| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Everto hadn't been traveling for long, he'd left his home with his family only a month ago, and this was his first encounter with bandits. They had surrounded him, only four in number, and looked down at him, asking him questions like, where are his parents, where's his home, and if he's alone... though in baser more insulting manners. One of them got right in his face, making baby talk as if he couldn't understand him, his red eyes flashed behind his glasses as he grabbed his face, setting him on fire. Everto's harsh laughter rang throughout the woods as he started to fight the men. He turned to punch right below the belt of another, calling forth magical energy into his palm he shot a magic missile directly after his punch into the same area. He smiled as he man's voice reached a falsetto as he crumpled to the ground. Everto laughed harshly, as he turned to the last two, who turned and ran, yelling and crying out, "It's a demon! A demon!" They weren't exactly wrong, he was half-demon on his father's side, he prepared another spell, conjuring flames to his hand, they were faster runners, they might get away. Everto smiled, blasting the fireball from his hand, watching it streak towards them, exploding only a few steps in front of them, he watched their bodies fall to the ground. He smirked, that's what they get for underestimating him just because he looks like a kid. |

Tock hated the dark, and even more the dark of Gloomwood forest which did it's best to stifle and consume any light that dare to bring even the dimmest bit of radiance into a land of erternal night. Despite Tock's fears and bad experinces, he needed to get to the city that was unfrotunately placed in the middle of the woods. The light of of Tock's pom-pom barely lit the road infront of him and Valor, but that was the best Tock could do with his simple cantrip. Tock was hoping that the feeeble light wouldn't attract any hungry denizens of the wood and so far they had been lucky, yet the moogle's hope that the journey would be uneventful was doomed to be shattered. Near the City of Balefire Tock heard screaming in the distance followed by a flash in the distance. Was some one in trouble? Logic told Tock that whatever was over there was dangerous and out of his league, but he had to go. Someone might be in need of serious help and Tock might be that person's only hope. Tock really hoped the matter wasentirely a figment of an over atictive imagination as he ugred his faithful steed hurry in that direction. The flying blink dog resisted at first but eventually followed Tock's guidance. "Hello? Is anyone hurt or in trouble?" Tock asked as he neared. |

He turned his head at the small creature, it was fluffy and white, he scratched his head, "Uh... the bandits aren't really hurt, except for that one..." He snapped his fingers, the body erupting into flames, his screams echoing through out the night. "Okay, now no one is hurt," He quickly walked towards the creature, "Hi, I'm Everto, thanks for coming to see if anyone was hurt, if these guys would have actually been a challenge I would have been grateful for your help." He realized he hadn't fully explained what he was, the creature would probably freak out if a normal human could do all of this, but maybe a half-demon would scare him more, "If you're wondering how I did that... let's just say I've gone some odd bloodlines in me along with a curse... keeping me at this size and to forever look like a ten year old boy... though I am quite a bit older..." He offered his hand, it was best to start off any new relationship with a good handshake. |

Tock's mouth was left open, something that Everto seemed to preiceive as awe, but shock was a much better word and not for the reasons Everto seemed to think of. The small boy's explanation didn't clarify a great deal given that there had been many children that were gifted mages and Tock had seen a few at the academy of magic. "The question isn't how you did that but why! I can understand trying to protect yourself but attacking someone while they are already beaten is just monsterous," Tock exclaimed. Tock found Castor's inability value life appauling, though in his defense it did seem like they were the ones who orginally attacked him. "The least you could do is help me make sure you don't end up killing anyone tonight. Every life has value, no matter how it is lived," Tock proclaimed as he dismounted and attempted to tend to any pressing wounds. He knew his powers were far too feeble to do much and there was little hope of getting them all to the city, even as close as it was, but he had to try and do something. |

He raised an eyebrow, "Don't bother, they're all dead, bandits and slavers are scum that need to be eliminated from this plain of existence, they were just unlucky that they met me and my fire magic." He nodded to himself before continuing on, "You see the one I just lit on fire probably already has his lungs destroyed as he's stopped screaming, and moving in general, the other two are over there in the crater I made with my fireball, I think one of their limbs is in the trees, serves the scum right for trying to take me away." He didn't care what people thought about him for this, scum needed to be wiped away so that others could live without worry of them coming after them. He shrugged though, "We should probably get moving though, my little light show will probably attract plenty of little beasts that I don't really feel like fighting, I don't know where you're going, but I'm heading back to town, feel free to come with me... I never got your name, who are you exactly... and what are you?" He was puzzled by the creature it was something he'd never seen before, maybe it was some kind of mythical beast that only appears once in a blue moon, so to speak, the possibilities were endless. |

Was it truely as hopeless as the ageless boy proclaimed? How depressing? He came all the way out here to help when in truth there was nothing he could do. Some may have been aive still, but he couldn't mend their wounds and what good would it? Soon Umbras and other predators would decsend upon the area. Tock could neither defend nor move these people. Whether they were dead or alive now, their fate was beyond Tock's capacity now. Depression settled in as Tock made his way back to Valor. Maybe if he weren't so useless he could have saved at least one of these lives. "I-I-I'm terribly s-s-orry. I d-d-didn't introduce mys-s-self earlier. My n-n-name is Tock and I am a moogle, a r-r-race that is not n-n-normally found on Chaon. My travelling companion is called Valor," Tock stuttered softly with his he hung low as he got back in the saddle. "I h-h-have m-m-most unpleast memories of slavers m-m-myself. I agree they are s-s-scum, but w-w-whenever you d-d-decide that you can t-t-take their l-l-life in your h-h-hands are you truly b-b-better than they?" |

He scratched his head, a being from another plane of existence, this Tock moogle was the most interesting thing he'd ever met. Though the bit about being better then them... yeah, that didn't make him feel better, "Killing is killing, I know that, but sometimes death is necessary, you can't just jail every bandit, that would fill up every jail cell on every continent, they would be killed eventually or set back into the world to cause more destruction and strife, my way saves an infinite amount of possibilities." He truly believed that, he needed to believe that, or else killing bandits was nothing more then a hobby along with his experiments. Though he felt the need to change the subject, "Valor huh... a blink dog, an honest and noble companion, I'm a bit jealous Tock, you at least have company every day... but besides that, tell me about your people." He quickly took out his quill and spell book, opening it up to a blank page. He quickly added on, "I hope you don't mind if I record this, it's just when I see something magical or something unknown to most people... I feel the need to document it." He waited with bated breath, waiting for Tock to speak so he could record his new findings. |

Did Everto lack faith in the capacity to change or was Tock merely too naive to see the world as it truly was? Was Everto psossibly right? Tock was too saddened to try and keep up the argument. There was no use in it anyways. Tock had no capacity to change the boy's mind just as he had no capacity to save any of those lives, or anyone for that matter. Failures didn't save lives. Tock was thankful for the change of subject, though it did little to improve his mood. "I-I-I'm-m-m s-s-s-sorry, b-b-b-but-t I-I-I d-d-on't-t-t w-want t-to t-t-talk about it-t-t. I-I-It's n-n-not a p-p-pleasent p-p-past," Tock replied meekly. He didn't want to be rude, but was truly in no mood to talk of such things. It was strange that the boy wanted to document his finding and part of that made it even worse. He wanted to help the boy, but what good would it do to tell the boy how much of a failure he was compared to any of his kind. "Not much of my past is pleasent" Tock sighed barely above a whisper, barelly noticing the bords of his mind had made use of his tounge. In return Valor gave a soft wine of his own, noting his dipleasure with Tock's present mood. |

Everto frowned, it was obvious the little moogle didn't have much in the way of confidence, the constant stutter was an obvious give away. He put away his quill and book quickly, "Okay then, why not tell me a bit about yourself, it's rare that I get to meet someone out on the road like this." He continued walking, the blink dog was also something he was interested in, such animals were strong and hardy, not to mention... magical. He couldn't resist anymore, "Why not tell me about your canine friend, blink hounds are strong and noble creatures, quick to protect their masters, you must be a great moogle to have befriended one." He kept his hands away from the canine, animals didn't like him, probably because of the smell of fire always on his hands, it was just something he couldn't get rid of, though if he could befriend an animal, it would have to be something with fire. |

Tock wasn't surpised that the road city wasn't often visited, it cretainly wasn't a pleasent area to pass through and the local creatures were just down right frightening. Tock wasn't sure if he should be relieved that Everto changed the subject, though telling Everto about himself was not much better, yet it was certainly not a service he had barred to other's in the past. Before Tock could even speak the mage asked for information on Valor instead. It certainly seemed like a better subject, though Tock wasn't sure what all there was to tall or what all the mage desired to hear. One thing was certain, the mage had to be told that he was wrong. Great was a word beyond what Tock could possibly deserve. "Great d-d-does not d-d-describe me w-well unless i-it preceeds the w-w-word failure. I did s-succeed in h-h-helping Valor escape some n-nasty tr-trappers, but r-really w-wasn't that m-much help. If it w-weren't for the b-b-blade of Justice... well it w-wouldn't have b-b-been pretty," Tock sighed, shaking his head. "B-but after that w-we've been g-g-good freinds ever s-s-since. He's v-v-very brave though I d-do feel b-bad for bringing h-him into these cr-cr-creepy w-woods," Tock added, seeming to cheer up a bit in the process. At the mention of his bravery Valor stretched his wings and held his head up high as if to willing accept the charge. "I'm h-here to dr-drop off a d-delivery to B-balefire. If I may ask what brings you to the gloomwood?" Tock was curious as to what would bring others to visit the scary woods, though part of him really didn't want to know the answer. |

Everto smirked, the moogle needed a shot of confidence, he was far to cowardly. If he wasn't so nice Everto would have probably been disgusted by him, though the dog was probably more then happy to defend his friend. Maybe he should get a pet of his own... though not a dog, something else, something with fire. He frowned as he heard the moogle ask why he was here, well, might as well give him all of his reasons, "The reason I'm here specifically is to clear the trade routes a bit, my sister is a merchant, she was going to go down this road in a few days, I decided to clear it out a bit while I was wandering through, not to mention I heard there's a few shady figures that sell information in Balefire, I need to go there to ask about a special chalice." Everto smiled, he loved the thought of the chalice, it was a magical artifact of great power... though the power was to make anything placed into it fresh, it would allow him to use even dead and useless ingredients since it revived them, it was exactly what he needed to gain demon and angel blood. He would lift the curse after he got the chalice and enough power to kill the demon with his own two hands, also he would need to ask the angel for it's blood, he didn't want to fight an angelic being. |

The mage claimed that he was primarily here to clear the trail, but something else seemed prominant in his mind. Something about a about a chalice of some sort and shady characters. Tock thought all of Balefire's native's were somewhat shady, but to say so would be considerably rude given that Everto seemed to be a local. Why people desired to live in this bleak shadowy realm was beyond him, but who who was he to judge. "If I m-may ask, wh-what s-sort of special ch-chalice?" Tock asked. No doubt there was some manner of magic involved. It probably wasn't his place to ask. Tock knew he had no remote means of helping the boy get anything 'special'. After giving ample time for response Tock relaized that the mage might be able to help him with his delivery. It would be bad to waste the fellows time, but for the present time they both seemed to be headed in the same direction. "Also s-since y-you s-s-seem to b-be a local, d-d-do you ch-chance to know a m-man called Oralic? I h-have some d-directions, but they s-seem a bit hard to r-r-read. He's the one I'm d-delivering a p-package to." |

He nodded, "Nope, not a local of Gloomwood, though I've been in Balefire plenty of times with my sister... as for Oralic... he usually hangs out at the tavern. He'll be the guy with his head in half stuck in a bottle. As for the chalice, it's a special alchemical device, it keeps ingredients fresh or revives the ingredients making them fresh. I'm going to need it since several ingredients I'm going to need are dead and all I'll get are dead leaves or nuts that are to dried to use, the chalice will let me revive them for the use of my potion... then I'll no longer have this small body. I'll be cured and have a normal body like my sisters, this way no one will mistake me for a kid." He smiled as he kept his pace steady, he wanted to prove to the world he was a powerful mage first, gain their respect that way, then become an adult... it's not like he didn't have a few thousand years left of life. He gave nodded to Tock, "But first we'll get to Balefire and get your package delivered, I've got lots of spare time, so I'll help you out for now Tock, just leave the fighting to me if more enemies appear." He smirked, if more enemies appeared he'd knock them out this time... he didn't want to scare his new friend. |

Tock frowned as he learned of his destination and of who he had to meet. Neither sounded very pleasent. Apparently the boy was cursed and this chalice would help him some how. He had mentioned that he didn't look his age, so prehaps the curse kept him in this youthful state. It certainly seemed a strange curse to give to someone. Many might even look at it as a gift. Tock was glad to see that he would get help with his task, though he felt he didn't really deserve it. His offer to handle any future enemies was a strange one, Tock was both releived and terrified at the same time. Sure the mage seemed to have the power to defend himself, but he also seemed so ruthless, destructive, and uncaring towards life. He hoped that they didn't meet any new foes before they reached the city, but knowing his own luck Tock knew the lieklhood of that happening was low. He wouldn't let Everto fight by himself either, he had to at least try and be useful. "You d-don't have to h-h-help if you d-d-don't w-want too, but I gr-greatly appreactite the h-help you've already g-given. It pr-probably n-not worth much, b-but if there's anything I-I can d-do to help you g-get get the ch-chalice, I wouldn't mind helping you in return for the help you've given me," Tock replied. It was only proper that he offered, but Tock didn't like the idea of sticking around if that was what required within helping Everto. |

Everto smirked, "Nah, I want to help, you seem like a timid kind of guy, you need to learn to fake a strong front, also if I'm with you in Balefire you can make your delivery that much faster. As for the chalice... you shouldn't help me, who ever has it probably won't give it up without a fight or some insanely dangerous task, something tells me you wouldn't want to go into a magical duel with someone easily four times stronger then us." Tock was obviously timid and not to well spoken, he would only be dead weight in a quest of this magnitude... no matter how nice of a guy he was. He felt a cold chill run down the back of his spine, he felt fear for no reason... what was here? He concentrated for a few seconds... wait, he recognized this spell, it was just a simple Fear spell, someone wanted to cause them to panic, a mage was nearby. He looked at Tock, "Be on your guard... we've got some trouble coming at us, someone just cast a fear spell... try to ignore it, if to many bandits appear, just run, I can take care of them myself Tock." He didn't want his little friend to get into a fight they couldn't win... he had a spell to even the odds of any large fight though. |
