Godfrey snarled as he forced himself to stand. The cowardly wretch that stabbed him in the back had not only grievously wounded him, but infuriated him to the point where once again, the only thing he could focus on was shedding blood. He rushed one of the remaining acolytes and thrusted his flaming sword through the man's gut, then lifted him into the air and stabbed him repeatedly with his demon slaying knife. The last of the acolytes fell, unable to handle the onslaught delivered by the human and the half-orc. As the last fell to the ground in smouldering ruin, Godfrey took a deep breath, and stumbled to the side. "If we're going to kill this thing... We'd best get on with it. My strength is waining, and I'd rather try to remain useful when we strike. Whatever their master is, its definitely powerful. It'll take both of us to bring it down." He winced as he started to move forward, the searing pain in his shoulder worsening with each step. He sighed and withdrew his sword, then gripped his wound. "This one will pay for his treachery..." |

The Orc howled and hounded the acolytes that tried to escape, quickly helping the storm of rage that diminished the number of them in the room to flat zero. He let out a heavy wheeze as he felt adrenaline pounding into his veins, his muscles cording tightly in many places and wounds tearing in others. They were both running out of the juice to keep pushing through this cave quickly, and he was quite sure that they couldn't afford to. The half-breed nodded to the human, offering a hand to help him fully set himself on his feet. He could smell the painfully corrupted essence that was the demon that they hunted. It was somewhere ahead, waiting on the mountain for the two of them who were breaking down the foundation of it's operation like a club to a house of cards. The Orc enjoyed the thought of it, his axe hacking into the foundation of a well-maintained plan to bring it down to the dirt. "We should hurry... it is waiting for us by now." And he could feel it's eyes boring in on him now, trying to suppress both of them beneath the force of it's power. The Orc shook his head and pressed forward, his shield hefted to protect his abdomen. He would need any advantage he could obtain to press in on this victory, and there was a fire inside of the Orc that made him fight on regardless of injuries. He needed to kill this thing, to stop it from killing any more of the innocent people who used the mountain as their home. And he was quite sure that the demon wouldn't have stopped here, which just made him want to fight harder. As they pressed into the cavernous mountainside, he kept himself on edge. He could smell the darkness that was further on, and he felt as if every corner would bleed out with legions of demons under command to kill both of them and shred them apart. With a huff, the Orc slammed the edge of Hel-breaker into the front of his new shield, the clang of it echoing through the cavern. He nodded up, "That way, there's an exit from the sounds of the echo. Let's go." He didn't wait for a response, looking for a path to lead them out into the outside of the mountain, the smell of fresh air blowing in front an exit that he couldn't quite see from their angle. He could feel something that felt like happiness welling up in him. A part of him always loved the feeling of battle against something evil, or something strong. It was the way of the Orc, battle was their specialty and every man woman and child knew how to hold their own in battle. With a grim smile, the Orc pressed on into the breach of the cavern, starting to sing a battle song of his father and pounding his axe into his shield in rhythm with the music. He was almost a symphony of war-drums to himself, the sounds of steel pounding through the cavern to warn the enemy of his coming, and telling them to know fear. |

Godfrey nodded and forced himself up, racing towards the exit as fast as he could. The glint of his missing fighting knife reflected in the darkness due to the crack of light coming from the cave entrance, causing him to stop. He sheathed his other knife and picked it up, then thundered towards the sunlight, hot on Balder's tail. "It's open! We've brought down every minion under it's command! Won't be long now before we reach it, sure you're ready orc?" He chuckled as he came upon the exit of the cave, and slid to a halt. The beast before them did not look very imposing. There it sat, on its pedestal, eyes closed, its mouth curled into a frown. Not very imposing at all, until it opened its eyes, and gazed into the demon hunter's very soul. It's voice pentrated Godfrey's mind, and it sent the same message to Balder via telepathy You're soul... Will be mine, hunter... I am that which is unclean, perfection, immersed in filth. You will be assimilated, as all others before you. Godfrey roared as the beast's voice echoed in his head, then charged and leaped at it, only to be sent sprawling into the side of the mountain as it shot out its secondary right hand. It's frown slowly receded. It kept a straight face as it looked to the orc. These are your final moments of freedom, beast... Refusing to stand, it just sent another wave of telekinetic energy towards Balder, hoping to slam him into Godfrey. |

His body was made of stone compared to a human, the shield he had plucked from the cave before helping devour the force of power that slammed into him. He could feel his muscles tense, his legs sliding into the ground beneath him and grinding his footprints into the dirt under the force of the beast's power. He was impressed, but not enough to feel fear, not here in front of the beast, after what they had faced anyway. "Your corruption rots the very air I breathe in, Kular-Armauk. Your impurity is disgusting filth and insults my very space." He growled, a primal rage burning in his veins. All that mattered to him now-the only thing he could focus himself on-was the need to kill this thing. Every fiber of his being seemed to shake with rage at the thought of it. He hefted his axe from his hip, letting the glint of the edge shine in the light of the mountainous north. It's edge would break into the flesh of the demon, and toss it down into the mountainside below. He pressed forward, pushing the full force of himself with every step, his feet pounding heavy patterns into the rocky dirt beneath them. His muscles tensed with anticipation, and he waited for the coming attack that would send him sprawling, or over the mountain's edge. Either would be expected, but he wasn't sure he'd be able to stop it. As the force came in on him, he felt like needles were pressing in on his body, and tears started to appear all over the surface of his flesh. Blood splattered from his back and arms, but he ignored it. Adrenaline was the only thing that flowed through him now, the blood flowing from his wounds was a minor nuisance that he had to ignore, for the sake of the battle, the sake of the mission. As he neared the best, he brought his shield up in an attempt to stop the next telepathic blast. The enchantment that flowed through the surface of the shield pounded out in an attempt to counter the force of the blast, but it wasn't enough. The force of it all blasted back on the Orc like a raging wave, sending him sprawling over the dirt and rolling in many places. Raising to his feet, he looked over at the berserker and looked at the demon. An idea sparked in the back of the Orc's mind, one he imagined the mercenary would not enjoy for a single second. He rushed towards the man, taking hold of his arm and spinning without a word, tossing the human as hard as he could, every muscle in his body tensing at it's strongest point. He fell to the stones, his body tumbling into the dirt until he pounded into the rocky cliff-face. He felt like the stones on his back were shaking, stones falling onto him from the hill above. The Orc felt like he had just went four rounds with a stone giant, and he felt his entire body was willing to stand regardless of it. Pain was just another obstacle now, something he had to overcome. His gambit with the human was risky, but he knew if it worked he'd need to charge in for a killing blow, a final attack to bring this pitiful battle to a closure. |

The demon hunter cursed as he felt himself fly through the air, but got the gist of what Balder was doing. He quickly positioned himself to face the demon, and let out a bestial cry as he dug both the flaming sword and the demon-slaying battle knife into its shoulders, spinning around and bringing them down, dragging the blades down its back. It let out an inhuman cry as it was burned by the enchanted sword and struck by the knife. The runes on the blade flared up, and a surge of immense pain shook the creature. It fell from its pedestal, and began writhing around in agony, its dry, pale skin catching aflame. Godfrey looked to Balder and grinned, then stepped forward and dug his blade into its back. Though it didn't kill it, the attack caused it writhe and scream even more, flailing its three arms wildly. It got up, and rushed for Balder, attempting to claw him to death. Godfrey figured the beast would only assist in its own death at this sudden, irrational move, and decided not to jump in, his work being done. He was surprised at how easy it had been to damage the creature. He figured with all of its powers, it would have seen their improvisational caper coming. Luckily for him, he was wrong. The beast could have very well leapt out of the way, sending the warrior to his imminent death. It wouldn't be long now before the fight was over, he was sure of that. He began to sheathe his weapons as the creature neared the orc, deciding to watch how this played out. |

The Orc could only laugh as he watched the beast being torn into by his partner, and even more so when it launched itself at him. Balder was a ruthless beast, and he could overpower the monster without much effort, especially with it's reckless act of charging at him. He rose himself to his feet and rose his shield, the masterwork frame of steel plating easily stopping the attack. Bones snapped as it pounded into the steel at full speed, a guttural growl of pain resounding from the demon as the Orc started to push forward with him spread over his shield. "That will be the last mistake of your miserable existence, Abomination." He pressed forward, the demon's legs kicking at the ground with reckless abandon, the snarling laugh of the Orc coming with each jerking motion of fighting against the power. He pressed on, every second of the tug of war being a fight for control between the two, a fight the Orc wouldn't lose in a thousand years. As they neared the edge of the mountain-side, he could see the terror in the beasts eyes, and he smiled. The Orc pulled his shield back, the enchant in it's surface pushing it forward with great force, sending the demon flying through the air, and tumbling down the mountainous chasm. The mercenary fought back a laugh as he watched the beast screaming and tumbling down, looking away as it reached far enough below that he couldn't see it bouncing against the rocks and splattering into pieces at the bottom of the mountain. He turned around to the mercenary and simply nodded. The job was done, and all that was left was to mop up the mountains and try and clear out any demonic beasts left behind from the arch-demons twisted mechanization. It wouldn't be a quick job, but it would be easy money. "Very impressive skills, Shara. You fight better then most of your race form what I've seen, lacking the timid fear of most." Something that the Orc always found to be a disgusting part of human war. They were always so weak and timid when it came to the battle itself, the fools who showed any courage whatsoever dying before they could swing their sword. His opinion may have gotten a bit higher today, at least with this one man. |
