The girl stood perched on the edge of the precipice, biting her lip and with both hands placed on her hips, examining the dark hole in the earth in front of her. She did not look like a spelunker, but from her disdainful expression it was clear that she planned on entering the tunnel. She was small and slender, wearing a white sundress underneath a white cloak with crimson silk sewn around the hem. On her back was a leather satchel, and each forearm and shin was wrapped in silvery ribbons. She had no shoes or gloves, nor any of the necessary tools for exploring subterranean caverns. Are you sure it’s in there? Yes, Rinrae. You know that it is. But it’s so… dark. And clammy. The resulting sigh would not be heard by anyone but Rin, echoing in her mind. The girl was no true mortal, but rather a construct of the Grand Grimoire, a sentient tome that recorded reality. She had been created in order to locate its lost pages, fragments that contained a small portion of its power to warp the world around it. As such, she had been built with a number of advantages over normal individuals that made her more adept at her task. Unfortunately for Rin, those abilities did not include seeing in the dark. The book lapsed into silence for a moment as she walked around the edge of the tunnel’s mouth, watching it warily. Use Laevateinn, Rinrae. It can light up the tunnels. The girl pursed her lips and held one hand out in front of her, the palm facing up. Her blue eyes narrowed in concentration as she tapped into the power of the Grimoire that saturated her flesh, subtly manipulating the threads of reality. “Laevateinn.” There was an odd popping noise and the air around her wavered, and suddenly she was holding a massive greatsword in the outstretched hand. It was almost three feet taller than the girl from pommel to tip, and thick runs had been carved along the length of the blade. These symbols began to glow as she gripped the sword tightly, holding it in front of her like a torch. ”Ragnarok.” That word was accompanied by a soft roar as the runes burst into flames, the fire soon spreading across the blade and leaving her carrying a six-foot tall bar of dancing flames. ”For the record, I am totally against this plan.” The girl sighed and hopped into the tunnel, plummeting into the darkness below. It was almost an entire day later before she emerged from one of the maze-like tunnels into a larger space. Despite all of her travels across the surface of Imythess, Rin had never actually gone underneath it before, and she had absolutely no idea how to navigate the expansive tunnels that honeycombed the Dark Lands. She had only encountered one other person in the depths, a drow who had tried to attack the construct and instead found himself impaled upon Laevateinn. Her innate ab ility to scry for the location of the pages had proved almost entirely useless here, as she lacked the capability to drill through solid rock, but she had finally reached her destination. ”Wow…” Rin looked up at the high roof of the cavern, her eyes wide at the natural beauty of her surroundings. The walls seemed to be made of glass that was as black as night, the smooth surface reflecting the fires dancing along the length of her weapon. She walked up to one of the walls and laid her bare hand against the glossy surface, only to jerk it away when the edge of the stone cut her palm. The construct spun in place, trying to estimate the true size and spread of the subterranean hollow, but the illumination offered by the flaming greatsword did not come close to lighting up the entire cave. The walls are obsidian, Rin. A type of rock formed from volcanic overflow. She nodded at the knowledge shared by the Grimoire, closing her eyes to focus on where the fragment she sought might be located. The page was incredibly close; in fact, she suspected it was somewhere within this huge cavern. With a bright grin she began to walk in that direction, her bare feet slapping against the smooth stone floor. After a few hours she started to hear other sounds besides the echoes of her own footprints. Rin slowed down, tilting her head to one side and staring off into the impenetrable darkness. She wasn’t entirely sure what the sound was, but it was clearly no natural occurrence. The girl began to skip ahead at a faster place, eager to be done with this task and return to the sunlit world aboveground. After turning a corner the girl skid to a halt, her eyes going wide. A massive citadel had been built underground, seemingly carved out of pure obsidian. Walls surrounded the entire complex, but even from this distance she could see the massive structure of buttresses and pillars and balconies and domed roofs. But what was the most amazing about the palace was not its size or location, but the sheer amount of activity in and around it. She could see countless torches being carried around by beings too small to identify. Rin shook her head in wonder and started walking towards Olis’inith’s palace, completely unaware of the events that were transpiring in the hive of madmen and evil-doers. |

Vyse growled as he was paraded towards the place, four drow wore three of his blades and one of his maces. The rest was in a cart they were forcing him to pull, he couldn't believe he had agreed to deal with the drow, they had betrayed him, took his men captive, and were now using him for grunt work. He was told to stop, he did so, it was time for him to rest, they didn't want their slave to die on them, they took a club, beating Vyse over the head three times. Vyse fell to the ground, he could still feel his arms and legs, and the splitting pain in his head did little to help him, but he remained quiet and motionless, he was tougher then most men and these drow had no real muscle mass to hit his head hard enough. He waited for them to gather and talk, the one with his mace guarding him, he could feel something wet hit his head, probably spit from the drow, if he could only get to the cart, he could steal some of his weapons back and slaughter them all. He heard more foot steps approaching, one of the drow guards came to talk to his comrade, perfect, they were no more then five paces away, this was his only chance. He quickly stood up and rushed them, his movements filled with draconic might as he slammed a shoulder into one of them, sending his body through the cart, a piece of obsidian impaling him as he landed. Vyse grabbed the drow that had been keeping guard on him, his extra arms latching onto his legs as he grasped his arms, quickly disarming and de-legging the spider loving fool. He bent down and grabbed his mace, reaching into the cart for his holy longsword, he spun the weapons as the flaming enchantment on the mace flared to life, he stepped forward, the longsword cleaving one drow from neck to hip as his mace inverted the drow's head. He picked up his weapons, searching the cart for his armor and items, he found them unharmed. He donned his chest piece and helmet, sheathing his maces and swords in their rightful places. He looked from his path to the torches shining off a wall, he would walk down this path and find his men, kill all drow who stood in his way, and take what was rightfully his. He started walking again, ready to fight and kill anyone who stood in his way. |

The construct wandered closer to the castle, staring at the activity surrounding the complex. It seemed as if a miniature, makeshift city had been built up against the protective walls, hovels and tents scraped together from ordinary materials. There seemed to be heaps of refuse surrounding the palace, and even from a distance she could smell the rank odor of rot and decay. Only when she drew closer did the girl realize that the mounds were not full of normal trash and rubbish, but rather discarded corpses. Rin drew to a halt in horror, her mouth gaping open and eyes wide. "What... what's going on here?" Even as the girl watched she saw a drow emerge from one of the entrances to the palace, grabbing the limb of one of the bodies and dragging it into the structure. Clearly she had discovered some terrible nexus of evil and atrocities, although she was not entirely sure what was happening here. "Oh look, another escaped slave. Goodie." Rin swiveled to glare at the speaker. The man was a drow, with the black skin and white hair of that race. He was dressed in a leather jerkin, and when he moved she could hear the rattle of chainmail underneath his shirt. "She even managed to find a sword. Sorry girlie, but they're paying me too well to not return you. Drop the weapon and I won't have to hurt you." Even as the dark elf spoke he drew his own weapons, two curved sickles with serrated blades. The steel was tarnished with spots of dark brown, and although she could not be certain of its identity the construct suspected the splotches were dried blood. He did not seem to be intimidated by the fact the waif he was accosting was effortlessly carrying a massive blade, its entire length flickering with hot flames. "I am no slave." The drow laughed and shrugged, darting forward to slash at the girl with both sickles. RIn spun away from the assault, pivoting on one heel and dusking so the curved blades whisked over her head. As she spun she brought the greatsword around in a massive arc, the heavy blade whirring towards the drow's ankles. He jumped over the attack nimbly, retreating a few steps. The confident grin faded from his face as she straightened, assuming a defensive stance and staring at him with fierce determination. The dark elf jumped forward, attempting to hook one of the sickles around the edge of Laevateinn to impede her movements. The construct retreated, drawing back the sword and repositioning her grip so one hand was curled around the crossguard instead of the hilt. With the extra leverage she slammed the huge blade down at the drow with both hands. He barely managed to raise one sickle in time to block the blow, and the sheer strength of the attack still knocked the weapon out of his hands. Without a moment's hesitation Rin dashed forward, slamming the tip of the flaming sword into the drow's chest, piercing both the thick leather and chainmail links from the strength of the attack. He gasped in shock and pain as she shoved the blade all of the way through his body, the gory tip protruding from his back. Fire from the enchanted weapon began to spread across his body, the sickly-sweet scent of burning flesh adding to the nauseating odor of the area. Rin watched mercilessly as the drow dropped to the ground, writhing in agony as the flames consumed him. In moments he was dead, another corpse among the heaped bodies surrounding the palace. The construct stared up at the imposing structure, her face wrinkled in a grimace. Clearly something terrible was being done here, and she suspected that the page of the Grand Grimoire was a part of the nefarious scheme. She yanked the sword out of the body's chest, the blood on the blade evaporating into a crimson mist from the heat of the flames. Rin needed to get inside the building as soon as possible so she could find the page and stop whoever was using its power to commit atrocities. She began to approach the walls once more when she heard the splintering of wood from a nearby pathway. The girl quickly darted in that direction, just in time to see a man decapitating another drow effortlessly. She watched for a moment as the man began to dress and arm himself from items stored in a broken cart, another broken body laying next to the shattered vehicle. After a moment she realized she knew recognized the man. "Vyse? Is that you?" |

Vyse turned to see a rather familiar face in this dark place, he smirked beneath his helmet, pushing the face mask up to look at the girl better, "Well if it isn't Rin, what are you doing down he- dumb question, you're searching for a page, right?" He walked towards her, his arms grasping the hilts of his blades, "I suggest you wait a bit then, I'm going to go down there and hack apart every drow who took my men anyway to be part of... whatever it is they're doing." He walked past her, only to run into three drow, probably there to see why the cart was so late, the reason why was obvious when Vyse unsheathed his blades, hewing through their torsos and necks as if they were made of butter and he had a claymore made of flames. He turned back to Rin, "On second thought having a few score of drow surround me doesn't seem like the wisest idea, would you help me free the people here Rin? If you do I promise to help you find the page you're looking for." He knew it was a long shot, the girl had shown obvious distrust of him the last time they met until he gave her the page in the bottle. He had checked his father's other hidden cache's during his travels and had found nothing else, just that one page, it was a pity really, he would have loved to go on this kind of journey, one that may never end. A journey that would let you wander around searching new locations, new countries, hidden areas that few have heard of. Though that was probably just his wanderlust talking, even with the extra adviser he found little time to do what he wanted since business started to pick up. He shook his head, expelling the nonsense from his head, he needed to stay focus, if Rin would help him save the people here he could get this job done twice as fast. |

Rin nodded in confirmation of the berserker-turned-merchant's suspicion that she was searching for a page. She had met multiple times before in Imythess and still was not sure what to think of the man. Vyse had been the first individual that she had encountered after her creation, but the man had entered a frenzied state that he called 'bloodwrath' that had scarred her for many weeks. Only after they had reunited and the girl had almost slipped into a rage-like state of her own had she forgiven him. Both of the times they had met each other Vyse had helped her to collect a page, so he knew more about her current quest than most mortals in the realm. However, when he suggested that she wait while he cleaned up the drow and other ruffians she shook her head avidly, frowning slightly. "I can't let you do that Vyse! You would be almost powerless against a page in the hands of a trained sorcerer. It's too dangerous." Still, the berserker seemed intent on fighting with only his own strength, barreling into a group of dark elves and slaughtering them like cattle. Rin huffed in frustration at being treated like she was too weak to contribute, but the berserker soon changed his mind and offered to let her help him. "Ok! I accept! I will help you free the slaves. But remember, the page is paramount!" The girl giggled and stepped in front of Vyse, facing directly towards the looming walls of the palace. She tilted her head to one side, giving the street in front of them and the obsidian obstruction a calculating glance. "However, you might want to get out of the way. This could be dangerous." Rin hopped forward to put some more distance in between herself and the merchant, holding Laevateinn above her head with both hands. The fire along the blade seemed to burn brighter, as if they knew what was coming next. The construct's next words were recanted in a sing-song fashion, sounding much more like a children's nursery rhyme than the incantation to release the enchantment on the massive greatsword. "World of men, crumble and break, for Surtr's footsteps make the very earth quake!" Rin stepped forward, plunging the blade down with both hands so that the tip of the sword sank into the walkway. The floor of the cavern around the point of impact shuddered, cracks spreading out from the sword that glowed red-hot. In the next instant the ground in front of Rin exploded upwards, a fierce inferno pouring out of the ground to rush towards the palace in a intense wall of flames. The construct watched merrily as the gouts of flames slammed into the obsidian, melting the stone in a flash and causing the wall to explode into the complex. It was almost a minute before the flames died down, but the damage to the palace had been done. There was a gaping hole in the structure's defenses, the edges of the wall still as red and hot as magma. Smoldering corpses were evident amidst the copious destruction, but Rin did not seem to mind. After all, hadn't Vyse mentioned that these were evil drow? "Ok! We can go in now!" Although the flames that had covered the length of Laevateinn had died out, there path was still lit by small fires that the construct had started with the summoned conflagration. She skipped forward, bare feet crunching through rubble and ash, holding the greatsword in both hands. Although her entire demeanor seemed innocent and naive, there was a dangerous intensity in her blue eyes that suggested any drow that crossed her path should start running in the opposite direction as quickly as possible. |

Vyse chuckled at the girl as she got in front of him, he looked on as she thrust her massive blade into the ground, creating a wave of deadly flames. Vyse nodded, "While it may have helped us at the moment, you do realize now that every drow in the complex will be heading to that huge noise, in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if a few have spells to immediately come to the area." As if waiting for him to speak ten drow seemed to just appear out of thin air, weapons at the ready. Vyse shrugged, "I guess we'll split it, five and five, show me what you've learned since we last fought Rin, I'll be counting on you to keep up!" He laughed as he put his helmet's face mask down, charging forward to deal with the five to the left. Vyse let out a quick and powerful slash, the drow went to block it, being sent flying by the difference in strength, the drow lay broken against the obsidian wall. Three of the drow surrounded Vyse as the other started casting a spell, he was no mage so he had no idea what kind. He simply defended for a few moments, blocking the three swords with his four, though he quickly turned the tide of the battle, his blades hewing through arms as he counter attacked, his blades sinking and shearing through them, just as the final drow finished his spell, summoning an earth golem. Vyse looked up at the golem, it was made of rock and loose bits of dirt, he sheathed his blades and took out his maces. Charging forward and leaping upward at the golem, tackling it with his mace and body, knocking it over on top of the mage, he used his maces to crush it the arms to pieces as it flailed, finally crushing it with a four direction assault on it's head, crushing it. He let the earth golem fall to pieces and jumped the short distance to the ground, he walked towards the opening, calling out to Rin, "You can lead the way, that way you can show me where I need to smash through so we can get to your page faster." He waited for Rin to lead the way, he would make sure she would get the page as fast as possible, she said it was paramount, but if they found the slaves first he might have to break off from her for a short time, but he would keep his promise, he would help her find the page. |

"I hope they heard! If they're looking for us we don't have to hunt them down!" The girl's voice was light and cheerful even though she was discussing the prospect of cutting down sentient beings, as if she had no understanding or comprehension of right and wrong. The truth was a little more complex than that; the Grand Grimoire had created Rin to be completely ruthless in the completion of her task. The girl would stop at nothing to collect the pages of the book, and anyone who got in her way was considered expendable. When the ten dark elves showed up, Rin was already ready for them. Instead of combating them together Vyse seemed consent to split the opposition down the middle, a fact that the construct was grateful for. Although she had trained with the berserker before and knew he possessed great strength, the girl was unsure if they would make a good team in combat. Both of their styles were too unpredictable to make a good match. She charged towards her half of the drow guards, eyes narrowed and the greatsword held in front of her like a spear. The first guard made the mistake of trying to meet her rush head-on despite his much shorter longsword, obviously expecting the slight girl to turn aside before impact. Instead she impaled the black-skinned elf straight through the chest, stabbing through his heart and killing him instantly. Rin did not immediately draw her weapon out of the corpse, instead planting her feet firmly and wrenching the blade horizontally. The body flew off of the tip of the sword, striking the legs of the second drow and causing him to fall. She withdrew the sword into a defensive position as the last three guards converged on her. Two wielded the jagged scimitars for which their race was famous, while the third held a shortsword and a slender stiletto. Rin blocked one attack witht he flat of Laevateinn while jumping into the air to avoid another thrust, grinding her teeth together. For all of its strength, the greatsword was far too bulky to fight three opponents at once in an enclosed space. She flipped backwards from the trio, one lucky strike scouring her shoulder as she dropped the weapon. Before she had even landed the girl was focusing on her Grimoire-given gifts onces more, summoning a new blade from her arsenal to continue the fight. "Kusanagi-No-Tsurugi!" The sword that appeared was much more manageable, a curved katana that was seemingly carved out of a single piece of jade. Rin dashed forward to launch a lightning-fast series of stabs, the barrage so unanticipated and brutal that it caught one of the dark elves completely off-guard. The tip of the katana found his throat, severing his jugular. Rin kicked out at the same time, catching the dual-wielding drow in the wrist and forcing him to drop the stiletto. She drew back the sword just in time to block a two-handed slash from the third elf, although the strength of the blow sent her stumbling backwards. The construct whipped the sword up, eyes narrowing as she focused on the mystical abilities instilled in the green blade. A fierce wind came out of nowhere, sending a cloud of dust flying up into the eyes of her scimitar-wielding foe. The man fell backwards in surprise, coughing and sputtering on a mouthful of ash. Rin lashed out mercilessly, Kusnagi ripping straight through the man's chest in a spray of blood. This left the girl facing two dark elves, the one who had fallen initially and the last remaining survivor of her initial assault. The drow who had tripped began to mutter under his breath, jerking his fingers in a complex pattern as runes flashed in the air around him. Rin sighed and sprinted forward. At the last instant she jerked to one side, avoiding the thrust of the shortsword by a hairsbreadth. She bounced off a wall to change her direction rapidly, twirling behind the drow and hamstringing him effortlessly. The elf fell with an pained shout, leaving only the spellcaster. Rin had halved the distance between them by the time the spell was complete. The girl jumped into the air as a fireball roared into life, the very edge of the ball of flame running across her thigh in a blaze of white-hot agony. Rin did not even seem to notice, plunging the entire length of Kusanagi into the drow's torso as she descended, splattering her clothes and skin with flecks of blood. The construct stood up, smiling brightly. Despite the amazing prowess she had displayed with the blade she did not appear to be out of breath in the slightest. She hopped over to the fallen greatsword, hefting it in her left hand while keeping the bloodstained katana in her right. "Ok! I think the page is below us, so there must be a tunnel..." She skipped ahead a ways, staring around the interior of the palace. Sure enough, a few feet within the shattered wall was a dark hole leading underneath the floor of the cavern. The girl ran towards it eagerly, completely ignoring the injuries she had accumulated in the short fight. |

Vyse frowned, the girl was injured, she needed to be treated, as they entered the place Rin took a turn down a tunnel heading down a tunnel. He began using what magic he knew, placing a hand on Rin's shoulder, "Vigoratus." The healing spell would easily heal the minor wounds she had accumulated in the battle, he put the faceplate up so he could look Rin in the eye, "That should heal the wounds, now Rin it's important for us both to stay unharmed, next time you get injured please let me heal you first so we can keep on moving unencumbered, even small wounds can effect us in the long run and we have no idea when we'll get to the end of this place." He found Rin a breath of fresh air with her constant happiness, but she stilll seemed a bit naive in this kind of regard, she needed to learn a few things about assaulting large well fortified and armed foes... then again he only knew about it from his constant attempts at breaking into manors, estates, and small castles that held evil lords and ladies that he needed to exterminate. He kept up to Rin's pace, he was lost in thought for a while before talking to Rin again, "I'm sorry if it sounded like I was talking down to you... it's just I've done this kind of thing for a lot longer, even though you're just as skilled as I am, I still have experiences you don't and I only want to make sure you understand that in this kind of assault no wound can go untreated. I made that mistake and fell off a roof once, had my left arm impaled by a fence spike, and then once I got it unstuck I passed out from the fall, it was another matter entirely to break out of the man's personal dungeon. I'm also very impressed Rin, your fighting style is so very different from my own, it's a lot more acrobatic while mine just forces me to walk forward while attacking. Next time you're in Cascadia I wouldn't mind another sparring match, I'm sure the Cascadia Guard will let us use their training grounds." He wanted to spar with Rin again, she was fast and strong and her fighting style was just as unique as his own, though that would have to wait, his people were in danger and Rin needed her page, first the slaves if they found them first, then the page, then the trip back to Cascadia and the mountain of paperwork waiting for him. |

Rin started when Vyse laid a hand on her shoulder, almost turning around and slashing at him from reflex. The mystery behind the contact was explained a moment later as a cool sensation spread from his fingers, magic flowing through her limbs and seeking out where she had been injured. The cut on her shoulder knitted itself together as if it had never existed, and new flesh soon replaced the burn along her upper leg. The construct rotated her arm methodically to make sure there was no lasting damage from the attack, but there was an obvious trace of confusion in her voice when she spoke to Vyse. "That was unnecessary. I had not yet reached a point where I could not fight at optimal levels. I did not want you to waste any of your strength on healing me..." She shrugged dismissively, as if the injuries had not concerned her in the least. Rin had barely wasted a thought on the cut or burn except for the flash of pain when she had been struck. The Grimoire had created her with a higher tolerance for pain than normal mortals, and further training and battling had made it so that she didn't even notice small injuries as threatening. Vyse began to talk at length as they continued down the tunnel, apologizing for treating her like someone who needed protection and explaining his justification. The girl did not respond to his apology immediately, instead holding one hand up and slowing her pace considerably. The tunnel they were in was not a large one, barely wide enough for the two of them to run side by side. The construct could hear the sounds of movement up ahead, accompanied by the rumbling of carts and the retort of lashes. "I think we're getting close to something Vyse..." She edged forward, peering around a fork in the passageway. Their tunnel linked up with another walkway that was significantly larger, thirty feet across. a train of misery was working its way down lower in the subterranean maze. Rin could tell that a large majority of the individuals were slaves, both from their dejected attitude and the fetters shackling them together at ankle and wrist. Surrounding the group of prisoners was at least three dozen drow soldiers, several of them periodically lashing out at the slaves with barbed leather whips. The construct knelt down, watching the proceedings cautiously. The larger tunnel seemed to be steeper than the one they were in, suggesting that they would be able to find the page of the Grimoire much more quickly if they followed it. However, she was unsure if they would be able to defeat all of the gathered drow before they could summon more slavers, and even then many of the slaves could be injured or perish in the battle. The prisoners were dragging carts full of supplies and corpses deeper into the depths of the palace, probably to be used for some evil and profane purpose. "What should we do, Vyse?" The girl's question was as soft as a breath, barely audible over the sounds of marching feet and lashing whips. Although she wanted to do nothing more than charge straight into the larger tunnel and attack the drow, but that would probably not be the wisest choice. If they continued to follow the smaller tunnel there was a much lower probability of being detected, but they would probably take longer to locate both the slaves that Vyse wanted to free and the page of the Grand Grimoire. The girl waited for the berserker's answer, staring at the procession of slavers and captives with a combination of disgust and resentment. |

Vyse followed Rin, staying silent as they peered into the larger area, he could feel his rage build at the sight of the prisoners, slavers, and corpses in wagons, he saw some of his men pulling carts, he needed no other information, he looked down at Rin, "Hmmm sneak around and let them kill or torture more people or charge in, kill them all, and save most of the slaves who will then arm themselves from the corpses of drow. I think we should attack, slaughter them all, set the slaves free, and then we find the page, but also free more slaves as we move along. At least that's my battle plan, now let's go Rin, it will be our first fight watching each others backs, it'll be a learning experience for us both, eh?" He set out for them, using his draconic might for a long jump, ramming his shoulder into one drow as he landed, sending the drow tumbling down the tunnel and colliding with two others, he unsheathed his blades and spun them, his blades flashing in the light, he howled out his battle cry, "None can kill the Noclan!" He saw as the drow turned to look at him, he had successfully brought every eye on him, he saw as they swarmed towards him, maybe what he did wasn't the smartest idea. He brought his blades up and readied himself, as the first wave of enemies came at him he stepped forward, sweeping low with his cutlass and longsword while slashing high with his Sarilyn blade and Lan De Yue Jia, his cutlass lopping of the leg of one drow, his longsword cleaving another in half at the waist. His other two blades were simply beheading people or cleaving straight from shoulder to waist, he let his strength run wild, but his mind began to get foggy as the smell of blood began to fill his nostrils. His blade work slowed down as he moved forward, the drow started to read his movements, he was in trouble, if he gave in Rin would be afraid of him, but if he kept on fighting he would end up giving into his bloodwrath, he was in a corner with no escape. He soon and cried out in frustration, "Blitz! Sopheur! Fenrir! Lita!" Their enchantments sparking up, his cutlass frying flesh as his sarilyn blade, Fenrir, froze the wounds and blood, the smell of slightly burnt flesh overpowered the smell of blood, the frost enchantment was stopping the blood from flowing, he would have to keep on fighting like this, he smiled, he would be able to hold it out a bit longer, just a bit longer. His blade work sped back up, he made sure to keep on moving, he had to keep on moving or else the drow would surround and kill him. He kept his movements quick and precise, using the cutlass and sarilyn blade to do the finishing blows to keep the blood to a minimum. |

In retrospect, trusting Vyse to be the voice of caution had been a silly plan from the get-go. Rin shook her head in a mixture of annoyance and respect. The merchant had made up his mind to free the slaves; nothing would stop him, not even an oppressive number of enemies. The construct did not follow immediately, instead changing her grip on Laevateinn so she held it like a javelin, the six-foot long blade protruding in front of her. She charged into the larger tunnel after the berserker, sharp blue eyes picking out one of the drow at the former mercenary's back. Although his four arms gave the man a tremendous advantage in combat, it did not give him complete awareness of the space around him in battle. Rin grinned savagely and jogged forward, leaning back to put her whole weight behind the movement before she hurled the massive sword straight towards the dark elf. He did not even see the weapon before it slammed into his ribcage, crumpling the bones and impaling his chest cavity in a spray of blood. The slaver stumbled backwards into the ranks of prisoners, his longsword falling from slack fingers and almost immediately scooped up by one of the shacked men. He used the sword to jab at another drow, years of imposed servitude reflected in his wrathful expression. The construct had already moved on, dashing in the opposite direction of Vyse. Although it might be safer for the two of them to stick together, Rin knew that it would be suicidal to allow the drow to encircle both of them and trap them against the walls. The first guard she encountered was still struggling to wind the winch on his crossbow when she stabbed through his eye, ending his life in a fierce jerk. She snatched the projectile weapon up from his hand as he fell, leveling the bow at the net guard and firing it from point-blank range. The quarrel punched a fist-sized hole in the slaver's chest, knocking him off of his feet. Rin dropped the crossbow and sprinted forward at the next pair of guards, who had seen her assault on their brethren and were prepared for her attack. At the last instant she changed direction, using both her momentum and speed to carry her a few feet up the wall of the tunnel. She back-flipped off of the obsidian just as a halberd slammed into the shiny stone, the jade katana weaving around her body in a green blur too fast to track with the naked eye. The edge of the blade slashed through the poleaxe-wielding elf's throat, although his companion managed to jerk out of the way of the slashing sword. He jumped forward to attack as soon as she landed, using a two-hand style with a heavy scimitar and a deadly dirk. Rin was forced to retreat one step, and then several more as he attacked with both weapons, making it almost impossible for her to counter-attack. The dirk managed to slip underneath her defenses and prick at her stomach, sinking in half an inch before she caught his wrist with her free hand. Rin smiled amiably at the drow and broke his arm in a smooth movement, bone jutting out of his bicep from the force of the attack. He barely had time to cry out in pain before Kusanagi sank into his gut, turning his shout into a bubbling gurgle. Rin kicked the dying dark elf off of her sword, glancing with annoyance at the blossom of blood spreading across the fabric of her sundress. Some of these drow were actually skilled fighters, making it more difficult for her to dispatch of them quickly. Speed was of the essence, however; although she and Vyse had managed to cut a bloody path through the first half of the slavers, the element of surprise had been lost. The battle would be even more difficult from this point on. The construct rolled her shoulders to crack her neck before advancing on the next trio of drow, her lips curled upwards in a slight smile. The expression did not reach her eyes; the only emotion reflected in the azure irises was a relentless determination. She had began to sink into a trance-like martial mode, a state of mind where she would continue fighting until her body literally gave up. When one of the dark elves lashed out at her with his whip she met the attack with the blade of the katana, slicing through the whip as she ran forward, prepared to kill everyone in her path or die trying. |

Vyse lashed out at all of them, he felt the clashing of weapons through his arms, he was always strong when it came to tests of endurance like this. He had dismissed the notion of finishing people off with only two blades, he was roaring and howling as he fought, his eyes glowing red as he gave into the bloodwrath, his deadly curse had taken him once again. He now chased down the drow as the last dozen along his side were running from him, but Vyse had been running while in his bloodwrath for days on end, he easily overtook them and cut the first man into ribbons, the next one was beheaded as Vyse used his other arms to parry a slash and cut the man in half at his waist. The men just didn't stand a chance as Vyse hacked and slashed his way through them, the final one turning around, thrusting out with a short spear, the spear was cut in half with a blade, Vyse stepping in and impaling the man with three blades, one at the neck, one in the heart, and the other in the lungs, he lifted the man up with his blades and ripped him to shreds as he twisted them out, no more drow were charging him, in fact some of them were running to where they had entered, escaping the mad berserker as he howled in victory. Once no more foes stood in his way his eyes stopped glowing as he stumbled to his knees, dropping his blades as he coughed, holding onto the area where his heart is. He moved the faceplate of his up, allowing him to heave, blood spewing from his mouth across the ground. He stood back up once his fits of bloody vomiting stopped, he picked his blades from the ground, flicking the blades free of blood before sheathing them all. He looked at the bodies, a set of silver among the crimson of blood, he felt his bloodwrath coming back, he shook his head as he quickly picked up the bloodstained silver keys, he went about setting prisoners free, he had to work quickly, more would be coming. He soon found the men he had come in with, they were chained up to a cart, he set them free quickly, the men smiled and took up weapons, one of them spoke easily to the man, "Eh, boss you look like someone took a club upside yer head, now we'll get the rest out of here, you're going to go and stop this from happenin' eh boss?" One of them took the set of keys from Vyse, going about to setting the others free, Vyse looked around, seeing Rin a bit off, he walked towards her slowly, rubbing his eyes, "Rin... where do we go next?" He still had blood on his lips and chin, his eyes still had a bit of red from his bloodwrath, as if some of the veins in it had broken, he was tired, the bloodwrath took quite a bit out of him. |

The construct was a blur of jade metal, golden hair, and white cloth as she twirled around a group of six drow. She was never completely at rest, always ducking or jumping or spinning or weaving or attacking. Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi sang in her hand like it was a part of her body, an extension of her arm that was constantly whirring around her. One dark elf fell back with a howl, his arm ending in a stump that gushed blood. Another found his legs collapsing under him as the sword was drawn across the back of both legs, hamstringing him. A third drow managed to score a shallow wound on the girl's right arm before she opened him from collarbone to navel with her return strike. The three remaining slavers backed away warily, still holding their weapons and staring at the blood-drenched girl. She dispassionately kicked the corpse off of the blade, staring at the remaining men with a harsh expression. "The page. Where is it?" The three drow exchanged glances. One managed to stutter out a response, dropping his scimitar as he spoke. "W-we don't know what p-p-page you're talking ab-" His response was literally cut off when Rin sprinted forward, doging around his clumsy counter-strike and spearing him through the heart. The katana caught on his ribcage as she tried to yank it out, pulling the weapon from her hands as he sunk to the ground. She fell back as the closest drow lashed out with an ax, aiming to decapitate her. Knowing that there was no time to conjure another weapon or scoop up a discarded blade she raised an empty hand, curling her fingers to catch the ax. For a moment the space around her arm rippled, and suddenly the ribbons transformed from thick fabric into thick steel plate. The edge of the ace bit deep into the lobstered steel, managing to cut the meat of her palm between her thumb and pointer finger. Rin's counter attack was a punch to the gut, the ribbon around her free arm transforming in the last instant so that her fist was encased in hard metal. The blow knocked the air out of the drow, allowing her to wrench the ax out of his hands. Without a moment's hesitation she sank the heavy weapon into his skull, sending shards of bone and bits of brain matter splashing against the wall. She turned towards the last drow, who had raised his own scimitar for a last attack. An open-handed blow from her armored fingers stunned the dark elf, giving her enough time to knee him in the groin. The man fell to the ground, gasping for breath as Rin began to pummel him with her fists. She only paused long enough to repeat her question from earlier, her voice completely flat and emotionless. "The page. Where is it?" "D... Dalamar has a page... He uses it for his experiments..." The drow spit out a broken tooth, wiping blood away from his split lips. Rin slammed her elbow into his temple, knocking the elf out instantly. She stood slowly, glaring at the remaining slavers. Of the original three dozen minions, only two remained. The rest had either been cut down by the freed slaves or one of their rescuers. These last drow did not try to regain control of the situation, but rather fled up the tunnel towards the surface. She knew that they were probably searching for reinforcements, but hopefully both her and the berserker would be gone by then. She smiled at Vyse as he trotted over to her. The merchant was coated in blood as well, but very little of it looked to be his. The only sign of any injury to the man was the blood dripping from his lips. Rin herself only had a few injuries, a scrape along one shoulder and a shallow cut on her stomach. They did not seem to bother her as she bent down to wipe the blood off of Kusnagi-No-Tsurugi on the tunic of a felled drow. "It's further down. They mentioned a man named Dalamar, who was doing experiments. We must hurry." The longer she spent down here the more convinced Rin became that the Grimoire's power was being used for some depraved quest for power. The confirmation that its possessor was conducting experiments only confirmed her suspicions. She began to jog down the tunnel, holding the hilt of the katana with both hands as she charged down the incline.

Vyse looked at Rin and nodded, placing a hand on her shoulder, "Vigoratus." The healing energy sealed up most of the wounds on the small warrior girl, he smiled at her as he turned to head down the tunnel, "Well, we'll just have to ruin whatever they're doing, destroy the place, and then get out of here before something else happe-." He stopped halfway as a new stream of blood shot forth from his mouth as he fell to his knees, his body becoming racked with spasms, he waited on his hands and knees for a while before standing back up, breathing heavily, he placed a hand on his stomach, "Vigoratus Mihi." The healing magic would stop the ulcers from bleeding for a while, but he would need do this several times as he walked back to Cascadia. He shook his head, speaking evenly as he walked, "I'm fine, just bloodwrathed for a while, lucky I didn't go into a Black Out, we should move fast though, my body isn't what it used to be." Vyse moved down the tunnel, keeping his pace quick and even, he needed to keep things steady or else he might set off another wave of spasms. Vyse walked in silence for a while, he felt the strain on his heart lessen, he was out of danger of another spasm and was ready to fight, but the ulcers would need much stronger healing magic, he should probably learn some so he wouldn't need to go back to Cascadia for proper healing magic. He was stirred from his thoughts as he entered a massive room, it was filled with shelves of books, ingredients, body parts, and corpses, but what stood out the most was the drow, he was taller then the average drow, but he was even skinnier then most of his kind, probably from not eating as often as he should, and the three beings. a large metal golem, a giant stitched up walking corpse, and a rather large metal scale clad large cat. Vyse walked forward, drawing his four blades, this would be all to easy if there was only a drow, a walking abomination, a golem, and a large metal cat. Though soon his words were taken away as a large snake like head came down to look at him from the sealing, it roared out, metal plates and studs ran alongside the sides of it's massive neck, the large body dropping down from the ceiling in front of them, blocking the way to the drow. Vyse recognized the dragon, even though it was rather decayed, he had ripped it from jaw to the base of it's long neck, where the metal and studs were keeping it together. Vyse nodded and looked towards Rin, "This seems like the beginning to a bad joke, a dragon, a drow, and three artifical life forms walk into a bar..." The dragon cried out, "Silence! You! Vyse Noclan, you killed me back in the mountains many miles above, if it wasn't for a wandering group of drow I would have been in the ground, gone from this world, but now I have a second chance to destroy you! Die!" With a roar he let loose a stream of flames above them, melting the obsidian above them. Vyse dashed to the side out of the way as the melting rock fell down, blocking their entrance. He looked up as the dragon turned to face him, Vyse yelled out, hoping that Rin could hear him, "I can handle the dragon! .. I think, just take care of the drow, get your page!" He spun his blades, ready to fight the dragon where he stands. |

The sense of apprehension grew the deeper they ran into the tunnels, like a miasma spreading from the innermost portions of the honeycombed passageways. They passed several rooms with guards posted outside, but neither Rin nor Vyse slowed down long enough to engage these men or let them stop them. Within a few minutes they reached the doorway that the construct could sense housed the page of the Grand Grimoire. The duo burst into the room, revealing a massive chambers. Its walls were cluttered with bookshelves and diagrams, figures and arcane tools. The girl stared around in mute astonishment that quickly turned to horror. Impaled on the walls were the twisted corpses of men and women who had obviously died in agony. Most of them had wounds on their body that suggested that they had been tortured, and many were missing entire limbs. The walls were crusted with dried blood, hiding the shiny black stone walls under a layer of rusty brown. Rin caught motion out of the corner of her eye and turned to regard the drow that stood near the middle of the room. He was so thin his frame almost seemed skeletal, but there was no mistaking the mystic power that emanated from the emaciated form. He was surrounded by an odd entourage: an animated set of armor with a large jewel in its chest, a hulking corpse with a screw through its neck and lightning crackling in its eyes, and a quadrupedal beast that seemed to be constructed out of cleverly aligned metal plates. The girl could sense the Grimoire's power pulsing through all three of the constructs, an energy that gave them a rough semblance of life. The girl retreated back a few steps in shock when the reanimated dragon dropped from the upper reaches of the cavern/ Metal prosthetics had been hammered into its scaled flesh in order to jeep the massive corpse moving, and its voice was so deep the floor shook when it spoke. Surprisingly, the reptile seemed to know Vyse from before its demise; in fact, it seemed to believe that the berserker was the one responsible for its death. Rin tightened her grip on her weapons and adopted a fighting stance, Laevateinn held at her side and Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi pointing straight at the zombie dragon. It would take both of them to defeat such a powerful opponent. However, Vyse did not seem to think he would need any assistance, yelling at her to take care of the drow even as the undead reptile spat a burst of flame at them. The construct ran to her right, feeling the heat of the breath weapon on her left side as it exploded against the roof of the cavern, sending a wave of molten rock cascading over the entrance to the chamber. Some people might have felt a trace of fear at the sight of their exit disappearing under a ton of rock, but not Rin; instead her lips curled up in a fierce smile. Now he can't try to run away. The girl turned to her set of opponents, slamming the tip of the greatsword into the ground. Although a powerful weapon, Laevateinn was too unwieldy to attempt to use at the same time as the jade katana, and she would need to move quickly in order to defeat the three artificial constructs. The drow made no move to engage her himself, instead flicking one hand forward in a silent command. The feline golem jumped forward almost instantly, rushing straight at the girl with a series of clanking steps. The sight of the mechanical monstrosity reminded her of the golden, mechanical lion she had fought in Kellen, another impossible beast given life by the Grand Grimoire's power. Remembering the strength and speed of that opponent, she did not attempt to block the seeping claws of the alchemical golem. Instead she jumped over its headlong charge, slashing out twice witht he katana as she twirled above its head. The edge of the sword left long, shallow scratches in the creature's armor, but it was clear that no lasting damage had been done to the golem. I can't waste time on this... The Imythessian lion had taken all of her skill and strength to defeat, as well as the prestigious skills of an undead girl named Evals. The air around her free hand rippled as she focused on a sword that she rarely needed to call upon whose unique gifts could handily incapacitate the alchemical creation. "Lan de Yue Jia!" The longsword that formed was unremarkable except for the material it was made of; the entire length of the sword shimmered with a silvery illumination, as if it had been forged of pure starlight. Rin pointed the weapon at the feline construct, which was turning around in order to charge at her once more. "Stars above shine on the world below, make a cage of light to ensnare my foe!" The Lan de Yue Jia flashed for a moment, tendrils of bright light shooting away from its surface to wrap around the alchemical golem. The greature roared and thrashed, but to no avail; all of its strength could not break the bonds of the starlight web. In its fury it began to spit out a thick, viscous liquid that seemed to be liquid gold. The girl hopped away from the attack effortlessly, managing to avoid the sticky substance as it splashed across the floor. Rin grinned broadly as she turned to face the remaining two golems, brandishing her dual weapons and advancing. Now that her goal was in sight, she seemed even more focused than before, if such a thing was even possible. Despite the smile on her face, there was a relentless intensity in her eyes that bordered on blind rage. "Dalamar. You will dide for your atrocities." |
