Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Banagher looked down at the lake, he was currently in his full bear form, his clothes and items packed into a hollow log nearby. It had been a long time since he became a bear, it was refreshing, reconnecting with the wild, becoming one with nature, it also didn't hurt that the enhanced senses helped him forage for food and fish. He waded into the water, standing still for nearly half an hour, looking down as the fish swam by, he waited until he saw a sufficiently fat fish, quickly using his paw to swat it out of the water, the fish landing behind the log he had put his items in, keeping the fish from flopping back into the water.

He did so again, and again, his paw easily swiping fish from the water and onto dry land, he lumbered out of the water, slowly turning into his hybrid form, brown fur still covering his entire body, but now he was walking on his hind legs, his front paws elongating and becoming much more human. His face turned half human, his nose elongated slightly like a bear's while his ears slowly became pointed. He walked over to the log and reached inside of it, retrieving his clothes. He quickly donned his garments, shifting back into a much more human status, his legs and arms shrinking slightly, his clothes, once tight on his hybrid form, now became loose and baggy. His brown hair disappearing, though the hair on his head stood upwards, slightly spiked as he put on his bandanna. His ears were extremely long and pointed, even though he had no elven blood in his veins to his knowledge, but he did think his mother have had an ancestor with elven blood, even her ears with slightly tapered.

He shook his head, banishing the thoughts from his mind, he needed to focus on the task at hand. He pulled out a knife and started to whistle, gutting the fish, descaling it, doing all he needed to do to make some fillets, he wanted to make some new dishes he was itching to try out. He reached back into the log, taking out a satchel, opening it up to reveal spices and a large flat stone. He stuck the tip of the knife into the side of the log, holding it steady as he raised his hand, slamming the flat of it against the hollowed trunk, shattering a good part of it under his thick calloused palm. He brought the wood pieces together, gathering branches and twigs to help build the fire, with a few waves of his hand, he prepared a spell, simply muttering the word, "Boom." A spark flying from his hand, landing on the wood pile, a flame quickly growing.

Banagher smiled as he placed took out two more round stones from his satchel, placing them on the ground around the fire, then putting the hot plate on the stones, the flames of the fire licking the bottom of the stones hungrily. He put two of the fillets on it, letting it cook there as he went to work digging out some old food from his pack, taking a small baggie of rice, he emptied it into a small wooden bowl he had in his pocket. He would need seaweed to... he started to dig through his satchels, digging through them for the right ingredient, his mind so far into a cooking fervor that he would not notice anyone sneaking up on him, or probably even approaching him.

Her circuitous path of Imythess had finally brought her back to the Norwood Forest. Rinrae Dromigg was still amazed by the size and scope of the woodlands that covered most of the central region of Imythess. Its environments ranged from swamps and marches to heavy forest and thick underbrush. She had never actually been in this area of the woods before; it had rolling hills and had a network of tall trees with that trailed feather-like tendrils of leaves. The girl stopped for a moment, brushing a strand of golden blond hair out of her features. As an artificial construct of the Grand Grimoire, Rin had been specifically designed to be able to complete her task. She was much stronger and faster than she appeared, with amazing reflexes and significant battle prowess. Furthermore, she had been constructed with sculpted features and a slim form that made her beautiful by almost any society's definition. Her eyes were as clear and as bright as the sky above, and a small, inquisitive smile almost always curled up at the corners of her lips. She was dressed simply in a white cotton sundress, with silvery ribbons wrapped around her forearms and shins. A well-worn leather satchel was looped over her pack, its pouch stuffed full with clothes, knick-knacks, and other items she had accumulated through her journey. Altogether she did not seem to be a being created solely to track down and recover lost magical artifacts, but that was part of the reason she had been designed in such a fashion.

Her affinity with the Grimoire also gave the girl the ability to sense its power throughout the realm of Imythess. The sentient tome's pages had been lost in a cataclysmic event, and she was the sole individual who could effectively hunt them down across the land. She could scry for their location easily, following their unique presence across the land. She had already collected several pages of the book, which were currently hidden underneath the ribbons on her arms and legs. Now she was hunting another page through the tangled paths of the Norwood Forest, and it was close. She was quite glad for the temperate climate; Rin had spent several weeks in the frozen northern reaches of Imythess, and she was much more comfortable in this environment where it wasn't necessary to wear thick clothes and heavy boots.

The girl continued down the hill, rounding the corner to see a small lake in front of her. The water was clear and a deep blue in color, completely hidden from the sun above by a wide canopy of interwoven boughs. She giggled at the sight, eyes drinking in the lush environment. She was so transfixed with the sight that she did not immediately notice the figure on the edge of the lake starting a fire. The whoosh of flames drew her attention to the strange individual. He had bright golden hair that stuck up from his head in an unusual way, and wore clothes like none she had seen before. He was currently dancing around the flames, setting up a series of rocks and a metal pan in order to cook over the warmth. She edged closer, eyes darting from the odd man to the pile of fish on the ground nearby. Rin could feel her stomach ties itself into knots at the sight; she did not technically require sustenance, but it could be incredibly unpleasant to go without. She had only eaten a few scant handfuls of berries in the last day, and the sight of that mountain of fish was almost enough to make her drool.

"Hello there Mister!" Rin's voice was bright and cheerful, as was her face as she skipped over to the fire. She drew to a halt several feet away from the man, although her expression did not seem suspicious in the least. She had learned that not every mortal on Imythess could be trusted immediately, and if this woodlands chef proved dangerous she would need room in order to draw her weapon from the satchel. "Would you mind sharing your catch? I have some money to offer for a fish..." Although she was speaking to the stranger, her eyes were affixed to the assortment of spices in his bag, breathing in their strong flavor. Something on the man's person reeked of honey as well, although she could not identify what.

Banagher didn't hear her at first, but he heard a small gurgling sound... the sound of an empty stomach, he turned his head to the girl and smiled, "Go ahead and sit down, I'll share some fish with you. I'm a chef by trade, I don't cook for money unless I have to, which unfortunately is whenever I go into town, so sit back and relax, I'll cook us a delicious meal. Oh, right, I'm Banagher." He kept on working, quickly adding spices to the cooking fillets, taking out his abnormally thin and wide knife, using it like a spatula to flip the fillet, cutting them into smaller pieces to cook faster. He took up the other fish, descaling and gutting them in a few quick strokes. He reached into his satchel, digging out a small wrapped package, he unrolled it to find the seaweed he was looking for, perfect.

He rolled the seaweed around the rice, using his knife to cut small circles from the fillets, placing them on top of the little rolls, sushi was made. He dug out another plate from his satchel, putting half of the sushi he made on it, sliding it over to the young blond girl. He himself ate the sushi, enjoying the odd sensation, the raw fish gave it a slimy texture, but the pre-seasoned rice and the dried seaweed made it slightly crunchy and spicy, easily covering up a briny taste the fish might have. He quickly tossed the fish bits he made onto the same plate, steam wafting from them, a smell of a plethora of spices flowing from it. He breathed deeply the aroma of his meal, taking some of it for himself, he was an artist when it came to food.

Next he digs out some berries, using the last bit of plain rice he has to make a few rice balls, using the last bit of seaweed to seal it up. His rice balls were always sweet from the fruity filling, but light from the rice, his hands were a blur as he made several of them, placing them down in the bowl he had used for the rice. He smiled at the young girl, "Dig in."

Rin was slightly surprised when he turned down her money; she had learned rather early on in her existence that most mortals expected to be reimbursed for their services. She rarely had a problem with this. Although she did not outright steal from others, the girl had been created without a moral compunction against thievery. She had also gotten in the habit of looting the bodies of the men and women who got in between her and the pages of the Grimoire, which often resulted in their untimely demise. When the pages of the book were concerned, Rin was utterly ruthless, almost like a machine in her ferocity and determination. "Oh, thank you so much Mr. Banagher! My name is Rinrae, but you should call me Rin!" She smiled brightly at the chef, although he had already returned his attention to the dishes he was preparing. She was not offended by his inattention. Instead, she relished the opportunity to watch a master chef at work.

The construct watched him with rapt attention as he cooked. She had never actually tried to cook herself because her search for the Grimoire usually left her too busy. It had not programmed her with any desire to or knowledge about the culinary arts, but it could not stop her from being curious. Banagher's movements were smooth and practiced, and it was clear that he was very experienced with cooking this particular dish. He prepared fillets of pale fish meat quickly before rolling them between layers of some plant material and rice. This roll was then cut into bite-sized morsels, which he parceled out and then slid to her on a plate. Rin giggled and opened her mouth to thank the chef, her eyes shining, but he was not done yet. A handful of berries was hidden within some tight rolls of rice, which were sealed with more of the same plant. The Grimoire spoke directly to her mind, identifying the fod he had prepared.

Those are rice balls, Rinrae. And that plant is seaweed. The rolls are called sushi.

"Thank you for the meal!" Rin did not bother with utensils, picking up one of the piece of sushi with her fingers and popping it into her mouth. Flavor exploded across her tongue; the spices he had included melded perfectly with the fish's rich taste, all grounded through the seaweed and rice. She quickly snatched up another one of the small morsels, nibbling on it as she watched Benagher chew up one of the rice balls. Mimicking his technique, she carefully lifted the food to her mouth and bit into it so that the berry filling wouldn't squirt out. The rich juices dribbled into her mouth, giving the dish a sweet and satisfying taste. She quickly finished the rice ball as well, licking her fingers to get every last drop of the juice and beaming at the chef. "This is amazing Benagher! Where did you learn to cook like this?" The construct had observed his methods and watched him make every piece of the meal, but she doubted that she could recreate it. The chef might have made it look easy, but she could tell that it took years of training and practice to assemble a meal so quickly and so well.

Banagher chuckled, nobody had actually asked where he learned his cooking, the truth was there was no single place, he had wandered all over Chaon for several years to learn his recipes and hone his skills, well, it was best to be honest. He ate the last bit of his food before speaking, "I started learning about cooking in the monastery I was being raised at in the Gwilikith mountains. Once I was sent away from there into isolation I taught myself, learning what I could cook from the local fauna and flora. Once I came back from my isolation I was kicked out of the monastery and I proceeded to travel around the world and learned from many masters. You could say the world is my teacher and I will forever be it's student... I am a mere appetizer in comparison to my old masters who can only be described as a full ten course meal with dessert." He wasn't saying he was bad, he just wasn't as good as his masters, his masters could take horrible grade ingredients and make them amazing with a few techniques and tricks, which they refused to share with him, claiming it would drive them out of business... Banagher still wanted to know though.

He took up the final two fish, gutting and descalign them slowly, he spoke to Rin as he prepared them, "I hope you're up for the final meal, I'm going to make some fish stew, I have some vegetables in the stew pot in my satchel... in fact my satchel basically just holds my pot and I put everythin in the pot or in the side pockets in the satchel." He didn't work quickly, he needed patience with preparing the stew, hacking taking the fillets and putting them on the metal plate, which he grabbed at the corners, which were usually to hot for most people but thanks to his heavily calloused hands he found the burns didn't bother him as much. He fliped the stones over with his foot and put the plate on them, off the fire.

He went to the bones and walked over to the lake, washing the bones thoroughly, making sure they were clean, he needed the bones for the stew. Once they were clean he walked back, placing the bones on his empty plate, walking the pot back to the lake and filling it up, bringing it back and placing it onto the fire. He dumped the bones into the water, the bones would help help make the stew. He flipped over the fish with his broad and thin knife, letting it cook evenly, using the same knife to cut up vegetables from his satchel. Placing them in the pot. He put some spices on the fish that were cooking, cutting them up on the metal plate and flipping them into the pot, making small splashes. He then scraped the grease and juices from the cooking fish into a bowl and poured it into the stew. He smiled as he saw it thicken, now it was time to wait.

The construct watched him with wide eyes when he revealed that he was merely an apprentice in the culinary world. Rin stared down at her plate, still half-full of sushi rolls and rice balls. Was this truly only a paltry appetizer compared to a fully trained chef? That was a matter that would require further examination in the future; for now she just planned on njoying the meal that was available to her. The girl happily nibbled on another slice of sushi as the chef reached for the remaining fish, gutting and descaling them with a practiced ease. The girl polished off of her food as he bustled around the small campfire, adding ingredients to the kettle. Vegetables, spices and hunks of meat were tossed into the roiling water. The last rice roll disappeared as he added the final morsels to the stew. Banagher settled back, obviously intending to wait.

"I'm looking forward to your next course, Mr. Chef!" The girl hopped to her feet, setting the dish down and smiling brightly. Rin twirled around the campfire, humming in the back of her throat. The tune was dissonant and warbling, but the girl did not seem to notice how terribly lacking she was in musical talent. ]"While we're waiting, do you mind if I train for a bit? Zaki told me to practice every night!" The girl flashed a grin at Banagher and spun further away from the campfire, waltzing into a small grass clearing near the banks of the lake. She held both hands out in front of her, her forehead wrinkling as she focused on the air above her fingers. "Poseidon's Trident"

The very fabric of reality rippled as the girl focused, bending the fabric of the universe to her whim. The air rippled like it was a mirage before a sparkling weapon appeared in her hands. The shaft was as long as the girl was tall, with its surface carved in the shape of marine animals. The butt of the weapon ended in a spike, with the opposite end splitting into three prongs of equal length. Each of the prongs had a honed edge ending in a viciously sharp point. Rin twirled the weapon nimbly, the polearm whirring through the air so quickly it was just a metallic blur. Her face was calm and composed as she bowed to the empty air in front of her before adopting a ready stance and muttered to herself. "Sequence One..."

Rin began to jump and spin, lashing out with the trident as she flew through the air. Each slash and thrust was obviously tailored to give her complete control of the area nearest her body, a net of total protection that also allowed her to reduce her enemies to bleeding heaps of flesh. However, it was not her speed and strength that was the most amazing aspect of her display, but rather the lake's response. Every time the golden trident was jabbed towards the water its surface responded, ripples spreading out across the body of water. When she spun the polearm over her head the waves splashed against the banks of the lake like a living creature, as if they yearned to join the construct in her training sequence.

Banagher chuckled, his little dinner guest seemed to be just your average girl... with a poor singing voice. Though when she mentioned practicing, he wondered what the girl could mean... only to see the air warp around her as the weapon formed, a trident. He watched her movements, not missing a beat. He envisioned himself fighting her, all he could do was dodge the movements, he wasn't sure he could dodge them all... but he lost confidence when he saw the moving and stirring as she thrust her trident, she wasn't just a mere child... she was something much more threatening. He almost considered picking up his stuff and running away... but if she was going to kill him she would have done so a long time ago.

He let her practice for a while, keeping an eye on the fish stew, he nodded once the broth became a creamy white, taking out the two, now empty, bowls and a ladle. He poured some of the broth into one of them, sipping from it. The only word that could form in his head was perfection, just like his master from the north taught him, it's light and tastes of fish and vegetables. With a practiced hand he easily spooned out the two bowls, filling them near the brim with broth, fish, and chopped veggies. He put a spoon in Rin's bowl and turned to her, "Come and get it Rin, stew's done." He waited for her to come back over, giving her the bowl of steaming stew, he himself started eating and enjoying his meal, if he had a real kitchen and regular supplies he could have made something much better, but it was perfect for what he had in mind out in the wilderness.

Once finishing his first bowl he spooned himself out seconds, turning back to Rin, "Help yourself to seconds... and I hope you don't mind but I'm a bit curious. Why would a young lady, like yourself, be wandering in the woods alone and have the power to summon a trident. No offense but you just don't seem like the kind of person to go around fighting people." That much was true, he had met many women who were strong warriors, but few looked as small or as feeble as Rin... if she was strong he wondered if it was magical in nature... bah, thinking to much made him far to cautious. He continued eating his stew, waiting for Rin's answer.

By the time that Benagher called her to dinner Rin was in the middle of her third sequence. The girl did not even pause in her movements, continuing the attacks with the polearm as Zaki had instructed her. Only after she came to the natural stopping position of the training exercise did she come to a halt, holding the trident in a defensive position slanted across her torso. She breathed in deeply, shaking her head so her golden hair whipped through the air. "I'll be right there!" The girl wiped the sweat from her brow and thrust the three-pronged weapon back into the grass on the bank of the river. The pearl set into the golden weapon glimmered slightly, and the surface of the lake rippled for a moment. She smiled slightly and walked back towards the campfire, leaving the trident protruding from the ground.

She sat down next to the chef, gratefully accepting the steaming bowl from his hands. She spooned up a small amount of the warm broth, bringing the spoon to her lips and gently blowing on the food. After it seemed sufficiently cool she brought the spoon to her mouth, swallowing the soup. "This is great, Benagher! You are a truly wonderful chef!" The girl continued to eat spoonful after spoonful of the thick broth, eagerly consuming the meal. She knew this was probably the best she would eat for weeks, at least until she finally found the page squirreled away in the forest and traveled back out to the more civilized sections of Imythess.

Rin giggled when the chef posed his question, setting aside her bowl for a moment in order to reply. "It's fine! I have a very specific task on this world. I need to find... some magical artifacts." The construct hoped that the hiatus in her sentence wouldn't be noticed. She had used to tell most of the strangers she encountered more details about her quest, but she had quickly learned to be more circumspect about her goals. The pages of the Grand Grimoire possessed great power, and she had yet to meet a mortal that was completely free of any greed or corruption. One did not need to be an archmage in order to utilize the power of the tome; all that you required was a desire for change. The reality-warping power of the Grimoire would do the rest. "These artifacts are very dangerous... But I possess certain skills that make me well-suited for the tak. Plus I get to travel and meet lots of interesting people! Like you!"

The girl picked her bowl back up, spooning another mouthful of the delicious broth into her mouth. "There's an artifact near here, actually... But enough about me! Why are you here in the forst, Mr. Benagher?" The girl watched the chef with her bright blue eyes as she continued eating the soup.

Banagher smiled at the young girl, she was so young and already questing for magical artifacts... was it a family quest or she could possibly be part of some guild or organization... but his thoughts ended when she asked about him and why he was here. He chuckled as he thought of his answer, "No specific reason, I travel to learn about food so you could say this is just a stopping point for me to rest, cook, and talk to my new little friend." He finished off his bowl, dipping the ladle into the pot and filling the bowl to the brim, he ate still, he was a large man, even more so he was a were-bear and found himself eating just about the same amount as a bear did. He ate for a little while longer, finishing his stew and putting down his bowl.

He stood up and stretched, looking down at Rin, "Well if there's an artifact in the woods, let me help you find it, personally I've got no interest in magical artifacts but if it'll help my new little friend I'll do as much as I can." He felt his strength returning as he started to pick up what was left, bringing it to the lake to clean out and clean off his bowls and utensils. Before coming back for the stew he gave Rin ample time for seconds before taking the remaining items to wash, putting it all in the freshly cleaned pot and depositing it into the satchel. He slung it across his back and smiled, "If you're looking for special artifacts I believe I saw something in the forest about an hour's walk east. It's an old gravestone, I think it's the grave of a fallen hero, but it seems that bandits often desecrate it by throwing stuff on it. Though lately I've heard of whoever desecrates the grave mysteriously dies, deep gouges rending their bodies. You think your artifact could be used for that kind of thing?" It was an old rumor that became a folk tale... the fallen hero dying and legends stating his closest friend still keeps watch over his grave even in death. Only lately has it started to crop up again as people started to die, well, if it helped Rin it was worth checking out.

The construct was slightly surprised that the chef had no real reason for being in the forest. Such a concept was completely foreign to her; she had been created for a specific purpose and would stop at nothing to achieve her goals. The thought of wandering the land of Imythess with no real destination or plan seemed odd. Surely he had something to search for or accomplish as well? Rin did not inquire further as to his goals, as she knew that such an invasion of an individual's privacy could be considered rude. She soon finished up the last drops of the thick soup, laying down the bowl and utensil next to the fire and jumping back to her feet. Although Benagher ladled out another bowlful of the broth for himself the girl declined the offer, walking over to her trident instead. Rin yanked it out of the ground, scraping the three prongs against the grass in order to dislodge the clumps of soil sticking to the golden metal. As the chef finished his meal she began to practice once more, spinning the polearm through the air with such speed that appeared to be nothing more than a metallic blur.

When the cook had finished eating as well she stopped her training immediately, resing the spiked end of the trident on the ground and leaning on it as he spoke. At the mention of the legend her eyes lit up. Although the pages of the Grand Grimoire could easily be used by any mortal, there had been circumstances in the past where an especially strong spirit or myth had drawn the tome's power to that spot. The reality-warping powers of the sentient book could be manipulated in an infinite number of ways. The more that Benagher described the scene the more certain she became that one of the Grimoire's lost pages was the source of the anomaly. It would be a relatively simple matter for the page to give some phantasms a corporeal form in order to punish any transgressors on their resting place. "I'm not sure if it will be there... But it's a good place the start. I'll make sure to check it out!" She had not expected the chef to offer to accompany her, but when he did she beamed brightly. "Of course I would welcome your company!"

They began to break up the camp and were soon on their way, the chef's supplies packed up once more. Rin led the way, humming to herself as she navigated through the lush foliage. The melody was warbling and dissonant but the girl didn't seem to notice her ineptitude at music. She had decided to keep the trident close at hand and was using the end of the polearm to clear a path through the underbrush. Within an hour they had reached the gravestone that the chef had mentioned. It was in the middle of a forest clearing, the epitaph and name so eroded by time that they were no longer readable. The construct leaned over the tombstone, frowning as she tried to sense the page's power. It had gotten stronger the closer they drew to this site, but it did not seem to be contained within the grave itself or the immediate surroundings. "Is this the right place?" She wondered if they would be forced to desecrate the grave in order to summon the spirit...

Banagher followed her for the hour, her terrible musical sense almost giving him a headache, but she seemed to be having so much fun, it would be a pity to stop her. When they arrived at the grave site, he felt no odd presence, he felt nothing. He looked around for a moment, but when he heard her ask if this was the place, he nodded and walked to the stone, crouching down and place a palm on it, he pushed it, the stone falling over, and then immediately rising back up as a terrifying howl rent the air. He back up, getting into his martial arts stance as something started to appear from the woods, an old guard dog that you would see in Cascadia walked out from the trees, though this one was the size of a small cabin and seemed to only have solid surfaces on it's paws. It's ecto-slime slobber hit the ground and turned into water, what was wrong with this picture... oh yes, he wasn't running away, he was staring it down, growling as it raised a paw and smashed a tree.

It barked several times before charging Banagher, who immediately ducked and leaped to the side, getting out of the way as the dog rushed through the trees, destroying them. He himself growled, feeling his animalistic side would be needed for this little scuffle. His baggy clothing quickly becoming tighter, his face elongating slightly, his hair turning brown as the rest of his body also rapidly grew brown hair. His body growing more then half a foot tall, he was now even more of a towering behemoth. Though still not as big as that dog, he readied himself this time, trying to gauge the strength of his opponent was suicidal, he would simply have to step forward past the paw and attack. He readied himself as the dog charged him, swatting a paw at Banagher, he smirked, dashing inside the swing, thrusting his palm out to try and injure the beast, only to find his hand going straight through it.

Banagher quickly got out from under it, rushing to the side, he looked towards Rin,"I hope you've got a plan, I dunno how to kill a ghost dog." That much was true, he had no idea how to kill ghosts, he used fists and feet to fight, not magic. He hoped Rin would be able to figure out a way to hurt this beast.

She had not expected the chef to immediately walk over to the gravestone and push it over. Rin shouted out as it jerked back into its proper position and a howl rent the air. She watched with wide eyes as the humongous dog padded out of the woods, its lips pulled back in a feral snarl. It was easily the size of a small house, over twice her own height. As it rushed at Benagher she responded almost immediately, throwing the triple pronged spear directly at the charging beast. It soared through the air directly at the creature's bulk... And passed directly through its body. The girl muttered a dark curse underneath her breath, curled both hands into fists. She should have expected the weapon to be useless against an apparition; it was a potent artifact near a source of water but held no power over the undead.

The massive bear barreled through the trees, the trunks splintering as it charged into the underbrush. Benagher seemed to change in preparation for the upcoming battle; his form stretched and grew, becoming noticeably taller and stronger. The chef met the dog's next assault head-on, yet his clawed fists passed directly through its phantasmal body. Rin frowned at the sight; most of their attacks would be worthless against such an opponent.

"Stand back, Benagher! I can handle this!" The girl snapped the fingers on her right hand, her eyes narrowing dangerously. The air around her shimmered like she was in the center of a mirage. "Excalibur." There was a flash and the blade of legend appeared in her fingers. The grip was made of ivory, with a pommel of hardened gold and rubies. The crossguard was in the shape of two chimeras, their maws gaping open. Golden fire spread from the roaring mouths, coating the blade in a layer of golden energy that summed and sizzled in the open air.

The construct ran forward, nimbly spinning the blade of holy energy around her body. When she danced closer to the beast it lashed at her with one paw, but the girl nimbly ducked underneath its assault. She lashed upwards with Excalibur at the same time, the tip of the weapon digging into the ghost dog's flesh. The beast howled in pain as the holy energy seared its incorporeal form, actually harming its intangible body. Rin smirked and hopped backwards, holding the sword in one hand and grinning wildly. Her entire body seemed to reverberate with excitement for battle. She had been constructed for the purpose of fighting to recollect the pages of the Grimoire; completing this task was everything for the girl. It didn't manner if her opponent was a phantom dog or an entire army; she would vanquish anyone that stood between her and the next page of the Grand Grimoire.

Banagher watched Rin attack, her blade was effective... he was effectively useless in his fight, he reverted to his normal form, he was faster this way, less muscle and fur, he needed to be light to do what he was planning. He remembered an old lesson from his grandfather, 'if a man is stronger then you and you have nowhere else to run, meet his attack with an attack of your own, even if it's weaker, as long as it's faster you can win. Speed is the key factor, hit his fist first while he doesn't expect it, his entire arm and muscle will keep on moving while his fist stopped, causing his own force to redouble on himself, remember Banagher, speed is key in how you fight.' Banagher rushed forward, bating the dog on, waiting for it to attack, he grimaced as he readied himself, curling his palm into a fist, he watched the dog bring it's paw up, slamming down at him, he dodged to the side easily. He watched as the other paw quickly went to swipe at him, trying to catch him off balance.

Banagher quickly stood his ground, bring his fist out, jabbing forward, a light quick punch, he felt it impact the pad... that was good, that meant the paws weren't insubstantial, he had a chance at winning. He felt pain in his arm, stopping that attack still hurt him quite a bit, even sent him skidding back, but he had injured the dog, it whined and growled all at once as it looked at Banagher, drooling and growling, it was going to be a long fight at this rate. He stood his ground once again, ready to take on another hit, anything to buy Rin some time to attack it.

The girl whirled backwards, spinning the glowing blade in a defensive pattern that kept the dog from batting at her once more. The massive beast seemed to be able to control when its paws were incorporeal or not; its own attacks would rip deep chunks in the forest floor, sending dirt and vegetation flying in every direction. The flipped backwards, dashing backwards from the creature. Benagher transformed again, his form shrinking in order to more compact and less muscular. However, he seemed to grow faster as well, dancing around the phantom dog's form. The chef's fists seemed capable of stopping the canine's paws, even through the force from such an attack must have been painful to counter.

You need to find a way to kill this creature, Rinrae. My page is close.

The chef seemed willing to not retreat in order to give her more opportunities to attack the ghost's bulk. Rin dashed forward, jabbing forward with the blade. A normal weapon would have been useless against the phantasm, but luckily for the construct her weapon was specifically tailored to concentrate holy energy. It couldn't influence non-living objects under normal circumstances, but thankfully its holy nature allowed the blade to still harm the ghost.

She kicked the paw as the beast lashed out at Benagher, redirecting its strike so that it wouldn't rip the chef in half. "Please be more careful! I don't want you to get hurt!" The construct spun forward, whirring the blade above her head in a broad circular pattern. The dog snarled and slammed its paw down on her anyway, but the legendary blade still cut through its flesh and completely severed the limb. The girl smiled wildly as the appendage flew off across the clearing, the phantasmal flesh fading out of existence once it got too far from the ghost's main body.

"Looks like that wor- Oh... Oh, nevermind..." The girl watched with dismay as the dog's leg seemed to regrow, reforming into a whole limb. The dog barked at them ferociously before barreling forward once more in a juggernaut-like charge. The girl threw herself sideways in a handspring to avoid the attack, spiraling out of the way of the phantom dog.

Banagher heard Rin cry out, she didn't want him to get hurt... well sometimes it was best to endure pain to get the best possible result. He dodged a few stomping paws and kept his distance, trying to get it to swat at him. It didn't work, though his distraction was enough that Rin could cut off one of the legs, he smiled only for a moment before frowning, the dog could regenerate it's ghostly limbs. The only way was to destroy it completely... or something else. He saw the dog charge, it reminded him of lunch rush hour at the stall in Cascadia... but instead of a dozen people tearing up the streets it was a ghost dog running straight at him.

He watched Rin jump out of the way, he himself was sore from the first hit he took, they needed a decisive win... or maybe that wasn't it. Maybe they didn't need to win, he dropped to his knees and bent down, bowing to the beast and crying out, "I'm sorry! Please forgive me!" He didn't look up, he would be dead in a moment if the dog didn't stop, though he stayed there for a few more seconds before looking up. The dog hanging it's head low to look Banagher in the eye, it was no longer growling, it seemed to understand what Banagher was doing and walked back to the grave, slowly transforming into the form of a pug.

Banagher looked at the ghostly pug and walked over to it, he could now see the intelligence in it's eyes and bowed again, speaking to the dog, "I'm sorry I pushed over your master's grave. I'm sorry... I know how it feels to lose someone dear to you, you never get over it... but shouldn't you be getting home to the master who's waiting for you in the afterlife...?" The dog turned his head, it's ears perking up, his tiny stubby tail wagging. It seemed you just had to be nice to the dog and respect it's master and it wouldn't fight... what a wonderful creature, even after all these years it was still loyal to it's master.

The dog slowly walks over to Banagher, biting his pant's leg and tugging, trying to get him to follow. Banagher looked to Rin and shrugged, allowing the dog to lead him a short ways away, no more then twenty feet away was gray twisted tree, it was shriveled and dying, the ghost pug walking into a small burrow at it's base. Yipping a few times, Banagher looked to Rin, "I think... I think he wants us to reach in." He didn't know what exactly could be in there... but Rin was searching for a magical artifact and it could very well be what was keeping the dog in this world. Now all he could do was wait for either Rin to stick her hand in or to ask him to do it for her.
