Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Fusions

A fusion is the combining of several items into one item in order to combine their features and/or abilities. You may fuse weapons, armor, familiars/pets, jewelry, magical clothing/items, instruments, supplies, and focuses.

Simple fusions consist of two or three similar items, such as a weapon and a weapon or an armor piece and an armor piece. The items are directly combined and all of their effects are present in the new item. A complex fusion is any combination that is not a simple fusion.

  • A maximum of three items may be fused together into one item.

  • Additions can only be cosmetic/aesthetic.

  • One may remove positive effects from a combined item, but they may not remove negative effects. List which effects are being removed for approval.

  • In the case of magical item fusions, one item is treated as the "base" item and any fused items are treated as enchantments that take up enchantment slots.

  • Spells cannot be fused, with other spells or with any sort of item.

  • When selling a fused item, to a member or to the shops, the item must be broken down to its components.

Substitutions

Simple substitutions of equipment consist of turning an item into one of equivalent value and effects, or altering an item's element. None of these additions add effects, such as a damage spell could not become a healing spell by changing the element to holy. You do not need to ask permission to make simple changes that are only aesthetic/insignificant.

Complex substitutions consist of altering an item's function substantially and adding additional physical features, which does require permission. If you're not sure if your substitution is simple or complex, it's best to go ahead and ask permission.

You may not add new abilities (e.g. a faint glow) to an item that did not already have that power.

  • Simple Examples:
    • Turning a fire spell into a water spell.
    • Calling a squirrel a ferret.
    • Calling a greatsword a claymore.

  • Complex Example:
    • Adding joints to your sword so that you can fold it up.

Making a Request

  • Post a new topic in the Staff Requests board that states which items are being fused/substituted, and include the full descriptions of the original items for comparison.

  • Explain the end result of the fusion/substitution. What has changed from the original forms?

  • Please do not include unnecessary details, like who gave it to your character, how long you've had it, if it's your favorite weapon or not, etc. This will slow down the approval process.
