana," she said, trying to get acquainted with her oddly familiar possible pawn while she was here. "What's yours?" She looked back to the boy. Knowing undead, he could have died any time, after all, Emily had certainly been older then she looked. Best not to assume he was as old as he looked.

Evals shrugged at the mention of what the Paladins wanted them for. That's what she was here to find out and possibly take down this entire prison while she was at it. Only being here for a day so far she hadn't found out much. "Forced labour? Experiments? Research? Giggles? Don't know, I haven't really moved much since I was put in here myself." She said and stared down at her cuffed wrists. Starting to twirl her fingers in a pattern to pass the time, she would twiddle her thumbs if the cuffs didn't keep her hands too far apart. Stupid wooden things.

"Shan." She lied, picking a name on the spot. Stealing Shan's name, he wouldn't mind, would he? Probably not, not like it mattered much in this situation. "So how did they catch you?"

Diana was disappointed with the lack of information, but she guessed it was more then she could hope for at this point. It seemed as though she would have to wait to see those answers, but patience would be hard for someone who so loved her personal freedom. She looked back at the boy and flinched at the name Shan. "Two Shans I know now," she whispered to herself. "Suppose it must be a common name somewhere in the world." She shrugged it off as nothing but a coincidence.

"I was recovering from a battle I didn't even get too fight myself," she answered his question. "Vampire needs blood to recover, so I went hunting and happened to be caught by Paladins, much to my surprise. I suppose I should call it another case of bad luck. I do mostly run into the worst sort of people and situations." She played a little with her own cuffs and sighed. These wouldn't be too easy to remove, either. Perhaps not impossible, but she was only get enough to get out of ropes and such.

"And how did they get you?" she asked, giving her new friend here her full attention if only to show she cared. Of course, that face was a lie, she didn't care. After all, this was a little boy, and if circumstances were different she would be gleefully torturing him in the company of her pets.

Of course, as she stared at him, she could see a slight resemblance to Emily that made her rethink that thought. She imagined in her mind destroying the creature only to learn that she had killed Emily's long lost brother and now there would be hell to pay for the offense. Best to simply part ways if and when they escaped if only to avoid finding out if her imagination was true.

Evals gave a little more attention to Diana at the mention of her knowing two Shans. "I haven't met anyone else named Shan, what was this other one like? I'm curious." She piped up after the Vampire finished explaining how she was captured, which didn't matter much to her to be honest. Was more of just a space filler. In her curiosity she almost forgot that she was asked a question about how she ended up in here as well. "With cuffs." She said and lifted up her arms to show her bonded wrists.

Diana looked at the boy, looking like she was avoiding rolling her eyes at the given answer. With cuffs, what an answer. She was tempted to ask further, but truth be told she had a feeling there really was not much more to it. "He's prey," she said, leaning back on the wall. "Met him twice. The first time I caught him in a marsh and lulled him into a false sense of security, but my attempt was interrupted by a giant rat and a woman riding on a dragon. I would say there is more to that story, but I pretty much just had to get the hell out of there."

She wondered if one day she would meet either of those two others again, and considering how often she met up with people she didn't really want to she felt it was likely. There might be worse people to run into at least, like Emily. That would make her scream. "Second time I met him was in Balefire and tricked him up to a room at an inn, drank a little then let him live. I am pretty sure I'll at least get to feed off him a third time, if I ever get out of here."

As she spoke, she let her eyes wander away from the boy. She had always known prison would quickly bore her, but she honestly could hardly stand it. All she had to do was sit here and talk with some zombie boy. She wished she had just been caught by guards for some small crime and put in with some foolish human she could enjoy tormenting. The undead were hard to scare, hard to torment, and thus hard to enjoy.

So it appeared that Diana victimised Shan, unless it was a different Shan. Yet they both had a similar story about the marsh. That really narrowed it down a lot. It most likely was the same Shan. The bandit would be punished for that when they were out of here. "I doubt you'll get out of here, if you ask me. These cuffs are really annoying, not that I can cast magic or anything but it still can't do much with them." She explained and shambled to her feet. Surrounding them were three stone walls and bars on one. Steel bars. Those were a pest, now and again Evals thought of how she was planning on getting out in the first place.

Diana looked around as he spoke, and acknowledged that this would be a difficult situation for her to get out of. "Suppose I'll just have to wait and see if I might be able to take a guard by surprise," she said softly, and began to plot. Fortunately, she had some hidden tools they had not taken from her nor sufficiently restrained her from using them, so she at least had option. One of those options was the dagger in her stomach, though if possible she would like to avoid losing more blood. Blood was very precious to a vampire, after all.

The other option was hidden under her shirt, in her back, and these weapons were new. They remained hidden inside, but she could feel them squirming, those dark gifts of the spirit Kilya. While she kept those in hiding, she simply had to be patient and sit there quietly. And so she sat there, and could not go a minute without twitching uncomfortably. Diana hated being trapped or restrained, and the cuffs were uncomfortable to her. She loved having others similarly helpless, but it was hard for her to take it herself.

She would have liked to settle her mind and relaxed, maybe have a short nap to keep her nerves calm, but she was incapable of sleeping without a bit of her home soil. Perhaps it was a blessing she couldn't sleep, for she knew now that her nightmares would be about Emily coming for her. She could imagine it now, the little girl being locked in the same cell as her, but only Diana would be cuffed while Emily was free to play with her 'friend'. She shivered at the thought.

She looked at Shan, the only thing in the room with which she could distract herself, and had no idea what to say to him. She did however begin to shiver, as thinking of Emily made him look similar. She looked almost as young, perhaps they died at the same age. "How'd you die, anyways?" she asked.

"Isn't that a bit of a personal question?" Evals asked and walked over to the steel bars of the cell they were in. She crouched down as she saw a spider coming towards their cell. She put her hand down and the spider crawled onto it. "I was murdered. Brought back as... this, with eleven other children around my age. I don't remember much from that night though." She explained as more spiders started to show up out of cracks in the walls and from other parts of the prison. This was probably going to tip Diana off if Evals didn't come up with something.

"I suppose," replied Diana to the first question. "But what else are we going to talk about in here? Our hobbies?" She laughed a little to herself. She did not notice the first spider, and listened to the small bit of history. During the explanation she could swear something was wrong and found her eyes wandering around as spiders began to crawl in. Diana had never had a fear of spiders until the day she met Emily.

Jumping up with a squeak of fear, she moved back as far in the cell as possible to get away. No, no, no, this couldn't be Emily. Boy, it was a boy, she knew it was a boy. Wait, eleven other children? "Y-you wouldn't happen to know an Emily by any chance?" she said, holding back as much fear as she good as she trembled in her corner of the cell. There was a growing suspicion that this might actually be the girl she was so afraid of, as there were ways to hide one's gender and change a few features. But could it be done without magic? Those cuffs should prevent magical use.

"Please don't tell me you are Emily," she whispered, hoping for dear undeath that she did not seriously have the kind of luck that would get her locked in the same exact cell as her worst fear. Seriously, what were the odds that she could have gotten in the same cell in a prison for the undead with her? They couldn't have been that high, but then again there were not many prisons for the undead. Perhaps the odds were higher then she thought.

Evals shrugged at the mention of hobbies. "I make model boats." She joked while trying to sound as serious as possible. She listened to what the spider had to say, what all of them had to say. One alone was worthless, together it was a chorus of what was going on. She noted what they were saying tried to look down the hallways. Half ignoring Diana at this point, the disguise girl was focused on what the Paladins and some other people were doing. Going around to each cell and entering them for a while it seems.

"Looks like we'll be gett-- wait what?" Evals said while turning around and looking at the Vampire. Well, looks like the spiders invoked paranoia very easily. "Do I look like a girl to you?" Trying to feign annoyance as best as she could, it was interrupted by a noise of metal running over the bars. She turned her attention back to outside the cell. A man standing in pull plate gear was on the other side of it with his knuckles against the bars, getting their attention. "Stand away from the bars, monster." He ordered.

In total, there were to men fully armoured in plate and another man that looked like a scribe of some sorts. The entire time they were standing there he was writing on some kind of pad in his hand. The zombie stepped away from the bars and got closer to the back wall. If Diana wasn't away from the bars as well, the cell would remain closed until she was a reasonable distance from it.

Once it seemed clear, the first Paladin opened the door and the scribe stopped writing finally and looked up. His right eye flashed with some kind of magic, prying into their existence with just a glance. "Well, lets see. Reanimated Human corpse and a Human suffering with Vampirism. Both of female persuasion. Height..." He stopped for a moment and started writing stuff down again. Without a few seconds passing, "We're going to ask you a few questions. Answer honestly."

Diana was backed away already when the paladin appeared, and kept her eyes on Shan as he backed off. She was now incredibly unsure about him, or it, whatever it was. She did not even pay the paladin's any attention once the idea that the creature sharing a cell with her might be somehow connected to Emily. Perhaps she should have been more concerned with studying the Paladins, planning an escape, but her mind always prioritized the threat of Emily over all else.

Words began to buzz their way into her brain as she registered what the silly scribe was saying, finally tearing her eyes away from Shan to look at him. She did not like the look of that magical eye. "Depends on the questions, sir," she said, a sudden polite charm to her voice, quickly trying to hide her paranoid attitude to her present company. At this moment Emily couldn't be the main concern, especially for such a loose reasoning as 'undead' and 'spiders' being all she needed to equate this Shan with her most feared of enemies.

Now she let herself begin to study these people, and look to see if she could get by. Now, unfortunately, the paladins were big enough it would be hard to slip paste them no matter how fast she was when she had no magic to get by them. It seemed for now she would have to settle for gathering information based on what her captors wanted to know, maybe see if she could ask questions of her own. "May I ask why we've been brought here?" she tried, hoping they wouldn't be the type to just scoff down at her. After all, the scribe said 'suffering' from Vampirism. That was a good sign she might be pitied enough to at least be given an answer.

The Scribe nodded and looked through a few pages of his papers, trying to find something. When Diana asked her question though, the Scribe ignored her and one of the Paladins focused their attention at the Vampire. He pointed at her as he spoke. "Do not speak until spoken to." He threatened before lowering his hand and the Scribe finally found what he was looking for. "Alright," He started as he brought his pen to the paper.

"Give me your current ages and how long ago you became Undead." He demanded and looked up from his papers for a moment at the two. Evals thought for a moment before answering. "I'm in my mid 40s. And about 30 years ago." Not giving them very specific details. After Diana gave her answer, the Scribe would move onto the next question. They all sounded like he asked them a hundred times already.

"Do you work or serve anyone besides yourself?"
"No."

"How did you become what you are now?"
"Don't know."

"Are there any unique things about your condition that separate you from others of your kind?"
"Sentience, but you already know that."

"Would you wish to return to a normal life before you became Undead and if not why not?"
"No. It's been too long."

Diana was disapointed in the lack of information, but obeyed. She made a mental note to make sure all their deaths would be slow and painful. As she listened to them ask questions, she also took the time to listen to 'Shan's answers, still not sure what to think of him. She hoped for some insight, but he said very little. She imagined they might have some way to tell out dishonesty, and while she could act she thought it better to be pretty open.

"I'm twenty-six, been a Vampire for less then a year," she answered the first question honestly. She might have been a Vampire for a rather short amount of time, but she had certainly adapted to the lifestyle quickly. But they didn't need to know that, and they probably already thought she was hopelessly psychotic just from vampirism itself. Paladins usually thought like that just so they didn't have to think they were hunting down real people.

"I've had some odd jobs, but for the most part I am on my own," she answered, once more quite honest. The drow had employed her for a rather fun little guard job for there festival of experimentation. She also happened to fight off a group of paladins and heroes from closing the place down. There was no need to get that specific, though.

"Bit of an obvious question, I was made into one by another vampire," she said to the third question. "Surely you know how a vampire works, right?" She gave a playful smile as she waited for the next question.

"I am as common a vampire as they come," she said. It was true that she was not a unique variation on vampiricy, although she had special features that were not of her 'condition' that they didn't need to know about until she strangled them to death.

Diana thought alot about that last question and how to answer it. She expected they would prefer an answer of yes, but Diana rather liked being a Vampire. However, truth be told, what difference was there between her human and vampire lifestyles? That she drank blood? "I like the benefits of my 'condition', but I suppose I wouldn't mind to see the sun again." That sounded like the best sort of honesty to give them.
