| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Elena winced as she heard the sound of a bow drawing. Maybe that had been a poor decision? She'd need to be less trusting in the future. But a sudden twang and immediate blackness did not follow, it seemed her ally had backed down. Well, at least she'd have more time to conquer her curse. She moved over to one of the individual creatures, the little plated beastie. It seemed partially alive, even with the arrows stuck in it. "Methinks bows are not the greatest weapons for dealing with the undead." Elena murmured. She examined the beast some, passing her hand over its twitching frame. There was a snag. She hunted her magic into it, and quickly modified the healing spell her father had taught her. The beast twitched a little less, slowly standing. She hunted more with her magic, found the tiny little center that controlled it, and resurrected the beast properly with a different spell. The arrows left its bulk, and the creature slid up to her. "I've taken control of its silly little mind. Thankfully, my father's magic isn't too hard to decrypt. At least for me, I'm familiar with it." Elena explained. She stepped back and the creature followed her, and then pointed over at the remains of the hatchery-structure. It waddled over and began feasting. "Oh. Well. I guess I need to iron out how I work the commands. And study this area longer. Would you be willing to stick around, Tandorus? I need to burn the remains to prevent anything...unfortunate from happening." Elena explained. |

Tand nodded to her, "Probably, ya'd need a good hammer or club fer skeletons and a nice bladed weapon fer zombies and tha' like fer undead." He looked around the room, keeping her in the corner of his eye, half-watching her heal and resurrect the small creature. Tand nodded, she said her father's magic was easy to decrypt... good, it was unlikely that it was his fault. He watched her command it... and saw it feasting on the fleshy mess, he gave her an odd look, "Ya mean ya weren't tryin' ta' feed it tha' nasty fleshy things...?" He didn't know exactly what she was trying to do, having the beast eat it could result in unknown side effects, either way Tand did not want to have that little beast come near him. Tand listened to her and contemplated on whether or not staying here was a good idea... her plague thing could infect him... but she just said it was from sharing water, so as long as he doesn't drink from the same canteen as her he should be fine. He smiled and nodded, "Yeah, I'll stick around ta' keep an eye out fer enemies and tha' like, can't let a beautiful woman stay in this place by herself now can I?" He was more worried about the undead things with the crazy mouths... they were undead and his arrows couldn't stop them in one shot, that was his ability normally, to end a fight with a single arrow, but undead were a different story, he would need several arrows to cripple them then put enough holes in the body until the power left it and it became a corpse once more. He could only think of one thing to say when those things happened, 'Thank tha' gods fer self-returnin' arrows.' Tand let Elena get to work, taking out a single arrow and placing it on the string, if anything jumped out at them, he would be the first to attack it. |

Elena gathered all the bits and pieces for a proper fire, laying down kindling and longer burning wood on the remnants of the larger hatchery-thing. The creature she resurrected contented itself with eating the remains of its kin. She kept a careful watch on its tiny mind, but she found that the creature had little interests beyond eating and following orders. She drew a match from her pack and struck it against one of the beams, dropping it into the pile of splintered wood she had for kindling. In moments a roaring fire started. "The best part about fire starting in Istan is that you barely need to worry about it spreading." Elena said. She walked outside, the beasty in tow. She glanced back to it. "I think I'll need to name it." Elena said. She glanced over at Tandorus. He was still prepared for a fight. She shook her head at him. "There couldn't have been that many if these creatures were just based on the local food supply. I also suspect they'd fight to the death for that hatchery-thing." Elena explained. With a shrug she turned around to stare at the burning building. Her creature skipped off to devour a few more of the creature corpses. "I really wasn't trying to feed it, I was just trying to tell it to go somewhere. I'll work out the kinks later, maybe it just likes to eat its own kind?" Elena added, more than a little late. She nodded at Tandorus. Her hand produced a few pretty little coins. "There. Since I'm certain the job is over, I'll pay you now and we can part ways. I'd like to know where the closest mage's guild is however, I'd like to get their opinion." Elena said. Sweat fell from her nose as the day became warmer. She wiggled her cloak about, getting some of the less-hot air to circulate through it. |

Tand could smell the flames as he listened to her, sure maybe that was all, but there was more then undead beasts in the desert. He took only half of the coins, this job was to simple for the amount she was paying, he might as well let her know, "Jus' because any known threat is destroyed doesn't mean an unknown threat won't present itself. As fer tha' Mages Guild... tha' only one I know of is a four day walk south of tha' town we met in." He turned to walk out to see the sands shifting slightly... then settling down, he froze in place, raising a hand to signal her to stop. He scanned the area, pulling back the arrow that was still on his bow string, firing it into the sand, a loud hissing noise and the clattering skitter of six large bug-like creatures, large mandibles dripping with an odd green liquid, one of them with an arrow sticking out of it's back. Tand cursed and grabbed the doors, slamming them shut. He turned to Elena, panic in his eyes for only a second before formulating a plan, "No time fer a long explanation, those bug things, I call'em Mana-Eaters, they eat tha' flesh and mana of livin' beings. When they're young they tend ta' only eat mana from passing caravans, dunno where they came from, but over tha' last few years they've been croppin' up more often then raiders. We've got six adults that will break down tha' door, if ya can try ta' stoke tha' flames ta' give us some smoke cover, if we get bitten by tha' biggun we're done fer if it's not healed in tha' next hour. I'll hold tha' door fer as long as I can, once it opens, run." He didn't wait for her to agree, his voice had sounded like his old voice when he was a commander in the Black Bows, his eyes had a hard glint to them as he put his shoulder to the door, holding it shut, waiting for the woman to do as he said, he hoped she would just follow orders, but if she had a better idea he was more then happy to hear of it... but for now, he felt the crashing bump of a body hitting the door. He knew in a few more the door would start to crack and splinter, Elena needed to act fast. |
