Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Vyse had traveled a bit with Volke, he thought of him as a close friend, they had been attacked only twice on the way to Cascadia, his luck sometimes amazed him at how few brigands attack them at once. He had brought Volke to the Broken Strings Inn. As always it was loud and cheery, people drinking and making merry, he himself felt a bit tipsy from the ale he was drinking.

"This is a great place eh, Volke?" Vyse smiled, he simply loved the innocent play of the musicians and the other patrons taking part in watching the show, drinking, eating. It was all so grand, if he ever had to settle down, he'd settle for a home near the Broken Strings. "If ya need to get any kinda information, this is the place to do it. So just ask and I'll help ya out." He drained the last bit of his ale, it wasn't enough to make him completely drop dead drunk, but it was enough to make walking a chore. He planned on helping out Volke until he was ready to travel on his own, now all he needed to do was wait for Volke to make a simple decision.

'Wow, for as long as I've known this man he still doesn't know...I won't know what it is I need to know until I know it.' "Well friend-Vyse I thank you for all you've done to help me...but there is no way for you or anyone esle to give me what it is that I seek." I let my gaze wander around the room, there were many people who cast disdainful glances in my direction, especially those more taken by the ale. I had done much to hide my person, I tugged my bandana over my pointed ears and let my shirt drop over my tail. It made a handy belt in times like this, though even the least perceptive people could tell readily enough that I was not fully human. "There are no questions for me to ask, there are no problems for me to solve, I seek a purpose. That is all, when I find one...if I find one, my goal shall be complete. Every thing will fall into place as it should." I sat staring at the empty place at the bar in front of me, I declined the offered ale. Drink made you clumsy, that was not the way of my tribe. We were fluid, and alive, not staggering and flailing. "I will gladly accompany you until your task is finished, there is naught that I would not gladly join you in. Know that if you should call on my blade it shall readily be in your service." 'I feel uneasy here...it's too crowded. I think fresh air would suit me better.' "I'll be outside if you need anything." I sat up and turned slowly and made for the door.

Vyse left money for his drink and left with him, "A purpose is probably tha' hardest thing to come by in these parts, I only got mine because of a bad set of events happened on the same night, causin' all sorts of chaos and tears." Vyse still remembered the corpse of his mother and teacher, now he just needed to kill his father and the corruption in their family would hopefully disappear with him.

"You should wander proudly and not hide yer ears or tail my friend, be proud of who you are, or else you might just end up like them, hating another race for pre-conceived reasons." Vyse had to lean against a wall outside to keep steady, letting the alcohol work its way through his body, getting drunk was one of the ways he escaped the nightmares of his mother's and teacher's death, not to mention the countless others he couldn't save.

"You should get on tha' stage when the musicians stop, play yer flute, if people won't respect yer race, have them respect you."
Vyse felt his legs regain some of their footing, sobering up while being awake was an odd feeling, like having gauze taken away from your eyes.

"I hide because I fear a death with no cause, maybe not mine, but some drunk who wishes to prove something. I do not hate full humans, I simply avoid them because of thier preconcived notions of me" I whispered, barely more than the hiss of steam escaping a kettle. "I will not play my flute, the sounds of my tribe are reserved for friends and battle. I do not know those people, I will not preform my sacred rites in front of them. If anything I will retire for the night, and I will search on tomorrow, my my days of seeking fill me with the experience I will need to complete the task I'm given." I turned away from the music and noise, the sound filled my ears still. I was uneasy, the faded memories of my burning tent were coming up unbidden, the moon was full, the clouds were gone. The sky was just like that night, all other nights like this I've seen blood. My nerves began to run high, I felt wired. My eyes reflected the light and glowed golden, another startling feature or being a Sethèi.

"Right, right sorry 'bout that, well if ya wanna retire for tha' night I got us rooms in the Broken Strings," Vyse tosses Volke a room key, "Tomorrow we can eat and tour the city a bit, see if there's anything we can dig up on bandits and smuggler and tha' like." Vyse was already doing that technically, he had contacts in the city that would give him a message on a hit or just some information on some smuggler. Either way he would do his job tomorrow.

"Well g'night Volke, I'm going to bed myself, early day tomorrow and all that." Vyse walked back inside, nodding to the innkeeper as he moved upstairs. He crept into his room and put his sword belt on a small table, falling down onto the bed and he fell asleep immediately, he always slept well in the beds of the Broken Strings Inn.

I sat outside a moment longer, then entered the inn and made my way towards my lodgings. Restless. I could not leave well enough alone, I sat up in my room, blade in hand, eyes on the door. The hours would drain by as they always do. One night awake was easily enough done, and tomorrow would be there. Tomorrow always came, and with it a sense of peace. I would be able to sit through one night, ears twitching at every creak, eyes constantly scanning the inky darkness of my room. 'There is time enough for worry, while I'm here I might be able to find her...or some trace. Some one here must have heard of her. If people have heard of me and since I've heard of her...it's the only logical conclusion.' Time wore on. The night would be long indeed.

Vyse woke up in the middle of the night, a letter being shoved between the crack in the door. He walked over and picked it up, reading it immediately as he moved to put on his sword belt. "Hmmm a small smuggling racket near here... that's odd, says they're smuggling weapons... that's a high risk payload, not for amateurs." Vyse knew it was a trap, someone had gotten wind of him being there and made this poorly written note as bait.

They knew he would come, and he knew it to, if it wasn't bait then that means this would be a huge smuggling job that he would stop, and even if it wasn't a smuggling job he would lower the amount of people after him. He opened the door and made for Volke's room, knocking lightly on the door, whispering, hopefully loud enough for those catlike ears to hear him. "Volke, I caught wind of a smuggling operation, its probably a trick though that leads to an ambush, if you want to tag along, be downstairs in five minutes."

Vyse tested his blades as he walked down the stairs, keeping an eye out for any steel glints and an ear open for twang of bow strings. He was ready to kill these men in an instant, just as always, a hunter's work is never done.

'It seems I was right...tonight will be a night for blood.' I padded as silently as I could across the floor and down the stairs, I kept my eyes darting and my sword arm ready, I lightly pressed my palm against Vyse's shoulder letting him know I was fully ready for our "endeavor". "Come friend-Vyse, let's see what there is to see, even if it's an ambush we main gain some information, eh?" I strolled out a pace behind and half a pace to the left.

Vyse let out a slight chuckle, ambushes were like normal combat to him now, he already knew that there was going to be two or three bolts of metal or magic coming his way as soon as he was halfway out of cover. He rounded the corner into an alley, it was just wide enough to pass through easily. When coming to the end of the alleyway, Vyse crouches and moves along as best as he can, peeking around the corner. Sighing in relief Vyse casually strolls out into the next alley, "Its okay Volke, its not an ambush, ol' Ratterung wouldn't come to an ambush in person." Vyse grinned as a rather small man skulks out of seemingly the shadows.

"Vyse... Volke... yes, Ratterung does not like ambushes that might get me, us, we, killed." Ratterung was a rather small man with a short nose, a scraggly beard, and long dirty black hair, but his eyes, they were a bright green that seem to be able to see into the souls of those he looks at. "Ratterung has good news for the Volkes and the Vyses, Drachma is in Cascadia, yes he is, gonna stay here to, that's all the information that me, we, us promised, unless you has more interesting things to trade." his eyes seem to scan them, looking them up and down rapidly.

"I am sorry Ratterung, I have no more interesting stories nor am I willing to part with my master's soul object that he left me." Vyse smiled as he felt the wait of the journal in his pocket, a constant reminder of both good and bad memories. "Volke, you can ask Ratterung for information if you like, his eyes hear everything... and yes, I mean his eyes hear everything, he's... unique like that." Vyse knew that Ratterung had some sort of power with his eyes, he just didn't know what exactly.

'Hmm this creature knows much it would seem, but I have nothing to impart.' "I'm sorry, It would seem I have nothing of value to trade." I had little enough on me as is, my blade and my flute. Those were my world, my constant reminder of what had been taken from me and I was loathe to part with either. "Well friend-Vyse if you wish to continue I suggest we make great haste." I scanned around anxiously, waiting for an attack. There may be none forthcoming but if there was I would be ready, I would not be caught unaware again.

Vyse saw the little Ratterung staring at a specific area on Volke, he sighed, Volke said he didn't want to play for anyone but his friends and in battle, but maybe he could play for Ratterung. "Ratterung, is there anything besides my journal that you want?" Vyse already knew the answer, he had dealt with Ratterung a few times and quickly knew what to expect from the oddball.

"Ratterung wants to hear pretty wind musics, so many powerful emotions in it, very powerful, a tune for any informations you wants. If Ratterung not know the information, Ratterung will get informations in day or two." Ratterung grinned his horrifying grin, teeth sharpened down to points, blood staining the teeth, an aweful smell now starts to linger in the air.

"Ah... so just a tune, do you think you could spare a moment for that or is it to personal to do?" Vyse doubted that Volke would actually do it, trading information or hiring an informant was something people used for dishonest work, and by far Ratterung was probably one of the most vile people, but he was honest and hard working, only taking information for information.

I thought for a moment. And a moment more, if this Ratterrung wanted to hear my music in exchange for information then I would trade, but there was no information that I needed. "Friend-Vyse, is there any information that you need? I don't have any questions to ask, or at least none worth asking. If you need to know something of worth then you may ask." My hand strayed to my flute, I took it out and trilled a bar of haromonies for quick practice. Simple tunes that meant nothing, only warmed up my fingers for the dexterous activity of actually playing my tribes music.

"Alright, thank you my friend, Ratterung, I need to know the location of my father's next smuggling operation." Vyse hated the thought of having to run half-way around the world again for a simple smuggling operation, he hoped it was in Cascadia itself.

"Ratterung knows, yes, many miles away, far away from Cascadia, North to Striberg then east to many green trees, Ratterung warns you though, one man would have a hard time doing it alone and two wouldn't be much better." Ratterung twitched for moment, blinking rapidly and rubbing his hands together, waiting for his pretty music.

Vyse sighed, it was one heck of a trip away, he would have to take a ship from a port town all the way to Striberg, after he had gotten back from it only a few weeks before he met Volke. "It looks like its back to Striberg for me, if you could please play a short song for our friend Volke, that would be appreciated."

"Fair is fair, a trade requires a transaction." I brought the flute to my lips, I played one short bar from the highest trill to the lowest in quick succession then began to play an old blade dance tune titled "The man in the wind" It was usually accompanied by a strong skin drum, to keep the beat. I knew it well enough though, and I tapped my foot every fourth note. Slowly the melody came out, like a gentle breeze across the plain, winding it's way across the low rocks and through the tall grass. It began to pick up with a leap, soaring out over the coulds, dashing madly from one harmony on to the next. The scene painted itself boldly, with harsh strokes of wind blotting out the entire alley, the sound reverberating off the walls and playing back on itself, in time it welled up within me and spilled out. I began to spin, sweeping high and low all the while preforming a jig. The tempo began it's steep ascent to the crescendo and the pace became frantic until with one final and terminal blast, it ended abruptly, just like the winds in the plains, blowing out until you seek shelter, then ending as you find it.

Ratterung clapped his hands, chuckling whilst he moved back into the shadows, disappearing. "Ratterung will forever remember that song, thanks for the help Volke, now we should rest and talk in the morning, unless you have anything more you want to do tonight." Vyse felt wide away but he knew his body had some fatigue to it, if Volke wanted to prowl the streets a bit he'd accompany him, he didn't want his friend to have to be hunted alone if there truly were people who did that. "Otherwise we should head off to bed, I'm tired myself and we'd need to get up in around four hours to get a griffin down to the ground."
