Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

An Oath under a Bet; [p] Lucifer

Lucifer followed behind Lyvian, the umbrella that rested upon his shoulder spinning at a steady pace between his fingers. The area was a bit less appealing than the one that the devil had nearly been decapitated at, but it was indeed a good place for the girl, Lyvian, to get a bit more comfortable. Lu found that having somebody ease up around you was a good way to gain their trust, to make them easier to manipulate and to string along with whatever one might wish. It was a practiced and true strategy, one that he quite possibly would never abandon, as it often proved to be the most preferred strategy, less chance of any pointless conflict, more chance of having a potential ally in case things ever went wrong. As long as somebody could not sense the raw and pure evil that was the devil, they could go years, easily, without ever knowing of the truth about this man who claimed to be the devil, himself.

The devil watched closely to each of her movements, to the glorious wings that spread out. It reminded him of those pictures that people drew, the idealism of angels being these beautiful creatures with grand wings capable of flight. Lucifer had seen... no, he had been a much differant sort from that idea. A completely differant image existed for him as the baseline fact of what an angel was, of what sort of power they held, and just how limited their numbers were to balance out their sheer power. Such things led to him being cast down, forbidden from ever returning to the heavens and in turn leaving him with full reign over the depths of Hell, themselves. However, he held no grudge to this, he foudn the trade-off to have been a rather good thing, one that allowed him a freedom not permitted to the true angels.

And then, Lucifer saw it from Lyvian... He watched as she healed the wonud upon her shoulder with ease. She was a healer, a truly... useful sort of creature. The devil tilted his umbrella forward for a moment to hide hias face from her gaze, a wicked sort of grin stretching its way across his face for the single moment of which it was permitted to exist. He had found how she was useful... And he was of course going to exploit such a thing. In a world like Chaon, were so much of his power was barred from him, he could easily find use for a healer to be contracted to him for the duration of his stay on the world... However, the tricky part would be to figure out just how he would go about doing such a thing. She possibly knew that he had claimed to be the devil, himself.

After that single moment of so much thought had passed, his rainbow-colored umbrella tilted back to reveal a warm sort of smile as he processed her question for a moment.

"Not all people are so willing to take favors for such an excursion. As you might know, Gryphons can be prone to being somewhat ornery creatures. So, as such, I offered him a deal... Well..." Lu paused, shrugging a bit, "More of a bet, really. With a contract to seal it. He signed the contract, he lost the bet and as such was legally obligated to aiding me in the search for a Gryphon."

He paused for just a second, an idea springing to mind. "If you want, I could show you what I mean by that."

She nodded in agreement to what he said about Gryphons being ornery creatures. “I’ve been on the search for one, myself. Hence, why I’m in the Plains.” She still couldn’t help but wonder why the man had suddenly wanted to rebel against the contract, even if the man had just found out about Gryphons being stubborn, bad-tempered creatures. She didn’t understand what harm there would be in helping somebody find a Gryphon. She just thought that was really silly of the man to act that way. Finding the creature was one thing, but going near it and trying to capture or befriend it was something very different.

When he offered to show her what he meant by that, she took a step back, and said “No, that’s alright.” She shook her head, reminding herself of what she had heard him say earlier. “I’m not that curious.” She smiled, laughing a little bit to try to relax again. “I’d be willing to help you find a Gryphon, but I do not see the need in signing a contract for it. I definitely will not try to lop your head off, or change my mind for any reason. It can’t be that hard to find a Gryphon, especially if you’ve got two pairs of eyes instead of just one.” She said, spreading her wings out again, obviously enjoying the time that she had while it lasted, out in the open. It actually wasn’t very often that she found enough open space to go dancing around with her wings spread. So, she’d enjoy it while she could.

Now, she couldn’t help but wonder why he even wanted to show her what he had meant. He had explained it well enough for her satisfaction, and the thoughts in the bad of her mind were yelling at her, saying No! Bad idea! That voice in the back of her mind always seemed to be the right choice. One time, she had gone against that voice, and ended up having somebody trying to punish her for having nothing against any sort of creature, magic, wild or domesticated. So she had learned her lesson, and would never again doubt that voice. She just hoped that Lucifer here wouldn’t get upset about her answer. Mostly likely, that would just lead to more conflict for her to avoid.

Hm, it seemed that indeed this girl, Lyvian, had heard him claim that he was the devil, and the terriroty and woes of signing a contract with him, a good instinct she seemed to have and one which he was already planning to trick and slip by to contract her, though it may take a bit of work and trust building, Lu had the utmost confidence in his own abilities. After all, he was called the Father of Lies, he couldn't simply allow such a thing to become a meaningless title, now could he? No, he would be sure to live up to each syllable of that name given to him by fear of the mortal beings who could so easily be trapped by the silver-tongued devil.

"Ah, okay." The devil smiled it away with a slight shrug, his dark mind already working and plotting, wondering just how he might go about getting her to sign with him without entirely shattering any potential she might hold while being bound to him by word of blood, itself. It would surely be a tricky experience, but Lucifer almost always loved to accept a challenge when the situation called for it, this would simply be another of those, to gain her trust or have her in such a situation that she would need to contract with him, and to simply add to the excitement and challenge of it, the devil had decided that he would do it before the moon sat where the sun currently did. His brown eyes dropped for a moment to look at the shadow cast by the sun, to tell what time it was, which signaled that his own challenge would have until midnight, midnight until he would be able to have a healer under his control and call, a truly wonderous thing to have in a world so clearly untrustworthy as Chaon.

"Well, surely. Though I do worry that they might not show up so close to here with all of the people wandering about." The devil said with a slight bit of concern to his voice, stopping for just a moment as he looked over his shoulder to the crying of a familiar voice, the voice of the guide.. It seemed that the man had believed the devil's compnion to be weaker than Lu... but given the hallucination put upon Ornias, that simply meant that the blade passed through the form before the man very possibly lost the ability to ever conceive children. It was a painful thought which caused even Old Scratch to seethe a bit at the idea.

"It would seem... that the guide has just lost both his ability to move as well as his ability to ever have children again..." Lucifer said quite clearly, bringing a fist lightly in front of his mouth, breathing into it just a bit, truly feeling all of a second of concern, literally a second. As he could only imagine, a strike from Ornias would yield that no amount of magic would ever truly be able to heal that man's plight... A truly, truly unfortunate circumstance.

Lyvian had decided that she would be extra careful now around him. She had a feeling that Lu wanted to contract her for some reason, and she’d see to it that it doesn’t happen. It was nice to have some company for once, but this company turned out to be very dangerous. She just couldn’t figure out what his reasoning was for wanting to contract her. The only thing she could do was heal, and a tall man like him didn’t seem like he’d need any healing. At least, not right now.

“Well, in that case, all you have to do is walk where the people aren’t.” She shrugged her shoulders as she folded her wings up again, though this time they were folded in a relaxed fashion. Instead of being folded tight against her body like they were earlier, they were now opened a little bit, moving with whatever movement she made. “I’m sure you could take care of yourself, Lu. Gryphons can’t possibly frighten you.” She smiled a little bit, as if wondering why he was so keen on staying around where the people are.

The crying voice was audible to her ears as well, but she couldn’t quite place who it was. She had only seen them talking today, and it usually took her a memorable moment for her to ever remember somebody by their voice. It took her even longer if that particular person was able to change the sound of their voice. She wasn’t sure what he meant by ‘the guide’. Perhaps he meant it was the man that was supposed to be helping him find a Gryphon? Or, perhaps it was the other man? She’d find out soon enough, she was sure. She didn’t really want to keep asking questions. She had asked enough as it was. She kind of just wanted to get away from him now...

“Again?” she couldn’t help but repeat his words. “Where are his children, then?” she asked, truly concerned about whether his children were involved in such mayhem that he was involved in. She believed that no child should ever have to see such terrible things. That’s what made some of these people so... untrustworthy and... and just plain mean.

While the Devil was facing the other way, Lyvian stepped away as far as she could and as quietly as she could before he turned back around. She seemed to have forgotten his ability to jump across distances like he had earlier when he first said hello. Right now, she was just thinking about having a head start if he were to try to make her stay. She didn’t want to be rude, but at the same time, she did not want to get into any unwanted trouble. She was enjoying her time just fine without having somebody stick around her.

She was starting to think that she was just paranoid, though. He seemed really nice, and he hasn’t actually done anything to make her so untrusting of him. She figured that it was mainly her desire to avoid conflict that made her wanting to back away. That voice in the back of her head kept telling her to get away. However, if he was to run at her, she didn’t think she’d be able to move at all, because her muscles tended to freeze up when fear filled her up.

Lucifer paused for a moment, a shrug coming about his shoulders seeing as how he didn't really care about the fate of the guide's balls or ability to walk, since it was so clearly obvious that the man had fully intended to do little more than try and find a way out of his assigned contract, anyway. Perhaps he truly was an idiot to think for even a moment that Lu had not been onto his plan since the beginning, to pick a time when so many people would be out and about, or such as keeping as close to them as possible to make sure that there would be no gryphons seen so that the devil may simply void the contract. However, Morningstar was not one to easily forget such a contract, nor would he allow it to go. Even if he did manage to actually live up to his end of the bargain and find a gryphon that was utterly trainable and loyal to only the devil, it wasn't like that was merely going to be the end of it, since Lucifer had been sure to work in a good deal of fine print that might forever bind the poor bastard to him.

The devil paused for just a moment, taking notice of the clearly grown distance between him and Lyvian, she seemed to be growing a slight bit more worried with each passing moment. However, he chose the better route, rather than approaching her or making mention to this fact, finding it would do little more than worsen the situation, he had encountered events like this before, after all, so he knew quite well how to deal with it, how to handle an apparently delicate situation such as this... He chose to absolutely and utterly ignore it, instead acting as if nothing had actually happened and instead spinning his umbrella around, just a bit, as it rested upon his shoulder, the rainbow colored top shifting through its colors with ease.

"Well, he has two children back in Kellan. An older boy, almost ten, and a girl who is still but a little thing, a toddler. I hope they won't be disappointed that they won't have a third sibling to the mix... And I sure hope that his wife doesn't mind the inability to perform that will surely arise from such a thing happening.” Lu said, a sliht cringe to his expression as he reimagined the sheer agony that the man must have been going through, though he did hide a smell with extreme proficiency beneath the surface, something that wouldn’t even flash for a moment, Lu was careful about revealing such things, especially when gaining the trust of somebody who was already so clearly wary of him.

If only the devil had known about the voice in the back of Lyvian’s head, he would have been sure to reach in and silence it until he was finished contracting the healer girl. However, it was a shame that he did not know of such a thing, and that he had no clear way just yet to convincing her to contract with him, but he had a good feeling that he would meet his deadline, perhaps it would happen sooner than he thought, perhaps it would happen at the very last second before the challenge that he had set forth for himself had expired, only time could truly tell and with each moment time was running out. However, he had been sure to learn quite long ago that rushing things was not always the quickest solution. Instead, taking things a bit slower seemed to yield results far quicker.

“You seem to already know more about gryphons than my guide... I hope it would not be any imposition to ask but...” Lucifer paused for a moment, as if trying to force the words past his lips, though in truth they would pass with almost inexplicable ease, he wanted to sell this ideal as quickly as he possibly could that he was somebody who could genuinely be trusted, that simply prefferd to contract things so that nothing could be refuted and everything could be agreed upon before-hand, “Would you mind replacing him as our guide? Besides, I think he might prefer to head home by this point.” Of course, it would not be the last that the man ever saw of Lucifer.

When he started talking about the children, she stopped walking away and stood still. She felt a bit more comfortable with this greater distance, but she was very surprised about how calm he was when he saw that she had stepped further away from him. Anyone else probably would have gotten a little upset. After all, all they were doing was having a nice chat. It’s not like they were arguing nor having some sort of disagreement and getting upset with each other. As far as she knew, only couples argued, and they were certainly not a couple.

It wasn’t long after that that he asked about her replacing the guide. It was true that she knew a lot about Gryphons, only because she had been researching them for a while because she also wanted a Gryphon companion. She wasn’t about to go gallivanting into Gryphon territory without knowing anything about them. That would just be foolish. If there was one thing she understood about Gryphons, it’s that you never walk up to them with too much confidence. She had learned that they were extremely respectful creatures despite their size.

“I’ve been researching them for a while.” She told him, “I’m actually looking for one myself.” When he asked if she’d like to replace the guide, she wasn’t entirely sure how to answer. She partly opened her mouth to say something, but then stopped herself as she had to think about it a bit more. The question didn’t seem to be harmful, but she did not want to slip into a contract. “Perhaps you’d be willing to be my guide?” she asked, “I don’t see the harm in two people simply travelling together.” She said, not sure if he’d go for it. He seemed pretty hung up on those contracts.

A light and warm smile spread its way across the width of Lu's face to Lyvian's answer, though the true emotion was hidden beneath the surface, hidden away from sight of the girl. It was exactly the answer of which the devil was hoping to get, a good plan to gain her trust... It really was turning into little more than a game for him with a grand reward at the end for when he succeeded, for when he finally contracted the healer to keep on retainer. Too many people hunted him, and as he awaited for his powers to return in full, even upon the face of this world, the devil knew very well that it would be dangerous to go on without her under his written bindings. Of course, the fact that she seemed to be so clearly wary, to distance herself, to think her words over, it simply did little more than add a level of excitement to his game, to his fun and entertainment. Though, even as he plotted out his next move, Lu focused mainly on her dress, a little too reserved for his tastes, he would be sure to get her to a tailor for some custom and high-quality clothing. After all, the devil couldn't be seen walking around with people that were dressed as common-folk, even Ornias was dressed in a high-quality fabric.

"It seems like a good compromise would be for you to guide me as well as I guide you." He offered with a happy tone to his voice, and the fact that she had been researching gryphons only aided the factual thought that in the short-term she could be of use to him, though at the same time the devil had high doubts that they would find a gryphon suitable for his needs on this day, such a search would take time, and for a being eternal such as himself, time meant little. While he did like to get things as he wanted them, he learned the values of being patient, of playing the cards just right so that he could win what he wanted and always walk away with what he needed. Again, a healer was something needed in this world.

"All I would need to do is inform my companion, the other fellow who was travelling with me besides the guide, Ornias, that I would be fine without him..." Lucifer paused, giving a glance over to the crowd of people still walking along, figuring that Ornias was probably standing tall over the fallen guide with a wicked grin on his face. Oh, how Ornias never saw the need to hide who he was or what he truly felt, but Lucifer saw such a thing as yet another game to play. And with this thought having passed, Morningstar acted as if he had just come across a good idea, though he had formulated it moments earlier and he quickly brought his attention back to Lyvian, "Do you wish to accompany me? It could make our search start a bit sooner for a gryphon."

Lyvian couldn’t help but smile back when she saw Lu smile. As insane as it sounded to her, she actually found his smile to be quite appealing. Some would say attractive, but she wasn’t actually attracted to him. She just thought that he had a nice smile... people can think people have nice smiles without being attracted, right? She pushed away the thoughts, and put her attention back to the current situation. She didn’t want to get distracted, and leave a wide open door for the Devil to do as he pleased with her. That was definitely not on her to do list.

She had never even thought about upgrading her clothing. She was comfortable with her dress, and that was that. Lyvian got it replaced when it became too worn, but otherwise this was mainly what she wore. She had tried pants and a shirt before, but she thought she looked too much like a guy; too much like a tomboy, and that simply was not her style. If she ever saved up for it, she would definitely go for a more elegant and sophisticated dress that brought out her grey eyes. Maybe, like a blue dress with grey accents or vice versa. She had never gone dress shopping before, so she wouldn’t know what was even available. She was sure they’d be expensive though...

Perhaps it was just his level of kindness, but Lyvian didn’t hesitate to nod in agreement when he confirmed his understanding of what she was saying. That sounded about right to her, that she would be a guide for him while he’s a guide for her. She didn’t find any fault in that. There was finally no mention of a contract, which was good.

“Okay, that’s fine.” Lyvian smiled, spreading her wings out just to feel the wind flow over and under them. She didn’t take flight or anything; she was just letting her wings feel the breeze. There didn’t seem to be much wind in these plains, but when there was, it felt really nice. She looked over at Lu at the same time as he turned to look at her, and asked her if she wanted to follow along. She didn’t see anything wrong with that, if it would help them start their search sooner. “Sure, I would love to.” She answered, folding up her wings once more and catching up to him. It was the least she could do, since he had kept her company while she stretched her wings.

Things were proceeding perfectly, pieces were falling together like a puzzle to this game that Lucifer was playing, and already he was thinking up answers for questions that weren't even asked yet, ones that weren't even thought of yet and ones that might not even be asked at all. He had to plan, he had to work and he had to make sure that he was going to get this contract. He even had planned for something he was sure was going to come up sooner or later, and that was if she was to ever ask what he said to the man when the sword stopped at his throat. His lying skills would be more than needed to simply say that he had planned on paying double to the man who tried to kill him, after all: devil and double could sound quite the same when in a crowd, so no matter what a person thought they heard then the other could be insisted upon as sheer and utter fact. A good rule to lying, to take advantage of the surroundings, to put just the right amount of detail into each little thing. Everything needed to be planned out and that included his upcoming interaction with his disguised imp companion: Ornias. And with Lu carrying with him the lovely benefit of the girl being near him, to follow alongside him, he could make sure that she did not try to escape in a panic from hearing him admit to being the devil, himself! His mind setled for a moment, though it had only been riled up for less than that, a warm and friendly smile still sitting upon his face.

"If you want, you can stay beneath the umbrella's shade, with me." Lu offered before turning smoothly to faceth crowd, keeping a rather slow pace to start so that if Lycian wanted to she could easily join him as he suggested before. Whether or not that happened, whether or not she chose to, anyway, he would begin to pick up his pace to a more normal one to make his way through the crowd, his two open brown eyes searching through the crowd for the familiar shape of hsi disguised companion, who would surely be just off to the side of the road besides the pained guide from earlier.

It would only take a moment for the human-looking imp to be found and for Lu to walk up and to him, his third eye opening for just a moment so that a mirror image would flash on the opposite side of the devil away from Lyvian's sight with a finger raised to its lips before vanishing once more, a clear signal to Ornias to stay silen and that the devil was working his way to a new contract. This wasn't the first time that something like this had happened and it surely would not be the last.

"Orwell," As such was the imp's alias for these delicate situations and the imp's human-seeming form seeming to be just a foot shorter than Lu, "Lyvian and I are going to continue the search for a gryphon on our own..." Lucifer paused for a moment, a slight inhale of breath as he looked to the pained guide on the ground who refused to move, not even groaning in pain any more. "Would you please bs so kind as to escort Mr. Johnson back to his family and home? You can tell him that his contract has become null and void, I'm sure that he would appreciate that to no ends." Lu suggested, though it was just another one of his lies. One that Ornias played along with rather well, taking a low bow before moving to pick the guide from the ground and walking away into the crowd with the man. Johnson's contract wouldn't be over any time soon.

With the other two gone, Lucifer took a look back to Lyvian with a warm smile to assure her that everything was okay, "Whall we begin our search, Lyvian?"

Lyvian caught up to him easily, saying “Thank you.” and almost blushed as she stepped into the shade of his umbrella. She did her best to hide the blushing, because she didn’t actually want him thinking that she might have feelings for him. It had just been a long time since she got to walk beside another man. That brute of a werewolf that she met all those moons ago stole her heart and ran away with it. For the longest time, she didn’t think she could ever manage any sort of feelings for another man again, but with her strangely positive attitude, it seemed that she had mended herself just fine.

She walked in stride with him, easily keeping up to his pace. She didn’t say anything all the while, as she didn’t want to distract him from finding his friends. Luckily, it didn’t take them very long to meet up. Soon enough, she heard Lucifer calling out to somebody he called Orwell. She didn’t object to what he said, since it was true as far as she was aware. She looked down at the pained guide, and was about to offer to heal him when Lu asked Orwell if he could escort the man back home. Lyvian wasn’t sure if she could heal his manhood back to its original state, but she could have given it a try..... despite how awkward it would have been...

She didn’t say anything as the man picked up the guide and walked off. She looked back at Lucifer when he looked at her, and nodded in agreement. “Yes we shall, Lu.” She said, “Do you have any preferred direction?” she asked him, not sure if he had any certain direction that he was headed beforehand with the other guide. She was thinking in her head which direction she was going in the first place to find a Gryphon, but waited for Lu to make a suggestion before she said anything or asked anything else.

Lu gave a light glance down towards Lyvian, a soft smile upon his face before he lokoed back and out to their surroundings from beneath the shade of his umbrella. What he disguised as seeming to decide what direction they might go in to search for the gryphon was actually him giving a bit of time for a slight of realism, reviewing his plan once more and simultaneously counting the seconds before he would return his gaze towards Lyvian, an index finger pointing out and away from the crowd of people.

"Well, I doubt that we'll find any gryphons today if we stay near all of these people. I can't imagine that they would want to be too close to these "odd-looking" creatures while they try to go about their lives.... Though, if you want to go in a differant direction, Lyvian, I'd be more than happy to oblidge you, I'm not too picky about many thing." He said with what could easily pass for an honest and trustworthy smile, a cover for yet another one of his skillfully crafted lies, laden with this tone that one might be able to easily trust. All of this was just stepping stones towards his primary goal, towards aquiring himself the nifty tool of a healer. He could already see the end, a grand finale no matter what happened, perhaps for that dramatic effect, that rush of adrenaline in the final moment as her name would be traced out upon the paper which would bind her very soul to him, he would wait until right before the moon was at its highest point, right before the moment of midnight. It would be a tricky shot to make, but he had the absolutely most confidence in his own plans and schemes.

If the direction which Lu chose was not the one which Lyvian decided to go in, he would not care, he would simply give a light smile and go wherever she might choose. However, the primary plan which he was running within his mind at the current time plotted for them to be further away from the crowds, for her to have just a bit more trust in Lucifer. The way she was acting around him hadn't gone unnoticed, the bit of subtleties, the light blushings and how quickly she had agreed to travel with him. It was almost amazing to the devil, himself, just how skilled of a decption artist he was, for his silver tongue to work so quickly and without the slightest bit of hesitation in each thing he did, each lie that passed his lips. It was all just a fraction of what he might truly be capable of, his deception capabilities. It was all little more than a game to him, to improve his own power on this world of Chaon, to gathering those that he might need for specific tasks. Ornias had been transferred to his command, and would surely prove a valuable asset, even in situation as the imp lurked out of sight in the shadows, prepared to do whatever it was that Lucifer would signal for him to do.

The healer would surely become contracted before midnight, until then he could continue to slowly build up her trust in him... And when she would find out his truth, it would be glorious.

The direction he pointed out toward was good enough for her. It was away from the crowd, and she knew no Gryphon would come waltzing up to everyone here. That would just be extremely foolish, especially if the Gryphon didn’t know how to use its size against other people. They were not harmful beasts so long as you didn’t brush them the wrong way. Most things that people heard about them were just myths.

“I agree.” She finally said, nodding, “Let’s go that way, then, away from this crowd.” She didn’t say anything to his comment about these people being odd-looking creatures, and simply started off into the direction he gestured in. “I have a feeling that we will be very lucky to even find one Gryphon today. They never travel in packs, nor live in packs, so to find one that would mean that it will be a long while before we’ll find another one.” Since she had agreed to help Lucifer search for a Gryphon, she knew she wouldn’t be finding one for herself today. That wasn’t a problem; it was just a minor setback. Setbacks were to be expected when travelling with others, or stopping to chat, or getting distracted. A distraction alone was considered a setback. For her though, it was way too easy to get distracted or side-tracked. If somebody asked for her help, she had no choice but to help them.

She was beginning to think that it was a bad idea to have taken the Hippocratic Oath. Even though she did enjoy helping people, there were just some people in this world that were too greedy and demanding to deserve assistance. She was even beginning to see that some people were taking lives nearly every day, and to give them a quickly healed wound to help them continue their horrible deeds, would be rather unfortunate. She just really hoped that she would never have to meet anybody like that.

As they made their way out of the crowd, and into the empty plains, she constantly looked around her, looking for any signs of any one of the beasts. This was the one thing she had forgotten to research: locating the Gryphon. Although she had small ideas about looking for tracks, and seeing if she could pick up their scent, she didn’t know about any actual hiding spots, or where breeding grounds were, or any of that. She started to feel a little embarrassed, actually, that she sounded like she knew so much about these creatures, yet, she couldn’t seem to know where to look to find one. She knew they were at least in the right region of the world, but it could take days from this point to actually locate one. “So, what exactly are you up to here? Are you just here to find a Gryphon for a companion, or what?” she asked, hoping to get to know him a bit better while they were out here. At least away from the crowd, they wouldn’t have to worry about people eavesdropping.

The Devil stopped his mind for just a moment as he thought about an almost growing obsession he was having with the idea of entrapping a healer to a contract, though his face never let the warm and joyous smile leave and he walked on as if nothing were wrong. For the most part, though, there wasn’t anything wrong, nothing that couldn’t easily be fixed, however. Essentially, he needed to start his mind working again, leaving the idea for the overall goal, but not wanting to obsess over such a thing, not wanting himself to be led to making a mistake that could surely prove fatal to his plan. He needed to be careful, he needed to think things through, particularly the isolation of himself and his target from any parties of a holier alignment interrupting and besetting his plans like the inconsiderate and ultimately rude people that they quite often proved themselves to be, time after time. Why he let such people live, even he questioned himself about that each time, but for whatever reason, it was an inescapable truth. Wherever he would go, hunter of evil were sure to follow and bring about ruination and damnation to whatever plan he might be in the process of at any given time in a populated area. However, so far out and away from the main road would surely lower the chances that he would be harassed in such a manner… assuming, that is, that the gryphons were not of that classification of so many creatures that allowed them to hold the ability to naturally detect evil when it was near… being attacked by the very thing he sought to enslave would be a truly exasperating situation.

His mind snapped to attention, fully fixed and free of that obsessive thought as he looked to Lyvian, the smile fading from his face for just a moment as he pondered over what she said, looking up and out towards the plains for just a moment, his hearing void of the sounds from the road, the sun-lit grasses stretching out before his two open eyes. He was out here looking for a gryphon as a sign of power against his more dimwitted of associates, but he couldn’t just go out and say that without risking his plan, so what he needed to do, and what he quickly did, was he took a moment to pause before answering close to honestly, “I’m looking for a gryphon to be a traveling companion.” He said, simply, the light smile returning to his face as he took in a deep breath, chuckling just a moment to himself, nearly forgetting about Ornias, “Don’t get me wrong. Orwell is a good friend of mine, has been for years, but he is a working sort. I figure a gryphon companion would prove to be good company for the trips, with or without him accompanying me on the long and open roads…” He paused a moment, looking back to Lyvian with an almost mischievous and yet still light-hearted expression on his face as he shot the question back to her, “Well, I’ve answered… Now why don’t you? Why do you happen to be looking for a gryphon on this fine day, Lady Lyvian?” He inquired, though in all honesty not caring, he was skilled enough a liar to make it appear is though he did care.

Continuing to walk with him, she was thinking about what made her decide to stick around him in the first place. If she heard that he was the devil, would she not do everything in her power to avoid harm from coming to her? Would she not walk away, or cast some sort of spell to keep his evil hands away from her?

It was odd enough that they continued to talk and walk together, but now they were aiming toward a common goal together. It was a goal which involved gaining the trust of a gryphon, which in itself, was a long and tiring task. If one wished for a loyal gryphon companion, they needed to have endless patience. Perhaps that was just her view on it because she wished for a gryphon familiar, but she knew that gryphons were not easy creatures to gain trust from.

She nodded in understanding when Lou explained to her about him wanting a travelling companion. It was certainly understandable, but there were lots of animals and creatures around in the world that one could travel with. There had to be something in particular about gryphons that he was interested in, but she didn’t ask any further questions at this point in time. Answering his question was good enough for now.

“Why don’t I, right?” she smiled warmly, looking carefully out into the plains to see if she could notice any movement of odd-shaped creatures. “In all honesty, I’m looking for a familiar that can protect me. Specializing in healing, that doesn’t leave me with much room for learning defensive spells. So, after doing as much research as I could for possible animals that might meet my needs, the Gryphon is the only one that prevailed. So then I did more detailed research, and found out that there was a large concentration of them out here.” She shrugged her shoulders as she tried to think of something else to say, but when she couldn’t think of anything, she said “So here I am.”

She fell silent after that, going back to her thoughts about why she was still here. It was then that she remembered that she agreed to help him find a gryphon. She held back a sigh as she wondered why she was so nice all the time. She was sure something would come back around and punish her for it. She had always thought that karma took a large role in all of her good luck, but good luck had to run out eventually... right? She couldn’t take all the luck in the world, especially not if she decided to remain in Imythess for the remainder of her life. She had no idea how long she’d live, but she hoped to do more exploring before her days were over.

Lucifer listened to each and every word, each and every single syllable, which passed by Lyvian's lips. Her words of being a healer, so confirmed, her thoughts of wanting a gryphon for protection, so well in place. Little did she know of the contract that the devil was already forming within his mind, one that would end up as beneficial to her as it would be to him, he was a tricky sort like that, but what intrigued him most was that she was choosing a beast to be her guardian rather than a person. He chuckled slightly after a moment of silence, replaying the words in his mind real quick, she seemed to be such a sincere person, what a coincidence she would meet with one so usually insincere.

"Well, Lyvian... I suppose it's your lucky day, isn't it?" He said with a smile, looking back to her, "People keep calling me a lucky devil," The words rolled smoothly from his lips, a perfectly viable excuse for what she overheard earlier, something that could so easily be put off as a fraction of his statement lost to the sounds of the passing and chattering crowds, and far less intimidating than being the actual devil, himself, "So I'm positive that we'll find our gryphons today!" His words were filled with an undeniable confidence and sound of sincerity, he took a bit of truth from the fact of his existence, the luck of the devil, and played it to his advantage, though he was absolutely sure he would find a gryphon at any rate, he knew that helping her would aid him in eventually persuading her to sign a contract.

It was all just a game to him, one that he was hell-bent, pun intended, to win. And he always won in the end.

His confident message delivered, he spun his rainbow-colored umbrella about in his hand for just a moment, peering out to the distance as his expression dropped, a bit of a nervous-sounding chuckle passing through his lips, "Well, apparently it doesn't matter how enthusiastic I am, it might be a couple hours or so until we find one of the creatures. I think we might still be a bit too close to where the trail is." He commented, pointing with his free hand to a group of three men, casually dressed, hiking their way out a bit further than where the two were.

"Shall we continue our hunt for our companions a bit further out?" He questioned with a warm smile towards her, an innocent-looking man despite the somewhat intimidating appearance he held. To seem like such a nice man was a true sign of his skill with deception. Few on this world know, however, just exactly who Lucifer Morningstar was, and it was those few people who so far were locked in contracts with him, ones they were yet to be freed from. Whether the fact they didn't speak of him came from depression or fear, he didn't care. It made the game more fun.
