Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

"You really aren't doing well, are you?" Zena, said stroking the man's hair. "Just a big, torn, teddy bear. Don't worry, you're in good hands. I'll have you stitched right back up. We should probably start out here, though, if you're feeling that unwell. Hang on!" She bounded into a back room, quickly returning with a small vial of something brown and soupy. "Have a sip for sobriety. The stench of ale, I'm afraid, rather detracts from your charm."

"Now then, if you're really sure about paying in gold, we'll get started." She placed hands on the side of his head, whispering a quiet spell that caused her hands to glow. She pushed the healing magics into the warrior's mind, easing the bruising his brain sustained in the fight. She moved a hand to his arms, gently stroking his wound and finishing Shan's own clumsy spell's work without a scar.

"That should help your head, at least. I'm not allowing headaches here!" she giggled. "Now, what's under these bandages?" With ginger movements, she pulled back one of the bandages and tut tutted. "Now these are some nasty burns. Second degree, some third. Looks electrical in origin, and old! I wouldn't be shocked if some of your symptoms are from infection! What would possess you to not come sooner?"

"I think he only showed up today," Shan said, trying to remain inconspicuous in a corner.

"Shan, through that door and too the left you'll find a bath. I keep spare cloths in there you can borrow for now. There's no need to smell as you do, either."

"There's no need to insult my smell. I have vomit on me."

"Which is my point. Now go," she ordered. Shan sighed. A bath did sounded fantastic, as did new things to wear. She could just be more blunt. "As for you," he heard as he walked into a windowless hallway decorated with tasteful pictures and lamps, "We shall go through this door here, my teddy bear, and get you stripped so we can really begin work. Don't worry if this is your first time. I'll be gentle."

Why does she always speak in double entendres, Shan thought. It's not like she plans to take it anywhere. Shan took as quick a shower as he could, wishing he could savor the luxury of a heated cascade of water but not wanting to leave his new companion alone too long. He left his soiled clothing on the floor and dressed in a off-blue, billowing shirt and gray pants that had probably started life as black before fate's cruel washings stole its darkness. He wandered back to the waiting room and sat down with his instrument. He was a bit perturbed to find the wood had cracked a bit. That bandit had a harder head than expected. Drawing his bow from the case as well, he began to play, activating the Mending enchantment with a touch of will. Slowly, the wood began to seal back together, healing like broken flesh in fast motion. Since it would also increase Zena's healing spells even more, he kept playing softly. If she really wanted him to stop, after all, she could tell him.

Thank goodness that man has some money left his second thoughts said.

It's not like it's that bad, his common sense said. I should also point out you don't even know this person's name, and you're going to some rather far lengths to aid him.

What's your point? Shan's compassion bristled.

Nothing. Just ask the man's name when you get a chance. I think you've gone through enough together to ask that without penalty.

So...what's the plan if there are screams? Shan's caution asked.

We run in, save Bear man, and smooth things with Zena. his second thoughts said. What else would it be?

Telo was drawn into the womans rush and quick thinking, incapable of even getting more than a single thought or action through before she had him doing something else, drinking down the weird liquid that tasted oddly sweet as he mentally laughed at the woman's quick wit and stating things so as to make a comical situation out of something that was somewhat serious. He didn't speak when she determined that his injuries were electrical and severe, and he didn't say anything other than to lightly chuckle at the fact she seemed to be able to command Shan, which was no large feat but she could probably use her presence to order even royalty into submission.

Then she led him into another room and began stripping him, swiftly but gently, careful not to cause him any pain whatsoever, though he did wince once in a while and she put on an exasperated, yet a little worried, look. It was about the time she finished stripping him down so as to see all his injuries that he realized she had somehow healed his injury. He had no clue how she had done it so quickly but he assumed that her healing skills were quite good if his new friend had chosen her to take him to in his current condition.

Of course, at this time a sharp intake of breath warned him that she was not pleased with what was revealed, that his injuries were probably a lot more severe than he had assumed and when he looked down at himself he saw them all splayed out before him. Massive burns across his right side, severe cuts all across his chest that appeared to have been caused by shattered steel, burns all across his lower torso and his upper arm was also likewise injured.

The woman had estimated second and some third degree burns, however the bandage she had moved had been on his left side and so the damage had been minimal, whereas his entire right side was blistered and burnt, even some charred. Quite honestly, it was a wonder that he had traveled as far as he had, but the great endurance he possessed had brought it to the point where he hadn't even realized the extent of his damage, though the fact that most of the nerves had been destroyed probably had more to do with it than anything.

Zena gasped a bit when she saw just how much damage the man had been carrying. No wonder Shan took an interest in him. She had hoped that the majority of the burns were only the blisters and bubbling associated with second degree burns, but it seemed a great deal of his body the deep damage of dead nerves and blackened flesh.

"Well, now, I know the stereotype is men of the blade are rather slow of mind, and it doesn't do to prove it true by bearing your injuries. It impresses no one when you pass out in the middle of the street." She let her hands float above the flesh, balancing a cushion of life magic between his body and her hands, never truly letting it touch her skin. "I suppose it says something for your constitution that you are still up and about after it seems you took a direct bolt to the torso. Your friend Shan would have passed out days ago. Still," she said, letting the magic penetrate into the depth of his body, reviving and reconnecting deaden nerves and charred muscle, "I suggest never doing this again, no matter your reasoning at the time. That's a healer's orders." She slowly moved to another patch of scars, concerned now with returning his senses to life rather than making her work aesthetically pleasing. Zena perked her head up as she heard the sounds of fiddle music, and her healing spells increased in potency, and extraordinary feat considering her mastery in the skill. She only smiled at this, using Shan's music to proceed more quickly.

"This, I am afraid, is going to take a while," she said, pausing to recover some mana. "And since I believe that was your day's rations on Shan's clothing, I know you've not been eating properly. Ale is not liquid bread, no matter what you and your friends joke at the tavern. Wait one moment." She moved smoothly to the door. "Shan," she said to the relaxing bard. "Be a dear and grab a meal for my patient. Something healthy of course The takeaway down the street does a divine chicken sandwich and soup combination. You can get something for yourself as well, for being such a good assistant."

Shan looked up from his playing. "With what money? I just got in town." He dropped his bow abruptly to catch the small leather pouch flung at his face.

"Since it's essential to my patient's wellbeing, it's on me. Try the amaranth flat bread with chickpea puree. I've had many friends swear by it."

With a shrug and a potential free meal, Shan left, and Zena turned back to Telo. "He's such a dear. I feel almost bad you have money, but I do need more funds to buy the herbs I can't grow. You'd be surprised how many people are dead set against magic used on them. Now, back to work."

She continued working as the front door opened and closed. A knock came on the clinic door. She left her work to answer.

"Brought the food. Um, here's the change," Shan said, a half eaten piece of unleavened bread in his other hand.

"Wonderful! If you could keep playing, by the way, I would appreciate it. I do work so much better to it."

"That was kind of the reason I was playing. Is it going to be much longer?"

"Oh, he's much worse than I first surmised, to be honest. He might have to come back for a second or third session if he wishes for cosmetic reconstruction, but I can make him well again tonight, assuming he doesn't mind the scarring for a time."

"Alright, Zena. Thanks again."

"Your friend is paying me, so need for thanks, unless you want to provide a tip...?"

"Um...I'll just sit down and play again," Shan said nervously, closing the door slowly. The sounds of music drifted through the door again.

"Such a silly man. It should be another hour or so, but I'll have you up and feeling again in no time. There'll be scarring, since I don't have enough mana to heal all of this at once. However, as I said, come back tomorrow and I should be able to get rid of the worst of it. And don't worry, you'll be leaving with your skin intact." She handed Telo the sandwich and poured a glass of water for him. "Eat and drink as much as you want. We can always send Shan out for more. This is a drain on you as much as it is on me, after all, and Shan's too much of a nice guy to say no anyway. So easy to manipulate."

"I heard that," came a muffled call from the other side of the door.

"I'm sure you did, dear. I left the sound dampening spell off. I'm not having you in here while working on another patient, and there's no point in having you here if I can't hear you play!"

She leaned close to the warrior. "Don't worry. If you have some other issues that are embarrassing but need addressed, I can put the spell up in a heart beat, and everything spoken will just be between us and whatever gods listen to you. I don't gossip about my patients," she said as she began to cast again, "and trust me, if I could, I would have so many juicy treasures. So many tales of what was removed from who's where, but as I said, I don't gossip about my patients. It's horrendous form.

"And if you don't have anything to say, eat and drink up. That's a healer's orders."

Telo grunted and hissed, fighting the pain that he felt when his nerves were reconnected and healed, when his damaged skin was fused back, and every single time he felt feeling come back into a previously destroyed part of his body he almost let out a yell of pain. Meanwhile he shoved food into his mouth and chewed, attempting to keep his mind off the returning feeling as he devoured the sandwich as if he had been starved for months, chugging down the glass of water swiftly and ultimately finishing his meal somewhat quicker than he had anticipated he would. No matter, he didn't want to put too much in his stomach just to expel it later.

Hours later Telo was finished being healed, Zena may not have been particularly gentle in her healing, but she had been thorough, and though she had healed him completely he still had the scars from the healing. Again, no matter, Telo did not care to look pretty and merely prefered he be effective, so when she suggested that he return tomorrow so as to be "prettied back up" he shook his head and politely declined. He had things to do, places to be, and he had no need to look pretty.

So, standing up he paid the woman, exited the room, spoke to Shan quickly and began heading out, no longer drunk as he had been earlier and quite able to fight anyone who dared to go up against him now that he was healed.

Shan looked up when he heard the clinic door open once more. The man walked out, wincing a bit, but moving and acting far better than he had before. Zena smiled and waved at him from the door. "Feel free to come again if you need to. My door is always open, even more so at night!" She closed the door once more, leaving Shan and the man alone in the waiting room.

"Well, that seemed to go well," Shan said. "As I told you, she's rather odd, but she is a good healer. They exchanged a few brief words before the man turned to leave.

"H-hang on!" Shan said, hoping to stop him for just a moment. "You know, I never got your name earlier. Just in case you were a bit too intoxicated to catch it, my name is Shan. Shan Orison." He stuck out a hand and smiled up at the warrior. "It was a pleasure to meet you, even though I kinda got us ambushed, and Zena was being Zena....Well, it was an adventure, at least."

Telo chuckled when the little man came chasing out after him and turned to shake his hand. The grasp he had upon the younger mans hand was one that denoted power without the attempt to crush, no, rather it was a polite form of revealing much of his strength without hurting the man and so when he introduced himself Telo nodded politely before he himself supplied an introduction.

"My name is Telo Acosto, no title as it is, and I do agree with you that it has been a pleasure and an adventure. The ambush was not a problem, for as we came out of it mostly undamaged, even though I was of little help, I have no qualms. Now, however, I think we must sleep...shall we return to the tavern from whence we came? Yes, I do suppose we shall...but you will have to lead as I remember naught of the way we passed."

As he supplied this last he chuckled yet again, a deep and hearty rumble that was so peculiar coming from a man as large and scarred as he. And then he added one last thing as an afterthought.

"Also, I will be paying for your room when we return, as thanks for what you have done for me tonight, and do not even think of declining because then I might be angry."

Yet again the last of his sentence was stated with a different inflection, this time one that brooked no argument and said that the one called Shan would probably not like it if he got angry.

Shan shook the man's hand. He didn't exert enough pressure to crush Shan's hand or cause any pain, but he applied enough pressure to let the bard knew he could crush his hand if he felt the need. Shan wasn't sure what to make of that. The bard knew Telo was strong. Did he think Shan would fight him at some point? Shan did not relish that idea.

Shan raised his eyebrows at the man's offer, though. "I...no, that'll be great! I'd love to just go to sleep rather than argue about my tab. I mean, if you feel you have the funds, which I guess you do since you're offering. I'll lead the way," Shan said, heading out the door with Telo.

"And I'd hardly call you useless in a fight," Shan added with a grin. "Severely injured, drunk, and with a broken sword to boot, and you still dispatched all our attackers before passing out? I'd call that hero material. You wouldn't mind if I made a bit of a tale of it, would you? You probably guessed from my playing, but I'm a bard by trade." It was a lie, Shan knew, but the man more than deserved taking the credit for the one mugger Shan knocked out. It made a better story anyway.

Telo raised an eyebrow and thought, slightly confused.

All of them? I could have sworn I only got two...considering I ended up unconscious of course...well whatever

But quickly he decided to disregard the slight skew of the facts as he contemplated the younger mans proposal of writing some kind of song or epic tale about the actions of the night. It wouldn't bother him at all and he stated this fact, gesturing for Shan to continue as he spoke up.

"Well...of course I wouldn't mind, but it wasn't really that heroic...I was drunk after all and I didn't even realize entirely what I was doing. No matter, you may do as you wish, such a small thing is perfectly fine with me."

And then he smiled, nodding and wondering what the tale would be like as he continued to follow the bard towards the tavern, and there he would pay for a room for the young man and himself, sleeping well and waking early, leaving the young bard abed as he left to begin his new lot in life, for he had much to do to restart himself.
