| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

When she looked at him, and while she was asking her question, she noticed that he was glancing out of the window again. She wondered if he could feel the slight breeze coming in through the window. The clouds were most likely quite close by now. When he heard her voice, he turned toward her once more and looked straight into her eyes. His mouth had taken on a disappointed frown. Her eyes locked on with his and she hoped he saw the part of her that was nonjudgemental. She hated that people judged others, even though it is in their nature, even though it is in her nature. He sighed and sadly smiled. It seemed he got that reaction a lot. She also hated being predictable and acting like others. She wanted to be unique and to make the world a better place, not filled with prejudice and hate, but with love and equality. "Yes, I am a werewolf as well. But please, don't let that ruin your salad." he said, waving his hand toward her plate. His voice sounded pained and the fear she had just felt was replaced by sympathy. She hadn't meant to hurt his feelings. She looked down at her salad and saw that she had only eaten two bites. The lettuce was getting the slightest bit limp, she noticed. While her eyes were trained on her plate, she heard the impact of a silverware with porcelian. It was rather forceful and she glanced back to Ulfr. He had taken a piece of his steak onto his fork and placed it in his mouth. She watched as he grabbed a roll from the untouched basket and plopped a torn piece into his mouth to join the meat. His milk came last as he waited for her response. She could feel her face becoming slightly heated. She looked back down to her plate and gathered her thoughts. When she looked up again, she hoped her blush had disappeared. I'm sorry if I offended you. I really didn't mean to. It just surprised me, that's all. From how you've acted here with me, I'm sure you are a very fine gentleman, and I'm glad I met you. She smiled, hoping he would pick up in her hint of acceptance. She really didn't care what race or background anyone came from; she loved them all. And no, the fact could never ruin my salad. It's not everyday that I make a new friend, werewolf or not. So I am thankful that you thought to have me as your friend, or at least company for this short meal. She smiled sheepishly again and gazed at him with her big hazel eyes. She hoped he wouldn't still be frustrated or disappointed because of her. She hated to hurt others, even though her nightmares suggested otherwise... |

"I'm sorry if I offended you. I really didn't mean to. It just surprised me, that's all. From how you've acted here with me, I'm sure you are a very fine gentleman, and I'm glad I met you. And no, the fact could never ruin my salad. It's not everyday that I make a new friend, werewolf or not. So I am thankful that you thought to have me as your friend, or at least company for this short meal." She said to him, smiling sheepishly, seeming to indicate truth in her words. Her apolopy made him relax slightly, and he breathed a sigh of relief as he closed his eyes. A breeze from the open window blew across him, swathing him in a cool veil of peace, and anticipation of the storm to come. With his eyes still closed, he spoke quietly, "It's... okay. Don't worry about. It's just... I haven't really had that sort of reaction in a while. Living in Kellen, the entire village accepts and even likes me. Ever since I saved one particular family with someone that was my friend since that very night, they have treated us like one of their own. The someone I mentioned is Higoru, my very first friend in this world, excluding the wolf pack that raised me. Not only that, when fighting, there isn't any real reason to stop and ask your enemy if they hate you because you're a werewolf. So, well, yeah it's been a while since I've encoutered that." Opening his eyes, he looked up at her, with her big, hazel eyes still displaying her apology. She honestly hadn't meant anything negative it seemed. Speaking up a bit, he said "I'm glad to have met you as well, Ainsley. It is always a blessing to meet someone new." Leaning back, he took another bite of the roll in his hand, as another breeze in through the window. His smile began to return, though not entirely, but it was no longer a hint of pain in it, only acceptance. He knew who he was, and he was happy with who he was. That was enough. But friends were certainly a pleasure he didn't want to go without. |

With her apology out in the open, Ainsley saw him sigh and close his eyes. Then he started talking, very low, so that she had to lean forward to hear the words he was saying."It's... okay. Don't worry about. It's just... I haven't really had that sort of reaction in a while. Living in Kellen, the entire village accepts and even likes me. Ever since I saved one particular family with someone that was my friend since that very night, they have treated us like one of their own. Not only that, when fighting, there isn't any real reason to stop and ask your enemy if they hate you because you're a werewolf. So, well, yeah it's been a while since I've encoutered that." This reaction made her feel somewhat embarrassed. Even though she didn't know of Ulfr's daring deed and had every right to think that he was just like every other were in Imythess, she was disappointed in herself for judging him without getting to know him. Everyone had their quirks behind a public display of good. His was that he just happened to be a shifter. Hers was... well, she didn't really like to talk about her quirk, her imperfection. She always tried her best to keep up a facade to hide her real self. She didn't like it; but it was absolutely necessary to keep from being outcast or thought of as crazy. She was also honored that he felt she should who his best friend had come to be. She enjoyed getting to know this Ulfr. He opened his eyes and looked straight into hers. Hopefully he had seen the sincerity in them. He spoke again, this time a bit louder so she could hear him. "I'm glad to have met you as well, Ainsley. It is always a blessing to meet someone new." He sat back then, took a bite of the roll in his hand and she watched as his smile, that had faded so quickly only a moment ago, was slowly coming back out. It wasn't the same as his easy grin that she had seen earlier, but a smile that signaled his self-acceptance. She was glad that he was confident in himself. She wished that she was as confident. Most wouldn't understand why she was not. Maybe she could tell Ulfr what she had never told anyone before... No. Even though he seemed like a nice, caring person, she decided against revealing her dark secret to this man before she got to know him better. When will that be, Ainsley? Never. That's when. You need to tell someone, or it's going to eat you from the inside out. Her voice told her inside her head. I will find someone some day whom I can entrust with this burden. One day. But that day just can not be today. she told herself. She looked at Ulfr and smiled. Thank you. She glanced outside again and thought out loud Those clouds sure are getting close. I bet you they will arrive in a matter of about five or ten minutes, or so. I can't wait! I've always loved the rain. She turned her attention back to him and grinned. Her eyes lit up, the lights in the diner sending a sparkle through them. Do you like the rain? she asked her new friend in a very innocent sounding voice. |

Tired, hungry, and wounded, I stopped in the village of norwood to bandage my cuts in an abandoned building, from the battle id just endured. I sware, the killing business never pays enough for the blood i have to spill. I limped deeper into the village, deep enough now to see a few people here and there, though one in particular caught my eye. A yound elvish girl looked particularly hurried, with the most anxious look on her face, as if she had just had the sweetest of ideas. I thought "if she's about to make a profit , I want in." So i decided to follow her, at a safe distance so i wouldnt b found out. 10 minutes later, she had arrived at a diner. "Great", I thought, " I chased her here for a damn dinner." But at the thought of food, I realized just how hungry i was. I saw no harm in stopping in for a quick meal. I made my way in and sat at a table towards the back. There was the elvish girl, far to busy throwing glances at some stranger to notice i had walked in. I sat there, waiting to be served. About, 15 minutes had passed. I was finishing my meal and prepared to pay the waitress. I was walking toward the front counter. I was close enought to hear the two, who were now eating together chatting. I paid the waitress and just before I left i heard the young male say, "Yes, I am a werewolf as well. But please, don't let that ruin your salad." The words hit my like a bolt of lightning. To think, a WEREWOLF!. I could get niced sized fortune for turning him to freakshow or something. But I was still injured, and taking on a werewolf was not going to be easy. So i decided to watch him from a distance, until the time was perfect to strike. "This is going to be fun." |

Smiling at Ulfr, Ainsley started “Thank you.” Glancing outside, as both of them had been throughout the entire meal, she added “Those clouds sure are getting close. I bet you they will arrive in a matter of about five or ten minutes, or so. I can't wait! I've always loved the rain.” Ulfr smiled at this, as it took a completely different direction from where their conversation had been heading. It was comical, the way the subject had been so quickly changed. Returning her gaze on him, eyes sparkling with delight and a grin on her face, she asked him “Do you like the rain?” A slight laugh escaped him, and he grinned right back at her. “Yes, I do. I enjoy the way it feels to run headlong in it, as if nothing will ever cause me to stop. I love the way it smells especially. It’s comforting, and it reminds me faintly of roses.” Turning and looking out in the tavern, he noticed that not too many more people had come in. Most where simply getting something to go, as if their day was preventing them from eating here; but it was probably due to the storm clouds coming, now that he thought about it. However, one person that stuck out particularly was one man that was just standing there, as if he was petrified. Curious as he was, he pushed it from his mind, returning his gaze to Ainsley, though he watching him out of the corner of his eye. “Do you like getting caught in the rain Ainsley? If you don’t mind getting wet, how would you like to ride on my back as I run?” |

As Ainsley turned to ask her question, she saw Ulfr was smiling. Had she amused him again? He chuckled and answered “Yes, I do. I enjoy the way it feels to run headlong in it, as if nothing will ever cause me to stop. I love the way it smells especially. It’s comforting, and it reminds me faintly of roses.” Then he seemed to gaze into the diner and go into a daydream. Probably thinking of the coming rain. She had noticed that the trickle of customers was slowly dwindling and that was most likely due to the coming storm. She watched Ulfr's eyes, wondering what he was thinking. He must've seen something in the diner for his eyes changed, noticing a certain person maybe but Ainsley did not want to turn around. She picked up her fork and scooped up a bite of the now limp lettuce. She ate it and drank a sip of water from her glass. When she looked up, she noticed his eyes were on her once more. "Do you like getting caught in the rain Ainsley? If you don't mind getting wet, how would you like to ride on my back as I run?" he said out of the blue. He seemed excited by the prospect. She smiled at him then looked out the window. Small splatters of rain hit the glass and some found their way inside. She reached out and touched the windowsill, and brought her hand back, wet. The rain tingled on her fingertips. Her vision suddenly went white. She would gasp but she was used to these "white-outs", so she just seemed as if she was staring out the window. The white began to fade, not to the scene she was just in, but back to when she was five, to "The Incident." She blinked and looked around. She must've passed out. It took all of five seconds for her to register where she was. In front of her lay to figures, sprawled out of the kitchen floor. They were motionless, dead to the world, and laying in a pool of some kind of liquid. She was curled up next to the wall, dressed in a yellow sun dress with little white flowers on it. Her hair lay in frizzled curls down to her small shoulders. There was smoke in the air and it clouded the cramped room. She crawled over to the figures and instinctively knew they were her parents. The dark liquid that they were laying in smelled of metal and splattered their bodies as well. She called to them and touched their bodies. "Mama, Papa, get up!" but then, it hit her like a speeding train. She had watched her parents being brutally murdered by a group of thugs. She had crawled behind the kitchen counter and curled up in the fetal position and blocked out her parents' screams. Now they were laying in their own blood, dead. Their bodies were cold to the touch. She touched her mother's face, splattered with blood. The blood tingled when it touched her own skin. She crawled to the door of their humble home and looked out to their small village. Everything in sight was black, charred. Smoke rose from piles of rubble and wood. The thugs had burnt her village as well. She was the sole survivor of the event. She crawled back to her parents' corpses and lay with them, not caring about the blood that surrounded them. She stroked her mother's hair and crooned to them softly. She allowed herself only a few tears before she fell asleep with the thought that she was absolutely alone and she would have to toughen up and fend for herself starting now. The scene faded to white once more and she came back to the diner. She didn't know if she had brought the raindrop to her face, or if a tear had escaped her eye, but she swiped at her face and turned back to Ulfr. She pulled a smile from down deep within herself and said, "I would love to. Why don't we go ahead and get ready to go?" The rain was coming down steadily now, making a pitter-patter on the roof of the diner. |

After he had posed his question, Ainsley reached towards the window, letting her hand touch the rain, which had started dropping from the sky. She seemed to enjoy the feel of it. Until she seemed to be frozen where she sat. Something was off, there was a sort of glaze in her eyes. It was as if she was looking at something else, something that wasn't outside the window. Ulfr sat there, waiting for her to come to, resisting the urge to wave his hand in front of her face. A tear rolled down her face, and finally she awoke from the weird state she was in. She withdrew her hand from the window, and wiped the tear from her face. She smiled, but she seemed to struggle with it, saying "I would love to. Why don't we go ahead and get ready to go?" Smiling, Ulfr stood up quickly, grabbing another piece of steak and plopping it into his mouth, starting towards the door. "Well then, let's go!" When they were outside, he would ask about her little "spell" just a few seconds ago. He stepped out, rain still sprinkling quietly. It would most likely gradually increase into full on rain sooner or later. |

When she smiled at him, she tried her best to make it look authentic. She hated how much she was showing her emotions in front of Ulfr. He seemed like the understanding type but she still didn't like feeling so vulnerable. He smiled back at her, pleased with her answer. Well then, let's go! he said as he stood up and ate a last piece of steak. Ainsley followed suit after she took another sip of her water. She slid out of the booth and followed him to the door. The mat on the floor was damp from the traffic coming and going. They walked through the door and then the thought hit her. They hadn't paid for their food. She touched Ulfr's arm, and said I'll be right back. I forgot to pay. She turned back around and entered the diner once again. She walked across the floor toward the payment counter. Lila was standing there, eyeing her as she approached. She stopped at the counter and pulled out her bag of gold. She turned to see Lila giving her a mischievous smile. Don't even start, Lila. I'm just getting to know a nice person. Last time I checked, that's not against the law. Now how much was our meal? He's a guest here so I might as well be generous. She said, although she herself was sporting a nervous smile. I'll give you a discount for being such a martyr. Twelve gold. she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. But seriously, Ainsley! You only met him less than an hour ago. And now you are leaving with him? What are you thinking? I'm your friend so I'm only trying to look out for you. Ainsley had dug the coins from the pouch and set them on the wooden counter separating her and her childhood friend. Relax, Lila. You know I can take care of myself. And he seems like a nice guy. I thought I'd give him a chance. If you're in such a need for something to talk about, come by my place when your shift ends. I'll tell you all the juicy details. she told her in a slightly condescending voice. Like there will be any juicy details to talk about. It's just a run in the rain with a new friend. she told herself in the back of her mind. No need to get my hopes up for a long term friendship. He told you he was only stopping in for a short while. She turned on her heel, whipping her hair around as she did so, and strolled to the door. Once outside again, she looked up at Ulfr. He was exponentially taller than she, about a foot and a half. So how about that run? she smiled. |

As Ainsley went over to pay, Ulfr smacked himself in the forehead. He had been so excited about the rain, he had forgot to pay for his meal. Running back over to their table, Ulfr laid four gold coins on it, as a tip to Lila. He made back to the door before Ainsley even turned around from with Lila, who apparently was giving her the third degree about something. When Ainsley made her way back to Ulfr, she asked about the run. With a smile, he opened the door and walked outside, holding it open from there for her to come out. He could feel the drips of the rain hitting his head lightly, slightly getting harder, but not at very fast rate. Walking out into the street, he held out his arms lifted his face, enjoying the droplets of water coming down. Looking forward, he smiled that wolfish grin of his, and asked "Race ya to the end of the street Ainsley," holding his hand out, waiting for her to start going. He knew elves were supposed to be fast, but something told him that he was faster. Wonder what that was. He braced himself for a quick takeoff, not wanting to give her too much of a headstart. |

Ainsley walked through the opened door and thanked him for being such a gentleman. She watched with an amused smile as he walked out into the middle of the street and opened his arms wide, turning his face to the heavens. He let the drops of rain splash into his face and clothes. She felt a giggle bubble up her throat and out of her mouth. He looked absolutely ridiculous, standing in the rain like that. But he looked like he was having fun. And she wanted to have fun too. He looked back at her and a canine-looking grin split his face. "Race ya to the end of the street, Ainsley," he said as he took a starting stance. She smiled at him in surprise. His clothes were starting to cling loosely to his arms and legs, and his hair was doing the same to his crown. She couldn't ignore the sparkle in his eyes though. He seems like he is still a child at heart. she thought as she looked at him. In truth, he looked exactly like a child to her at that moment. Standing in the rain, smiling so mischievously at her. She decided going for a run wouldn't hurt so she discretely dug the balls of her feet into the loose gravel by the door and crouched slightly, readying to sprint away like a bullet shot out of a gun. Your on! she said playfully and pushed off from her place. The moment she broke from underneath the awning that covered the diner's entryway she felt the small drops of water splash against her pumping arms and face. Her heart rate had risen slightly from the burst of energy she used to start her run. She quickly steadied it by breathing slowly through her nose and out through her mouth, matching her breathing to her footfalls. She had tried to set her face into a determined expression but she couldn't suppress the smile that was adamant about remaining on her face as she ran through the rain. The wind blew her hair back from her face, making it fly behind her, a wavy tail of dark brown and forrest green. The rain had made the dirt and gravel road a little slippery but Ainsley was used to the weather in Norwood. She had worn her boots today, the ones that rose to the middle of her calf and hugged her muscle closely but not uncomfortably so. She was also very surefooted and had run this street many a time. Her feet found the safest spots to fall, propelling her toward her destination: the corner at the other end of the street. She didn't even bother looking back to see if Ulfr had followed; she was in her own world now, enjoying the rain to the fullest. She closed her eyes for the smallest moment and let out a shout of joy. She shook her head with the sound of the yell and followed it with a laugh. This was by far the best day she had had in a long while. |

He laughed as she accepted his challenge with enthusiasm, breaking into a run like an arrow loosed from a bow. Leaping forward and landing in a run, he sped towards his determined endpoint, noting that even really short elves cold run faster than a human. Well, a normal human that is, he thought, smirking as it crossed his mind. While the human blood within him gave some amazing mental advantages, his physical prowess came from the werewolf blood flowing through him, altering his perception on the world in a way no one could ever match. So far flung from the world was he, born of wolf and human, escaping the norm of society with every breath and exertion of energy, he loved and reveled at who and what he was. His one step was equal to two or three of hers, sometimes even four, and he was gaining fast. So focused on the run and marvel of the rain enveloping him like a hug from the earth and sky, he didn’t even notice as he changed, silvery gray fur sprouting from all over him, his teeth elongating into fangs, and claws growing from his fingertips. Dropping to all fours and completed the change, still he was unawares as he galloped to the end of the street, blowing past like Ainsley like the wind. In fact, he didn’t notice that he had changed until he skidded to a halt after reaching the end of the street, barking in happy triumph. When he heard the bark, he paused, and looked himself over. Grinning his wolfish grin, he shook his body, shaking water off of his soaked fur, wagging his tail when he finished. He stood up on his hind legs and gave a sort of chuckle, realizing that he was almost double Ainsley’s height in this form. Returning to all fours, he began to bounce around playfully. Thinking of what someone’s face would look like if they peered out of a window, Ulfr began to chuckle some more, an odd sounding noise coming from the mouth of his current form. |

The rain was still coming down in sheets. It was starting to collect into puddles that were splashed when a foot (or paw) fell into them. Ainsley was still running full throttle down the street toward the corner. Her face was split by a large grin, eyes bright. Her hair was sticking to her face, neck, and clothes; but that didn't spoil her run. She swiped her hand quickly to her face to push a lock of her wavy hair away as it was dripping into her eyes. Then, a blur rushes past her. It looked... silver. It was about her height. Then she looked ahead and saw a huge figure standing at the corner in front of her. It stood at least twice her height and was soaking wet, just like her. It looked like it was covered in long fur and it had pointed ears. Her eyes grew big when she heard a bark flow down the street. The figure in front of her was her new friend, Ulfr, in his were form. Her mouth opened to gasp, which broke her breathing cycle and her feet got jumbled underneath her. Her foot caught an uneven stone in her path and she slipped. Her hands instinctively shot out in front of her and braced them for the impact with the ground. She cringed her eyes and let out a small yelp as she fell forward. The cobblestone street was slippery and when her hands connected with it, they slid out from under her and she hit the ground with her body. Her arms did a good job of breaking her fall but the street wasn't built to be soft like a pillow. She gasped and rolled to her side, gripping her stomach. She pushed herself up to her knees and then to her feet. She looked at the figure near the corner, on all fours, prancing around happily. She let out a chuckle and lowered her arms to her sides. She jogged slowly the rest of the way over to the corner, bent over and placed her hands on her knees, catching her breath. Her hair fell in front of her face, dripping onto the already wet corner. She stood back up and pushed her hair out of her face and looked at Ulfr. You caught me off guard back there. she chuckled. Next time, warn me when you're gonna change. |

When Ainsley managed to get to the corner, it was obvious that they were soaking wet, water dripping off of them from everywehre possible. He noticed how her clothes clung to her chest when she stood and chuckled at him for changing and startling her, and he tried to avoid looking there. It seemed like it would be rude to do so, despite however much he may have to look. She asked him to warn her the next time he decided to do that. Now why would I do a thing like that? he thought to himself, laughing some more. He hadn't seen her fall, otherwise he would have changed back and asked if she was okay. Instead, he barked and trudged off, expecting her to follow him. He was headed outside of the village, into the surrounding forest. As he walked, he listened intently in case Ainsley decided to talk to him while they walked. He wouldn't mind, but to fully answer anything he'd have to change back. He'd yet to figure out how to talk common in his werweolf form. This was a complication sometimes, but luckily those complication hadn't been too much of a big deal. The rain was coming down, and it didn't look like it would let up anytime soon. Ulfr would be warm, but he didn't know how Ainsley would fair after a prolonged amount of time exposed to the weather. When they reached the edge of teh village and the trees began to grow more where they pleased, Ulfr searched for one that provided excellent coverage under its canopy. It wasn't too long before he found what he was looking for. He sat underneath a particularly large oak and turned to face Ainsley, and gave a deep noise that sounded like "Roorooroo," A friendly growl. |
