Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Banagher looked at at the lake, he loved these areas, it relaxed him, made him feel reminiscent about his old home in the mountains, finding small lakes to dive into and natural springs... back before his brothers completely hated him. He shook his head, slapping his face, he was getting distracted from his training, even though he loved to cook more then anything, he enjoyed physical exercise and the martial arts he was taught helped him quite a bit, he was slow in the growth of both of his arts, but he loved them both when they came together as one.

He simply got into a side stance, holding one hand down towards his knee, palm up, while the other was raised up to his neck height, hovering to the side. His martial arts were about strong motions and palm strikes, unlike his brothers his movements and attacks weren't for perfect striking and knockouts, but to show his skill with defensive fighting, followed by a single powerful strike to the chest. He breathed slowly, envisioning an enemy, both of his elder brothers came into view in his mind's eye. He let the mental images charge him, intercepting their attacks by brushing them aside with circular motions, twisting his body to dodge strikes, using as little movements as possible. He could feel them moving to the side, he spun once, twisting his body, sending all of the power to his arms as he brought them both down, palms flat onto what he envisioned to be his brother's heads.

The images faded, he had failed, his brothers were faster then him, they would have used their claws to already slash into his sides, he wasn't good enough yet. He sighed and went back to a small fire he had built, an old black pot resting a few inches above the flames, being held up by a makeshift spit. He looked down into the concoction, it was thickening nicely, he had caught fish earlier and was using them to cook the food, he used the fish bones to help the flavor seep in while using several vegetables and herbs to keep it light and to absorb some of the flavor. He reached into a small satchel sitting nearby, pulling out a few bowls, he smiled, now it was only a matter of time until the food is ready.

Malaure had spent the day flying around the Mephian Falls she had gotten a bit wet and taken a nap near the shore. The nap was supposed to be a short one, but by the time she woke up she realized it was getting close to evening and it would take quite a while to get back to the city. To top it all off she was hungry and really didn’t want to fly on an empty stomach.

She was about to fly towards the city as there wasn’t many other choices, when she smelled something cooking. It took her a few minutes to figure out the direction and wandered along the edge of the lake towards the smell. A few minutes later she saw a man doing some martial arts practice. She suspected that it was probably his camp that held whatever was cooking. So she stopped to watch him for a bit, until he moved off towards a pot.

She thought he wasn’t too bad of a martial artist, but he could clean up his movements at some points. She decided not to mention this though as she moved over to him. “Hello there I don’t suppose you have enough food in that pot for another person. I lost track of time and it would be oh so sweet of you if you would spare a bit for me.”

She gave a disarming smile that often got guys to do things for her. Still there was always the chance that this guy just wasn’t interested in a dragon girl. If worse came to worse she could offer to pay for the meal. She hopped he would say she could join him as it would be nice to have a bit of company for dinner. It was fun talking to new people after all.

Banagher turned his head at the sound of a voice, he smiled as he saw he had company, it didn't matter that she was a beautiful woman, but anyone who wanted to eat, he would feed them, food was meant to be eaten by all, not to be selfishly hoarded. He stood up and offered her a seat near the fire, "I don't mind sharing my meal, it's every chef's pleasure to have their food be eaten, please sit, I will have our food ready in a moment." He took out a large ladle and a small bottle of spice, uncorking the bottle he put a small dash of it into the fish and vegetable stew, this would give it a spicy flavor to compliment the veggies and fish. He quickly used the ladle to scoop the bones out of the stew, using his free hand to quickly throw them into the water, finally he took out two wooden bowls, using the ladle to scoop the fish, veggies, and broth into the bowl, he was so used to it that he could easily make it evenly spread out, two parts broth, one part fish, one part veggies.

He handed her a bowl and dug out two spoons from his bag, handing her one and preparing to eat his own. He looked at her and smiled, "I'm Banagher, as I said I'm a chef by trade, my I have the pleasure of knowing your name miss?" He waited for her to answer before eating, he savored the taste of the broth, fish, and veggies all coming together, if he had a real kitchen and supplies at hand he had no doubt this food would be even more amazing. He finished his first bowl and got seconds, turning to her once more, "Please help yourself, I have plenty. Oh, yes, I want to know what you think of my food, I hope it's okay, I only had some fish, some leftover spices, and some veggies I had carrying around in my bag. I know it's not up to a master's level, but I'm pretty proud of my skills, please, tell me what you think of my spicy fish stew." He ate slowly from his second bowl, waiting for his dinner guest to speak.

Malaure sat down happily with the man’s kind invitation. Thinking to herself, ‘What luck! Not only do I find someone willing to share his food he is a cook too. I wonder how good he is. Well guess I will find out.’

She then gratefully accepted the bowl of stew offer her. “Thanks for the meal then and my name is Malaure.”

She worked slowly at her food and was only half way done with her bowl when Banagher had finished his first. The food was quite good, but she apparently didn’t have as big a stomach as this man. Then again there were few men who didn’t have a big appetite. She listened to him as she finished off her first bowl and got herself another scoop. She answered him while waiting for it to cool a bit.

“Well thank you again for being so generous with your food. It is quite tasty. Then again I am not exactly the sort to eat at fancy restaurants too often, so can’t really say how it compares to a master chef’s. Still I can at least say this is certainly better than most of places I have eaten at. So what are you doing down by this lake? I didn’t expect to see a talented chef just wandering around outside a city that often.”

She pondered him as she worked away on her next portion of stew. It was quite filling and probably this one would fill her to bursting. Normally she wasn’t a big eater and wouldn’t eat even this much, but then again it was really good stew. She even started considering on if she should try hiring this guy next time she went out on a sea voyage. A good chef could be a treasure out on the waves.

Banagher smiled, "I didn't expect a real food review like I had in Cascadia, I just like hearing people say they had a good meal, food belongs to everybody regardless of who or what they are. As for why I'm in the forest I just left Cascadia yesterday and I decided to stop here to train, fish, and look for edible plants. I'm trying to become good at fighting to protect my customers if anyone tries to start anything or cause a huge disturbance, I need to be strong, quick, and smart to cook and learn martial arts. Though I'm not a master of either practice... once I become a master chef I'm going to open my own restaurant in Cascadia, delicious and exotic foods for low prices... oh sorry, I tend to ramble a bit when I talk about cooking. Like a drunk with a large mug of ale, I just keep on going and going sometimes." He chuckled a bit before finishing off his bowl, putting it to the side as he took out a canteen, drinking from it before offering some to Malaure.

He looked at her, "So why are you here exactly, not many people come around here from what I can see, the woods aren't disturbed, no signs of garbage or burn marks from fires." He slowly takes out a few pieces of bread, he had fried them in Cascadia and sprinkled sugar and cinnamon over them. He took out a plate, placing a few pieces on it and putting it beside Malaure, "Try my bread, it'll cleanse the taste of the food from your mouth and give you a nice sweet aftertaste." He ate his own, slowly enjoying the bread, his favorite foods were all kinds of bread, he loved bread. His body shivered from the taste, it was his best batch yet.

Malaure found it curious that this guy had such odd interests. She had never really met a martial artist who wanted to be cook. Still he seemed to have a strong desire to make his dream come true and that was something she could admire. She herself rarely had such a focus in life. It was mostly just jumping from one thing to the next seeing what adventures life would surprise her with.

Finishing her stew she looked interested at the bread. She had seen cinnamon before, but she hadn’t ever had it on bread before. She took a piece and tasted it before answering. It tasted pretty good.

Smiling she said, “Hmm… don’t know what you mean by cleanse the taste of your food, but this is a pretty nice desert. As to why I am here well to put it simply I like excitement and I was diving around with the waterfall over there from Cascadia. I then decided to take a short nap and well I woke up and smelled your cooking. This then brings me here.”

She finished off her piece of bread enjoying the sweet taste it left in her mouth. She noted that he seemed to really enjoy bread. She couldn’t really understand that as she preferred meats to most other food types. She took another slice from the plate he had given her. Before she bit into it she decided to ask another question.

“So you say you’re a martial artist? That is sort of interesting I am one too. My mom trained me a lot when I was younger. Most people said I was pretty good at it too. So what sort of style do you practice?”

He looked into the fire for a moment, trying to remember the name of his style, the elders called it 'Wing Chun' if he remembered correctly. He turned to Malaure, "I believe it is called Wing Chun, it focuses on standing firm but being flexible, along with blocking or redirecting attacks. At least that's my main fighting style, I learned some Piguaquan from my grandfather for my palm strikes. In fact my entire family comes from a long line of martial artists... my half brothers had strong martial artist fathers who died in battle, even my father is a strong martial artist, but me, I'm a bit of a black sheep in a family of wolves, if I would have stayed there... I wouldn't have survived." It was simply the truth, his brothers would have killed him for being weak, since their monastery wanted only the strong to survive, even though he was stronger then his brothers, they were shorter and faster and could entire their hybrid states much easier then he could.

He stood up and walked a bit away where he was once practicing, "I will give you a demonstration of Wing Chun." He simply put one foot forward and kept in an empty stance, his arms not moving to defend or attack. He envisioned an enemy and moved accordingly, his hands brushing away incoming attacks, his movements quick and precise as he slowly went into striking between attacks, using his finger tips to thrust into where the soft parts of an enemy's body roughly his size would be. He went into striking with his fists, even using his feet to act like he was blocking kicks, using his shins to protect himself. Finally it ended with a long string of punches, parries, and elbow strikes, if the complete attack would have hit an enemy there would need to be a healer nearby... or else his target would have bled to death from internal injuries.

He walked back over to the fire, sitting down, a fine sweat collecting on his skin, his headband slightly damp, "That was Wing Chun without my Piguaquan. What style do you use Malaure?" He was curious what she used, her slender body would be perfect for Wing Chun... since it was originally created for women to defend themselves, that was one of the reasons why his brothers disrespected him, he 'fights like a woman.' He smirked, he had beaten them with his Wing Chun before he left, no doubt they would have left by now and were searching for him to beat him and prove they were the better martial artists. Until then he would simply wait for them and meet as many people as possible.

Malaure watched with interest as Banagher demonstrated his martial arts style. It was an interesting one and was probably worth studying for a bit to add to her own collection of moves. When he asked her what her style was she thought about it for a bit. While she thought her hand came up tapping her chin. “Very interesting style Banagher.

As for me ...Well I suppose my original style is Lilran. That is elvish for moon dance. My uncle was my master for my training days and he knew that style best. I suppose it is focused on flowing with your opponent’s movement and throwing their strength against them.

My dad also left me a scroll on dragon arts. So I also practiced that a lot on my own. That one was more focused on how to use my natural abilities in combat.

After that well I sort of just added things as I traveled in my adventures. Still if you want I can show you a bit of my skill. Not going to be much as I really can’t do the fancy things until I digest a bit more.”

If he indicated he did she would get up falling into a simple front stance. She then slowly moved in from one stance to the next her arms moving in tight sweeping motions as if redirecting blows from different angles. Suddenly she would flow into a double kick hitting both low and high in rapid succession. The kicks were placed were a knee or head would be. She then shifted into a back roll as if avoiding a counter attack, but in the middle of the roll sprang back forward using her hands and bringing down her claws in what would have been a crushing strike, that clearly could easily tear flesh from bone. The entire time all her movements almost seemed like she was a flowing river, just moving from one to the next without much thought or effort.

After she finished she looked at Banagher, “So what do you think?” She looked at him with curiosity waiting for his response. She liked to hear compliments and she definitely expected to hear one.

Banagher listened to her explain the several martial arts she had learned, he had never heard of any of them, though in his travels he was much more interested in cooking. He watched her perform a short kata like he did, he broke out into a sweat, he could see her movements, but they were sharper then his own, maybe even stronger. He clapped slowly, speaking only after a few moments of silence, "It was magnificent, while your style isn't complex it's sharp like a sword and as fast as an arrow, if anything I would hate to fight you at my current level... but something tells me you're a lot stronger then I can comprehend at the moment, now it feels like I'm a fish looking up at a bear. Allow me to show you one more secret." He went back to the area he had practiced, shifting forms to his hybrid form, growing a bit over seven feet tall, his blond hair turning brown as brown fur lines his body, his noise elongated slightly while his ears rounded off, sharp fangs appeared in his mouth as his hands gained fur and short blunt claws.

He got into a different stance, his front leg forward, his hands open as he started a second kata. He leaped forward from a standing position, moving much farther then most people would think, a palm thrusting out into a tree, he felt it reverberate as leaves fell from it, his palms striking out and closing around leaves. His hands were just a brown blur as they thrust out, clenching around leaves as they fell. He smiled as he dropped the wad of leaves, he walked back over, returning to his original form. He smiled as he sat down, "I'm a little bit more then your average chef or martial artist... I'm a were-bear. The style I just used was a variation of sumo wrestling from the far east, I used arm movements of Piguaquan, thrusting arms from sumo wrestling, and my movements were taken from Wing Chun and Bajiquan." He had only learned the bare basics of bajiquan, using the leaping strike, crushing mountain strike, and their movements to get around the battlefield, he might not be particularly strong or fast in comparison to his brothers, but he was good enough. He started through his pack, looking for anything to snack, he was hungry again.

Malaure was surprised to say the least as the cook turned himself into a bear. After a few seconds of looking at him she burst out in a fit of giggles. She didn't mean to be mean, but this large bear finding her own tiny self to be stronger than him was funny. It may be true in some ways, but she couldn't help finding it funny. Talking while she giggled,

“Sorry don’t mean to be rude, but a big strong bear thinks I am stronger than him. You certainly are scary in that form, but I think I like the your other self better. You certainly look cuter in that form anyways. Plus it must be hard to cook as a bear too.”

She stopped giggling after a little bit and tried to be a bit more serious, but couldn’t help, but have a silly grin. “Anyways it seems you have some interesting moves there. Almost makes me want to learn a few of those. Who knows maybe I can teach you a few things too. That will probably have to wait until tomorrow.

Plus I certainly would look forward to having more of your food if we stayed around for a bit tomorrow. What do you think?”

OOC: sorry if the post is a bit short.

Banagher smirked, he had good eyes and a good sense of taste which he found he could apply to people, he thought of himself as a good three course meal, nothing fancy and rather plain foods, but from looking at Malaure and her little show, he thought of her as a ten course meal, using exotic foods to make the spread, he still had a ways to go before fighting his own brothers, and even longer before even thinking about fighting Malaure. He smiled at the thought of making food for them again and readily gave his answer, "Alright, I'm fine with that, I'll cook our meals and we can examine each others styles." He quickly picked up the empty pot, taking it over to the lake, dumping out what little remained, he washed it out quickly, doing his best with what little tools he had.

He walked back over and put it down upside down, allowing the water that was left inside to flow out into the grass, he would leave it to dry overnight as such, he sat down himself, ready to talk, "So Malaure, have you heard of a monastery in the mountains made specifically for were-beasts, they teach brutal fighting styles and how to use your natural weapons and physique for the beast possible fighting." He had learned that personally when he grew up there, he learned what they taught him but took up cooking also, often times skipping his lessons to cook for his mother and grandfather, he much preferred the art of life over the art of death.

Malaure was quite happy with Banagher’s response. It would be fun working with this guy the next day or so. She watched him as he emptied the pot and cleaned it out. It was sort of interesting watching him work. She had no talent at cooking herself. Mostly she lived on dried and preserved foods for traveling and maybe a fish roasted on a stick, but nothing more complex.

Her thoughts on this were interrupted as Banagher walked back asking her a question. She shook her head as she answered, “Nope never heard of it. Then again I have spent a lot of time looking for my half-brother who is supposed to own a monastery somewhere and I can’t even find a trace of it. So what hope would I have of hearing about a monastery I am not even looking for.” She laughed a little, “I am guess you came from that monastery? Why do you ask?

She was mildly interested on why he was bringing up his monastery. It certainly sounded like an interesting place. Maybe if they talked a bit she might hear a clue about the location of her half-brother. She would like to meet him at some point. If only she could stop getting distracted by adventures and other random exciting things. Oh well that was life.

Banagher nodded, "Half-brother... hmmm personally I haven't heard of many monasteries besides the ones my Grandfather knew about. So if it was a recently made monastery I doubt I know about it, I only know of extremely old ones. Ones that few people have seen and lived to tell the tale... well my grandpa was one of them, he was very adventurous when he was younger, fighting and defeating other martial art styles. He's pretty much the opposite of me when it comes to skills, same with my entire family except for my mother really. I was kicked out of my monastery for skipping lessons to learn how to cook, they had tried year long exiles, starvation, and lots of other things. Though eventually they gave up, sent me away, and now I wait for the time my brothers try to hunt me down and kill me." He had thought about that long and hard, also he didn't really mind if people knew that his brothers wanted to kill him, he was a disgrace to his family, even his father said so, but only his mother's and grandfather's words mattered to him.

He yawned as he felt the chill of the night go up his spine, it was already getting late. He slowly laid down by the fire, feeling the warmth against his face, it would keep him warm for the night. He looked up to Malaure, "Well it's getting late, we should sleep for tonight, we can continue talking in the morning." In the morning he already had plenty of ideas for food, he had noticed some plants nearby, the berries from them would be delicious. He yawned again before slowly fading into sweet sweet slumber.

Malaure found Banagher’s tale of his home to be very sad. A family focused on nothing, but fighting and letting no room for other skills. Her own mother may have been over protective, but she had hardly been restrictive. She had been allowed to practice all sorts of things and she couldn’t imagine not being allowed to have fun. Still it seemed he was happy enough with his own life at the moment. As long as his brothers didn’t come to kill him in the next few days it wouldn’t be a big problem.

She shrugged her shoulders a bit, “Wasn’t really expecting you to know of my brother’s monastery. Honestly I don’t even know if it is old or new. Still not sure I like the sound of your family monastery. People should have fun with their lives.”

She then heard him yawn and say his goodnights.

“Well goodnight then. Hope you have pleasant dreams.” After say this she spent a few moments getting ready for bed. Soon she had fallen asleep curled up on her side, with her tail wrapping around herself a bit.

She got up the next morning feeling refreshed and got up stretching out her muscles. She had gotten well after dawn, but it was still several hours before noon too. For a moment she forgot that she had slept with another person and freely stretching she showed off a bit more than she meant to. She was fully clothed, so it didn’t really matter, but it was still a bit embarrassing for a second or two.

Continuing her morning stretch she gave Bahanger her impish smile and said, “Good morning! Did you sleep well?”

OOC: sorry if this took a bit.

Banagher woke up at the crack of dawn, sitting up he quickly walked looked over to Malaure, she was still fast asleep. He grinned as he went to work, shifting into his hybrid form, he walked off, looking for a bird's nest or some kind of animal. He had searched for only an hour before finding a good tree, he used his blunt claws to dig into it and help him climb, he was about halfway up when a bird dived at him, it was a rather fat looking pheasant, he waited until it almost hit him before flinging his arm up, swatting it in the side of the head, he heard a cracking sound as the body broke beneath his strength, he watched it fall before continuing his climb. He found the nest a ways up, picking it up with one hand as he slowly made his way downward, almost slipping a few times before arriving safely on the ground.

He made his way back to camp with the bird and eggs in hand, dropping them off at the campsite before going to gather more wood. After another hour of finding tinder and branches long enough to be broken into small logs, he piled them up and lit them. Placing the rocks under his metal sheet to allow the flames to start heating it. He looked at the sun and nodded, he walked towards the lake, shedding his clothing as he became a full bear, wading into the water to catch fish. It didn't take long to catch two fishes, that was all he needed for breakfast. Walking out of the water he shook his fur as dry as possible, shifting into his wear form he put on his pants but left his shirt off, not wanting it to get wet. His body was still rather wet from the dip, so he carried the fish and his shirt back to the camp, placing the shirt near his pack before preparing the meals.

Just as he was finishing the preparing the fish he heard Malaure yawn, when she asked if he slept well he smiled, "Just fine, had a nice dream of cooking a ten course meal in a place all my own. How about you Malaure, how did you sleep?" He would listen to her as he cooked, putting the fish fillets on the hot metal, same with the strips of chicken, he kept them on the metal sheet at the same time, keeping an even space away so the juices wouldn't mix. He then took out the four eggs he had found with the nest, cracking them open and putting them on the metal sheet to cook, sprinkling some herbs on the eggs before they could cook as he took out some spices for the chicken and fish, now all they needed to do was wait.
