Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

A figure emerged from the mist, a man in his early twenties, with messy brown hair. He quickly glanced behing him to make sure they weren't following him still. He was tired from running. It had been a day since he awoken in a mysterious shack, without a clue of who he was or even his own name. Now he was being hunted by two cloaked men, for reasons unknown. Suddenly he heard twigs and leaves on the ground crunching in the distance, he wasn't sure who or what was there but he hid behind the nearest tree, and drew and arrow from his quiver. He hoped it wasn't the cloaked men...

Kurma stumbled along through the mist. He shivered as cold mist clung to his thick skin, giving him the feeling of cold sweat beading down his body. It was dark out, which made it difficult for the old turtle to see. He took step by step through the trees, his weight partially supported by a long shaft of oak, a walking staff he had carved himself from a fallen branch.

He was searching for something, but he had told no one before he left. It was puzzling really, to those who knew him. He certainly didn't have a tendency for secrecy. Hesitation, yes. Indecision, sure. But he was rarely sneaky or deceitful. In fact, he seemingly lacked the capacity for lying.

Crunch, crunch. His footfalls were awfully heavy.

The man waited until the crunching was close, then he emerged from behind the tree, bow raised and leveled at the being that stood before him. He wasn't sure what it was he was looking at but it seemed to resemble a giant turtle. He shouted to the being "Why are you following me!" Inside he was nervous but he managed to keep a coolness about him, he was not sure what this things before him was, but if need be he would defend himself from it.

As the stranger emerged from behind the tree, Kurma raised his free arm in surrender before the arrow pointed directly at him. He had had no intention of fighting tonight, though his weapons were still present. He made no show of drawing them, however.

"I am no more following you than you are me, stranger," Kurma said, passively, with a level tone in his voice. "Now why don't you lower your bow before you take someone's eye out?" he suggested, lowering his walking staff to the ground before standing again, his hands out at his sides, trying to show that he truly had no treachery.

He wasn't sure whether to trust this "Thing" or not, but he was exhausted and decided he would be no match against the massive being. And so he gradually lowered his bow, and spoke to the Turtle " Who are you and what do you know of the two cloaked men that were following me?".

Kurma took several long moments of pause before providing his answer, stroking his scaly chin with a clawed hand. "I don't know much about cloaked men except that they generally have something to hide," he finally said, nodding, satisfied with his response.

"What do you know of cloaked men?" Kurma asked, his question cryptic, but still following a logical train of thought. He wondered if perhaps something could be worked out between the two of their minds.

The man began to relax, he realized that the turtle seemed to mean no harm to him. And so he spoke to the turtle and said "I know not of the reason at which the cloaked men hunt me." Then very sheepishly he added "In fact I don't even know my own name, nor do I know who am". "What is your name Turtle?", he asked.

Kurma sized up the stranger, a human. He was at least a foot taller than him, and his hair was dark brown, appearing black in the darkness. "Call me Kurma," the turtle said simply, nodding slowly before crouching once more to collect his staff.

"A man who has forgotten himself..." Kurma mused, cocking his head and staring curiously at the nameless man. "How tragically sad." He took a step forward, towards the man. "I will refer to you as Raven, until you have decided your own name, for the raven heralds tragedy." The raven was one of many precious animals which Kurma admired. They were intelligent and beautiful, among other things.

"Raven", the man thought to himself as he rolled the word around in his mind. The name seemed to fit considering the state he was in.

"Very well Kurma, you may call me Raven." "For now..." He added.

Something began to nag at Raven's mind, something was wrong but he did know what. He listened to the forest, for any hint. But all was silent except for Kurma's breathing, and Raven could clearly tell that he was uncomfortable in the cold, wet mist. Then he saw glint of metal in the mist behind Kurma. He feared it might be the two cloaked men.

"Kurma, I hope you know how to fight. Because we might have company."

When Raven didn't object to his new name, the tortoise was quite pleased with himself. He offered a smile as he nodded his head, mulling the name over in his mind.

"Kurma, I hope you know how to fight. Because we might have company," the man said, his tone serious. The man's dark eyes seemed to focus on something behind Kurma, so the great tortoise immediately turned to face the darkness. Turning his back to the stranger was not necessarily a show of faith, however. Kurma's hard shell would protect him from almost any attack from behind.

The tortoise saw it too, a glint of steel in the mist, and Kurma drew one of his two heavy weapons, metal shafts with great wrecking balls on their ends. In the tortoise's homeland, these were referred to as hammers, but they were vastly different from the hammers used by the people of Taras or Cascadia.

"Show yourself," Kurma warned. Rustling from within the shroud was the only response he got.

An arrow whizzed past Raven's face, another grazing his cheek, leaving a long gash. A third missile ricocheted off the edge of Kuram's shell burrowing itself into a nearby tree. Raven ducked behind an old Oak to his left. While Kuram Still stood his ground in the face of danger. From Kuram's stance Raven knew that this wasn't the first the ancient turtle had seen combat.

Raven saw a figure emerge from the mist directly to Kuram's right. He called out to warn him about a new assailant. Raven then he knocked an arrow onto his bow and tried to get a bead on to the archer shooting at him. But alas he could not see his attacker through the mist.
"Curse this blasted mist" Raven muttered.

Kurma growled as he allowed his sensibilities and instincts to combine and manifest themselves into battle prowess. The tortoise rarely told anyone, but the hours of meditation he conducted nearly every day were training for his mind to be prepared for, among other things, battle. He could channel most feelings into his muscles, especially the instincts of self-preservation that propelled him to stay alive.

Two arrows came from the mist, one of them bouncing off the the tortoise's chest, deflected by the shell that protected his back and much of his torso. He wouldn't have known it, but a skilled alchemist could tell you that Kurma's natural shell was made of a compound almost identical to adamantine.

Kurma drew his other hammer, and he bounced them in his arms as if to weigh them, but he didn't need to. He was familiar with their balance. A call of warning came from behind him. His new ally had seen something to the tortoise's right flank, and now, Kurma saw it too. A cloaked figure approached from the side, a long hunting dagger in his hand, raised to strike. The tortoise turned to his right, using his immense strength and the momentum of his arm to smash his hammer's head into the assailant's chest, likely shattering his ribcage as he fell backwards, a sickening crunch sounding from the impact.

Raven had never seen anything like it before, Kuram had swung his great weapon knocking his assailant off his feet with a large wet crack. Raven saw a shadow move in the direction that the arrows had flown from. He took aim at the shadow, aiming at its leg in order to immobilize it. He let the arrow fly, and it hit its mark. The shadow falling to the ground.

"Gotcha!" he exclaimed. Raven moved closer to get a better view at his foe.
The man, now lying on the ground, tried to draw his sword but Raven was faster, shooting another arrow directly into the man's hand. With his hand now pinned to the ground the man was now defenseless. Raven now made his move, with dagger in hand he approached the fallen man.

Raven held his dagger up to the man's throat and spoke.
"Why did you attack us?" he said with fire in his voice. Hopefully he would be able to extract answers from the man.

With the first of the cloaked men disposed, the tortoise turned to locate the other, letting the first escape his mind. His hammers hung at his sides, and his biceps bulged with the strength necessary to wield the enormous weapons. A human, like Raven, would likely require two hands to carry just one of them, but Kurma, despite his size, possessed immense strength, partially from carrying his shell with him, and partially from the years he'd spent honing his proficiency with his deadly weapons.

While Kurma couldn't find the second assassin, Raven's arrows did. The tortoise moved his quickest and arrived at the man's side as his ally did. Another arrow was fired into the would-be attacker's hand, and the man was left defenseless and in agony.

"Why did you attack us?" Raven tried to incite from the man, his dagger hovering over the assailant's throat.

"I'll die," the man growled. Such bravado for a man with a blade to his skin.

"I'd suggest you answer the question," Kurma said, "lest you desire a wound like your ally's." Once again, the tortoise bounced his heavy mallets in his hands.

"Fine, its your choice be silent..." Raven withdrew the dagger from the man't throat, then moved it over the man's thigh. He plunged the dagger into the man's leg, causing the already injured man on the ground to scream in agony. After removing the dagger from the man's leg, Raven moved the dagger back to his foe's neck. "Now speak!", Raven yelled, his voice breaking the silence of the forest. The man on the ground stammered then finally spoke "Look at your arm, you bear the mark of the order." Raven quickly glanced at his arm and saw a dark mark on his arm he had never noticed before. The mark bore the shape of an eye with two crossed daggers behind it. "Alright continue."he said to the man.
"You were once one of us..." the man looking at his now dead companion. "A member of the Order of the Admantine Daggers, we were a group of hunters.""Hunters of what?" Raven said. "Hunters of men." the man replied, "We were assassins."
It now made sense to Raven, his keen sense of alertness, and how well he was able to hide in the shadows.
The man now having lost lots of blood, was dieing. "Where can I learn more about the Order?"
The man now on his last breathes managed to whisper, "Go to the Istan Desert." Then the man died. Raven sheathed his dagger, then removed the arrows from the man's body. He searched the man's body and found nothing. Raven decided that he would take the man's sword, seeing as he no longer had a use for it.
"Kuram, go search the other man, lets see if we can find anything that could be of use."
