Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

What I have Gained and Lost FIN; Cade

Vyse looked up at the sky, a brilliant light blue, the sun shining down, not a cloud in the sky... but unlike the sky, he had plenty of clouds in his mind, raining down disaster and destruction on his mind and body. His bloodwrath destroying his insides, his greatest weapon was killing him, he needed to control it, he had gained some control over it... but lost the protection of his fighting style, he was a lot more reckless and offensive which fit him fine, made him more erratic, unpredictable in combat. He sighed as he heard growling from nearby, Umbriel wasn't supposed to be back for a few hours, she was hunting and she usually ate it before wandering back, that could only mean one thing... bandits. He sat up and looked around, six bandits riding worgs were closing on him, it was obvious they didn't even want to stop and talk, they were just going to kill him and take his valuables, which amounted to the four swords on his belt and the four maces on the leather holster he had on his back.

Vyse sighed as he took out two blades, his original weapons, the longsword Sophaur and the cutlass Blitz. He muttered their names, sparking their enchantments to life, the longsword glowing white, giving off a holy aura as the cutlass became wrapped in electricity, even making contact parrying that weapon would send a jolt into his foes. He looked as they charged him, their weapons raised in the air as they whooped and jeered, the first one rushing in with a woodsman's axe, swinging it at his head, it was foolish, none could stand in his way in a match of power, not even a worg and rider. Vyse stepped forward, with a flash of his blades the man's arm became severed at the elbow and the worg's legs on one side of it flew out, scattering along the path. This only seemed to anger the bandits as they continued their charge, Vyse simply walking towards them, cutting off legs, arms, worg heads, his blade speed was that of a master and his strength was that of a dragon, the last man stopped his worg, turning around trying to flee. Vyse smirked, at least one had some smarts, but not enough, he was still within ten yards, it was perfect, he dropped his cutlass, reaching up for one of his maces, bringing it out, throwing it as the enchantments activated. The mace soared through the air, spinning until it connected with the back of the man's head, crushing it with the force of a dragon behind the throw, the mace flying back to his hand, Vyse easily caught it, putting it away. He picked up his fallen blade, sheathing it in a short flourish to flick the blood from his blades, he looked at the corpses before shrugging, ready to move on, bandits were a nuisance, one he constantly stamped out, a few corpses were nothing compared to the mountain of bodies he slew to save countless others.

Vyse looked down the road, Umbriel could sniff him out, she would be fine, he began his walk, hoping for someone pleasant to talk to soon, after all, even he got lonely when Umbriel wasn't around.

Cadence hid away in the watchpost just outside of Kellen, on the fringes of the Debon Plains. A majority of the windows were blocked up, cloaks pinned to the edges to keep the medium-sized one-room building in the shadows.
Four men stood at different posts in the room, two sitting at a table, one on a stool in the corner, and one at a window, eye to a hole cut in a cloak facing the road. A fifth guard, armor stripped away and shirt removed, lay on the table with a heavily cloaked figure at its head.

The cloaked man pulled his right sleeve back, exposing a pale, nearly alabaster hand. He pulled his hood down to expose long black hair, bangs parted down the middle and the rest pulled into a ponytail. Icy blue eyes nearly shone with their own light, glimmering in the dimmest flicker of a candle.

He thrust his fingertips into the man's shoulder, squeezing it in between collarbone and shoulder blade, digging through organs easily to reach his heart. He cupped the muscle in his hand and began casting a spell, life draining from the victim and flowing through Cadence's arm, filling him with life energies.

The feeling brought an overwhelming sensation of euphoria to the starving vampire, who had closed his eyes to the blood, reveling in the warmth flowing through him. He felt a tingle in his limbs, as if every nerve was waking up. For a second, his heart beat one, twice, then stopped.

Cadence sighed. For a brief second, he'd been alive again.

In the feelings, his grip on the guard's mind at the window slipped. The man was the only one who'd been allotted any level of cognition, scouting for any intruders. The man's eyes opened as he turned around to see what was happening, fear evident upon seeing a stranger up to the elbow in one of his friends, blood streaming freely.

Hissing, Cade tore his arm from the guard, moving to catch the free guard. The man shouted, dashing to the door and throwing it open, running into the path. Sunlight streamed into the room. Cadence threw an arm up against the rays, but not before it seared the flesh on the side of his face and his hand, leaving them raw and charred in spots.

Hissing in pain, the vampire seized one of the cloaks pinned against the windows, pulling his own up, drawing on a pair of gloves, and wrapping the cloth around his face like a scarf skin covered thickly, he exited the guardhouse, stalking after the fleeing guard, who made for an approaching traveler, heavy laden with blades and maces. “Help! He's--” The man stumbled for words on just exactly what Cade was, and took too long. The vampire mentally sent a burst of raw psychic energy, scrambling his thoughts and overwhelming his senses. The man fell to the ground clutching his head.

Looking up from the shadows of his hood, the vampire cocked an eyebrow. “He assaulted me and ran.”

Vyse walked down the road for several hours, he wasn't tired, he wasn't hungry, he was just bored, though a short distance from Kellen he saw one of their guards run out, and then fall down clutching his head, Vyse raised in eyebrow as he looked towards the man in the heavy robes. He spoke what could have been the truth, but he couldn't be sure, he crouched down and looked at the man's face, he vaguely recognized him as one of guards of Kellen, he had come here often to teach their recruits mounted combat basics and taught their vets how to become a Charger, like himself. Vyse shook his head, "We can take it up with the guards, right? So stop whatever magic you're using and lets take him into the guard so you two can be questioned by the guard, unless you have anything to hide." He heard something behind him, soft but heavy footfalls, he smirked as his dire tigress stepped up next to him, sitting down next to Vyse, a helmet and blade tied to the side of the saddle, Vyse took the helmet and popped it onto his head, a hiss came from the helmet as it sealed off, Vyse was ready for any kind of magic this man might do now.

Vyse keot the fifth sword in the corner of his eye, Niteo, truly a sword of great power, but also it could easily be evil, he had seen the blade give back a murderer's mind, though it had also made a man revert to that of a child, the only time when he was good apparently. Now he had the crossguard and scabbard fused together and enchanted to never come apart unless his foe was broken, the chain keeping the blade inside would only break when it's own conditions were met it would shatter, he brought a hand to it, taking it off the saddle loop and placed it into the leather weapon holster on his back. He kept his eyes trained on the robed man, waiting for his decision.

“With the guards? Who would take a stand against a guard assaulting a commoner?” Cade glanced at the swordsman from beneath his hood. “Less than a commoner. Outcasts who commoners spit on. Who stands for them?”

Cadence approached the guard curled on the ground, unphased by the appearance of the tigress, large as she was. He knelt down, reaching a hand to rest on the cowering man's brow. “Don't you remember?” The shrouded man's figure shimmered for a moment, followed seconds after by a flash under his hand. “You remember how you hurt me, don't you?” The guard went slack-jawed, eyes glazing over for a second before his mind returned.
“I-- I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring any harm. I shouldn't have...” The man stammered, confidence draining further s he spoke.

Cade stood straight, running his fingers across the guard's cheek.

“Oh, my dear man. As if you didn't have enough enemies already, you go and make more?” Cade's eyes gleamed.

Looking up to the warrior, the vampire squinted at the helm he had put on. He could barely make out the magic around it, probing around it gingerly. By the makeup of the enchantment, he could hazard a guess that its purpose was anti-magic. “And you?” He hissed. “Is everyone so desperate for foes?”

Vyse heard the malice in his voice, he could even tell that the man was changing, his eyes were glazed over and he seemed to become sad, this had to stop. He pulled forth his longsword, Sopheur, his cutlass Blitz, his Lan De Yue Jia, Lita, and his throwing mace which he had not named yet. He walked towards the robed man, "I suggest you step away from him, I've trained the guards in Kellen, they are good people, sure they have a few sour apples, but this man is not one of them, I keep track of corrupt guards in the towns using merchants and informants since I give them medical supplies and some weapon shipments." He walked over to him, sheathing his cutlass and grabbed the man's arm, lifting the guard from beneath the robed man. His monstrous strength easily forcing him away from him as he picked him up, he brought him to Umbriel, putting the man on the man on the saddle, putting his feet into the stirrups and let him slump against Umbriel's back, he swatted her hindquarters and let her off, she walked around the robed man, giving him a wide berth.

Vyse eyed the man as he drew his cutlass again, keeping his eyes out for any strange movements or for any muttering, his extra arms were easily holding the weapons as he let them rest, "Now, we can talk, yeah? Your magic was a little obvious when the man completely changed, his eyes lost their luster, he seemed to stall in thought before thinking, now, shall we get walking to the guard so you two can explain it, or are you going to resist?" He tapped his foot, waiting for his answer.

Cadence let the newcomer lift the guard with no resistance, stepping back to give him room. Steps behind him drew his attention, nearly backing into the tiger as she carried the guard on her back. “Sour apples? You don't say. Seems to be quite a few among the people here.” the vampire walked sideways, intending to keep in motion. “I had no intentions of hiding what I was doing. The man remembers attacking an innocent bystander, beating him severely with no warning. He'll brood on the thought, failing to reassure himself. Slowly depression will set in as he wonders what drove him to it, questioning all he knows. It will seep into his work, creating a weak link in the law system of Kellen.”

The vampire laughed. “Fascinating chain of events. How fragile is the human mind if one can just... nudge, and set it to toppling.” He proclaimed, flicking a finger in the air.
“Resist? Why, that sounds like you're going to catch me.”

The vampire took another step to the side, and as he moved, he let a veil fall around himself. Not a second later, he simply ceased to exist, not a sound, scent, vibration, or sight to give him away. He spoke with his mind as he backed away from the four-armed fighter.
Cade relaxed in his veil, casting confidently and moving smoothly, weaving a spell in the air, looping hand over hand.

The guard in Umbriel's saddle moaned as the pangs of pain in his mind, leftover from the messy rending of his memories. He froze on her back, back arching, mouth opening in a silent scream as a wash of blood blossomed from his chest, wounds appearing with no apparent source. He jerked to the side, hand clutching at his face as four long slashes opened on his face, one trailing across his left eye. It was then he found his voice, shrieking with all he could muster. He coughed, blood beginning to seep from the corner of his mouth.

Cade stepped away, dancing back with his hands coated in a red sheen of blood.

“Will you resist, when I strip the tendons from your limbs?”

Vyse grimaced as he barked out an order, "Umbriel, run!" The dire tigress set off into a sprint, the corpse jostling and flying off her back, his feet leaving the stirrups. Vyse took a few steps forward, the man had shown his hand, he was evil, he had just killed the guard when it was obvious he could have gone to the guards, heard the story, and gotten off, but now he would have to deal with Vyse. He slowly looked from side to side, he needed to make sure the man didn't hit him with anything, his four weapons spun in the air, this was hopeless, he could not break magic that didn't target him, he would slowly get pulled apart by the man... unless... Niteo. He put his mace away, giving his extra hand the longsword as he put his new free hand on Niteo, he spoke clearly, talking to his blade, "You have seen it for yourself and heard his words, he is a murderer, a man of evil, he is a monster, he delights in torture, he needs to be stopped, in the name of justice, Niteo, come forth!" He pulled as the chains became slack, the glowing runes losing their power, and finally with a snap, the metal cracked and shattered, freeing Niteo from it's sheath.

Vyse held it up, letting the magic bless him and give him new strength, he called out, "Come out and surrender, you murdered a man who did not deserve it, you tortured him with your magic, and you stole his will with your powers, now submit yourself into custody." In truth he could do nothing, but Niteo made it so no evil actions could take place, it gave a blessing to those who were good, but it made it rather hard to kill without a good reason, so all he could do was ask for his surrender, if he was truly evil, then his new good actions would hopefully force him into the open, all he could do was wait.

The sight of yet another sword made him scoff for a second, before he saw the runes sealing the blade into its sheath. His mind raced as he placed them, reading the flow of magic. The rune was powerful, without a doubt. An equal to his own, at least. He reached for Borael for a second before tossing the thought aside.

He was curious.

The chains holding the blade in shattered, and the sword came free with cracking metal and the ring of steel. The sound grated on his nerves, a different kind of magic rolling over him on seeing the blade. Seconds expanded into seeming hours as he felt the sword's magic work at him, twisting his core. What shocked him more than anything was how it seemed to grab at the pieces and ideas in his mind and pulled them together into a whole, boiling down to his base principles. He felt a small will to accomplish something helpful, to do 'good'.

Cadence shuddered, feeling the man's words as much as he heard them, working with the blade to bring guilt on the vampire. He stopped moving, pushing away his veil. The man slid into view, back straight, stance showing a measure of purpose.

“I will admit the twisting and torture of the man had no purpose.” The vampire spoke, voice now smooth and crystal clear. “And I may be willing to sit and speak with you, on the grounds that you accept there may have been a measure of justice in his death. And that if I am to surrender to your custody, we do so indoors.” The vampire gestured to the guardhouse nearby, windows shrouded. Mentally, he gave a command to the men inside. They moved immediately, setting to cleaning up the interior of the space of blood.

Inside his head, Cade was at war with himself. The comfortable clutter of emotion and primal drive had been cleared away, leaving behind a smooth, sanitary state of mind. He was in control, for the most part. It was him making the decisions, but they were heavily guided by the blade. He no longer felt a desire to strike at the man for interfering, he was only standing for an injustice that he saw.

Perhaps not so different from himself.

Vyse stood his ground, watching as he seemed to change, his voice was... clear now, he seemed to be in the right mindset, he was in his sight, he could kill him now... but that was murder, even if it would be better for the world, it was an evil action to murder him where he stands. He sheathed all of his weapons, except for Niteo which he kept in his right hand, he walked towards him, nodding, "I am willing to listen to you sir, but I must say this now, murder, no matter what reason, is evil. Just remember, there is a difference between what is good, and what is best for the world. Even I know that evil actions can make the world a better place." He looked at the man and tried to think of reasons why he would want to go inside, he might as well ask.

Vyse tapped his helmet, "Now, we should at least exchange names, I am Vyserial Noclan, Head Merchant of Noclan Merchants Company, now who might you be?" He would wait for his answer then follow him, he would have to follow the man to know what he truly was and his reasons to murder that man.

“There is a purpose behind every murder. Everyone dies for a reason. And everyone is at the mercy of everyone else.” Cade turned his head to glance at the man out of the corner of his eye.
“And that sounded like a threat.”

A new figure joined the scene, a woman exiting the guardhouse with brown hair that reached just past her shoulder blades. She looked immediately in the vampire's direction, rushing to meet him. “Are you alright?” She pressed, worry heavy in her voice. Cade waved her off, blocking a curious hand from reaching into his hood to touch the place his cheek had been burned through. “I'll be fine.”

Mary squeezed his shoulder once and looked back to the swordsman, her gaze blank, eyes glazed over for a second as she processed the scene. She jerked her head as she watched the man, turning back and ignoring him completely.

The robed man continued to the guardhouse, not pausing as he spoke.

“Cadence Blackwell, co-founder of the Shadow Society.” He opened the door to the guardhouse, flooding it with light and entering, Mary following close behind.

Vyse watched the woman for a bit, he could feel something was wrong, but as long as Niteo was out of his sheath he had little to worry about. He followed them into the old guardhouse, he could still smell blood in the air, it gave him a headache as his bloodwrath tried to take hold, he was lucky, the smell wasn't to strong, he could handle at least this much. He kept his blade in his hand, making sure it was within Cadence's sight at all times, he had little protection against magic, he would need to invest in some kind of magic and put it into a weapon for safe keeping and easy access, but that would have to wait for another day.

He looked to the woman and Cadence, also to the several other guards he had in here, Vyse grimaced, either they were betraying their posts, were dirty guards, or were under the man's thumb one way or another. Vyse sighed, "Alright, please start from the beginning and explain thoroughly, I don't want to misunderstand anything and make this situation any worse then it has to be, so please, begin Cadence." He waited for the man to begin, his mind churning for any thoughts that could justify killing the man as a good action, though he doubted he would find one, after all, murder was evil, he would have to sheathe Niteo before fighting him, and that would get rid of his only defense.

Cadence entered the guard house with Mary in tow, sighing as he entered the darkness. He waited for Vyse to enter behind him before pointing fingers at the guards, flicking directions for them. They took posts at windows and the door, making sure they stayed closed. “Just a precaution.” He nodded to the swordsman. The vampire began unwrapping himself, removing the cloak and gloves, taking the scarf from his face, revealing glowing eyes, smooth, angled features, and a huge burn reachig across the right side of his face, going a couple of inches into his hairline. Mary gasped and sat at the table, outstretching an arm.

Cadence took a seat next to her, slipping a white hand into hers. A spark of magic took hold as the two connected. His burn began shrinking, hair regrowing where it had burnt away. Looking at the Swordsman, he cocked his head.

“The way you speak, you sound as if you've never killed in pursuit of a cause. Has something ever gotten in your way, with no way past it but bloodshed?” Cadence lifted his hand to feel the damage to his face, now gone. He slipped his hand from Mary's quickly, severing the connection before he drained too much. The woman began swaying in her seat. “Take a rest, dear.” He waved toward a makeshift cot in the back.

“These five men objected to me pursuing my objective. One was severely injured in the process, without hope for help. He was used to repair damage done to myself. The others... they now further my goals in whatever way they can. If one slipped away, he poses a threat to my entire operation. I cannot have it be known I am in town as long as I have work here, yet.”

Cade drew a silver compass from a pocket of the worn suit he wore, blood encrusted on its surface. “I was collecting this.” He flipped the cover on the compass, the mark of a Silver Hound.

Vyse watched as he regenerated, obviously from how the woman was acting afterward he was draining her to heal himself, he frowned, the man was using what he considered as evil magic, but since he was able to use it, it must only be a person's physical energy, something that can be replaced by rest. He shook his head, "I used to purge evil from the world by any means necessary, murder, poisoning, I know all about it, it is still evil to end a life in cold blood. Despite the results being for the greater good, it was still an evil action." He thought over all of his past killing and murders, he had done a lot of that a year ago, but now he was a merchant, a man of renown and responsibility, he couldn't do as he pleased anymore, he had to think first.

He became enraged when the man held up the bloody compass, he had killed a Silver Hound, Vyse growled, "Do you know that these men have families and loved ones, Silver Hounds are here to protect the weak, destroy evil, and make the world in general a safer place for the common man. I should know, I am a Silver Hound, I was invited into it by it's leader, now, give me that compass, I need to make sure it gets back to the family of that Silver Hound, it should have his initials on the inside of the lid, so before we continue, please give me all of the compasses you have, it is my duty to make sure they make it to their families." He held out his free hand, waiting for the compass.

Cadence shrugged. “Evil acts are all a matter of perception. It all depends on who the victim is, and which 'side' you're on. All weep for a murdered human child, but who weeps for the children of the dead? Outcasts are often ignored by society. But everyone deserves a home. That is what I offer them. A home, a family. Peers.” Cadence leaned over the table.

“These men are killing my children, Vyserial Noclan, Silver Hound.”

He nodded, setting the compass on the table and pushing it forward. “If we were not hunted, there would be no need to fight. No need to shed blood of loved ones to save that of our own. The hounds that hunt us, dog our footsteps, so to speak, and strike at us, will be punished. If your allies continue to hunt my children and brothers, I will continue returning their compasses to the Hounds, stained with blood. I am counting the lives, Vyserial.”

One of the guards walked forward with a long wooden box. Cadence took it and set it on the table, sliding the lid open. Eight silver compasses sat in two rows of four, each striped with blood.

“Take them. Return them to their families to weep for and blame the hunted for defending themselves.” He nodded his head, sliding the box across the table.

“Given the chance, I am not without heart or reason.”

Vyse shook his head, "Some actions are evil no matter the perspective, while most things go under shades of grey, I believe no matter the perspective that some things are evil, communing with demons, slaughtering innocent bystanders, and forcefully taking a woman." Vyse nodded to him, "Your desires may be good, but if it causes problems for the common man people like the Silver Hounds will step in, just because someone is an outcast doesn't mean they can't find a place in the world of the common man. I was cast out by my father and lived as an outcast, only going around and killing bandits and people who I believed deserved it. I have seen many people with horrible disfigurements, from all different races, from every corner of Chaon, only those who think themselves better then everyone and think they are above the laws of the land are the ones we hunt."

Vyse nodded when he heard about the compasses, he used his free hand to take the compasses and put them into his jacket pocket, he would have to clean them later before delivering them to the families. Vyse pointed Niteo at him, "I will not tell them to weep, I will tell them their sons and daughters, husbands and wives, sisters and brothers... all died in battle fighting the men of the Shadow Society. A lesson I learned from a bard, the power of words, they will weep, but they will show pride at the fact their family fell as they have lived. Now Cadence, I need not know what you are doing currently, but it's obvious at the time that I can't really stop you from doing whatever, all I can do is stall you." He pulled forth Lita and pointed it at him, saying only one word, "Cage." A cage of light surrounds Cade, Vyse spoke once again before turning to walk away, "You will be in that cage for ten minutes, since I can't do much more then that at the moment, consider it minimum punishment for the murder of that guard, next time though, I will be going for your head." Vyse pushed open the door, Umbriel was a short distance away, he waved her over, mounting her quickly, he let her run, she had been worried about her master, and Vyse had more important things to do then kill a single man. He grimaced as Umbriel sprinted away, he would need a plan to kill Cade the next time they met.
