Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Banagher was helping out a small outdoor tavern with cooking, he showed them how to fix a stone slab into a hot plate, allowing him to fry up foods quickly on the slab. He was filling out orders and was even doing the job for free, he just wanted to cook up the food and was even using his own spices he carried in his back pack to help cook up delicious meals. He made all kinds of dishes, curry, nabe, stews, lamb, anything ordered he quickly made as he sat down on a small stool, making him look to be shorter then average men, while it wasn't on par with pros, his meals were cheap and delicious even with the below average materials he was using.

He looked up as a man threw his bowl of stew to the ground... what a waste of food, the man yelled and complained about finding a finger in his stew... impossible, he still had all of his fingers. The man started to demand his money back, several men sitting with him stood up to and started to agree with him, it was so obvious they were in cahoots, scamming local taverns for a free meal or two to save gold, arrogant fools. He quickly finished off the order for his last customer and wiped off his hands, letting the serving wench take it. He signal for them to come over to him and tried to talk them down, "I am sorry that there was a finger in your meal, but it's impossible that it came from us, now please, leave now, I will not be fooled by your scam of putting an old dried up finger in a bowl of freshly made stew, one that didn't even have any meat in it." He memorized every meal he cooked, noting who he gave it to and how their faces looked, it was how he learned people's tastes if he ever saw them again.

He saw the look of shock pass one of the younger member's face, he was spot on. Though the client denied it vehemently, "How dare you, a lowly chef, accuse me of ruining my own meal! If you won't pay me back my money, I will take it in blood!" He pulled a knife, the time for fighting was coming soon, it was time for his last gambit, he stood up. Showing how he easily dwarfed the men by almost ten inches. He looked down at them, "Now... either leave or I will take that threat to heart..." The men took a step back, their faces pale, they left what money they still owed and ran away. Banagher sighed, he disliked fighting, it was pointless, he noticed new orders coming in, people ordering seconds of his food, he smiled, this was his calling, cooking. He quickly sat back down and started to cook the food, happily humming as he cooked.

Upon the tavern's outside bar sat a ranger, who was right next to all the action as the small group of fellows attempted to extort the chef for a free meal. Smoking himself a good bit of tobacco in his clay pipe, Logan simply sat and mused to himself the whole time, as he'd seen how well the chef handled his cookware and knew that the fight would be a bloody and short one. Still the ranger kept his free hand rested on the hilt of Thrae, his bastard sword, just in case the men got a bit too bold for their own good.

Logan chuckled and smiled with his teeth clasped round his pipe's stem as he saw the other men run for the hills when they noticed just who they were going up against. Taking a drink of ale from a tankard he'd ordered earlier, Logan turned back toward the bar and the chef, who was indeed quite towering. The man was a good seven inches taller than the ranger, making a lot of tall men look rather short. The way he handled his cutlery, too, looked like he was very experienced in the ways of fighting, an expertise that wouldn't escape the eye of a skilled swordsman like Logan.

"Cooky," called Logan, finishing his ale and signalling for another, "Get me a vegetable and beef stew. Make it fresh and you'll earn yourself an extra gold piece for the trouble."

He nodded to the man, "Vegetable and meat stew, comin' right up!" He quickly takes out carrots, potatoes, and several green veggies and chops them up, putting them to the side as he brings out a good chunk of meat, cutting it to pieces and putting flour on it, he moved it onto the hot plate to cook for a bit before adding it to the boiling water. His hands moving as shoved the diced veggies into the pot, allowing them to soften up before tilting the hot plate to allow the juices from the meat and meat itself to fall into the pot. He smiled as he let it cook stirring it an adding a few spices here and there.

It was about ten minutes later when he thought it was thick enough, taking out a bowl and scooping the contents into it, placing it on the counter, "Stew's ready sir, I hope you enjoy it." He looked up to see the men he had scared off before, staring at him and smirking, something was going to happen soon enough. Though they seemed to just walk away, oddly enough maybe they were just going to stay away, not try to hurt him or the outdoor tavern owner who was kind enough to employ him.

He shook his head, it was best to be cautious, he poured himself a bowl of stew and ate it to regain some of his strength before going back to serving the customers, quickly dispensing food, water, and ale to those who needed it.

"Good stew", croaked Logan as he took a bite of the fresh lentils and broth, savoring this rare time where he wouldn't have to rely on his own stews for once. Though he was by no means a bad cook, Logan always had to spice his stews up pretty hard in order to achieve a decent flavoring after the boil. Pulling out a gold piece, Logan flipped it to the cook before continuing to eat his stew and drink his ale.

Logan checked behind him to see the men the cook had scared off staring at the large man for a second with a smirk on their faces. Raising an eyebrow in curiosity, Logan finished his stew and ale before smoking his pipe a little more. As he smoked, Logan slid his ale tankard across the bar to the cook, signalling he was ready for another round.

When the cook turned to him, Logan met his eyes and batted them toward the men from earlier. Shrugging his shoulders, Logan used body language to ask his question: "You think they'll try anything?"

Banagher looked to Logan then the men and shrugged, "They'll try to teach me manners and beat me when I'm off duty, though they're weak it could give me some trouble since I don't plan on killing them." He looked to the owner who walked up, standing on a stool to pat Ban's shoulder, whispering into his ear, he nodded and let the man take his station as the chef, he cracked his knuckles and looked towards where the men went, it was best to confront them now then later. He would let them fight, he would beat them, and leave them on the ground to recover as the guards picked them up.

He walked for a while until his foes surrounded him, he sighed with relief as he saw the eight men unarmed, that would make this fight a lot easier, there would be no words exchanged, he brought his hands up close to his face, ready to fight, one of the men ran at him, throwing a wide right punch at his chest, Ban smirked as he stepped forward at the last moment, widening his stance and slamming his elbow into the man's chest, he felt his chest give as the man collapsed onto the ground, his ribes were broken, he would not get up easily, the others would come at him with more caution, now it was time to wait for them to attack, his best shot was to dodge attacks and use counter blows whenever he could.

"Foolish, he is," grunted Logan as he received a refilled tankard of ale, "actively seeking a fight like that..." Logan rose from his chair and followed the tall, burly fellow as he sought out the eight who'd attacked him earlier. When the men surrounded the big man and began to attack, Logan drank his ale and watched the spectacle unfolding in front of his. Shifting Thrae into a drawing position at his left side just in case he had to join in, Logan admired the man's rather powerful fighting style as he pounded each man into dust.

Still, there were several other foes left, and Logan was in no mood to get himself drawn into a multi-man fight with himself on the outnumbered side. He much preferred to wait until the best possible moment to enter, when it would tip the scale against an overwhelmed opponent. So until such an opportunity presented itself, Logan would stand back from the fight and allow the cook to take care of himself, which he was doing quite well.

Ban stepped forward, grabbing a man by his shirt, whipping him around and slamming him into his friend. He turned to block a kick from the side, dropping his elbow down to block it, the shin he had was probably damaged, it was going to be a while until he could walk comfortably he stepped forward as the man howled in pain, his palms struck out, slamming him in the chest, throat, and nose. He turned to the others who were now hesitating, seeing their allies being beaten so badly had caused them to stop, it was time for the finishing touch. He roared at them and shifted into his hybrid form, growing an extra foot in height and roaring out in hiw were-bear hybrid form, his noise and jaw seemed to elongate into a snout, his fingers became shorter but became clawed, his blond hair became brown as brown hair sprouted from his entire body, and finally his baggy clothing became tight as the new hybrid form's muscles took place.

The men screamed in fear as they heard the roar, sending them skittering away, he was a were-bear, and he made no real effort to hide it. He shifted back into his human form as he chuckled, the men wouldn't bother him again, he turned around to see the man who had ordered the stew, "Ah... you saw that scrap huh? Don't tell the old man running the outdoor tavern, his daughter told me he's a strong man with a weak heart, and knowing a were-bear was working for him miiiiight push him over the edge." He smiled at the man as he walked towards him, "So who are you stranger, and why did you follow me exactly?"

The fact that this rather giant man turned out to be a beastman aligned with the bear came as no surprise to Logan, himself rather experienced dealing with such creatures. As a rule, though, he avoided them wherever possible lest he wind up dying from a single misstep. Content that this man wouldn't need his help after all, Logan simply stayed back and watched the cook dispose of the rest of the thugs.

"Not one for talking about unpleasant things, myself," grunted Logan as the cook approached him. "You've my word I won't utter a peep about this little scuffle."

"Name's Logan, of the Pathwalkers," the ranger answered, extending his hand in a simple greeting, "People 'round here used to know me as Peacemaker, until I retired from adventuring and sequestered myself in a hermitage. I kept an eye on you just in case you needed help. The average man, and that goes for myself, can't usually stand up to a bunch of thugs without a bit of backup. I was waiting for you to take down a few of the brutes before stepping in, myself, but I backed off once you had things under control."

Ban smiled and nodded, "Nice to meet you, but I was trained in ways these guys wouldn't imagine, it also helped they had no combat experience, my grandfather could have run circles around them and sent made them see hell before they fell down." He started towards him and extended his hand to shake, speaking to him, "Well Logan, my name's Banagher, call me Ban for short, now is there anything you'd like to eat? I find myself with little company these days and I wouldn't mind someone to talk to over a hot meal." He waited for his answer as he thought of all the possible meals.

His mind became immediately swarmed by the thoughts of chicken and beef, deer and rabbit, vegetables, fruits, herbs, and roots. All of his recipes forming in his head, he had a wide variety to choose from, maybe the man would like some cuisine from his home. He brought himself from his dreams of food, he turned his thoughts back to Logan, wondering what his answer would be.

"That stew you made earlier was quite delectable," Logan acknowledged, returning Banagher's greeting by grasping the man's wrist, exchanging a proper warrior's greeting, "However, if you've any method of preparing choice cuts of beef or venison, I must admit it's been quite sometime since I've enjoyed what was would call a 'proper' meal." Logan chuckled, gesturing back down the boardwalk.

"Quite interesting," the ranger said softly, shifting his blade back down his belt into the folds of his duster, having not needed to draw it after all, "How does a chef like yourself learn such skill to be able to fight in a full-out brawl like that? I, myself, am something of a master bladesman, but I'm not so arrogant to think that my own skill with the sword would be more than a match for multiple foes. I've fought my way out of a good few dire situations like that, but I've also got the scars to prove that those are never pleasant."

Ban smiled widely, "I'm not a master chef yet, but I'm glad you liked my stew, as for meat and venison, I know a few good recipes and I have plenty of spices in my pack, I can make some good beef or venison stew, roasts, or even a hotpot. As for the martial arts training... Grandpa taught it to me and my father gave me strength training, though for a were-bear I'm a bit small for my age, but I've got another two years of growing left before I reach my full height, though I don't think I'll beat my father's height... but back to the martial training, I grew up fighting people for most of my days, while I don't love fighting my strength and reach give me an advantage that most people can't beat in unarmed combat. Now for food, we can use the outdoor tavern's kitchen, my pack is there to."

He lead Logan back to the kitchen and greeted the old man, "I'm back sir, now I'll start making the food for the late night group, I'm thinking a venison hotpot, a beef roast, and something special from my home, a rather sticky and juicy desert, so I'll be using some of the sweeter fruits to. Also our friend here helped me out a little while back, so if he could have a free meal during the late night group." The old man chuckled and gave a short reply, "Sure, why not, thanks fer helpin' out this young chef, please sit down and watch Ban cook, it's like a performance." He turned away to keep on taking orders with the young barmaid. Ban smiled and turned to Logan, "Go ahead and sit down, we can talk as I cook." He prepared his wares and switched out the pots and pans, getting everything set as he waited for his friend's questions.

"I'm sure it is," mumbled Logan as the owner greeted him. Taking his old seat from earlier, Logan ordered a round of ale for himself as Ban began to cook. He looked forward to a good and proper meal for the first time in a long time, as he rarely made himself roasts and the like back at the hermitage. Pulling out his long corncob and filled the pipe with tobacco, the ranger lit up a good pinch before taking a few draws, the sweet tobacco's taste filling his mouth.

"So," Logan said, exhaling the smoke from his lungs, "what's a cook like you doing here in Taras? The place hasn't, exactly, been in the best of shape since that demon invasion sometime ago." When Logan received his ale, he took a nice draught from it while waiting for Ban's reply.

Ban looked over his ingredients and started cutting the beef, he heard Logan's question and answered it as he prepared the meals, "Oh I'm just here to practice my craft, feed people, help out where I can. I don't care about making money, but gaining some fame, getting to know a few people and even learn a few recipes of local cuisine. So basically knowledge of cooking brought me here." Ban cut the meat into pretty thick slabs, he knew most people would say they were to big to cook for a hotpot, the center would either be undercooked or the other items would be burnt, he knew how to solve it though. He quickly placed a second pot of water to the side and started to boil the first pot, he quickly rolled the meat around in flour before tossing it into the boiling water, it would help create a decent sauce to help keep the meat's flavor.

He took the fat from the meat and pushed it to the side for later use, he started to prepare the vegetables as he got the second pot ready for use, he spoke just loud enough for Logan to hear, "So what do you do while you're here? Do you just enjoy yourself or do you do as your nickname implies and you create peace for everyone? No offense but you just seem a lot more cautious then other people I've met, kinda like my old hometown's elders." He kept on chopping up vegetables as he waited for Logan's answer.

"When one's fought the battles I've fought and seen the things I've seen, sometimes taking things slowly and patiently is the best course of action," Logan replied, taking another draw from his pipe before continuing, "I was involved in a bit of cleanup in the city guard some weeks ago, and not too long ago I helped fend off a bandit raid upon this very Boardwalk, but otherwise I don't do too much while I'm here in Taras aside from enjoy a good drink and trade for some goods I need back at my hermitage in Norwood Forest."

Taking another drink of ale, Logan sat back and simply observed Ban's craftsmanship as he prepared the meal. While he said that he wasn't anywhere close to a master chef, well, Ban still knew his way around a kitchen and had a good talent for food preparation. It showed with his efficiency in preparing ingredients and getting key components ready just in time for them to be utilized.

"My old nickname is just a title some folk gave to me," grunted Logan, chuckling as he took another draught of ale, "I was called Peacemaker because of my ability to resolve situations with minimal casualties and thus I would 'make' peace happen. Not exactly a subtle title, but it still makes a couple of folks question themselves when they want to try and tussle with me."
