| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Rin had witnessed quite a few strange sights since her creation in Imythess. She had seen a man mad with power summon creatures out of legend and a massive labyrinth raised in the desert; she had witnessed the awakening of an ancient ice dragon and explored the wonders of yeti society. Yet every time she thought she was beyond being shocked at the actions of mortals something new surprised her. When Banagher dropped to his knees and began to plea with the ghost for assistance her jaw gaped open. The girl was sure that the chef had completely lost his mind and would soon be mauled to death by the phantom. Before she could leap forward to continue attacking the engorged canine in order to save her new friend. Rin knew that she would be far too late; the dog was much closer to the chef than she was. Yet she was soon surprised again when it peacefully met Banagher's gaze, restraining itself from ripping the chef's head from his shoulders. The girl watched as it lumbered back towards the grave, shrinking in size as it progressed until it was just a small dog with a squashed face. Apparently all that was required to get on the dog's good side was to show it kindness and respect its deceased master. However, that did not necessarily mean that the girl trusted the phantasm. She followed the ghost dog warily, still clutching the holy blade in one hand. When she had first come into existence the girl had been incredibly trusting, but months of traveling and interacting with other beings had taught her to always keep her guard up. When the dog reached a small, wrinkled tree it stopped and began to bark playfully at them. It was clear that the animal wanted them to reach into a small indentation in the trunk. Rin stepped forward, kneeling down on the grass in front of the plant. "I can do this." With one eye still trained on the ghost she reached into the burrow, fingers digging through mud and leaves as she thrust her hand deep beneath the earth. She shoved her arm into the hole all the way up to her shoulder, straining to reach inside and find whatever the dog was trying to share with them. After a few moments of digging around Rin's fingers came into contact with something that was clearly foreign to the burrow. She gripped the material tightly, smiling. "I found it!" It felt like she was holding some sort of leather bag, but the girl could not be sure. With a grunt of exertion she pulled her arm back out of the tree's roots, her skin caked in thick, viscous mud from shoulder to wrist. She held a small bag clutched in her fist, and the girl's heart sank. It was clearly too small to contain one of the pages of the Grand Grimoire. There was a metallic clinking as she set it on the grass, glancing at the dog. It barked encouragingly and nipped at the pouch, its ghostly teeth passing through the fabric without moving it. Rin nodded and pulled open the drawstring, dumping the contents out on the grass. A shower of ancient coins rolled across the ground, each of them inscribed with the likeness of a long-forgotten ruler. An amulet bounced out of the bag as well, a cracked ruby set into the intricate jewelry. A signet ring tumbled out as well, the crest on its surface eroded into obscurity. Rin frown and turned the bag inside out, but there was nothing else inside the pouch. "It's not here... Is there anything else?" She directed this statement at the dog, a small hint of desperation in her tone. Surely the dog's augmented strength and power had been because of the Grimoire's power? |

Banagher watched Rin closely, ready to pull her out if something tried to latch onto her, though his fears disappeared when she pulled out an old leather sack. He looked as she dumped out the contents, an old signet ring, old coins, and an amulet, the dog was guarding the last few treasures his master had with him... meaning something had dug it up from the grave. Banagher took the signet ring and amulet into his hands, the small dog hopping around Banagher, yipping and running back to the grave, bouncing around it like a puppy with a new chew toy. Banagher walked over and shifted forms, using his blunt clawed hands to dig into the grave, it wasn't a deep one either, it was only five minutes of constant dirt slinging that he found a small wooden casket, smashed opened and filled with dirt. He dug a bit into it, the dog licking it's chops and bouncing around, excited beyond reason. Banagher found something as he was digging... an old page from a book, how did that get in there...? He put it aside and kept on digging, placing the ring and amulet into the grave before filling it back up. The dog yipping and running around the grave in circles, fading away into the afterlife. Banagher stood up and dusted off his pants, holding the crumpled up page in his hand, "Well that's weird... someone broke into the coffin, took a few coins and prized trinkets, and then left this page in there... otherwise this thing would be full of holes." He slowly flattened out the paper, taking a gander at what was written upon it. |

The construct watched rather dejected as Banagher picked up the treasures and walked over to the gravesite, accompanied by the incorporeal canine. The girl did not follow immediately, instead closing her eyes and focusing on the core of her being, the fraction of her essence that belonged solely to the Grand Grimoire. She let is aura infuse her body, dowsing for the location of the nearest page. However, her scrying proved almost entirely useless. Rin could tell that the lost page was close, but she could not even guess its direction or actual distance from her location. The girl was too close to its power to be able to sense it in such a manner. With a heavy sigh she opened her eyes and stomped into the underbrush, searching for the trident she had thrown at the dog when it had been the size of a cabin and decidedly less friendly. The chef seemed to be digging into the soil above the grave in order to return the ancient money and eroded jewelery to its proper owner, a task which held no interest for the girl. She found the triple-pronged polearm stuck into the trunk of a thick oak, sap oozing around the gashes in the bark. She placed one foot on the wood and roughly ripped the weapon out of the plant before banishing it, the weapon disappearing with a whoosh as the space it was occupied was quickly replaced by air. Rin did the same with the humming shortsword. They no longer seemed to be in danger of being mauled by the phantom, and she could always summon the weapon once more if she needed it. Right before she began to head back to the graveside the girl tensed, glancing up suddenly. There had been a spike in the Grimoire's presence, as if its pages had been shifted or used in some manner. Rin's breathing slowed and she stood completely still as she tried to determine the source of the surge in energy and where it was emanating from. When she felt the power intensify again the girl wasted no time, dashing into the underbrush in a rustle of leaves. Within moments she had returned to the clearing, where the chef appeared to be spreading a sheet of parchment across the ground and examining it. Her eyes lit up, and her heart rose at the sight. What Banagher held was undeniably one of the pages of the Grand Grimoire. It was a foot wide and half that long again in height, and even despite its buried and crumpled state the page was unmarred and unwrinkled. In fact, it looked as if it had just been printed, the surface of the parchment glowing softly. The words on the page were written in a sloping, spidery script that was accompanied by complex diagrams and symbols. Every so often the words would begin to shimmer and squiggle of their own accord, the letters rearranging themselves on the page in order to form new words in a long-forgotten language. Rin squealed and hopped over to the chef, beaming so widely it looked like her cheeks would split open. "You found it Banagher! That's exactly what I have been looking for!" She dropped to her knees next to the bear-human hybrid, although she did not immediately snatch up the page. The cook seemed interested in its contents and she did not want to interrupt him. After all, he had found the page for her! |

Banagher scratched his head as he tried to think about the odd page and it's mystic writings, he had seen something like this before... but where was the question. He became lost in thought until he heard Rin said that the page was what she was looking for, odd, a magical artifact being a single page and not an entire book. Well he smiled and held it up to the sun, his eyes flashing recognition as he remembered where he saw a page exactly like this one, well at least one with the same crazy writing. He turned to Rin and handed the page to her before speaking, "I've got some good news and bad news. The good news is I know where another page like this one is, the bad news is it's hidden deep within the mountains. Outsiders will never be able to reach it... and to find those who know of the area you would have to go to their monastery, which is also hidden. So far few beings leave the monastery for good... but I was exiled from it... twice. This is my second exile, and I can lead you to the monastery, though I doubt we'll be welcomed with open arms, we may also have to pass a few feats of strength and endurance for them to even let us walk past the monastery." Banagher stretched his arms, feeling the pain coursing through them, fighting giant ghost dogs would be the last thing on his to-do list next time. He took a few steps towards the north before turning back to Rin, "So Rin, shall we go get that page together? While we travel I can cook for us, we can stop at villages to replenish my cooking supplies and then we can hit the trail to the mountains... and the hidden monastery for Were-beasts." He smiled as he waited for his new little friend to follow, he had a feeling whether or not he went there she would go charging ahead... at least this way he could save his little friend's life... for when they get to the monastery he knew the horrors that would be visited upon him, horrors he would spare his friend from feeling. |

Rin waited until it looked like Banagher was done examining the page before she picked it up, clutching it tightly. As her skin came into contact with the artifact she felt a sensation of utter ecstasy spread through her entire being, the satisfaction of a job well done. These pages were the entire reason for her existence; there was no wine so sweet or so potent as the discovery of one of the Grimoire's pages. The girl's face was fixed in a wide smile as she rolled the parchment into a tight cylinder, promising herself that she would investigate the contents of the page later. Although the mysterious and constantly rearranging scripts would stupefy even the most astute scholars, as a construct of the Grand Grimoire Rin possessed a perfect understanding of any written language. So long as the words were written somewhere within the book's infinite pages she could decipher it herself, a trait that had come in useful on several occasions. The girl had learned a multitude of facts from the pages, such as the identities and fighting styles of the heroes and deities throughout legend whose weapons she borrowed. The construct also possessed an eidetic memory that allowed her to flawlessly recollect any information she had absorbed from the pages, making her a veritable walking encyclopedia. When the chef mentioned that he had seen something similar before the girl perked up, staring at him with her vivid blue eyes. Although Rin had seen other so-called 'grimoires' in her travels across Imythess, none of them had possess glowing pages with its words constantly in motion except for the tome that she served. If Banagher had seen something similar in the past, there was a good chance that it was another fragment of the Grand Grimoire. She clapped her hands together happily, beaming at the were-bear. "I would love for you to show me the page! It would be faster than wandering in search of it!" Although she had just traveled through the mountains, Rin was aware that she could not have possibly ecxplored every nook and cranny hidden in the peaks. She had discovered a page there already, but there were some circumstances in which her ability to scry for the power of the Grimoire was significantly weaker. Perhaps this fragment that Banagher had seen was hidden in such a manner. Rin stretched languidly, reaching up towards the sky with her hands interlocked. It would be nice to travel with someone once more. Over the course of her wanderings, there had been several individuals who helped her search for multiple pages. Ezekial had traveled with the girl all the way from the Hills of Mist to Taras, and Tandorous had escorted her across a wide portion of the Istan Desert to the hidden desert. Still, it had been months since she had a companion for any length of time, and Banagher seemed like a pleasant enough individual. Plus, she would probably eat better than she had in her entire life while sharing the chef's campfire. "If you want, I can hunt for you too, or look for ingredients!" Rin was not entirely sure what plants or berries were edible, but she was sure that the cook could teach her enough about the wilderness to avoid poisoning them both. The girl giggled and twirled once, lowering her hands to her sides. She wasn't exactly sure what Banagher meant by were-beasts, but they sounded interesting. "Let's go!" |
