Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Kal snagged the bag of coins out of the air, calculating it's amount through weight. What he decided pleased him; it was more than enough to pay for a few dead men. He placed it in his cloak and went to retrieve his sword, and as he was returning, heard Everto's question. At first, he was silent, but his actions betrayed his thoughts as he slammed his sword hard into it's sheath. Everto was concerned about his family, then? He supposed that even demons could have compassion, though, he was beginning to realize, this particular demon was very unlike most of his kind. Kal looked down the street, past the paladin's body and into the darkness that obscured his sight. What would he do, Everto had asked?

He told himself that he wasn't being influenced by the words, but he knew it was a lie. He tried to convince himself that it was the money, the spoils, that could be gained by raiding a potentially wealthy band of overzealous paladins. If this one man had such a large sum of money, perhaps the others posessed similar riches. Some might call that stealing, but he had no qualms about taking money from corpses. They no longer had need of it, and besides, here in Balefire, looters and pickpockets would end up finding the bodies and taking it for themselves. But he knew that he was lieing about all that, too. The truth was, the tiny demon had struck a nerve, and brought forth some empathy. It was silly, thinking that he and Everto were even remotely similar, but it was done, and he had his answer.

"I'd fight the gods themselves, if I had to. Let's go." His tone was serious and his eyes determined. His mind was made up; he would help destroy this threat.

A few people had witnessed the battle, but at their approach, merely stepped back, allowing them to pass while watching them cautiously. At first he was surprised by their behavior, but then remembered that this was Balefire. People and creatures that felt safe in the darkness wouldn't care for a rogue paladin roaming about. In their eyes, perhaps the two of them had actually done them a service. Even so, word would spread. They would not have the element of surprise.

"They'll be expecting us, so be careful," he reminded the boy. "You just paid me, so I'm not your bodyguard anymore. Don't expect me to save you if you get in any trouble." His words were gruff, but he wasn't serious; in truth, he really didn't want the demon to die. He couldn't help but smile slightly at the thought, one that he had never expected himself to have. Amazing how one person could change your perspective. Falling silent, the mercenary began fitting the spikes back into his gauntlet as they walked down the street. He kept his senses alert. In this dark city, assassins could lurk anywhere. He had no intention of dying from a dagger in the back, especially on an unofficial job like this.

Everto chuckled, he thought he was going with him... it would be cute if he was weak, his help would be useful, though he would be putting his own family, if he had any, in danger, he wouldn't let him do that. He took off his metal knuckles, placing them in his pockets as he rushed to get in front of Kalim, "It's nice you want to help, you would be able to help me quite a bit... though..." He quickly brought his right fist into an upper cut, right into Kalim's groin, he quickly turned and set off.

He turned his head and called back, "I can't let you endanger your own family, though if we meet again I won't hire you again, though I will get you a free room and meal at the inn like last time, just remember, if you ever see a paladin with a crest of a black sword and shield, tell him nothing of me and deny ever knowing me, I am not a bad person, though for my family I will become a demon." He walked on, ready to hunt down the paladins and save his family from destruction, he had a lot of work to do.
