Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

This place brought back memories more easily than she expected. She had only visited the floating city once before, and had met a vampire there who took her in as apprentice to train as an assassin. They didn’t get very far in the training before he disappeared off to someplace. She shrugged her shoulders at the memory as she walked along the side of the river. Her eyes were locked on the ground, as if searching for something. If one were to look at her from the side, it would seem that she was concentrating really hard to find something that was very small in size.

Her furfur was resting peacefully in the nape of her neck on her right shoulder. He seemed to be perfectly comfortable there, so she didn’t bother giving him any treats right now. He usually went out and found his own food because she had no idea what kind of stuff he eats, but she had just recently found out that he eats candy, so she bought a whole bunch of candy. She also managed to find a bag of endless space, which she now carried with her instead of that old backpack that she had for the longest time. This new beaded bag of hers was really handy. She was able to fit all of the candy, daggers, and any other items that she could ever dream of carrying with her now, now that she didn’t have to worry about it weighing her down.

While she was in town, she had heard about a very special gem that was said to give an evil-aligned being the ability to call upon a darker source of magic within themselves. She heard about people suddenly being able to curse others with incurable pain, and others gained the ability to steal away another’s life force just by a simple touch. She had a few ideas of who she’d like to use those abilities on, but she didn’t plan too far ahead until she found that gem. It would make her life so much easier, knowing that she could protect herself with more than just two enchanted daggers.

She continued walking along the side of the river, so deep in thought and concentration about this gem that she wouldn’t notice anyone else around until she bumped right into them. She didn’t even notice how nice the cool breeze felt. It was actually a beautiful day out, but this child was not one to prance around just because it might be a nice day. She was determined to retrieve this gem, and that was that.

Aiden sat in concentration along the river, his form unmoving but his mind whirling. Sunlight glinted from the top of the slow moving water of the river, turning the surrounding banks into almost tranquil scene. Birds chirped and the movement of animals could be heard in the tree groves lining the bank, but Aiden enjoyed none of it.

The elf had been in this position since midmorning, trying in vain to use what magical ability he had to find an object of extreme importance. Reaching out with his magic, Aiden felt around the banks and even into the river to find any trace of an evil aura. Despite the time he'd invested into the task, there was no hint of an out of place item, evil or not. An item that might not even exist, the elf thought with a slight smirk.

You think I'm making it up, elf? Eladrin asked, the celestial a constant presence in the elf's mind since their bond was formed. The gem exists. You heard the rumors yourself in the city.

"I just find it odd that we just happen to hear of the gem in Cascadia," Aiden replied aloud, "Every rumor you told me about on the way here originated in the Deep Cities, or even Norwood! There's no trace of the thing being here except the word of a drunken barkeep." The celestial was silent to the elf's response, but Aiden knew full well that it wasn't because he had won the fight. Eladrin was probably more content to wait and be proven right than have a protracted fight with the elf.

Aiden smirked as he returned his thoughts to the task at hand, but even he had to admit that the gem which Eladrin had described would be a tempting prize for any being aligned with the forces of darkness throughout Imythess. None more important to the elf than the notorious Divschatten. In reality, the only reason Aiden was wasting an otherwise beautiful day along the river was the hope that this clue might have some link to the shadowy group and even put him back on their trail. That, of course, was a misplaced hope if he couldn't even find the gem.

"The goose chase of the afternoon," he muttered to himself, smirking again as he could almost feel the displeasure of the celestial within pounding within his mind. . .

She just wished that this gem didn’t take too long to find. She knew she had a demon on her trail looking for revenge, and this gem would help her keep herself alive. She wasn’t ready to die yet. Her life was only just beginning!

The six-year-old (appearing to be six-year-old) red-headed girl stopped abruptly when she accidentally walked into somebody. Her senses suddenly came back, and she stepped away from him, hoping he wouldn’t be upset. She crossed her arms so that each hand was placed underneath of her bracers after she caught her balance. “I’m sorry.” She said, even though she didn’t really care about interrupting him. He seemed to be in deep concentration himself, and she could only hope that breaking his concentration wouldn’t make him want to attack her.

She froze in place, not knowing what to do. She was mainly just trying to figure out why his aura repelled her so much. It was like she couldn’t stand being around him no matter what he did or said. It didn’t matter how kind he was, or if he’d even be willing to help her find the gem that she’s looking for. Even if she tried to like him, it would never work out because of his aura. It was almost as if he was... celestial.

((sorry for the short post!! :( I hate keeping people waiting but my next post will be better! :) ))

Aiden sighed deeply as he continued his magic based search, though the effort seemed to be for naught. Not only was he no closer to finding any sort of evil object in the river, there was a nagging feeling that he was being watched that simply kept bothering him. He opened his eyes periodically, on the lookout for anyone happening to pass by the secluded river bank. The constant worry was beginning to get annoying, a fact that made the elf quite uncomfortable for obvious reasons.

If someone's watching, they may as well introduce themselves, he thought, forcing himself to stop worrying about the nagging feeling and concentrate on the job at hand. 'Besides, who would bother themselves with coming all the way out here anyway? There's not a path through the woods that leads to Cascadia nearby. There'd be no point in being out here.

Of course, just as Aiden realized that technically he had no reason to be out here, the nagging feeling became a physical encounter. A body collided with Aiden--at a slow speed of course--and knocked the elf from his concentration. "What the hell?"he asked as he stopped himself from tipping over onto the ground. Rounding on the troublesome presence, Aiden snarled...and stopped himself as he found himself looking ta the form of a very young girl.

"Hell," he muttered, scrambling to get up and figure out what was going on. "You're sorry?" he asked, incredulous. "Why are you out here? Where are your parents? You shouldn't be alone in the middle of the woods! This is a dangerous place, after all . . ."

She relaxed suddenly as he asked about her parents. A sly grin spread across her face as ideas started to pop into her mind. She tried to play it out like his reaction was simply amusing to her, that her smile always looked this way. She watched him as the man scrambled onto his feet and said that this place was really dangerous.

“Yes,” she responded, “I am sorry for bothering you.” She wiped the smile from her face as she kept talking, though. “My parents are dead, actually.” She kept quiet for a moment to watch his reaction to that, and then continued, “How is this place so dangerous? I don’t see anything that’s potentially harmful, unless you mean that you’re the reason for the danger.” She spoke so calmly and maturely that she hoped he would notice she was no ordinary girl...

She was tempted to go along with it and pretend that she got lost looking for her mother’s birthgem, but she obviously went against that temptation. She was more interested in seeing the truthful side of all situations anyway. Sometimes she hated her compulsive honesty. It seemed to get in the way a lot of having some fun.

Regardless of how her brain worked, she knew that she couldn’t let this stranger know about what she was looking for. For all she knew, he could be the protector of the gem and he’d do everything in his power to stop her. Considering the fact that she had never been up against anyone or anything with such a repelling aura before, she didn’t have much confidence that she’d win. So the best thing right now was to just avoid certain questions, or perhaps just be nice to him. She wasn’t sure, but at least it didn’t seem like he wanted to attack her. After all, she was just a lost little girl. . .

Aiden looked on as the girl started replying softly, an odd grin spreading across her face. The elf frowned a bit, wondering what on earth was so funny about the situation.

"Yes," she responded, “I am sorry for bothering you.” A pause followed her comment, then she continued, “My parents are dead, actually.”

The elf's eyes widened a bit before he calmly lowered his head a bit in respect. Poor girl, he thought, But I still don't trust her for some reason. Something about her...just doesn't feel right. The elf, still searching a bit for his elusive quarry, was too distracted to give the young girl much attention. "I'm sorry," he said sincerely, "but that doesn't change anything--this place is still too dangerous for a young girl. Perhaps we should head back to Cascadia?"

“How is this place so dangerous? I don’t see anything that’s potentially harmful, unless you mean that you’re the reason for the danger.”

Aiden narrowed his eyes, a feeling of distrust growing once more in his gut. The idea that something wasn't just right was becoming more than a passing thought. Eladrin? he thought, reaching out to the celestial buried within him.

Trust your instincts, was the only reply, though it clearly carried more than enough meeting.

"I'm not the dangerous one, trust me," Aiden said, nearly growling. "So? We should head back towards the city, no?"

She couldn’t help but giggle when he insisted that ‘this place’ was still too dangerous for a young girl. Yes, she was a girl, but she was certainly not young. Of course, that was not something that she would openly share.

She shook her head when he suggested that they head back to Cascadia. She didn’t come all the way out here just to head back to town as soon as she arrived. She found it a bit odd to hear a near growl in his voice, though. Perhaps her aura was repelling him as well... or something like that... “We?” she wondered, not sure how to word her questions. She wondered what made him think that she would ever follow him. She didn’t want to be rude about it, though.

She felt like she was already in a bad situation, so she didn’t want to make it any worse. However, she really didn’t want to follow this stranger anywhere until she understood exactly who he was, or even why he cared so much about her safety. It wasn’t like she cared about his safety, but then again, she appeared to be a child and of course all children were very fragile and inexperienced.

“Well, you say you aren’t dangerous and I don’t see anything else around, so I think I’m in the clear. What kinds of things are out here, anyway, that makes it so dangerous?” She asked, then beginning to step sideways to see if she could circle around him to continue on her way...

“Well, you say you aren’t dangerous and I don’t see anything else around, so I think I’m in the clear. What kinds of things are out here, anyway, that makes it so dangerous?”

Aiden paused for a moment, unable to give an answer immediately. There was no good reason to hold this girl back from going on her way. Sure, Aiden was concerned simply because no young girl should be alone in the forest. It was simply the normal concern that any adult would feel for a child--from his perspective, it was completely reasonable.

Yet, at the same time, Aiden knew that his reluctance also stemmed from his distrust of the girl before him. It didn't take a genius to figure out that something about this entire situation was a bit off...he just couldn't quite put his finger on what. Eladrin? Aiden thought, seeking guidance from the celestial he had jokingly taunted just a few minutes ago.

Focus, came the simple reply, causing Aiden to frown at the seemingly unhelpful suggestion. Focusing was all he'd done for the day. To simply do more of it didn't seem immediately sensible. And then Aiden realized what was going on--he couldn't tell what was bugging him because his magic was currently spread over such a wide area in search of the ever elusive (and probably mythic) gem.

"You're right," he said eventually, "Maybe I'm simply overreacting. You'll have to forgive me. You see, I've just picked up an item of sorts...rumored to be cursed with a bit of bad luck. I suppose I was just projecting my worry for myself onto you...which was unreasonable." Bowing a bit, Aiden gave a quick smirk and turned back towards the bank. "Sorry for the trouble then," he said, walking away a bit, but hoping that his comment about the stone would reveal this young girl's true interests.

What are the odds we're actually looking for the same thing? Aiden thought, a feeling of mistrust growing in his stomach by the second. . .

The girl wondered about her own words for a moment. Perhaps she was the most dangerous thing out here. She didn’t quite see herself so deadly just yet, but it was her first priority to be capable of defending herself if need be. Offensive spells were her specialty, after all.

She smiled at him as he backed off, and she stepped onward to continue on her way. However, when he mentioned having picked up an item of sorts, she hesitated. She didn’t believe that the gem would bring bad luck if the right person held it, but the way he spoke about it made her wonder. She really didn’t want anybody else getting to it first, but she hadn’t sensed anything evil on his person. She thought she’d be able to sense such things, just like how she could tell he was good-aligned. She had met her fair share of evil-aligned to tell the difference, and she also had a spell for back-up to detect another’s alignment.

She was slowly walking away, obviously giving his words some heavy thought. She then stopped and looked back at him, and then asked him, “What do you mean? Why would you pick up an item if you’re aware that it brings bad luck?” she didn’t smile as she asked this, but her facial expression wasn’t completely serious, either. It was like an inner smirk was waiting to be let out. If the stranger certainly did have what she was looking for, her search would end up being a lot easier than she originally anticipated.

She didn’t ask any other questions, or make any sudden movements. She was interested to see how he’d respond to her question. It would either catch him off guard, or it could even force him to tell her what he was thinking about. She had her full attention on him, but still made sure that she was aware of her surroundings. There were times that she’d lose focus and not pay attention, but those days were over. She would never make that mistake again.

She thought again about lying and saying that this gem was actually her brother’s, seeing as she already admitted that her parents were dead. It would surely make it easier for him to just hand it over... right? At least, if it was a family heirloom, it would be of much higher sentimental value to her, but the question was, how did it become lost that now required her to go looking for it? She was a bit disappointed in herself that she couldn’t even make up a lie. She had to figure out a way to get rid of her compulsive honesty. It always got in the way one way or another.

She kept her obsidian black eyes locked on the man, never looking away or even blinking. Her body was still, as if she wanted to make sure that her own sounds didn’t cover up any movement around her. One might think that she was frozen in fear about what he might do if he found out exactly what she was, but she was simply concentrating with her eyes wide open. This was one mission that she could not afford to mess up on.

Aiden smirked just a bit as he could tell that his words had had an effect on the young girl. This, of course, only served to reinforce the unease he felt regarding her presence and her intentions. She seems interested by the description alone, he thought, keeping his back turned towards the girl and his eyes on the river. Pretty generic, I think. Basically mirrors what I heard in town, doesn't necessarily mean that she's after it. I'll have to push a bit deeper if I really want to be sure.

“What do you mean? Why would you pick up an item if you’re aware that it brings bad luck?”

Sighing, Aiden shrugged and replied, "I'm not sure. To be honest, I don't think it brings bad luck so much as it brings darkness." Turning back to the girl, Aiden continued, "You see, apparently this stone brings power to those aligned with darkness or evil. It's particularly sought by a group apparently called the Divschatten' for rather obvious reasons I suppose." The elf trailed off, acting as though he didn't mean to reveal so much information.

"Sorry for the tangent," he said, waving his hand in the air, "I tend to do that sometimes when lost in thought. But again, sorry to delay you. You'll be on your way now, no?"

Crafty, elf, came Eladrin's voice, Though the method might come off as a bit obvious.

Pickers can't be choosers, my friend, Aiden thought back, Besides, it was an innocent enough statement. Though I suppose its relative 'innocence' might be determined by how she reacts. . .

Now she was certain that he had what she was looking for. She was actually at a loss for words right now. That stone was her answer to greater power for her defences, not for any sorts of offense like this elf was probably thinking. She wondered how many people actually knew about her guild.

She didn’t want to admit that she was part of the Divschatten, and she couldn’t just say Oh, thank you, you’ve found it?! because that wouldn’t go over very well. One question sprang to the front of her thoughts, however. She wouldn’t ask about what the Divschatten were, seeing as she already knew, and he already knew, so there must be lots of others that knew as well. So, common knowledge shouldn’t be frowned upon. She had to figure out if he actually had this stone in his possession, or if he was actually looking for it as well. She couldn’t understand why anybody would want to get in her guild’s way. It seemed to be very rude and almost selfish of them to get something that they have no use for before somebody else could come along and use it really well.

“No.” She said right away when he asked if she’d be on her way. For the time being, she was in the right spot. She didn’t have to be anywhere else right now, so she’d might as well stay and talk to this elf about the stone he spoke of. She was still standing frozen in place, watching him. “Then...” she tried to shift her weight so that she didn’t seem so nervous. “Why would you need it? Why would you pick it up?” she wondered, starting to talk as if he didn’t actually have the stone yet. She expected that the question would tell him right off the bat that she knew he was not in the guild. She wanted to know what was going on before she made any decision to attack him for it. There would be no point in using up her energy in a fight if he didn’t even have what she was looking for.

No, came the girl's simple reply.

The elf's eyebrow lifted slightly in surprise...and a bit of concealed satisfaction. So she bites after all. That's encouraging. She seems to know more about this than she let on earlier...which is starting to be a bad thing, I think.

“Then...why would you need it? Why would you pick it up?”

Aiden shrugged, seemingly nonchalant, but fully aware of the girl's increased nervousness regarding the situation. "Why that's simple," he said, his eyebrows knitting together, "To destroy it, of course. I'll have to take it back to Cascadia or maybe even Norwood, but regardless, I'll see that a stone of such reputed evil is destroyed before it falls into the wrong hands." From the tone of Aiden's voice, it seemed that all this was but a foregone conclusion. He wanted to leave it beyond a shadow of a doubt that he not only had the stone, but planned to get rid of it once and for all.

You don't know her power, Eladrin warned mentally, She might have allies nearby, to boot.

One thing at a time to deal with, came Aiden's slow reply as he kept a close eye on the young girl. "So," he continued aloud, "What made you turn back? Are you interested after all?" He paused a bit before lowering his voice dangerously, "Or...perhaps you were searching for it? Which would make you more than just a little girl, wouldn't it. . .?"

OOC: Sorry, short post bleh

The second that the man said he was going to destroy the stone, her nervousness turned into anger. She didn’t care anymore what he thought of her. She was not about to let that stone get destroyed. “There is no pair of wrong hands for that stone.” She said in a warning tone. She was about to say something else when he came around with another question to her. She was tempted to shapechange into her older form, but decided against it for now.

“Fine, you got me, paladin.” She wasn’t entirely sure if he was a paladin or not, but she would know for sure if he didn’t deny it. She seemed to be a little girl with too many mischievous thoughts right now. The way she looked at him showed that she was determined to get that stone one way or another. “I am more than just a little girl, and I am searching for a stone. Why don’t you prove to me that you actually have it so that I know that I’m not wasting my time?” she asked him, keeping her arms crossed under her bracers where her shadow daggers were hidden. She didn’t want to threaten him just yet but she wanted to be ready just in case he threatened her.

“And what made me turn back-“ she stopped herself, momentarily cursing under her breath for her honesty. She couldn’t believe that she couldn’t even stop herself from saying something. “Was that I am searching for a stone that might be the same one as you say you have. I’m searching for this stone so that I can use it to better my defences. Not for some unruly evil that you speak of.”

When he spoke in a lowered, dangerous tone, she started to worry about how powerful he really was. Perhaps right now he didn’t seem to be that dangerous, but she didn’t seem all that dangerous either... Soon enough, Rimmon’s familiar furfur (the ball of fluff sitting upon her shoulder) named Corson started making strange little squeaks in her ear, sounding like a hare of some sort. She jumped at the sound, never having heard the furfur make any sort of noises before. Maybe Corson knew something was going on, or that something was wrong with this situation and he was trying to tell her something. She wasn’t able to understand what the little furfur was trying to say, but she would take caution to her situation now.

She still felt angry that this man wanted to destroy the only stone that she was looking for, but she had to do her best to pay attention to everything he said and did. She didn’t want to get into any trouble like she had so many times before. However, this was the first good-aligned that she had come across. She still didn’t know what to expect, though. So long as he didn’t find out that she was a demon of the Divschatten guild, then she was sure she’d be fine... for now...

Fine, you got me, paladin. I am more than just a little girl, and I am searching for a stone. Why don’t you prove to me that you actually have it so that I know that I’m not wasting my time?

While this was the answer that Aiden had been looking for all along, it was still a bit of a shock to hear it so bluntly. For all the bluster that had gone into milking out the answer, now there was a sense of unease within the elf that had nothing to do with the young girl's now obvious intentions. Attacking a girl isn't quite within my abilities, he thought, Though...if it's necessary to stop this stone from getting into the wrong hands, then it must be done.

He held up a hand just after she spoke again. "No real need to explain," he said slowly, placing his other hand on the hilt of his sword. "Let's be absolutely clear though, shall we? No matter your intentions, I will have to assume that they aren't...in either your best interest or anyone else's." He let the tone of his voice define exactly what he meant by "best interest." "If you, or anyone else wants the stone, I'm afraid I can't just hand it over. Like I said, the very nature of the thing is what causes concern, not necessarily who wields it. And for that reason, I don't think I'll be handing it over so easily."

With that, Aiden let loose a bit of magic into the air, the effort barely registering as a flick of the wrist. In response, the temperature around the riverbank soared, the heat quickly becoming unbearable. "You see, you're not quite wrong with the guess of Paladin," Aiden continued, "But you're close enough. And I could detect the hint of revulsion in your voice, no matter how well you tried to disguise it. So, unless you convince me otherwise, I'm afraid we'll have to regard each other as enemies."

Aiden's voice lowered to a growl as he finished, "And in that case, getting the stone will have to entail a fight, my dear. . ."

Her anger rose as the temperature did but she didn’t notice that it was his doing also because she knew the same spell. She slowly stepped toward him, shapeshifting into an older version of herself. By the end of the transformation, she appeared to be about 18yrs old, her hair had grown longer, and her clothing had grown to match her body as well. The iris in her eyes turned into a light purple as she stared angrily at the elf.

She was not enjoying the heat at all, though. It was not something she wanted to experience for very long as she noticed that even any moisture in the air was taken away. Luckily, this would not affect any of her spells that she had up her sleeve. “You will hand it over one way or another.” She demanded in a dangerous tone. “If you value your ability to breathe, it would be in your ‘best interest’ to give me the stone.” She stopped stepping toward him once she was about an arm’s length away. He’d be able to see her eyes in detail now: completely black orbs with rings of light purple to define the iris. There was also a sliver of colour in the corner of each iris, which right now appeared to be a dark teal colour.

She still kept her hands underneath her masterwork bracers, waiting for the moment to withdraw her shadow daggers. She was tempted to dig through her bag of never-ending space for her daggers of torment, but that would have to wait. Her eyes needed to be on her opponent right now. “I’m perfectly fine with having another enemy in my life.” She grinned, slowly withdrawing her daggers. “I expected to get a few of those.” By the sound of her voice, it seemed like she was in a good mood now despite how angry she was. She had actually wanted to fight somebody for a while now to see what areas of combat she needed to improve in. She just hoped she didn’t lose too quickly. She wasn’t sure how she’d do, bringing daggers into a sword fight, but she’d have to put her agility to the test...
