| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

He smirked, just as she mentioned sensing magic, he could feel it... like a pulse, a heart beat flowing through him, "Yeah... I can feel really powerful magic..." It was more then that, he started to sweat profusely, he grabbed his chest, something was constricting his heart. She must not know any arcane spells... how could she not feel this otherwise. He looked up, he could see a distortion in the air fifty feet away. He pointed to it, "He's using shamanistic magic to distort the air... you were extremely close before Rin." He started to move towards it, he could hear screaming in his head, it wasn't in any language he knew of though. He walked over to the distorted area, pushing his hand through it, ending the illusion, there stood an old hut, large enough to fit five comfortably. It was dark and covered in muck and slime, Everto noticed that a window was cracked and it was left open. He made sure he put on his metal knuckles, aiming at the door he throws a right straight punch, the old wooden door splinters and half comes off its hinges. He kicks it in the rest, now all that was left to deal with was an old shaman. |

Rin followed the half-demon as he led the way to another patch of dry land in the bog. The air around this area seemed to shimmer like a mirage, although it was not nearly hot enough in the swamp for such a natural phenomenon. Terrifying screams suddenly began to emanate from everywhere, causing the girl to jump back and brandish in a defensive pattern. The shouts did not lessen in intensity, pounding in the girls skull. She pressed both hands to her ears tightly, using her palms to cut off the auditory canals from the marsh, but the screams continued to reverberate though her mind. They are not real... Just more mystic defenses... Gritting her teeth against the pain, the girl continued to follow Everto, face contorted in a agonized grimace. Her heart beat faster, sweet beading along her forehead as she stumbled after the tiefling. The half-demon boy casually thrust his fist into the shimmering illusion, tearing a hole in the arcane defense. Almost immediately the cacophonous racket subsided, leaving the girl with a legendary headache. "That... was rather annoying." She massaged the bridge of her nose with one hand as she examined the hut they had discovered. It was a dilapidated building, the roof sagging so low it seemed moments away from collapse. The wooden walls were slanted inwards, thick moss covering the majority of its outer surface. Unidentifiable stains from the filthy environment had left unseemly splotches on the walls, and one window was completely shattered, leaving a small entrance into the dwelling. Everto ignored this opening, instead withdrawing brass knuckles and punching his way into the house. Rin followed the half-demon inside, her dagger ready, but the small hut was clearly empty. The shaman was not here. She looked around the house for any indication of his hoard of magical artifacts, but there was nothing to be seen. The only furniture was simply a small, stunted table and a bed with filthy sheets. There was a crooked shelf nailed directly into the wall around the circumference of the hut, with bottles and jars of every shape and description crowding the boards. Many of the items contained within were too horrible to describe, and Rin's face blanched at some of the gruesome contents. "Should we set up an ambush here, or search for him further?" He looked at the labeled jars, he could easily tell what they were, and it gave him the chills, he looked around the hut for a bit, he saw something, a piece of metal perhaps. He reached for it, dragging out an old book with a metal latch keeping to closed. Everto's curiosity overcame his desire to talk to Rin immediately, he opened the book, it was a journal. He skipped around, reading from the passages, it had notes for magic and something about... a grimoire page. He tapped his foot, a grimoire was just a strong book of magic... what use was a single page? He flips ahead a bit, reading about an experiment with earth elemental essence. He read it for a bit, he couldn't tell if Rin was annoyed or not, he read the passage to himself, the man had taken the Chalice, the Page, the essence of a sludge drake, and a stone imbued with an earth elemental. His face paled, "We need to go. Now." He quickly put the book in one of his coat's many pockets. Running outside back into the swamp, only to be met by a mound of earth in the shape of a dragon, though the face was still completely human. He was out of magic, he had nothing left then to punch to submission, though a plan would probably be better, "Rin, distract him, I'll read through his journal about the experiment, I'll try to find a weakness, just buy me some time." He quickly takes out the book again, opening it up, speed reading through the pages, he needed to find out how to stop an elemental earth dragon that could use shamanistic magic. |

The half-demon picked up a thick book, prying open the pages to examine its contents as they waited, reading the pages quickly. Rin continued to look at the disgusting jars as Everto devoured the pages, the only sound in the shack the turning pages. After a few minutes she heard a sharp intake of breath, causing her to cautiously glance at the boy. His face was pale, and he swallowed nervously before warning the girl that they had to leave, and quickly. Hearing the worry in his voice she followed the half-demon out of the hut without comment, her fingers tightening around the dagger. “What is it Everto? What was in that book?” Her question was answered quickly, but not by the tiefling. A strange beast stood in the clearing in front of the hut, a mound of earth given life through the power of an earth elemental. It was borrowing the shape of a large dragon, layers of pebbles serving the being as makeshift scales. When it opened its mouth moss hung from its lips, but there were also row after row of sharp teeth fashioned from shards of rock. Its wings had been constructed from tree branches, fluttering in the air like feathers. The false dragon met them with a roar that sounded more like a gurgle, heaving its massive bulk towards them. Everto yelled out, instructing the girl to distract the creature. “How do you expect me to do that? I only have a dagger...” She jumped towards the dragon anyways, gritting her teeth at the enormity of the task before her. The dragon lashed out at her with a limb as thick as a tree trunk, claws made of sharp rocks and splintered branches tearing into the soil in front of her. The girl threw herself forward into a somersault, slashing upwards as she passed underneath the creature's belly. The black blade slid into the gather earth effortlessly, leaving a long gouge along the elemental's underside that did not seem to pain the being at all. It gurgled again, shifting its massive weight to continue assaulting the girl. This time she struck at the offending limb, barely dodging its descent with a hasty jump. She slammed the blade into the dirt all the way to the crossguard, letting her entire weight drag the weapon in a deep gouge along the entire length of the limb. No blood spewed from the injury, and the girl had the sinking filling that her efforts were simply a nuisance to the beast. Still, it continued to pursue the girl, clearly believing her to be the more dangerous intruder. She hoped it was wrong. “I hope you have something really good cooking, because Carnwennan can barely scratch this thing!” The dragon's jaws snapped closed mere inches from her arm as the girl tumbled across the clearing, the blade dancing as she slashed three times at the earth dragon's snout and snorting in frustration when the attack was completely ineffective. She couldn't dodge its ponderous attacks forever. |

Everto skimmed through the pages, looking for anything that could be useful, he noticed something in one of the passages, talking about the page. He read it, quickly grasping what the man had done to himself, he had fused the earth elemental, the dragon's essence, and himself into one being, he had gone mad with power and the page was fueling all of it. He looked at all the possible places for it, where would be the safest place to hide the page, on it's back under the massive rock armor. It was so obvious, but still the perfect spot to hide it, he yelled out to Rin, "Get on it's back somehow, I'll distract it, dig out the page from it's back!" He charged into the beast's side, sending the metal fist into it's leg, he heard cracking sounds and dodged to the side, he couldn't tell if it was his hand that crackled or the earth abomination, though he could feel his hand throbbing, it was kinda stupid to punch a rock, though it did grab his attention. He dodged back and ducked blows, sending out a jab at the softer earthier spots, to keep his hand from breaking, causing it to keep focused on him, "Any time now Rin!" He ducked another blow from it's claw, this was going to be a long day if this kept up. |

Rin looked at the half-demon in exasperation. "Really? Climb on its back? That's the best plan you have?" She barely managed to dodge as the dragon's tailed whipped through the air, slamming into the soft ground next to her feet. A wave of dirt and plants covered the girl in filth, yet she had managed to avoid the bone-breaking force of its strike. However, the girl had no better ideas, so she sullenly nodded in agreement with the tiefling's words. She printed towards the main body of the dragon once more as Everto entered the fray, slamming his fist into the dragon's thick leg with a loud crack. Hoping that the sound had emanated from the beast and not her diminutive ally bones, but she had no time to check to see if Everto was in one piece. The earth dragon had finally stopped its onslaught against the girl, and she took full advantage of its distraction to jump onto its massive ribs. Carnwennan scraped against the rock scales for a moment before plunging into its flesh, sticking tightly in the beast's side. The girl heaved herself upwards, her other hand wrapping around one of the sharp scales further up its bulk. She winced as the earth sliced into her fingers, but kept climbing up the massive dragon as it slashed at Everto, using the dagger and its own rough skin to scale the monster. When she finally reached its spine the girl realized with dismay there was little she could do here. Thick overlapping plates of thick stone served the transformed elemental as armor, and there was no chance of her penetrating their bulk with just a dagger. She lurched as the dragon shifted underneath her bare feet, falling to her knees, her skin scraping on the rough surface. "Are you sure you do not have some anti-dragon spell?!" She grasped the edge of one armored blade tightly, blood from her lacerated fingers staining the rock. She placed the tip of her dagger underneath the thick scale and shifted her position so she could use her entire weight to pry at the weapon's hilt like a crowbar. With one last burst of exertion she tore the thick rock from its soil flesh, tossing the armor plate aside. The dragon immediately began writing and bucking, trying to dislodge the girl from its spine. She cried out and grabbed onto the openeing tightly, her feet flying off of its back so only her fingers kept her from being thrown off its body. "Everto! Do something to stop it from moving! I cannot dig like this!" She still wasn't sure why the half-demon had told her to dig into the dragon's back, but from its frenzied response she guessed that something important was hidden along its spine. |

He didn't have any spells... Glaiser was injured and resting and he'd used every ounce of arcane strength left to blow apart that giant golem, he was effectively powerless. He couldn't think, so instead he acted, running up to dragon's face, he dodged a low sweeping claw just as he leaped up to it's face, punching it hard on the snout, this time he felt the bones in his hands crack, he'd have to get it looked at in the next town. The dragon sweeps it's head down, biting at the little half-demon. Everto quickly leaps back, barely dodging the gaping maw, though luck would have it that part of it's jaw would get stuck under a root. He knew it would only be a second before it would be free, he rushed forward, leaping at it's head again, but this time he throws his undamaged fist into the eye of the beast, causing it to roar with pain as it bits down, severing the root. It was blind for now, he took this upon himself to charge in, punching the areas he knew were just dirt and pebbles rather then solid stone plates, it was all up to Rin now. |

The dragon returned its attention the half-demon for a moment, allowing Rin to find better purchase on its thick scales. She buried the blade into the exposed patch of earth, frantically burrowing beneath the enchanted flesh with the weapon. She did not notice the dragon catch its teeth on the thick root, simply glad that it had stopped trying to dislodge her from its back. Without the protective stone it was a simple task to dig through the loose earth, soil staining her skin and sundress as she frantically tore towards its center. The dragon freed itself soon enough, but she was too firmly entrenched in its back to be thrown from its spine. The dragon's gurgling roar echoed throughout the swamp, rearing back on its hind legs in a last ditch effort to dissuade its assailant. She huddled inside the indentation she had created in its flank, eyes gleaming with success. There, so close she could reach out and touch it, was a page of the Grand Grimoire. The page was a foot long and half again as wide, much larger than a normal book. The words and diagrams on its surface seemed to constantly be in motion, rearranging themselves on the pages in the spidery handwriting. The very surface of the paper itself glowed with a soft illumination, and no dirt marred its surface despite its buried environment. It was impossible to tear or permanently fold the fragments of the Grimoire, and the paper would never yellow or crinkle with age. She lovingly removed the page from the dragon's back, wrapping both arms around it as if she were embracing a lover. It is mine... The girl jumped from the dragon's back as it roared once more, but this time its cry was bubbly and pathetic. Giant clumps of earth fell from its body as the source of its power was removed, its size cut in half within moments. Its rocky scales flaked off of the soil, slamming into the ground with a series of loud thuds. The girl walked over to Everto as the dragon crumbled into nonexistence, soon nothing more than a large pile of earth in front of the hut. Before she could speak a single word a gaunt figure rose from the dirt, his entire body coated in thick soil. "You cannot have it! That is mine!" The shaman had obviously wasted away under the page's influence, his skin stretched parchment-thin over his skeleton. The man shambled towards the duo, skeletal fingers reaching out towards the girl. "Give it to me!" |

He looked Rin hugging the page, that must have been what she was looking for, he smirked, now for the chalice. He saw her easily hop off it and run over to his side, his smirk became an intrigued smile, the earth dragon was falling apart, interesting, he was sure it would fall apart, though he didn't expect the shaman to still be alive. He slowly walked over to him, looking up at him, "Shaman, you have fallen from your path, live well and be purged from your taint!" Drawing his fist back he slammed it directly below the belt, the harsh scream of the shaman echoed through out the place as he collapsed, passed out from the new pain and the stress from when he had been an earth dragon. "This is where we part ways Rin, it was nice working with you, I'll be here taking care of the shaman until he can tell me where he hid the chalice. Oh, yeah, one more thing, next time we meet you need to tell me about that page you took, it looks magical, and by default, interesting. Though that can wait for another time, I'm just going to need your help dragged the passed out old coot into the hut onto his old nasty bed." He picked up the man by his armpits, waiting for Rin to take her place. He slowly lead them into the hut, placing the shaman on his bed. He should probably clean up, but first he needed to see Rin off. |

Rin nodded, rolling the page into a small cylinder. She slipped the paper into the ribbon on her left forearm, cleverly hidden in a hidden area beneath the silvery fabric. The page was warm against her skin, as if it was glad to be with Rin once more. The girl moved to the felled shaman, tucking the dagger inside the satchel on her back. She tightly gripped the man's bony ankles, lifting him up off of the ground and helping Everto haul him into the hut. They swung the shaman onto the bed, the unconscious man groaning as he was thrown onto the sullied sheets. "Thank you so much, Everto. Your assistance was incredibly helpful!" She giggled and clapped her hands together, seemingly unconcerned with what the half-demon planned to do with the shaman. He had stolen the page, after all; his life had become forfeit at soon as he coveted its power. "I hope you can find what you are searching for, Everto. I would hate for your quest to be for nothing." She bowed respectfully to the tiefling, a scene that appeared rather absurd given the difference in their heights. She left the hut with a smile on her face, humming merrily as she walked across the clearing. Now that the page was back in her possession, there was no reason for the girl to remain in this accursed swamp. She removed the legendary dagger from the backpack, twirling the blade absentmindedly. The blade faded as it whirred through the air until no trace of it remained. Rin skipped towards the path they had followed to reach the shaman's hut, calling out to the Grimoire as she bounced through the bog. Where to next? Another page, Rinrae. Where else? There was a flash of consternation on the girl's face. There was just so much to see in Imythess. Even if there were a million pages lost across the continent she doubted that she would get to explore everywhere. But she felt the pull of the next page in her very core, a compass she could neither ignore nor deny. The next page was south of here. She would find it or she would perish. Hopefully there would be something interesting to look at on the way. |
