| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Shan looked around at the curving tunnel walls, then at his map, and again at the tunnel intersection, each one looking equally dead end-like in the torchlight. Now that he was truly lost and studying the map because his life depended on it, he noticed just how crude and out of scale it was, not to mention that, before now, there have been tunnel turnings the map never mentioned, and drawn intersections that never came to light. He had marked on the back of the map the turnings he took and should be able to find his way back, assuming the tunnels didn't collapse or change on him. However, it was getting late, and he wondered if he'd need to stop before he got out again. In retrospect, buying a map from a sleazy guy because it was "super cheap" might not have been the best idea, no matter how poor you are, his common sense said. This is definitely not a shortcut. We're turning back now. Shan looked down the tunnels again with the slight hope a food stand was established down one of them in the past few minutes. He sighed and turned to go back. "I'm just hoping there aren't any bears in here. Everything's worse with bears." |

Evals stood in the middle of one of the many tunnels. It was a natural and unnatural mix of caves down here. If one wasn't use to them, they could get lost. Evals spent about twenty years living in the Dark Lands, so knew them well enough. Well enough to know when and where she had enough of it two years ago. She looked at the spot, then towards the ceiling. The light from her lantern illuminating the rocky passageway. There was still scorch marks on the ceiling. Moving her foot, she looked at the floor. They weren't there, it was used. It happened. Yet Evals still knelt down and touched the spot, rage building up inside of her. This was where she had to play dead like a coward when that man cut her head off. She was glad he was gone, of all of the people that seemed to disappear off the face of Imythess. Would she disappear too one day. Evals was about to turn around and walk away, to where she had to go while in the Dark Lands, when she felt someone moving through the tunnels. Their vibrations just appeared to her, they were at least thirty yards away. She turned off her lantern and left it off to the side. While laying down small amounts of webbing, Evals started to climb up the walls like a spider and she hid on the ceiling. Waiting for whoever it was to come, maybe she could use them for what she had to do. |

Shan munched another piece of journeybread as he made the next turn. Thank goodness he'd decided to mark his progress, or else he'd be stuck here forever. His progress was uneventful until he went to lift his foot. He couldn't. He tried lifting his front foot, and also found he couldn't. Confused, he bent down and examined the floor under torchlight. "What the..." he reached down to stroke the shimmering pattern threads. "Spider webs?" Don't touch it don't touch it DON'T TOUCH- Shan found he couldn't lift his hand away. Tried to warn you his common sense said. If you can't free your foot, how are you freeing your hand? Feeling slight panic, he found he could pull his hand away a few inches. He put his torch to the webbing, forgetting how close his hand was. "Ow!" he yelped, getting the source of the pain as far from him as possible. This meant throwing the torch across the cavern, where it rolled and extinguished. Shan knelt, trapped and alone in the dark. With his hand trapped, removing his boots and stepping away was not an option. Even if he still had a free hand to use his dagger, he was, for all intents and purposes, helpless. "Godsdammit." Evals watched the man come up and get his foot stuck in some of the webbing she left over. She could've taken him away right then and there but he wasn't going anywhere now. It was also amusing to her to watch him attempt to get free from her webs. Ha, fire. Her webs were practically resilient to fire, that wouldn't work. Yet now there was no light and she couldn't see him. Time to reel him in, she guessed. She shot webbing down at the man to completely engulf his torso in it. Once he was stuck, she proceeded to pull him upwards on a thick thread of the web. The amount on his body would break him away from the webbing on the ground. If not, he would be losing whatever footware he had on as well as a handful of skin off of his, well hand. "Quiet now." She hissed at him, this was quite a catch for her purposes this day. |

Shan was wondering what he'd die of first when he felt something envelop his torso, pinning his arms to his sides. It felt rather cozy, except for the fact that he couldn't move. The actual panic didn't set in until he felt himself moving upward. "Hey! What?! Who's there?!" Shan yelled as he felt his feet and hand draw the ground webbing upward. It managed to snap off his hand with only a twinge of pain, but his boots were snuggly fitted and presenting a problem, until they popped off. After they detached, his ascent was unhindered. "What is going on!? Hey! Help!" "Quiet you," came a soft voice from the ceiling. This silenced Shan as he looked upward toward the sound of the voice. It wasn't a fruitful move. "Okay, um, hello, Spider...Person...Lady? Hi, um, I'm a bard, and in case you don't know what that is, that's a type of human that gets everywhere and is just filthy. I'm serious. I don't know where I've been. Very nasty, very scrawny and tough, utterly disgusting. Really, it's best to just throw me away and wait for a nice...bear? Yes! A nice big bear! They live in caves. Doesn't that sound good, a fat bear? But you'll never catch it with me here, so...how about letting me go?" Edited by Shan Orison, Thu Aug 11, 2011 2:38 am.

The person wasn't being quiet. Evals sighed and stuck the piece of webbing to the ceiling. She moved her hands around the rest of his body, proceeding to cover it with webbing. Leaving only his head exposed, mostly because he was still talking. He was very silly for someone that probably assumed they were in a life or death situation. "You're a funny man." She giggled at him with a small smile. After that, Evals dropped down from the ceiling and landed on her feet. She walked over to her lantern and with a match from her belt she lit it back up. She held it up to give proper lighting to the tunnel and they could see each other clearly. "First off, I'm not going to eat you. Secondly, I shouldn't even have to kill you if you cooperate." She said, sounding completely calm about the situation at hand, then again she wasn't the one tied to the ceiling in large amounts of spider web. |

Shan tried not to say anything about his captor's appearance. She looked...dead. That's what came to mind. He could tell by the blank eyes, and having seen a lot of dead people in his time. She'd wrapped him entirely in webbing like a trapped fly, which again was snug and cozy except for the fact that he was completely immobile, which steals a lot of enjoyment from the experience. All of it, really. The fact that this creepy child was not planning to kill him was, however, good news. "Cooperate? Alright, um, well, you really aren't allowing a lot of room for negotiation here, are you? Well, um..." Exactly what choice do you have? his second thoughts said. She doesn't even have to actively kill you; she can just leave you hanging, pun intended. "Considering what I have to gain from this partnership, why not? I mean, I'm not happy with how my life is going right now. I'd like it to go in a new direction, or any direction. So...I'm Shan. Hello." |

Evals nodded her head cheerfully. "No negotiations at all!" Her voice was nice and had an almost playful tone to it. She stuck the lantern to a low hanging web and let it hang in the air haphazardly as she looked into her utility belt, because she's batman and all that jazz. She pulled out two small objects, this would due for the exchange she would have to make. "I'm Emily, pleasure to meet you." She said and looked at the objects in her hand. She held up two small balls in wrappers, they looked like candy. One was pink, the other was purple. "Pink candy or purple candy. Which do you want?" She asked with that playful tone still in her voice. Yet it was riddled with curiousity. Which would he pick? |

Shan swayed gently, looking down at the proffered candy. He couldn't imagine a strange girl putting up spider webs in empty tunnels to offer whatever passersby she caught sweets. That was just overly elaborate. So what was it, poison? Probably not, since she could slice his exposed throat far more easily. Paralyzing agent? Again, a rather pointless thing to give him. Some sort of strange elixer distilled into sugar that will change your gender and shrink you to doll size?! Paranoia, his common sense said. That is just ridiculous. No no! She's a little girl! She's going to turn you into one of her dolls and dress you up and make you attend imaginary tea parties with no tea- Paranoia, please, sit down and be quiet. Shan pulled himself from his mind to focus on the matter at hand. "You know, I'm not really that hungry. I just ate a little bit ago, and yeah I have to choose one, huh? Part of the "no negotiations" thing. Fine, um, I'd choose pink, but my hands are tied, so, I can't eat your undoubtedly delicious candy. If you could just loosen this up a bit, we'll be in business." "Yup, no negotiations." She said and thought about letting one of his arms out. She could just give it to him but she did want him to trust her... could she trust him? He seemed like a ordinary man no matter how much she looked at him. She climbed up the walls on her webbing again and now stood upside down on the ceiling and looked over Shan's body. Her hair was falling straight down, if she was a bit taller it'd be close to the floor. The zombie bent her knees so she was crouching upside down and looking Shan directly in the face. From only a few inches away. Her face was deadpan and she merely inspected him for a moment. She used her clawed fingers to cut opening the webbing and release one of his arms. She pushed the pink candy into his hand, unwrapped now. It was the one that would shrink him to one sixth of his original size for every lick he took. "Go ahead. I'll make sure no bears eat you while you have the candy." |

With one arm free, Shan contemplated if he could slip out the rest of the way and run. Run where? his second thoughts said. The floor beneath you is covered in webbing still, and even if you dodged that in your uncontrolled fall, you'd have to navigate these tunnels in the dark and without a map. You could grab your torch and try to relight it, giving ample time for Spider Child here to kill you. Even if it does do what Paranoia says, WHICH IS SILLY PARANOIA BE SILENT, it'll be best to just eat the candy. Shan stared Emily dead in the face and popped the candy in his mouth. It didn't taste poisonous, though he hadn't eaten a lot of poison to consider himself a connoisseur. It had an indistinct sweet, fruity flavor, but that was all he could detect. He just let it sit there, not chewing or swallowing. "Mmmm," Shan said. She must have been satisfied, because the bonds around him were loosening. Not that it increased his chances of getting away, as he had pointed out to himself, but that meant he had more options open, whatever they were... Was Emily growing? His stomach fell as he realized what was happening. He spat out the candy, but whatever damage it inflicted continued to work on him. His cocoon and Emily didn't do anything. He however, kept shrinking and shrinking until he was, well...doll sized. I KNEW IT!!! His common sense sighed. We are never going to hear the end of this. |

Evals watched as the threading around Shan became loose. Wait, he was getting too small. This was bad, the method wasn't working! It was too late though, he was already too small. The zombie started to compile a list of ways to reverse this but sighed. He was too small to eat the purple candy now and her plan was ruined. She would have to go through another solution. Reaching into the cocoon of webbing, she plucked the doll sized Shan out and held him closed in her hand. He was byte sized, surely he would object strongly to this, not like he had a choice though..Her made was forever covered in metal from her gauntlets, so it probably wouldn't be the warmest or the most comfortable prison. She was still upside down on the ceiling and held Shan level with herself, making him upside down in the process. "Well, that didn't go as well as I planned. No worries, you'll be fine living as a char for the rest of your live." Evals said and thought back over her actions, and wow those were some terrible programming puns. |

Finding himself only a foot tall was rather awkward, Shan thought. Being a foot tall and held by a creepy, possibly malevolent, probably undead child was very awkward. Having all this happen and being upside-down to boot needed a new adjective. "Um, so your magic shrinking candy wasn't supposed to make me this size?" May be the best time to be as cooperative as possible. Try to find out what she wants, offer vague, semi-helpful suggestions -GODSDAMMIT PARANOIA! Her plan IS NOT to make living dolls. She just said the size was a mistake! No, that doesn't mean she's going to throw a tealess tea party now. What is your obsession with that about anyway? Shan stayed silent and watched his reflection in Emily's giant, blank eyes. So, yes, talking nice to her for now would be best. his second thoughts finally concluded. Also, hope she has a way to reverse this. Playing the world's smallest violin is a novelty act, but not a great long term career. "Well, um, not sure what you were planning there, but maybe if I knew what it was, I could help you out. You know, two heads are better than one. Also, this isn't permanent, right? And, as a final question, could you not hold me upside-down? I see you have no problems with this, but the blood's rushing to my head, and that's not pleasant." |

Evals shook her head lightly. "Nope, I was hoping you'd end up Dwarf sized." She said, not really sure how the stoutness would work for him. This was a horrible idea, why didn't she just use him as a Human! Could've worked, not as well as a Dwarf or a giant but she could've figured it out. Wow Shan talked a lot, the zombie girl decided to jump down from the ceiling where she landed on her feet again. "Okay, explanation time!" She said as she grabbed her lantern and and started to walk down the tunnel again. "I was going to use you in what may be considered a hostage exchange or a black market slave trade. Someone that I have to rescue is being held by Dark Elves and I set up a meeting to trade with them since they want something for just letting this guy go. So then you came along so I was going to use you. As for if the candy is going to wear off, I have no idea! First time I've used it." Evals explained, sounding cheerful. She could make the best out of this situation. They'd probably let her into the area just to laugh at her if she brought something at least. |

"Um, there was a plan to extract me after you get your friend right?" Shan asked. He doubted it, but it never hurt to ask. In truth, the idea of going to the Dark Elf city and seeing it first hand rather fascinated him. The whole sold as a slave thing was a downside, but to see the heart of Drow civilization would be amazing. "Um, besides the potency of your magic candy, though, there are some flaws. I mean even if I'm the same size as them, there's no way I could be confused for a dwarf or giant. I mean, I am definitely not proportioned like either, and it definitely won't work for dwarf unless you have some magical beard candy....Um..." He realized how negative this all was. "But I'm sure if we put our heads together we can think of a way to save your friend." Shan thought a bit more. "Also, since the magic was bound in the candy, there's a possibility that it'll wear off in a few hours as my body breaks down the sugar or something. Either that or I am stuck like this forever. I'm hoping for the former. "Is there any chance you can put me down somewhere? It's not like I can run fast." Edited by Shan Orison, Sat Aug 13, 2011 1:33 am.
