Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Evals stood around, half relaxed as the battle continued on. It looks like the warriors that had joined them didn't have the weapons to deal with this lion. Either way, they were making glorious fodder and might be able to do something to the metal monster while it was in it's rusted state. Shifting her balance from one foot to the other, a smile of amusement came onto her face as Rin once again took the battle into her own hands. Saving one of the men in the process as well.

From the impact, Evals put her free hand to the side of her head. Sound still penetrating her vulnerable ear. That was loud, thundering weapons weren't fun to fight alongside. She sheathed her rapier. "That sounds like a tag out to me." The Undead child said before she disappeared from her spot next to one of the warriors that had retreated a few steps. Much to surprise of the few people that had her in their line of sight. Only to be a bit more shocking when she appeared again, only a mere foot away from the beast.

Within moments of reappearing, the girl brought her fist into a pull punch in the lion's face. The impact was accompanied by another. The metal fists and strength of the zombie making heavy dents and crushes in the lion's facial structure. A third hit knocked a piece of it's jaw off before a metal claw came up and sliced into her arm, sundering it into a broken mess. The girl backed off a few feet with a jump and looked at her arm. It would mend itself, yet it still looked pretty bad. Only old skin and muscles were holding it together now. The Mechanical Lion didn't take this as a break time though.

Rin's eyes reflected the light of the electricity wrapped around her fist as she stared at the contraption. The more she saw of the creature, the more sure she was that it had been created by the Tinkerer. The rogue page was a powerful entity, capable of crafting objects that defied all the laws of Imythess with no trace. Even though she could sense inherent wrongness of the mechanical lion like a bad taste in the back of her throat, the girl knew that no trained archmage or sorcerer would detect the source of its power. The Grimoire's abilities to warp reality when far beyond the reaches of magic, making it much more unpredictable and dangerous. Her assault with the enchanted muscles had left a deep dent in its metallic back, an injury that was healing more gradually than their earlier attempts. She wasn't sure what was dampening its regenerative abilities, but the construct was glad for the change. It would be easier to tear the creature apart without its healing properties.

Evals surprised her by simply disappearing, flashing to the lion's side in the blink of an eye. The strange girl slammed her hand into the lion's features, the blow accompanied by the shriek of metal and the feline's roar of indignation. She managed to literally punch off a portion of its lower jaw before the creature retaliated, golden claws carving through her flesh. When Evals jumped backwards Rin gasped in surprise; the limb had been ripped all the way through so that only a few scant inches of skin, tendons, and muscles were keeping it attached to her main body. Although this girl had demonstrated recuperative abilities that were on par with the lion's, Rin knew that the injury would render her helpless for a little while at least. That would probably be enough time for the lion to rip her head from her neck.

The construct growled and shot forward, her empty hand closing around the lion's tail just underneath the spiked ball. It started to lunge towards Evals, but the girl shouted out in order to distract it. The mechanical creature tried to rip the appendage out from the girl's grip, but she held on determinedly, not even wincing as she was jerked off her feet and slammed into the feline's flank. With a shout she bought her right hand forward, slamming the enchanted knuckles against the base of the creature's tail. Vajra was the weapon belonging to the deity Vajrasatta, a weapon that could be only be damaged by itself and struck its wielder's foes with the strength and power of a thunderbolt. In her hands, it was significantly weaker, but it was still more than strong enough to shatter the lion's tail. The blow was accompanied by another deafening crack that sent the would-be-heroes sprawling, their hands clamped down on their ears.

Rin did not spare a second thought for the men, instead backpedaling to get out of the lion's range, its sundered appendage dangling from her left hand. A backwards kick from the beast caught her thigh, digging bloody furrows in the limb and sending her flying backwards. When she finally rolled to a halt there was a victorious smile plastered on her face. She stood up quickly, wincing slightly at the pain of the injury. Still, she had managed to rip away the lion's tail. "Get rid of its ability to fight! Then we can finally see how to kill it!" There was an odd, gleeful edge to her voice that was made disturbing by the wide smile on her face. A watcher would have to be blind to not notice that Rin was enjoying this fight.

Evals prepared herself to take another hit before Rin saved her, well it looks like they were starting to work a bit better together and not getting each other disarmed or their skulls crushed anymore. With another loud crack of thunder, the tail was damaged and removed. Then the lion, disarmed, or distailed, or another lethal weapon was free again. The zombie didn't seem to have the time to heal. Grabbing her arm that was dangling, she ripped it free of the few remaining pieces of skin. "Hold this." She demanded of the closest knight who was about to charge.

The girl ran forward and threw a metal punch at the lion again. Distracted at first from losing it's tail, it took a hit in the shoulder. Of course besides from a dent it didn't do much. After a moment, another one of the knights hit it in it's center with a mace. Slamming through the rusted metal. Now there was a large gap in it. Not giving much mind to the two attacks, the mechanical beast lunged forward to a piece of itself on the ground. As if picking it up with it's mouth, the lion reattached it's lower jaw before getting in a stance to lunge at the next person to get too close to it. "That's cheating." Evals pointed out, not taking the supposed dread of it just fixing itself still seriously. "I mean I didn't fix my arm!"

Rin limped forward a few feet on her lacerated leg, wincing slightly at the flash of pain from the injury. Every step she took with her left leg left a bloody footprint on the cobbles, but the girl had other issues that concerned her more at the moment. For example, Evals had ripped off her own arm and handed it to one of the male vigilantes. Although the construct had already witnessed the odd girl's healing powers first-hand, she still felt uneasy about any being showing such blatant disregard for their physical form. It is like she feels no attachment to her body at all... As if she is incapable of feeling pain. Who is this girl? Rin understood that a stranger witnessing this battle would probably be asking the same question about her. After all, the construct had summoned multiple devastating weapons out of thin air, but the girl didn't even realize that such an ability was unusual. It was simply a skill she had been born with.

The construct watched as her companion rushed forward and punched the beast again, but this time the machine was significantly less damaged in the assault. In fact, it seemed to ignore the attack entirely, instead bounding over to its severed jaw and touching its metallic flesh to the sundered fragment. The jaw reformed almost instantly, healing before their eyes. Rin shook her head in annoyance, tightening her grip on the golden knuckles. The weapon seemed almost entirely useless against the mechanical contraption, but she had very few options left to her. Carnwennan was too short of a blade to use effectively against the beast, and she had previously learned how useless Excalibur was against the Tinkerer's creations.

Rin sprinted towards the beast, her eyes and expression determined. At the last instant she threw herself forward, rolling under the lion's flashing paw and sliding underneath its form. The girl slammed her fist upwards into the center of the machine's torso, lightning flashing and another deafening crash sounding as she thrust her fist against its metallic skin... And blasted straight through its flesh, her arm sinking into its body up to the elbow. Rin's triumphant cry was cut off when its metallic skin began to heal, reforming the contraption's body flush against her skin. Within instants her limb had been firmly entrenched in the lion's body, completely immobile and not allowing her to escape. The construct wrapped her free arm and legs around the lion's body in order to avoid its flashing claws, grimacing and trying to pull her arm out of its chest. She had pierced the place where a flesh-and-bone animal's heart would be, but this contraption apparently lacked that weakness. "I don't suppose you could find a way to get me out of this thing?"

Evals glanced at Rin as she went to attack the lion. Taking a little break from the combat, Evals held out her remaining hand at the man she had given her arm to. Using her telekinesis she forced it out of his hands and it flew into into hers. After spinning it around a little, finding the correct position it should be in she placed it against the remainders of her ripped arm and allowed the skin to start to fix itself. Only now taking the time to turn back to the battle as Rin made some kind of request.

"Well that looks like a sticky situation." Evals commented, though it did hinder the Lion's movements by a little bit, if not more. Plus it was much more focused on Rin than anyone else. Well, looks like something had to be done about it. The zombie strolled forward while casting a spell in her head. A spell that would give her much more strength, the Strength of Dragons.

Even though the Lion was distracted it knew that the undead child was approaching and took a swing with it's claws at the girl. Deciding against the usually disregard for taking hits, Evals caught the swipe with her hand and pulled the mechanical beast towards her. It might drag Rin on the ground a little bit, but it should be all good. Evals put her foot up to stop the beast's unwanted movement. She continued to pull on it's arm while pushing against it's head, eventually ripping the arm right off.

The construct bit her lip in annoyance as the lion was dragged forward, scraping her back along the ground. Her ire was not directed at Evals specifically, but rather at the situation she found herself stuck in. She heard a screeching noise as the zombie-girl ripped one of the lion's limbs away, making the mechanical beast stagger in an attempt to keep its balance. The girl reached up with one hand, wrapping her fingers tightly around the hilt of Laevateinn. The massive greatsword was still stuck in the lion's body, its flames having died out as soon as she released the weapon. She quickly yelled out the incantation that would activate its more potent ability, giving the words a sing-song inflection. "World of men, crumble and break, for Surtr's footsteps make the very earth quake!"

There was no initial response from the sword besides the runes on its length beginning to glow. All of that changed in an instant when a massive gout of flame burst from its surface, the heat forcing Rin to turn away and shut her eyes. The lion howled as the fire melted its internal components, globs of molten gold spattering the ground. The girl felt its innards shift from the attack and yanked on her arm again, freeing her limb in a spray of small gears and sundered wires. She grabbed onto Laevateinn with both hands not, directing the blade so it continued to point towards the lion. Fire poured from its surface, great columns of flame that stretched in to the night sky. The roaring noise overpowered even the piteous cries from the mechanical animal as it was torn to pieces, plates of golden metal flying in every direction.

Once the fire storm was over Rin rose to her feet, coughing from the smoke. The street surrounding her had been charred black, and a few of the nearby rooftops had flames dancing along the shingles. She did not seem to mind, simply staring at the wreckage of the golden lion scattered across the street. Its head was still mainly intact, but the rest of its body had been split into numerous pieces, most of them them too small to identify. She jumped back in shock as its decapitated head roared at her, metallic teeth gnashing together in apparent rage. Still, it was unable to move without any limbs to speak of, and Rin smiled in victory. Only then did she look for Evals to see how her companion had managed the true power of Surtr's favored weapon. "Evals? Are you alright?"

Before Evals could move in to attack the lion once more, Rin had grabbed her protruding sword and started to chant something. Easily recognisable as a spell, probably one within the sword. The zombie's main response was to start a spell of her own as well as empowering it. Only moments after the fire and heat started to pour out of the weapon did a blue shield of energy form in front of Evals. She also crossed her arms in front of her body as if it would do anything for protection. The brunt of the blast wasn't directly at her but quite a bit of fire would have burnt her up had it not been for her magical shield.

Soon after the fire was gone, Evals dropped her protection and looked around. Molten gold and pieces were scattered everywhere. The street was charred and fire was still burning in some parts of the area. "Just dandy." The zombie replied brushing herself off of loose dirt and some lion pieces that had been blasted around. She walked over to the lion's head and picked it up. Examining it. "I suppose this is going to be evidence enough for the reward, hopefully."

The construct grinned sheepishly at Evals' tone, knowing the subtle reprimand was probably deserved. She would have been miffed if the zombie girl had almost incinerated her in a gout of flames as well, but it seems like it had all worked out for the best. Plus, Rin knew that even if she had struck the other girl with her spell she would have healed the damage within minutes, so it was difficult to feel sorry for her. The girl skipped over to Evals, watching the undead child pick up the decapitated head of the lion, careful to avoid its flashing teeth. The construct pursed her lips, leaning down to stare at the open neck of the mechanical creature. It should have stopped functioning if it had been severed from its source of power, which suggested whatever fraction of the Grimoire's power that was contained within the beast was somewhere in its skull. "Here, hold it up so I can see down its throat..."

With her new vantage point Rin could see that there was a fist-sized ruby in the lion's head, positioned near where an actual animal's tonsils would go. She grinned and thrust her hands into the skull, wrapping her fingers around the gem. She yanked it out of the lion with a quick wrench, tearing away the wires and gears that had connected the jewel to the machine. It instantly stopped moving, jaws locked open in an eternal scream of apparent pain. Rin tossed the large gem between her hands, her smile growing wider as she felt it. There was no doubt in her mind that this jewel was actually one of the pages of the Grand Grimoire, its shape changed in order to focus its strength into a source of power for the construct. "You can have the reward! I'll keep this stone! It's pretty!"

The girl closed her eyes, focusing on her latent ability to tap into the all-knowing tome's powers. She clenched the ruby in both hands, slowly exerting more force on the jewel. Despite all apparent laws of the physical world, seemed to be able to compress the ruby, slowly bringing her hands together until no trace of the precious stone remained. When she unfolded her hands there was no trace of it, simply a doled up piece of parchment. Rin giggled and unfolded it happily, her blue eyes shining with victory. The piece of paper glowed with an inner light, the words on its pages constantly rearranging themselves with the letters rapidly flickering between different alphabets. It was a confusing image, but the girl did not seem to mind the flurry of motion. She matter-of-factly rolled the page into a tight cylinder and slipped it into the ribbons on her arm, looking over at Evals again. "Or you could mount the head on your wagon! It's quite impressive."
