| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Tock was grateful for the help, but saddened that there was little he could offer in return. Still it was probably best that he stay out of the matter if it was truly so dangerous. There was only so much that he could do to help the mage. Tock was unsure of what to make of Everto's advice. The Gloomwood forest was flat out scary and it was hard to muster up the courage for any manner of bravado. Before Tock could make a reply he received a mental image of howhow scary the Gloomwood forest really was. He remembered the hungry jaws of an umbra almost upon him, s close he could feel the creature's breath. Why in all sanity had he returned to the forest? Everto's words brought him back to reality and he realized that both he was shivering and sweating. Valor was likewise frightened, tucking his tail between his legs as if that would help him evade detection. "I-I c-c-can't let y-you d-do it alone!" Tock replied resolutely as he drew a shortsword from his side. Tock knew he was not greatly skilled in combat, but he couldn't run all the time. Even more so he couldn't run while others fought for him. It just wasn't right. There was also a small spark of hope that Tock could help make sure that there were no further deaths tonight. |

Everto pulled on a pair of metal knuckles, clanking them together to make sure they were snug. He looked as a pair of bandits wearing leather armor came out from the woods behind them, wielding thick branches as clubs, as a rather thin and pale robed man walked out in front of the pair wielding a quarter staff as he moved towards them. He gritted his teeth and clanked the fists together again, looking at Tock, "You disable the mage, I'll go knock some sense into the bandits." He turned on his heel, dashing towards the two bandits. He felt the fear well up inside him and promptly ignored it, instead focusing on his fists, yes, focus was what they needed to beat a fear spell. He stopped as he got ready to punch, freezing in place for only a moment, allowing one of the large clubs to smash into the side of his head. He felt his body smack into the ground, his head started to ache as fresh blood matted his white hair. He rolled backwards onto his feet, his legs wobbling slightly as he got ready to fight once more. This time one of the men stepped in, raising his club high, obviously trying to finish him off fast, though that wide movement was exactly what he needed, he rushed in, his metal fist sending an uppercut into the man's stomach, he heard the air escape the man's mouth and followed it up with jumping upper cut using his opposite hand, he felt the chin give way as the bandit fell to the ground, a few teeth falling to the ground after him. He turned and looked, one bandit left, he hoped Tock was doing better then him. |

Apparently Evert was skilled in combat in more than just magic. Tock was fortunate to get help from one so skilled, he probably wouldn't stand a chance by himself. Hopefully taking care of the mage wouldn't prove too dificult, but he had a feeling it would. If he was to stand a chance he would have to bolster Valor's spirits. "C-c-courage st-still the h-heart and ease t-the m-mind, p-peace for s-soul so h-hard to f-find," Tock chanted as his free hand danced in there air. As the chant had ended Tock placed his hand on Valor, instilling the hound with courage that flushed out the fear. Tock had not been the only one casting a spell at the time as the mage worked out a spell of his own. With a loud snap a dark bolt of energy rushed out of the tip of the mage's staff. If Tock hadn't finished his spell first Valor might not have reacted in time, but instead the surge of energy and focre of will allowed Valor to swiftly teleport out of the way. The dark energy popped loudly as it struck the ground, no doubt deadening whatever was trying to grow there. The dark nature of their surroundings limited Valor's options so Valor couldn't teleport behind his foe, but he did manage to teleport besides the mage. Tock aimed a strike at the mage's quarterstaff, hoping to break it and debilitate the mage's magic, but was still too frightened by the spell to hit accurately. Valor tried running around the mage to stay out of harm's way but the mage managed to whirl around with his staff and smack Tck hard with the stick. The blow almost knocked Tock out of his saddle. |

He saw Tock take the blow, that wasn't good, he looked at the final bandit and growled, he would need to be dealt with swiftly. He took a few steps back, he needed to be cautious... it was time to work some magic. He put his hands out and motioned slightly with them, he didn't speak an incantation, he had long since been able to use spells with only some hand motions and his will. The man charged him, trying to club him just before the spell could be completed, the fear combined with the man charging... there was no way the spell would go off, he let it fizzle as he stopped the motions, instead he took a strong step forward and switched from spell casting to his fist fighting offensive, slamming his metal knuckles into the man's shin. He was rewarded by a yowl of pain as the man fell on top of him, that wasn't the best plan he had, but it would work. The man picked up his club and raised it up, planning to smash his face in no doubt, he thrust out his fist, punching the man's hands as he swung down, he only broke some of the momentum though, the club flew from the man's hand and smashed into his face, his glasses and nose both breaking. He tried his best to escape from the man, but to no avail, instead now he simply started to strangle him, Everto started to punch at his arms, but it was pointless, the man was going to strangle him to death if Tock didn't get to him in time. He let out a gurgling yell, hoping Tock could hear it. |

"W-why are y-you attacking us?" Tock mustered the courage to call out. Maybe this was all some big misunderstanding. Tock had done nothing to warrant attack from these folk though perhaps Everto had. Perhaps these people had overheard their conversation of the chalice and sought either to keep it secret or learn of its location. It was possible that these foes had been wronged but Everto. That would certainly explain why the Blade of Justice had not come to his aid. What ever the reasoning for the assault, none of the trio seemed to desire to answer the question or at least not in the traditional manner. The mage answered the question with archaic words as he began to form another spell. Tock doubted his magic could stand up against the mage’s, and was not yet ready to draw blood. His best bet was destroying the staff. With nay luck that would force the mage to think twice before continuing the fight. With a small spark of hope Tock bid Valor to charge again. Once more Tock was brought near the staff and once more Tock attempted to strike the staff as he passed by. The result was far more that Tock had expected. Splitting the staff in two while the mage was still casting caused the spell to backfire with tremendous power. The tip of the staff exploded in a brilliant display of magical energy, propelling the mage, Tock, and Valor away from the blast. Tock was knocked off of Valor and was hurled into brute that was strangling Everto. |

Everto breathed with a sigh of relief as he angrily glared at the dazed man, the spell of fear was gone. He called forth his arcane might, summoning a small orb of flames, "For trying to strangle me... I should kill you, you are very lucky my friend here doesn't like death, so I shall spare you death, but give you a nasty thrashing." He shot the ball of flames into his chest, it burned the leather as he howled in pain. Everto walked over to him and started to punch him while he was lying on the ground. Three quick punches to his head was all it took to finish the man off, he smiled as he focused on breathing and placing a hand on his throat. It was red and had imprints on it, that would take some healing magic to fix, something he didn't know about. He looked over to Tock and went over to his little friend, pulling him up into a sitting position, "You doing well Tock... any injuries to speak of?" His voice was barely above a whisper, talking hurt, he breathed deeply still, slowly and deeply. He looked at the small black lines along the ground for scorch marks and the mage was lying among some trees, his arm clearly broken, he could see the bone protruding from his elbow, a nasty sight. He looked around, there could be more, though first they needed to get patched up. He smiled as he spoke again, still barely above a whisper, "Heal yourself first if you're injured, then me please. We need to get moving, more might come." He couldn't get the intended urgency in his voice, he was simply in to much pain, his head had been smacked several times, his nose was bleeding, and he was almost choked to death, it just wasn't his day. |

The magical phenomenon had knocked Tock unconscious. After knocking Everto’s assailant over and rolling several feet away Tock came to a stop, inert and completely oblivious to the world around him. Valor’s nudging nose was the first sensation that he noted upon returning to consciousness, but shortly afterward Tock realized his body was in pain, everywhere. Tock didn’t have a great desire to move, but he didn’t have much choice in the matter but more importantly he might need to help Valor and Everto. Tock noticed that his power of magic also seemed some what diminished. He would have to try and ration out what little magic he had. Tock hurt all over, but he doubted his wounds were immediately important. He didn’t notice any bleeding, though there might be some bruising. Valor seemed more or less completely unharmed. “I… I th-think I-I’ll b-be alright,” Tock replied. The light from his pom-pom was dimmer now but Tock could clearly see that Everto did bear some nasty wounds. “L-life l-lend and w-w-wounds m-m-mend,” Tock whispered as he pointed at Everto’s face. The bleeding of Everto’s nose would be stopped and the hand print would lessen some. It wouldn’t alleviate the cursed mage’s pain a great deal but it was the best that Tock could do given the present conditions. Tock wanted to do something do something about their assailants, but he knew there was little he could do even if there was more time. “I-I’m s-s-sorry it’s the b-best I c-can do. D-do you kn-know w-why they attacked-d-d us?” Tock asked, still whispering softly in hopes of not attracting the attention of and further foes. As Tock asked the question he climbed back into the saddle. Tock thought the worse threat to the woods were the fauna, but it seemed he was wrong. |

Everto sighed as the healing magic took away some of the pain, his nose stopped bleeding and he felt it was easier to breathe. He shrugged as he heard him ask why they attacked them, Everto crouched by the nearest assailant, searching his clothing for anything that could lead to a clue... he found one rather quickly, a scroll with orders and a reward promised on it, he read it slowly out loud, "The child known as Everto Parvulus is wanted by the Order of the Black Sword. They are willing to pay one thousand gold pieces for his head, he has killed a several paladins and wounded many more, he is a half-demon that needs to be purged." He sighed and rubbed his temples as he tossed the scroll aside, "Before you panic Tock... I only killed one paladin, and I did because he threatened to hunt down my entire family and kill them for just being half-demon. These men... are after my head, you should probably keep on going towards Balefire, just remember to go to the tavern first, the barkeep will give you directions to the man's house if he's not there... but I need to go. If they're after me you'll only be caught in the crossfire, it was nice to meet you Tock, when we meet again I hope it'll be under better circumstances... maybe in a tavern in Cascadia." He waved as he started towards the woods, he needed to get lost for a while and lick his wounds. |

Tock was caught off guard by the words. Were his ears playing tricks on him? Did the blast of magic effect his mind as well? Was Everto joking? No It all seemed too real and Everto did not seem to be in the mood to jest. If he had killed paladins why was he reading that out loud? Wouldn't he be wanting to keep his ill deeds secret? Was this the part were Everto cackled and turned against him? Tock was scared, but more so confused. None of this all added up. The pain form his wounds certainly did help either in solving the conumdrum. When Everto explained himself Tock was still shocked. Everto was a half-demon? Was that what he had menat when he said he was cursed? Was Everto evil? Had Everto really killed a Paladin as he claimed? Had a paladin truly threatened to kill an entire family? It was all too much. Now Tock had only mere moments to decide whether to stop the half-demon or let him go. He wasn't sure if the mage was truly a good person. He wasn't sure if he even had the skills to help the mage. Tock shook his head hoping that the act would give him metal clarity. The mage was hurt and the gloomwood was dangerous, but it was also possibly that he was wanted in the City. Tock would have only slowed the mage down and light from his pom-pom would probably attract too much attention to the mage if Tock tried to follow Everto. In the end there was nothing Tock could do but watch Everto go. By the time Tock reached the conclusion Everto was already gone. Tock had been to baffled to even offer proper gratitude for the assistance, or condolence for not being able to help, or even a proper farewell. He could have tried to chase the mage down, but it would prove to be counterproductive. Prehaps he would be able to make for it all if they were to meet again. |
